Tuesday 8/13/2024 Found this spot while in a Tik tok comment section so I decided to try it for myself. I made a takeout order via phone call and the service experience was easy. I got the chicken Philly $11 and the crab cake shrimp fish plate $24. - The chicken Philly was decent and the bread was nice and soft. Also the fries were pretty decent as well. - The crab cake shrimp fish plate was solid and if I was ranking the seafood I'd say: crab cake first, then shrimp, and fish. Overall, this was a solid food experience with decent food and good portions but nothing crazy or really impressive to me.
Driving to the location I was skeptical I had never been in the area before and I was like oh my goodness where is the GSP taking me. Once I entered the restaurant I wasn't greeted at all, there were only two workers so I am going to assume that they were really busy since there was about 4 cars outside before us. You can order your food from the kiosk what's great is that once you order you can go back in your car and the food will be delivered to you. Other then that the Philly cheese was amazing 5/5 and the seasoning on the fries 5/5. I really enjoyed the meal. *Reminder that there is no sitting inside*
I only grabbed the fried fish because I had ate not too long ago before finding this spot. It was closing soon but I had to try before leaving and I regret not getting the wings. Owner was helpful and you can tell they care about their business. The ambience was unique and you can tell the community gave lots of love! Will be coming back for sure.
If not the best it's def top 5 in the 757 area for Philly cheesesteak. I'm a fool for well cooked Philly. Scrumptious ... run and go try it now!
After reading the reviews on here we decided to give this place a try! I was thinking to myself... fish tacos and Philly cheesesteaks at one place sounds a little random but man both of these are fabulous. You can smell the delicious seasoning before you even open up the fish tacos . It smelled like it would be really salty but it was absolutely perfect. Coleslaw is fantastic and there was like a semi sweet sauce on top. I'm usually not a person who likes sauces on the sweeter side but this entire combo works. Big portions and prices were more than fair. Fries were also seasoned really good. We will definitely be ordering take out from this place again!
1st thing you need to know is it is take out only! No tables inside or outside. He started as a food truck and it is basically a brick and morter food truck. You go in and order and wait outside for your food. No waiting inside. We had no idea but it was a beautiful day so we sat in my husband's truck bed and had a picnic. I got the fish tacos and my husband got a fish sandwich and a Philly cheesesteak for later. The portions were huge. The food was delicious. They do have specials but fries is also the only side. Very basic menu but done well. I so wanted to try the She Crab Soup....only $8!!! Glad I didn't cause those fish tacos filled me up!! I have already told several people about this place. Worth checking out if you like delicious fried seafood for a great price and huge portions.
Service- it was ok/ server/ cook her personality was very dry... FOOD : The food was 100% freshly cooked and HOT!!! . And I LOVE, the fact they showed me , my food prior to putting it in the bag!!!+_ Lemon pepper wings was so good!!!! The shrimp was very good, also....Chicken Philly was different....it had a lite sweet tasting sauce and I didn't like that taste.. MIA...I DIDN'T no cheese, ..no herbs, oil and vinegar on the chicken Philly.... I will pass on that sandwich ...Next time, I am going 2 try the Catfish.. Looking forward to the next visit!! Thanks!
Stopped by to grab some seafood and was very pleased. I got the crab cake with shrimp platter and that thing was a mouth explosion. The shrimp was/is probably prawn sized, or at least tiger shrimp because they were huge. This make Popeye's butterfly shrimp look like a shrivel balloon. Crab cake had no fillers so all you get is shredded up lumps of crab. The fries are seasoned well and that sauce they give out is very flavorful. I also had the fish and that was delish as well. Definitely a keeper and a must come back if I'm in the area again.
Best chicken cheesesteak I have ever had. Weekly date night and we are on a path of trying new restaurants! So quite a few cars outside waiting, so that was a good sign. We went right in and ordered. The menu has many choices, but not too crazy that it is hard to decided. No room to wait inside, so we did wait in our car until she waved us back in. I went with the chicken cheesesteak and my SO got the platter with fish, crab cake, and shrimp...of course we couldn't wait to taste! All of it was delicious and we enjoyed the fries as well. Do yourself a favor and ask for extra cheese on the cheesesteak!
