Great, fresh salad with dressing made on site. I had the Greek salad, which was generously-sized with a great mix of spinach and spicy greens. I got it with grilled chicken and the chicken was thinly-sliced and tasty. The BLT was delicious with thick-sliced bacon, tomatoes were ripe and juicy. Jim says the BLT was "one of the best I've had." It's a light, airy place in a small shopping center in the High Point neighborhood. Staff was friendly and service was quick. I can only really review their salads, since that is all I've ever eaten here. In that regard, this place is quite unique in town. You can pick and choose whichever ingredient you want (and there are quite a lot of ingredients to choose from). The size of a salad is enormous, enough to make it a meal for any normal human being (even enough to share if you are not a big eater). I would recommend to get your salad chopped instead of tossed, that way your ingredients will be nicely blend together (I even think the portion ends up being much larger). This is a piece of heaven for vegetarians in this BBQ-driven town. And for you meat eaters out there, even a nice break for your arteries. I went at lunch with some colleagues. i had a salad, which was good, but those who had sandwiches weren't as happy. One person had to have to sandwich re-made because the bread was so hard. However, the roasted pistachio gelato is a different matter. It was delicious... lots and lots of whole, roasted pistachios. You need to go early, unless you want to wait. The staff was very slow in assembling the sandwiches and salads, so there was quite a line. I was wrong for not going here before, and not only because I live around High Point. Brief: Fantastic porch. Milk dry the 'build your own' sandwich/salad option. It can be two meals. The 'be the chef' (build your own) option for the sandwich was more than the $9+\- I spent. The entire time, I was wondering if I was going to be up-charged for extras. But no. I had to take some home. If I was not gorging myself, it could have easily been two meal courses. The ingredients were good: I built one with sourdough, chicken, bacon, goat cheese, roasted red peppers, artichokes, tomato, red onion spinach, black pepper, and light pesto schmear. I'd recommend it toasted but it couldn't fit into the toaster without spilling its guts. And I wanted all of it. Build your own sandwich or salad, for if you do it correctly, you can have two meals or feast. The porch is a great place to enjoy their beers, many local, and gelato. Loved this place! Fresh food, fast and friendly service. The menu was great. It is not a big menu but it is a fantastic place for salads and sandwiches. They put all the ingredients for my salad in a bowl then they dumped the bowl onto the counter and used a special "rocking knife" to chop it all up into small pieces. They need to get rid of the roaches crawling along the counter. Clean the floors, seats and garbage cans. Some of the employees needs to actually wash their clothes. The salads I get from cheffies are consistently delicious and really generously portioned. I always get a "be the chef" salad so I can customize the toppings. I have had a couple experiences where they have forgotten a element (usually the crunchy topping) or skimped on portion size if I was there during the lunch rush, but normally they are excellent and quick. All of the vegetable components are good quality and I really love the tofu option. Their tomato soup is also really good. Best place for lunch close to the University of Memphis. read more

I love Cheffie's! I have never gotten a sandwich, but the salads are among the best I've had, and they're generous with both portions and the good veggies and meat. You can get one of the menu salads, make tweaks to one of those salads, or create your own from scratch. Saturday afternoons are busy especially when the weather is nice. I ordered a half sandwich half salad and I feel that the salad was lacking. For a restaurant that specializes in salads I would expect a well balanced half salad. Instead I felt like I bought a bag of lettuce and a sprinkle of toppings. The curry apple chicken salad was my protein but was non existent in my salad. I recommend buying a full salad not half. Overall I see people coming here for the convenience and you definitely pay for it! I don't mind paying for high dollar ingredients if they are actually included in the salad in a well balanced manner. LOVE THIS PLACE BUT... The food here is great and never disappoints. It has a laid back atmosphere, perfect for lunch or a casual dinner after the greenline. On my most recent visit, however, the service was horribly slow. I'm really hoping they were short staffed and this isn't the norm, but I'm not so sure. I heard several people in line say that this had been the case during their last few visits. I definitely will come back again, but certainly not when I'm in a hurry or trying to grab a quick bite. I must have gone on the wrong day. (a monday for lunch). On a positive note, the patio was delightful. We had a sandwich (from their special sandwich menu) and a soup (tomato that day). We watched the manager refill the fried onion container from a bag of cheap premade fried onions (how hard is it to fry onions?) while our sandwich master slapped together the sandwich with less style than an employee at the Subway concession of a gaz station. He did not ask if we wanted sides. The cashier asked if we wanted anything else, we said yes, potato salad. (she's 2 feet away from it) but she couldn't handle it and our sandwich man was already on his next customer. oh well...no big deal, we'll have a bag of chips. We took our trays and beverages to the pretty patio, started eating and sadly the sandwich was tasteless, had very little meat (for $7.95), the bread was sad, the condiments pre-made and cheap. First of all, this address is wrong. The place is in the High Point Plaza. I ordered the 1/2 sandwich, a curried chicken salad on ciabatta, and 1/2 salad, the house. My total tab was about $8. The portions aren't great so my advice would be to order a salad with absolutely everything on it because this place is T00 EXPENSIVE for the amount of food you receive. The salads aren't weighed so at least you can attempt to get your money's worth there. The sandwiches and salads are nothing unique- expect the standard choices here. Also, they charge you $2 for Iced Tea which is a ridiculous price! They also do not have any sodas. All of the desserts are WAY overpriced as well- another $2 for a small cookie and almost $5 for a small cinnamon roll. I'd rather go to Whole Foods and get a cinnamon roll comparable to the size of my face for $1.88. Last thing here....they dont use a credit card system so be aware that ALL of the #s of your card will be copied down on a hand-scanned receipt. Not exactly safe with all of the identity theft these days! All in all, food is nothing special, service is slow, and way overpriced. I've heard about this place for so long yet never ventured over--and boy am I SORRY it took me so long. Hubs and I rented a tandem bike at Shelby Farms and rode down the green line on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Cheffie's was our oasis from the heat and humidity and what a welcoming. The place is fun, open, with a modern urban vibe. This is the kind of place my family (with their selective3 eating habits and special diets) likes to eat and so YES, I will be bringing the 3 offspring (ages 16-22) soon. For those who want precise control over what they are eating this is wonderful. You can build your own salad or sandwich. For those who don't want to do all that thinking, you can order one of their menu salads or sandwiches (which is what we did). They are wonderful and have good, healthy and creative choices. I got the Tuscan Chicken sandwich without the cheese. The homemade pesto schmear was delish! Hubby got the Crunchy Roast Beef Sandwich and let me have a bite. Also very wonderful! I love that there are vegetarian choices as well. Cheffie's is a cute cafe attached to a bike shop in High Point Terrace. My best friend recently moved to the neighborhood, so I've been asked to join him multiple times when he's gone there. Before I continue, I just want to reiterate: I love eating good food. For superb food, I don't mind shelling out a couple of extra dollars. I've been here three times, and I've just never been blown away. The salads are large; I've had the Chicken Caesar and the Veggie Delite. The former was definitely better than the latter, mostly because the VD has chickpeas in it, which kind of threw me off (I'm so used to eating chickpeas that are mashed into something delicious, like hummus, I suppose). Last time I went, though, I opted for a Tuscan Chicken sandwich on a honey wheat bread. I definitely preferred this over the salads I had in the past. Sides don't come with the sandwich, so the 6-8 dollars you see on the menu is just for the sandwich itself, not including chips or a drink. Ouch. I also decided to splurge and get the gelato. The espresso flavor is the bomb. Seriously. Get it. I want to LOVE Cheffie's so badly. I just find it hard to justify the expensive prices. read more
