Chef Kristin is amazing! We hired her to do our 50th birthday dinner in Palm Springs. Going in I didnt exactly know what I wanted but I knew I wanted it to be good. From phone call #1, she worked with us on creating an amazing weekend of food for my girls weekend including a super special sit down birthday dinner. She tailored the perfect meal and even added her spin to the cake we bought by adding edible fresh flowers. The love was in the details. I cant wait to do it again. Love you Chef Kristin!

Chef Kristin and her professional team came into our rental home and took care of every detail from start to finish!

The food however was not the only high point - Honu Cuisine is a package. It's Hiram's incredible ability to source the best and freshest ingredients, use his customer's menu choices to perfectly match those ingredients, and create a beautiful, artistic, and incredibly tasty meal. It's also about Hiram's carefully chosen "front of house" assistant. That's right, he comes with a partner. In our case we feel very lucky and honored for that front of house to be Jordan. He is a long-time resident of the island, a fruit and vegetable farmer, and an incredibly knowledgeable foodie and Maui host. Separately Hiram and Jordan would be spectacular, together they are magical. The meal was entertaining, stimulating, and delicious. Hiram brought everything from cookware to serving dishes along with his incredible ingredients, Jordan brought fresh flowers and entertainment. Chef Hiram and Jordan were so much fun, and the dishes were incredible: the shrimp appetizer, the risotto, the crispy skin onaga on jalapeno/pork belly slaw, the roast chicken with pine nut/caper puree and root vegetables, and the banana coconut cream pie with fresh fruit in a savory/sweet crust. All the ingredients were fresh and organic, some picked only hours earlier on the estate Jordan manages. Everything was gorgeously presented and delicious. A real treat!

I'm always on the lookout for good BBQ, and it's nice that in Hawaii we are getting more and more…read moreoptions. So when I was in Kihei not too long ago, I settled on this joint. The wagon shares a lot with a seafood place and what I think was a shave ice stand. There was plenty of off-street parking. It was a blazing hot day, made worse by pavement and a lack of shade or much greenery. You have to walk over some gravel to place and get your order. The window of the truck is very high; I could barely reach it. They do take credit cards. The owner is nice and chatty, and was busy flirting with the young women in line in front of me. Since I never know if I'll be back to a BBQ place, I always go for a sampler plate. The three meat option set me back $25, but the portions were generous and could easily feed two, or maybe even three if their appetites were light. I don't care for coleslaw, so I asked for a double heap of potato salad. But my request was forgotten and I ended up with coleslaw anyway. I was told I could change it, but I didn't want to waste food. The owner said it was pineapple coleslaw and that people who didn't like coleslaw liked it. (I didn't care for it.) There were some tables and chairs but no umbrellas or shade. I was told the unbrellas kept getting blown away or stolen. I didnt want to eat in the car so I sat at one of the tables and hoped for a breeze. The meats I chose were brisket, chicken, and pork ribs. The brisket was best, soft with a nice smoke ring. I tried the house-made BBQ sauce; it was the thin and vinegary type. It was okay, but mostly I went without it. The chicken is usually my favorite, but it came in second here, being a little on the dry side. The biggest disappointment was the pork ribs. The meat was really tough and had to be dragged away, kicking and screaming, from the bone. (It should fall right off.) I liked the potato salad. If I ever go back here, I'll just order a half-pound or pound of brisket by itself.
