Awful ... just awful. I walked in 9a. Only person there. The tables and chairs were very dirty. A woman approached me and asked me if I wanted coffee ($2.50). I said no, and asked her for water instead. She asked if I wanted Mexican soda ($3). I said no - I just wanted water. She brought me a class of water (from where), and a straw (no napkin or silverware). I ordered the biscuits and gravy, with hash browns. Because I've been here before and knew that the hash browns might be undercooked, I explained that I wanted the hash browns well done and crunchy. Food came out very quickly. I first tried to taste the biscuits and gravy. Dried biscuits with a heavy microwave odor, and the gravy was clearly several days old. The hash browns could have not been more undercooked and unappetizing. Waited for the waitress to bring the bill. Instead, she instructed me to proceed to the counter. Asked me whether I was using a card. I said card, and gave it to you. Without any explanation, she gave me a bill that added $2 because I used a card. I asked why, and she showed me a strange small card behind her counter which she believed explained the charge. I objected, and she said "sorry" - for the 3rd time during my meal. Please don't go to this dump. Not worth 1 star. read more

I haven't been to Chef D's in years and it was great to see and taste the same delicious food. The little restaurant is not fancy or upscale, just simple. The menu is a mix of Mexican and American breakfast and lunch favorites. The prices are really reasonable. Our server brings coffee refills from a glass pot. She is friendly and busy greeting, waiting and bussing tables. I have a Breakfast Burrito Poblano which is filled with egg, cheese, hash browns and poblano chilies. The burrito is hot, delicious and huge. There is a small side of refreshing salad on the plate. My husband has the Huevos Rancheros which is one of their house specialties. The eggs are served on a corn tortilla and topped with a salsa verde. Beans and rice are served in the side. He gives his breakfast 5 stars. They have a kid's menu. There is plenty of parking (but a lot of pot holes). They only have about a 10 tables, so weekends can be a wait. read more

Went in person yesterday and had the chilaquiles with my father. They were to die for. Texture-wise, incredibly flaky and crunchy tortilla chips and both the chorizo and salsa roja were bursting with flavor. Overall a 10/10 dish and probably the best chilaquiles in Indy. Got Uber eats this morning because I was hungover and needed a boost, but the food was simply not good. I'll start with the somewhat good, the mixed fruit was a great value item, filled with all the fruit you'd want, and none of those orange and green blocks everyone ignores. But the entrees were quite bad. The Chimichanga Ds was absolutely flavorless. And I'm not exaggerating, the eggs, sausage, and tortilla had no flavor whatsoever. It's almost like they forgot to season it at all. And the tortilla, which you'd expect to be fried up and flaky for a chimichanga, was soft and mushy. Then the Quesadilla Poblana that my girlfriend had was equally lacking in flavor. Not only that, but it lacked CHEESE. The one thing that makes a quesadilla what it is - there was no cheese in it. I was hoping the side of cheese sauce (queso) could've made up for these abysmal dishes but it just wasn't enough. I don't like leaving negative reviews but there's clearly a lack of effort going into their delivery items, so I would caution against getting it on Uber eats, doordash, etc. Go in person, it's amazing, everyone's nice, the service is fast, and I can confirm that they season their food when they can see your face. read more

