I can safely say I will probably ever go here one time because my body is allergic to healthy food. I can't believe I've been in this area for as often as I have and have never even heard of this place! Cheffie's is like a salad subway, with some mixtures of sandwiches in between. Because I am a newfound vegetarian and because I would rather chop off my toes than voluntarily eat a salad, I only ate a grilled cheese; my review is ONLY based on what I ate. I'm sure the food here is pretty good and I may have to update if I ever get anything else, but I wasn't too crazy about what I got. My friend got a build-your-own salad and the portion size for that was humongous! I finished my food before he even could, so what does that tell you. Great Salad - Great Sandwich - Great Service I had been hearing that Cheffie's had some good food, so my wife and I decided to check them out recently. I grew up in this neighborhood and had always enjoyed the area and the less hectic pace of, say, Poplar Ave. The servers are friendly, the place is clean, the exposed brick and ceilings add to the atmosphere. Oh yeah, and the food is fantastic - they prepare it onsite and serve it fresh. My wife and I both went with the Salad/Sandwich combo. Now you can "Build your own" salad and/or sandwich, but we both had the Cobb Salad this time. My wife had the Crispy Roast Beef, and I had the Chicken Cuban - both were great. We got our salad "tossed and chopped" (I DO recommend this) with the Blue Cheese dressing tossed in before the chopping. You can see the choices of lettuce and all the ingredients in plain site before they fix it for you. Oh, the (half) salad (which was more like a full salad) - from the first bite -- delicious and full of flavor since it was fixed fresh. Incredible salad - and huge! Remember, you can "Build your own". My Chicken Cuban (half sandwich) was toasted with a generous helping of chicken and ham - it also tasted great. You won't leave hungry, that's for sure. We'll have to go back for the Gelato since we were a bit full. They may be mostly known by the Greenline regulars, but they serve everyone, so treat yourself to some healthy, fresh, fantastic food! I'm not sure why this place had 4 stars on Yelp. We went here based on the great Yelp reviews, and I am extremely underwhelmed. The bread was dry and the sandwich fillings were meager and tasteless, to put it nicely. Maybe it's better if you order a salad? It wasn't awful, but it wasn't very good - I would definitely not go again. They have a wine bar but I wouldn't want to drink here unless you were outside on the patio. The decor inside was kind of industrial and they had a sports game on a huge tv, which didn't mesh with the hip/sparse/cyclist vibe of the place. I must say, the set up at Cheffie's is what makes the place so great. You walk in to the restaurant and can either order from the menu or build your own salad or sandwich. It's pretty brilliant, this build your own meal deal. It reminded me of subway, in that respect, and I really appreciated that. Being a Cheffie's first-timer, I ordered off the menu. I got the chicken Caesar salad, and it was delicious. Their croutons have an almost southwestern taste. I would love to take a bag of those home. As a newby I watched, half impressed, half irritated, as the girl in front of me made her own salad. Although she spent forever getting 47 different toppings on handfuls of lettuce (and for that she should be kicked), she made a damn good looking salad. I was so impressed. Having visited this place quite a few times now, if you're feeling healthy, head on over to Cheffie's! In the rare occasion that I actually want a salad over "real" food, I make a beeline to this place. The location is awesome, especially if you live somewhat in the midtown area or if your just on an afternoon stroll down the green line (it's literally right off of the green line). We've probably dined at Cheffie's Cafe 5-6x in the last several years. I mention this because we recently tried to use a Door Dash deal through our Chase card that was set to expire at the end of 2021. The first night we ordered through Cheffie's through door dash we arrived at a closed restaurant. Ok--probably not their fault. We attempted again the following night. Our order was ready for pickup per the app, but they told us they were out of chicken when we arrived. So our food for the second night wasn't ready. Still understandable right. The employee then proceeded to turn around and offered no apology. I'm aware of the profit grab that door dash/grub hub pose, however don't take your feelings out on the customer. You had to be there to understand this guy's lack of concern. We've always liked Cheffie's but probably won't be going back based on their attitude and the treatment we received. read more

If you are in Memphis, you have to make a stop at Cheffie's Cafe! My girlfriend and I were in town last weekend, and on our way out of town, we stopped at this great cafe. According to weekend hosts, the building that Cheffie's is in is pretty historic. Which was pretty apparent when looking at the exterior and surrounding establishments. The inside is clean and welcoming, but a little on the cold side. Burr! Their menu is made up of a ton of different salads, sandwiches and soups. We literally stood there for ten minutes trying to narrow down what we were going to order. I ordered the curry chicken salad and my girlfriend ordered a chicken sandwich and a cup of soup. My curry chicken salad was delicious. Curry chicken has become quite popular on salad menus, and this was some of the best I have had. The chicken tortilla soup was awesome! There was so much flavor in that small bowl, I just couldn't stop sneaking bites from my girlfriend. Everything about Cheffie's Cafe is just awesome! This is going to be my go to place from here on out when visiting Memphis! read more

