Tried this place out seeing if it was similar to the one with the same name that was in Fairfield for a hot minute. I THINK it is or very similar. I went by myself to have lunch while running errands. Upon entering, it was your typical Chinese restaurant. Everything you want to see: a designated employee table where they were eating, supplies stacked in the corner, and the TV turned to a chinese cooking show. Great start lol. I was greeted immediately and sat in a booth. I ordered my go to first meal at a new spot: mongolian beef lunch special with chow mein. The food came out quickly, piping hot. The lunch special includes one veggie egg roll and egg flower soup. The soup was good. The eggroll was meh, an unnecessary add on IMO. The mongolian beef and chow mein however, were delicious! The only thing I would note was there was a TON of onions in the mongolian beef. Now I like a lot of onions and I'm not a big meat eater, but this was abundant. It was also not spicy, to keep, at all. I'll definitely be back to try other meals as their food is really good and a great value. I walked out spending an even $20 (including tip) read more

We were immediately agreed upon entry with a very friendly smile, hello and seated within minutes . Our food arrived piping hot, and inviting . The restaurant is a quaint family owned restaurant, very clean and tidy, it shines of family pride. The food was excellent, Mandarin, Szechuan, hunan, and Cantonese, we tested a little of everything . The egg flower soup was on point, and the General would be proud, generous portions sizes. Went to check out Chen's as we hadn't been there since it went under new ownership. They used to have a lunch buffet so my son and I decided to go see if it was still being offered. Not available, but we decided to still give it a shot. Mango chicken is delicious and the spicy chicken was very flavorful as well. Only complaint on this was that they put so much vegetables and only a few pieces of chicken. Still not bad for lunch specials. read more

First time trying this place since the new ownership. Tried it years ago when it was a different owner and didn't like the food too much. My husband and I decided to give this place another shot and we are so happy we did! We ordered takeout. We ordered Lemon Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork (perfectly breaded) (perfect ratio of breading and sauce) and Wor Wonton Soup. We loved everything! We are so happy and satisfied. We no longer have to drive all the way to Fairfield to get good Chinese food. Glad there's finally great Chinese food in Vacaville! The pictures I took of food, there was more food then what's shown, I took pictures of food after we ate. They give a good amount, and prices are fair. The restaurant looks clean and the person working was very friendly. This definitely will be our new Go-To when craving Chinese food! read more

It tastes so good tonight and just what the Dr ordered. Just had serious nose surgery and the egg flower soup delish and hit the spot. Wished there were crispy noodles but that is an easy fix for next time. We will have some here in the pantry. :] The staff members were so kind and clear on the phone. This place is wonderful. The food is great and the service is quick and friendly. My favorite dishes are the Generals Chicken with steamed rice lunch special. Which includes soup and an egg roll or I'll get their Mongolian Beef with chow Mein. There's a few good Chinese spots in VV but I don't love their Mongolian beef. But here, it's always great. Atmosphere is really casual. They always have a big screen TV playing cooking channels from Asia and I'm one of those people who enjoy watching that. Can't say enough good things about this place. I notice they do a lot of Togo orders so their dining room is typically open and they offer a great $1.99 beer selection that can't be beat. read more

We decided to try Chef Chen last night (11-14-24) which opened a few weeks ago under new ownership, and wow! It was fantastic! The offerings include a variety of Mandarin, Szechuan, and other Asian dishes created by the very friendly and accommodating family that run the new business. My boyfriend started with the egg flower soup and I had the hot and sour soup -- both were generous servings, arriving quickly and hot to our table. Delicious. For the main course, I had the curry chicken (super fresh vegetables, chicken cooked to perfection, and perfect sauce) and my boyfriend had the orange chicken (tangy and sweet with chunks of orange peel -- again delicious). Both portions were so generous that we had enough to take home for another meal! And the price? Very reasonable. There are set lunches and dinners that allow you to have soup, rice or noodles, a main course, and fortune cookies, or you can choose selections from their very extensive menu. Additionally, the restaurant has been remodeled so no more lumpy seats or "run down" look. There's even a big-screen TV that you can watch while dining, showing how some of the Asian dishes are made. Overall, we rate this the best Asian restaurant in Vacaville or the surrounding area. We are particular so it really means something that we give Chef Chen's 5 stars and wish the new owners much success. We'll be back soon! read more

The orange chicken was perfectly crispy with just the right balance of sweet and tangy. The fried rice was flavorful and not greasy, packed with fresh ingredients. The spring rolls were light, crunchy, and paired perfectly with the dipping sauce. And the chicken potstickers? Absolutely delicious -- juicy on the inside and golden on the outside. He found several options for us and was very patient in researching the ingredients. We enjoyed veggie egg rolls (no egg in wrapper) Veggie Chow Fun ( chow mein noodles have egg) and veggie friend rice with no egg. For our mains my Fiancé got the sweet and sour tofu and I got the hot garlic eggplant (fried in cornstarch) . We cant wait to work our way around the veg options.
