First, I want to make it clear that there are AMAZING employees at Karma who work incredibly hard and genuinely care about the couples. Many weddings come together because the staff is behind the scenes fixing problems, setting up, serving, cleaning, and doing everything possible to give couples the day they deserve. A special shoutout to Alicia -- she is truly one of the BEST. She is kind, professional, hardworking, and deserves so much recognition. My issue is not with the staff. It is with the ownership and management. I cared deeply about every bride and groom I worked with. Couples spend thousands of dollars trusting a venue with one of the most important days of their lives. They deserve professionalism, communication, respect, and everything they paid for. Unfortunately, what I personally experienced behind the scenes was very different. Communication was constantly an issue. Schedules were posted last minute, important wedding details could still be missing days before an event, and legitimate messages went unanswered. Steve and Donna expected communication from employees while, in my experience, failing to give us that same respect in return. I personally experienced being yelled at, talked down to, disrespected, and spoken to in ways I would never consider acceptable from an employer. Steve often spoke to me in a way that made me feel as though he believed he was the smartest person in the room and everyone else was beneath him. Owning a business does not give someone the right to belittle the employees working hard to keep that business running. One of my biggest concerns involved alcohol. There were events where I personally observed Donna drinking while working and witnessed behavior that became inappropriate and physical with people. I personally experienced unwanted physical contact from her as well. Seeing brides placed in uncomfortable situations was heartbreaking. My couples should NEVER have had to experience that on their wedding day. I also personally witnessed Steve operating the trolley after I had observed him consuming alcohol. That was extremely concerning to me. Guests, employees, and wedding parties should be able to trust that the people responsible for them are making safe decisions. I also witnessed situations involving food, wine, and items couples purchased or paid for that made me uncomfortable. I would strongly encourage future couples to get EVERYTHING in writing. Document food, alcohol, bottles purchased, leftovers, quantities, charges, and exactly what happens to anything remaining after your event. The grounds were another disappointment. In my experience, the property was not maintained to the standard I would expect for what couples pay. Even some of the beautiful flower baskets displayed around the property were left behind by one of my lovely brides after her wedding. The hardest part of leaving is my brides and grooms. To my couples who experienced unnecessary stress, I am so sorry. You deserved to feel celebrated and taken care of. I tried my absolute hardest to advocate for you and keep problems happening behind the scenes from becoming your problems. To my last couples especially, I am so sorry I will no longer be there. I genuinely cared about you and your weddings. Please know that leaving had NOTHING to do with you. I simply reached a point where I could no longer accept how I was being treated. My final wedding at Karma ended with me leaving in tears. I will never forget that. If you attended a wedding here and had a wonderful experience, PLEASE remember the servers, bartenders, coordinators, kitchen staff, and other employees who helped create that experience. They deserve so much credit. A beautiful view does not excuse poor treatment of employees or unprofessional behavior. To the staff: thank you for everything you do. To Alicia: you are seriously the best. And to every bride and groom I had the privilege of working with: thank you for trusting me with your wedding. I loved being part of your special day. I am walking away knowing I cared about my couples, worked my hardest, and finally stood up for myself when enough was enough.