I found this restaurant through a random yelp search while travelling South. I had to try it for the name alone. My Dad's name is Skip and therefore... why not?! I am so glad that I gave this spot a shot! I ordered the crab cake, shrimp and fish platter. The food was fried perfectly. Crispy, not too oily, flavor in the breading and the seafood (a touch of salt goes a long way). The customer service wasn't the best or the worse. I get COVID has everyone a bit freaked out and standoffish but a smile, a hello, a "glass of water while you wait ma'am" goes a long way. Especially when I was the only person in the restaurant on what appeared to be a super slow day. Maybe they were having an off day? There were three people that day behind the counter and the air was very thick when I walked in. Either way, the food was excellent and everyone has a bad day or two or three. So if you are travelling through/pass VA, check Skip's out. There are at least 2 locations. It is quite worth the detour! I look forward to checking Skip's out again the next time I pass through VA -- Always happy to support Black Owned/Minority Owned/Women Own/Small businesses (weirdly in that order. sorry not sorry.).
I enjoyed my food from Chef Skip 757 but a few things threw me for a loop. When I pulled up to the location, an individual stepped out who was not wearing a mask and she works there. In addition, when food handling is taking place you should be dressed in a manner to prevent body hair, deodorant and any other debris from entering the food. Located in a small area that hosts other businesses, the parking lot supports parking in front or nearby. This is not an establishment that supports dine in based on how they are set up. You enter, order, wait, clothes absorb the smell of fry oil and your order comes out. I strongly suggest ordering ahead to limit your wait and less chance of your clothes/hair mimicking the smell of food cooling. When buying seafood, the price can be higher but unless you inquire, the menu only says "Fish and shrimp, chicken etc" The type of fish I received was Swai (part of the catfish family of fish but not as expensive). I think it would serve customers to know what is being served since "Fish Fraud" is a thing. The portion was respectable and the seasoning of the food was enjoyable. Not a terribly long wait for my order. The interior appeared really clean but the ventilation was not the best. You can't see into the place because the windows are covered and it's not easy to see out if you're inside either. The interior has only so much room that only 2-3 people can be inside while ordering if you intend on establishing some social distance. There is a food truck and a location in Portsmouth as this one serves the Lynnhaven area. Not floored by the food or experience so undetermined if I'd dine here again. Capable of contactless pay, credit cards and cash for payment options. An overall 3.75 review
I used to see Chef Skip's food truck in random places around town years ago before he even had his restaurants. But every time I seen it, I had already ate so I never tried him out. But on this particular day, I made it a point to go check him out at his restaurant. It was a Saturday afternoon during COVID, so I wanted to make sure he was even open. I called to the restaurant for about an hour or so, and no pick up. But my gut was telling me he was open so I took a chance and headed out. I saw other people hanging around in the front of the restaurant when I pulled up. So I made my husband go see if they were open and to place our To Go order. He came back and said our food will be ready in about 30 minutes! Ok now I see why everyone was hanging around outside..ugh!! We finally got our food and went to the park to have lunch (seems to be our new thing now). I got the Philly Chicken Sandwich with Fries and the hubs got the fried fish, shrimp and fries. My sandwich was good, seasoned well but too salty as well as the fish and shrimp. My bread was soft and had plenty of meat and onions. It was too much Cheese but that's just me. Next time I will ask them to add green peppers. Hubs fish and shrimp was crispy and seasoned well too. Overall our lunch was good. Definitely will be trying him out again. Thank you for reading! Best fish sandwich I've ever had. Great customer service and reasonable prices. Great vibes in general . Wife got the crab cake sandwich and said it was delicious. If I could give 6 I would .

