Loved this place! We decided against another place near here and happily landed at Cheffies. I made my own salad and it was so good and fresh - just too big. I added the excellent hummus and no dressing or cheese was needed. The spouse loved his pimento cheese panini and added a bowl of black bean soup. I love that they offer many beers and wines. Visited this cute sandwich shop last night with my girlfriends! I chose the Tuscan chicken sandwich on a garlic herb wrap. It was absolutely delicious-made with fresh, natural ingredients! My girlfriends both went with salads and from the looks of things, they certainly did not have any complaints about their dinners. If your a first timer, the ordering process can be a bit intimidating. Take your time and figure out what you want on your salad or sandwich so you will be completely satisfied with your food. Hannah was very welcoming and patient as I decided what to order. All the meats,bread and trimming were very fresh. I ordered half sandwich and a salad. Well let me tell you, the salad portion is huge. Two people can share the salad. This was the first time I have ever been ask if I wanted my salad chopped. I got lunch to go but I wish I would have stayed and eaten there. The atmosphere is very laid back and the space is great. There were lots of kids and families lunching inside and on the patio. They even had Memphis made on tap. The greek salad was wonderful! The garden sandwich was ok...nothing spectacular. It could have used some pesto or something. The bread was great, though. This is my neighborhood cafe/restaurant/eatery/sandwich place, whatever I would like to call it, it is remarkable. The sandwiches and salads are gourmet, freshly made and the pricing is very reasonable. I live only 2 minutes away and I can pretty much eat from here daily and I would be happy everyday. The selection of sandwiches and salads are extensive. The staff are very helpful and courteous. Most people preferred to go boxes but this not a compact space and does pack a generous number of tables and chairs. I saw that they also have gelato ice cream as well, did not get to try it though. The other cool thing about this place is that it is next to a pizzeria and a pub and a grocery store which are all pretty cool and very much locally run!!! This place has really good sandwiches. The food there is really fresh. The pomegranate tea is delicious. The staff is very friendly. I really enjoy pretty much everything I get there. The food is great when they have food! The following is based on facts, not opinions, and not exaggerations: They are constantly out of primary ingredients. If I were to go to Cheffie's 4 times in 1 month, they would be out of lettuce for a salad at least twice. They offer sandwiches and salads, so to not be able to serve a salad is insane. This place is so terribly managed. Whoever does their ordering must be the son of the owner... or the owner... because surely they would be out of a job by now. I went yesterday and picked up a to-go order and an unsweet tea, paid, went to the drink machine to find out they were also out of ice, unsweet tea, and lemon. When I told the employee about it, he told me I would have to wait for him to brew more. There was not even an offer for my two dollars back or however much a drink costs. It was noon. They should have been prepared for a lunch crowd at lunch time. I have been numerous times where the line is to the door and it takes nearly 30 minutes to get through the line and it's because they are out of ingredients and don't tell people until they get to the front so everyone is having to rethink their order after standing in line for 30 minutes with their order already decided. They were also out of bacon and bread that day. High Point Grocery is four doors down- think outside the box. If I were to rate the food- 5 stars, but the service, dining experience as a whole, the business... it's a stretch to give it one star, but zero wasn't an option. read more

I live in the neighborhood, and love this place! There are tons of tables to sit with friends and enjoy a beer, wonderful sandwiches and salads! I always have a hard time deciding what to get, and usually choose a salad with all my favorite toppings. I don't mind paying extra for additional toppings (they limit to one protein, 4 veggies, one cheese, one crunchy and one dressing) because they are always SO fresh! It's difficult for restaurants to keep fresh avocados on hand, but they are always perfect and delicious. The salad portion is huge and always lasts for another meal. Great grab and go as well, with pesto pasta salad, potato salad (the best!), and small treats. It's a bit pricey for a salad once you add any additional toppings, but I assure you, it's worth it! Everyone working is super nice. Last night I went and made the comment that I needed to make a copy of my salad ingredients for later uses (they have a stand where you can fill out the customized sandwiches and salads so you don't have to stand there overwhelmed) and the man working the register actually went and made a copy of my sheet for me to keep! I love the food at Cheffies. It's always fresh. However, I rode my bike down from the green line (from Cordova) to eat here. I was with my husband who had his wallet. I only brought a phone & chapstick. We are 54 yrs old. They would not let me buy a beer with my lunch without my ID. This is some " big thing" in Memphis. It doesn't happen anywhere else. I am a sucker for a salad niçoise and their lemon vinaigrette does not disappoint. Just be sure to get the dressing on the side as it is quite potent. Food was good but getting past the rude manager? was the hard part. Feb. 9th about 7pm, I ordered from the blackboard menu food and two glasses of wine at $7/glass. The bar person (manager?) told us they did not carry that anymore and that $10/glass is the one available. I suggested to her that if you do not carry it why do you keep it on the board? Is this sort of a bait and switch? She became rude at that point and walked away without explanation. I finished my food order which included a bottle of the more expensive wine. Notwithstanding the general curtness I tipped 20%. Anyway a rather hostile environment without any effort to correct anything was the attitude of the staff. read more

I went to cheffie's on a saturday afternoon and it was suprisingly empty. That cant be good, I thought. I walked up to the counter and ordered a salad and the server got my order incorrect and then he dropped the salad bowl, eek. The server then found out there wasn't any more romaine lettuce and asked if I wanted to wait, I said sure. I waited for thirty minutes before I, myself, went up to the counter and asked if my salad was ready. Another server asked me if I had placed an order and I said I was the girl that was waiting on some more chopped romaine. She looked at me like I was crazy, but went to go put my salad together. I didn't get an apology, much less, a discount or free salad. I still had to pay $8.50 for an average salad. Needless to say. it was horrible service and I will not be back nor reccommend cheffie's cafe. Two points for the appearance of the place, it was big and airy with cute community tables. read more

Two weeks ago my daughter and I went to Cheffie's cafe for lunch. It was probably our 10th visit to Cheffie's and we love going there. My daughter ordered a salad and I ordered a half sandwich and soup. The chicken tortilla soup I was so excited about was placed on the tray and looked like a bowl of canned tomatoes and canned corn. I then proceeded to watch the worker spoon cold chopped chicken into the bowl and proceeded to pay for the lunch. My daughter's salad looked yummy, but my over MAYONAISED turkey sandwich and cold chopped chicken bowl of tomatoes and corn was uck. We went to sit down and all of the tables were covered in dirty dishes, trash and crumbs. The one table we chose had three baby high chairs at it and they were filled with food as well. I went to the cashier to change out my bowl of tomatoes and corn and cold chicken and the man was ticked off when I told him I did not like the looks of the soup. I also asked if someone could wipe off our table. I had another look but the cashier never asked anyone to clean off the table. It was a mess and if I was the manager, I would be so ashamed. Cheffie's, clean up your act. If you get slammed on a Saturday afternoon, please hire more staff or ask someone to stop in the kitchen and clean the front of the restaurant. I wish they would get their act together so I can become a happy customer again. read more