You can grab a salad or sandwich without gaining all the weight back that you attempted to shred on the trail. Cheffies is located in a nice neighborhood spot in High Point Terrace, so expect locals and very few if any tourists. The cafeteria-style service was nice and the food was good. There has been quite the buzz about Cheffie's lately, so I HAD to check it out. Cheffie's is a (kinda) new restaurant in the High Point strip, surrounded by a peaceful, pedestrian friendly neighborhood. After 10 years of being MIA, Cheffie's Cafe has once again graced us with its presence. The best part about Cheffie's is that it is a couple blocks right off the Greenline, so you can ride your bike directly there. This is what I did. Cheffie's atmosphere is unique, and it has something for everyone. There is a nice patio area, for people to soak up the beautiful weather. There is a mini-bar inside, with a few beers on tap. They have two different kinds of Ghost River! There is a nice indoor seating area, with flat screen TVs to watch the game. Also, there is a bike shop on one side of the restaurant. You can stop in to get your bicycle a tune-up and grab a bite to eat while you wait. This place was obviously designed for Greenline bikers. The menu for Cheffie's is all sandwiches and salads. You can pick from a list, or you can build your own. Their topping choices are vast, so I recommend having it your way. I built my own salad, which included (but was not limited to) feta cheese, chickpeas, tomatoes, bell peppers, artichoke hearts, and chicken. Scott chose the Santa Fe Salad, and we split a side of potato salad. For dessert, they have a gelato bar! I really liked Cheffie's, and I will be back for a repeat visit. One of the most amazing things about Cheffies is that when people walk in it's a very no frills unassumingly awesome place. A recent visit with my friend started off with a side glance of "Where the hell are you taking me?" and ended in a "Oh I love this place now, so glad we came." The food is outstanding. I don't know anywhere else in Memphis that you can get a fresh badass salad at a reasonable price (Panera doesn't count because we've all eaten each of those salads 1000 times). The ingredients are always fresh and you can order a specific salad or get creative and make your own. There soups are also amazing. I do wish they offered a half salad and soup combo though. The portions are huge and the prices are great. They also offer sandwiches and gelato (neither of which I've had) and they offer beer and wine as well. Oh, I am so glad I found Cheffie's! Many times, my husband and I just cannot think of a good healthy food option that won't cost an arm and a leg nor take a year to get in and out of there. This place is great because they have very large portioned salad with fresh ingredients and offer many panini options as well. I haven't tried the panini's yet, but I hear they are wonderful. You definitely get a lot of food for the price point. They also serve beer and wine, coffee, and gelato (!!!). Being right off the green line, it seems like the perfect combination for both your healthy appetite and your favorite vices. The environment is great; it has a reclaimed wood, concrete, and brick industrial feel. A great patio out back with ample seating sounds promising for the warmer months. It looks like they also share space with a bike shop on one side, but it was not open while we were there. My only complaints are that my salad had too much dressing. The salad offerings are just delicious! 3 types of greens, turkey, chicken, half a dozen cheeses, fresh and sundried tomatoes, nuts, assorted veggies, dried cranberries, and all manner of tastiness. When you get your bowl loaded just the way you like it. You can either have the salad tossed or chopped. I strongly recommend chopped. It allows all the flavors to meld and mix. The bowl is fairly large, so the $8.50 pricetag is worth it. I have not tried the other offerings. They have gelato, pimento cheese, and sandwiches. I don't care for the salad dressings. Fortunately, with the tasty salad, I didn't really need it. The staff was polite and quick. Both times I went, the dining room was fairly empty. I'm a huge fan of this place. Hands down, the best salads in Memphis for an amazing price! Their portions are HUGE and they don't skimp on the good stuff. You can make your own salad, or choose one from the menu (but you can definitely make little changes to them). They ask you if you want your greens chopped or not, and they give you the option to toss the salad or leave as is. They also give you the option of having the dressing on the side, or just having them add it in for you. I almost always have the Greek salad. Absolutely delicious and so filling!! And everything tastes so fresh. They have sandwich options too, and I've tried some, but I have to say the salads outshine anything else they can possible serve here. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and they are located in a really nice part of town (Highpoint Terrace). There are no servers, you simply walk in and stand in line, tell them what you want, they prepare it right in front of you, then you grab it and pay, and then you just sit and leave when done (nice not to have to wait for the bill/change). They also have beer options available (I'm pretty sure they have their own pint night), and they have a gelato bar (don't even get me started on how good that is)!!! Give this place a shot when you're tired of eating greasy/fried food. I've been to Cheffie's probably 2-4 times per week for the past 3 years. Here is my experience: !. For awhile they had no salad containers and put the salads in a cardboard box (great for an oily dressing) - manager forgot to order the containers. 2. Many times they have no lettuce, so one cannot get a salad - manager forgot to get the lettuce. 3. Shortage of bread, absolutely no rye and very little sourdough, because the manager forgot to order it. 4. Watered down dressing (ranch: 3 parts water to 1 part ranch). I presume, once again, the manager forgot to order it. I am beginning to wonder if there really is a manager at this spot. I haven't seen him - does one really work there? This gem is hidden right between two busy areas of town. I only say hidden because I've never seen it. It's unassuming and big for a cafe. I like salads and the salads here are awesome. You can pick from the menu or make your own. I lean towards the Cobb salad at most restaurants. I like the one here because they chop the greens really small. I like that because it makes the salad easier (cleaner) to eat. They also have nice assortment of sandwiches and chips...and they serve local beers. Empty bowls and food strappings are left on tables. Employees are courteous but all standing around chatting at computer when customer enters...wait for service. Wow! I really love this place. I went here with a friend and her family before heading back to Nashville. What an awesome place! I went for the Tuscan chicken sandwich and the tortilla soup. Both were mildly spicy (I opted for pepperjack rather than swiss cheese), and kept me nice and warm in the freezing cold building! Boyfriend got a GINORMOUS salad, which was beyond delicious. Everything there is fresh, crisp, and flavorful. Their options are truly endless. The staff was helpful and nice, and the set-up of the place is really cool! You can go watch TV and sit on couches (living room style) or you can opt for a picnic style system. Both are fun, and the large space allows for a lot of people without it being noisy.
