Since the original owners of Frank and Yuen are retired, I feel like Golden Phoenix is currently the best Chinese food in Fairfield & Suisun City. I typically order the dinner for one combination plate nearly each time I dine here. They give you a pretty large portion of food for the amount you pay, so I'm typically able to have 2-3 servings from the combination plate alone. The food is well seasoned as well, especially their fried rice and chow mein. My only complaint is that I did not enjoy the curry beef dishes I ordered. I felt like it wasn't too flavorful, so I had to end up using a lot of soy dance to enhance the flavor. 4 out of 5 stars. read more

This is my go to chinese spot in my area. The owners transitioned to "take out only" since covid, but they are still so nice and kind every time I pick up my order. The food has been consistently good every single time I order. The portion sizes are more than enough. There's leftovers for days and i'm always able to have extra for lunch or even dinner the next day. My daughter's karate instructor said that this place is the bomb and really loves the Cherry Chicken. After 3 months of her telling me this, I finally decided to go. It's very good. I have had a lot of Chinese food restaurants that I would go to either good or bad but this one is very good. I noticed the sign outside say Food to go only and that's ok because the inside needs remodeling or maybe not enough staff to accommodate customers inside. I have updated the picture to see the menu. PART 2 So, I wrote a review on this restaurant on June 25, 2025. I guess they thought I wasn't going to come back so they could make my Walnut Shrimp order right. Well! They don't know me well. I returned when in the area on 7/16/2025 around 5:05PM. I entered the establishment and the same young lady from before came to greet me. I told her, I was the one with the walnut shrimp order she had talked to before. You should have seen the look on her face! She turns and speaks (in her language) to an elderly woman, then to an elderly man from the back and then to a younger man. The younger man comes forth and their standing by the front counter. I explain the situation, since everyone is standing looking stupid. I explain that the walnut shrimp had 3 pieces of walnuts that didn't equal a whole walnut in the whole order, and I was asked to come back but was in another city, was told that not many walnuts was put in their walnut shrimp and could come back and get more walnuts. This is when the young lady states," I told her she could get a discount on her next order" WHAT A LIAR! I say, "Why would I come and buy something else when you haven't fulfilled your obligation for the original order?" I tell them "My mother and brother have been patronizing this place for over 10 years, and this is how you treat customers." They just stand and look at me, like I'm supposed to negotiate with them. I THINK NOT! Especially, when every time we come, we spend between $60-$80. I have cravings for soup. Their wor wonton soup fits my bill. I also love the egg land with beef. And their shrimp with mixed vegetables I don't think there is anything that I haven't tried eating there that I don't like. The food was really tasty. The hot and sour soup would have been perfect if it wasn't so sweet. It felt like a sweet and hot soup instead is hot and sour. Nevertheless, it was good. I got broccoli and beef with pork fried rice. They were both amazing. My only real complaint is that there was a shrimp shell in my soup. I love shrimp so it didn't bother me too much, but imagine if you are allergic?? Make sure you tell them if you are allergic. I will post a pic of the shell. When you walk in this place it's VERY NASTY. Rat traps in the corner very noticeable. I can only image how the kitchen looks.

As far as the price goes it's pretty expensive for what you get and white rice isn't included you have to pay extra for it if you want some with your meal. Atmosphere is a bit confusing and also concerning the front of the restaurant looks like they are using it for extra storage, as soon as you walk in you are greeted with a not so great pungent smell, you can tell things need a deep cleaning. They also don't answer the phone it's rings and rings even though they hear it they don't answer it to take orders you have to drive to the restaurant to place your order also as a paying customer you can't use their restrooms. Everything is really odd for a restaurant. I think this will be our last time ordering food from this place They really need to hire more staff to help cook, clean and help with taking orders, answering phone calls you can tell the women talking orders is in a hurry you feel extremely anxious and rushed when placing your order. On a whim I decided to give this place a try. I walked in to check out the menu. I noticed it was take out only, which was what I was going to do anyways, so no problem there. I ordered beef chow fun, pork chow mein, cherry chicken, and salt and pepper pork chop. $52, tip not included. She told me 10 minutes which I didn't believe and it might have been even quicker than that. When I got home, I understood why it only took that short amount of time. The chow fun doesn't have that fire wok flavor. The chow mein was a bit bland and looked like it was pre made and throw into a wok to reheat a bit with the type of meat people order. The cherry chicken was soggy. The chicken was probably pre fried, then sauce added when ordered. The pork wasn't crispy like I'm used to and lacked spice. Everything was slightly warm. It was really good before they renamed it to Golden Phoenix, but come to find out that employees bought out the business from the original owners however it still is very good. But somewhere over time it went from 5 stars to 3 stars for me. The food tastes a little different now, it's bland for a Chinese gourmet. i don't know maybe a new cook? Its like it's missing some good Chinese ingredients or are they adding less and saving money. Egg fu yung is not fresh, the egg seems different was it pre cooked? I ate here for the first time last week. I chose one of my all-time favorite dishes that I have gotten from other locations. Which is the egg foo young dish. My first visual impression of this was his looks delicious and well prepared from a presentation standpoint Once I started eating it I was really impressed with the toppings of the meat and veggie and salsa choice. But the what is supposed to be egg part was not my favorite nor did it resemble the egg foo yong dish. The patty taste it more like cornbread with sauce over it I'm not even sure there was any egg in it whatsoever. so I definitely feel like I was cheated out of what I consider the main ingredient of this dish. For take out during COVID we were impressed. We live like 3 blocks away so it nothing was soggy by the time we got home to eat. And it was pretty tasty. We got friend spring rolls (surprisingly crispy for take out) vegetable friend rice, vegetable chow mein and green beans with black bean sauce or family style. Of late, Panda Express has slipped in quality so we decided to give Golden Phoenix another chance and we were pleasantly surprised. The establishment is strictly take out although the interior still looks the same. Service was prompt and courteous. The young lady who took my order even brought my order out to my vehicle when it was ready. I ordered orange chicken, combination fried rice, and egg rolls. Everything tasted great and was above the quality of Panda Express. The quantities were good, too much for two for one meal. But that's all right. The wife and I live for leftovers.