I would consider it a pretty basic breakfast: scrambled eggs, sausage (which was good), basic breakfast potatoes, and basic wheat toast. I was one of two customers there on a Monday morning. I personally experienced Chef D's service around 11am on Saturday May 25 as being the worst service I've received in the past decade at any restaurant. I arrived to a nearly empty restaurant, placed my order, and then watched various people sit down after me and get served long before me. I checked in with my waitress at about the half hour mark. After waiting a full hour, I was late for taking an important package to my Mom so I gave up and left, never to return again (for life). There are just too many good mexican brunch places such as Mexico City Kitchen (5 stars), 3 in 1 Mexican Salvadoran (amazing 5 star discovery), and Dad's in BRIP to put up with the most ridiculously worst service I can remember anywhere. Oh, just a down home Mexican dive. The special thing about this place... chilaquiles to die for, burritos that are perfect, and great enchiladas...OR bacon, sausage links, eggs, French toast, and pancakes!!! We've gone here often when we visit our son, and every time, we get just the most amazing food! Well.. let's start from the beginning wanted to go to Cracker Barrel but it's gone but then went to Denny's and let me tell you Denny's is not a good spot up there on Michigan. I'm not sure what address that is but it sucks we went in it was just three of us. It was not busy and the cashier, I'm sorry she was cashing someone out and someone else w her... standing there with her. She goes to the kitchen to complain about how she's been there since 530 and now it's like maybe 9 o'clock and how she wasn't gonna help anybody blah blah blah so we left and we ended up at Chef D's breakfast small quaint love it. The menu is very plentiful. We went for breakfast, but I wanted some of everything that was on there. It was my birthday the day before and we needed to get some food: my friends had to back home to Chicago and we came up with this place. Love it will go BACK! read more

One of the better breakfast burritos I've had in indy - including some of the higher priced places in Broad Ripple. Nice mix of sauces and queso on top. I liked that it was served with Mexican sides of rice and beans instead of hash browns. I might ask for some chorizo inside the burrito next time. Chef D's is in a low rent plaza and offers a small menu in a no-frills room. But the food is delicious and the price is easy on the wallet. Good coffee too. I would recommend. read more

Wandered in here after being in the area running errands during a weekday morning. It's next to an Enterprise in a strip plaza. There were at least probably 10-15 tables including the few outside, most were available. The service was super fast and friendly. Menu was robust with Mexican options and some classic breakfast options. I ordered a breakfast burrito with chorizo and it was ready in about 10 minutes. It comes with potatoes inside and some lettuce, sour cream and salsa Verde on the side. The burrito was grilled on the outside and I liked that. The flavors inside felt a bit bland but I added the salsa and hot sauce and it was decent. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but the service was great here so I would try it again if I'm in the area. read more

We were looking for a new breakfast spot after running an errand in the Park 100 area . I'd bookmarked Chef D's so off we went. Chef D's sits off Michigan Street in a older strip mall between Big Lots and Enterprise Rental. Plenty of parking in the lot. The restuarant has a smaller, L-shaped dining area. You seat yourself at one of the approximately 10 4-top tables. We were acknowledged and menu given but waited quite awhile till the server asked for drink orders. We waited to the point my patient husband was ready to walk out. It appeared two woman were running the entire restaurant. One was bussing tables, server and cashier while the other was preparing the meals. Once we had the servers attention we not only ordered drinks but placed our order due to the long wait. The Mexican American menu offers both breakfast and lunch options. I ordered the Burrito Pablano - Pablano pepper, eggs, onions, quesillo cheese topped with Bandera sauce and served with rice and beans. I much appreciated the lettuce being served to the side instead of my burrito buried under tons of lettuce. The flavors were nice and just a touch of spice. Hubby ordered the Biscuits Special - 2 biscuits with gravy, 2 eggs, and hash brown. The menu notes all homemade but the biscuits tasted like canned biscuits. Again, nothing special but nothing wrong. The service was sketchy, our breakfasts were okay just not memorable. I don't imagine we'll make a special trip again. read more

His favorite Chilequiles are from a place in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. Not anymore! These were better. So delicious. I had the platano frito. Scrambled eggs, beans, home style potatoes, chorizo (my choice of meat but could choose from several), platano and avocado. It was amazing. They also offer a lunch menu with the typical Mexican food. As a 46-year resident of Tucson, I have eaten my share of Mexican food and can say that Chef D's Restaurant is the equal of any in the Old Pueblo. For its modest size, its menu is extraordinarily broad. More importantly, the preparation is outstanding and the service excellent. The Chilaquiles Signature Dish offers several choices of meat and frying the corn tortillas leaves a bit of crunch long after the being topped with your choice of green or red chili sauces. I can't recommend the dish, or the restaurant highly enough. Several Mexican treats are sold at the checkout counter, including the widest variety of Jaritos soft drinks I have seen in one place. read more