Experienced the bliss of Chef Skip's fried food truck offerings at pub trivia 2 weeks in a row. $14 for a crab cake, fish and fries combo that actually fed 2 adults on week 1. Other than white fish, I don't know what specific variety it was but it wasn't fishy, was seasoned splendidly and fried with the right amount of cheat meal grease. The crab cake was my wife's least favorite of the trio; round like a plump hushpuppy but composed of mostly breading. Fries were seasoned with old bay and had just the right texture; crisp composition so if you hold it up, it doesn't droop or sag over on itself...but not brick-like a la week old baguette. One of the heroes of the meal was the orange sauce that my wife described as "I don't know what kind of sauce it is, other than orange, is but it's good." Week 2 saw Swai Fish tacos that, despite never hearing of that kind of white fish, were very good; 2 for $9, edible flower included. Had a great convo with the owner's brother, Byron, who was holding down truck service because Chris Skipper "went brick and mortar in VB." Also learned Byron is following suit with a Chef Skip store in Portsmouth! Keep on cooking and creating Chef Skip! read more

The food is great! The location is not off the main road, but you won't miss it if you're driving by. I liked the open kitchen area. The crab cake sandwich was delicious. The sauce in top of the crab cake was uniquely tasty. It didn't contain a lot of filler. The fish tacos had a HUGE filet in each tortilla. The fish was cooked perfectly. I'm glad I found this spot, and I'll definitely return. I hope the banana pudding doesn't run out the next time I come back. read more
Very good food. Not over seasoned. Great presentation as well. The front has waaaaaay to many signs to communicate expectations, I recommend printing one large document stating requirements because it's overwhelming. Staff was quick in taking and completing orders. The chicken Philly comes on an amazingly toasted buttered/oiled and soft bread that did not harden when reheated. read more

If you follow me you know i don't hand out 5 easily. That being said Chef Skip is 5 stars! Bottom line is if you want to carry out fresh crispy juicy tasty carefully plated and reasonably priced seafood AND not be hungry when you're done eating this is where you need to be. Logistics: pull up pick up and leave- that's what it's for so don't come lookking to dine in. This food goes home with you....OR If you're like me you eat it right there in the parking lot because it smelled too good to drive all the way home with. The staff was friendly and efficient, answered all my questions (I'm prob going to use them to cater my next super bowl party), i ordered TWO meals...cuz that's how I live- and my food was out in under 15 minutes. And for what I got that's excellent considering i watched the fresh ingredients come out the prep area and hit the grease . Per my usual, i got one thing they should do well and one thing i wasnt expecting to see on the menu. I got the crab cake and fish plate with fries. The fish was light flaky juicy and delicious. The crab cake was ALL CRAB. Just enough breading to hold it together. Also delicious! Fries are flavored and crispy! Second plate was a cheesesteak, four huge gulf shrimp and fries. Cheesesteak was not traditional but it was bangin. Meat was juicy, cheese was plentiful, had sweet peppers on it whic was a nice twist, and covered in "chef skips special sauce." Bread was soft and perfect and it Tastes fantastic. All in all I'll be back ...this week...and maybe every week till i finish the menu. read more

I first experienced Chef Skip from his food truck parked outside my office and once parked on Holland Road. Now that there's an actual brick and mortar location I will definitely make it my go to spot!! Today's special was Calamari *Mambo wings and sweet potato fries. Only wish they had a dine in option. Give them time....as I definitely hope there are expansion plans I the works! read more

Order cream of crab soup. What I received was a creamy sauce with crab meat on the side. Soup was spicy, greasy and not cream of crab soup , one of my favorite soups ever. I guess I will have to go down town Norfolk. read more

WHYYYY was today my first time having this food ? It was sooooooo good . I can't find anything to complain about at all . I ordered fish tacos ( $9 ) & a crab cake ( $7) because I was told I just had to try it . You have to get extra sauce too idk what it is nor what's in the sauce but it's amazing . The cashier was friendly and I'm sure I was in & out in about 10 mins. All of the food is cooked fresh to order , I'm just amazed . This food is better than any seafood restaurant I've been to in the 757 area not even kidding . I live less than 5mins from chef skip and I think I'm about to be a regular here when I'm craving seafood . read more

Wow! Nothing negative to say about Chef Skip. Been following him on social media but never had the chance to try him out til recently. Everything was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and delivered with a presentation. I enjoyed his "special sauce" which tasted like Italian dressing mixed with mayonnaise. I was diggin it. The only thing that made me gasp a little was the price points but hey, you get what you pay for and I'm not disappointed whatsoever. To give you an idea: $18 will get you fries, jumbo shrimps, 2 big pieces of fish, and a 4 oz crab cake shaped into a ball. For $14, you can get the same minus the crab cake ball. My family tore our meals up. We were impressed and I esp loved the sweet potato fries and wish they gave the same amount as they do regular fries. Small take-out spot in the Green Run area so don't expect to order and dine in. You get it to go. I appreciate the open concept so customers can see the action in the kitchen. From what I could see, everything looked clean and in working order. You can even sign your name or leave your mark on their walls. The girl at the front was nice and asked if it was our first time in there. She even showed us our food before bagging it up and I really appreciated that. It eliminates getting bamboozled when you get home and see you got the wrong order. I'm def a fan and wish them all the best!!! When payday hits, I'll be coming back fo sho!!! read more

After hearing everyone speak so highly of this restaurant, I decided to give it a try. I went through the pictures and realized they sold the fries that I had been looking for for a while. I was excited. I ordered the crab cake sandwich meal. I went to pay and realized the fries were different--they weren't the ones from the pictures..I was disappointed but decided to try it out anyway. Overall, I wasn't impressed. Ok listen.. I've been meaning to write this review for over a month. Within this time, I've eaten here AT LEAST 3 times. I've introduced Chef Skip's food to over a dozen people because it is JUST THAT GOOD. Growing up here in the beach, seafood is essential while GOOD seafood is hard to find. Skip keeps his menu up to date, prices fair, portions LARGE, seasoning plentiful, and seafood fresh. This is literally my number one spot for shrimp, CRAB CAKES (all lump meat, no filler), fish, and even philly cheesesteaks and wings!! Every single thing I've eaten has been amazing and left me full with plenty to eat the next day. Even the fries reheat and taste just as good as the day before. I have no bad experiences. Please support small, black business and get you some!! read more

Sketchy location especially for tourist but the food was exceptional. Wish they had other sides besides fries like salad, potato salad, hush puppies, a veggie but fries is all. The food was seasoned to perfection and hefty portions. If ever in the area again and want a good meal to carry out would come here for the seafood platter again. read more

Hands down one of the best hidden spots in Green Run. Fish tacos, Shrimp Po Boy and Fish sandwich were by far some of the best I've had. Everything tasted FRESH, well prepared and not over seasoned like other places. The portion of fish in the tacos and sandwich were huge, same as the shrimp as well. Everything was perfect. Let me tell you this place was banging!!!! I'm a big guy with a big appetite, I underestimated this place. So I got the Fish, Jumbo Shrimp, and crab cake with fries platter for $18. Enough for 2 meals in one well worth $25. Everything was fresh, season well "not just that basic old bay," but actually season, hot, and crispy. The crab cake had more crab than bread and juicy, on top of that I ordered off UBER EATS. Not one mushy item in the box. I will be back with my peeps. read more
The hype is real, these were the best fish tacos I've ever had. They are fried perfectly, moist with a light breading with the perfect amount of seasoning. The filets were thick and tender. They were accompanied by a really nice cole slaw, finely chopped tomatoes, and a delicious sauce. The "Chef Skip" sauce, which they also sell by the bottle, is a winner. It is a mayo based sauce, with some reddish hue and a great balance of sweet and spicy without either flavor being overpowering. The fries on the side were also delicious, lightly coated and crispy and seasoned with Old Bay. I don't usually eat potatoes, but I ate a few of these. The presentation was also beautiful. It was in a syrofoam container, but artistically presented, the flower being a very nice touch. Their menu has the Southern African-American seafood classics you would expect, but executed in an elevated manner. The place itself is takeout only unfortunately, but don't let that prevent you from giving them a try, the food is phenomenal! They're located in a little strip of shops on Dahlia Dr, down the street from Green Run HS. They have a location in Portsmouth too, Portsmouth Blvd at Airline. This is a must try. Love the food here. I always get the shrimp taco or fish sandwich, I had the crab cake sandwich once it. The crab was soft inside and fresh, it was great. Whatever sauce they top it with is really good too! I've had it 3 times already will be back for more. (Didn't get a pic of the shrimp)..... one downfall about this place is they never answer the phone when you call to place an order. I was told by the cashier "we don't answer the phone during shift change" which is odd your losing money and they are always running out of food. They haven't gotten an idea of how much they will run through in a week or month. So they tend to be out of items often. Other than that this is a great place to eat & I will continue to come & hope they improve. read more

This was my first time trying out this place and I have to say that I am impressed! I was greeted immediately by the young lady in the front, she was very pleasant! I ordered the philly steak and shrimp because I knew that the sub alone wouldn't be enough for me. It was only a 10 minute wait for the food after I ordered inside. Everything tasted delicious and fresh! I really like the sauce that comes on the sub and on the side with the shrimp. I will be returning! read more

I ordered the fried shrimp and fries and it was really good! The shrimps were really big. It wasn't dry at all and the batter was very flavorful. The fries were amazing! I love how seasoned it was. The shrimp and fries goes well with their house sauce. The only thing is that I wish they had bigger portions. It's just that good you would want moreee! read more
