Breakfast burritos are kinda my thing, so when I see a place that offers breakfast burritos, I gotta give it a try. Chef burger is located at the corner of a parking lot and has plenty of parking spots. The line can get pretty long as it's pretty popular, but it can move fairly fast. I ordered a breakfast burrito and some onion rings and I can for sure say, take a pass on the onion rings. They were greasy and had no flavor. Tasted more like batter & oil, rather than onion. Next onto the burrito. A lot of people are happy with the sheer size of their burrito, but don't let it fool you. It might seem like a steal for the price and it's size, but I still don't think it's worth it. There isn't much of the 'good' stuff in the burrito, and it's only that size because it's stuffed with A LOT of has browns, which also didn't have much flavor either. It was at the point where I had to flood my burrito with salsa, just so I could taste something. I personally think they can skip out on so much of the hash browns in the burrito to not drown out all the other components in there. read more

Portion control is the key to leaving Chef Burger happy. The food is excellent and a great value considering how much food you get when you eat here. Many a time I have left Chef Burger in a food coma due to over eating. I usually come here for breakfast but the burgers and fries are great for lunch. It can be really busy at times so it might be worth it to call your order in and pick it up especially on the weekends. Corned beef hash and eggs is my go-to dish because Chef Burger doesn't skimp on the hash, eggs, or the hash browns. The biscuits and gravy is really good there too because the gravy tastes homemade and the biscuits are soft and tasty. When I'm on the go I'll order the breakfast burrito. WARNING...the burrito is so big and full of goodiness that you might exploded trying to eat it. No seriously its out of control. The first time I tried the breakfast burrito I was astonished on what was inside of it. Eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, cheese, and hash browns were fighting their way out of the opening I created with my first bite. I literally counted 4 whole sausages in the burrito. One of those sausages almost poked me in the eye after one of my bites (I know, that's what she said). Probably not the greatest seating area in the world but not the worse either. A Simi Valley staple for many years, Chef Burger is a great place for good but greasy food for a great value. The three stars is for the breakfast burrito and the falafel sandwich. There is consistency issues with the quality of the food especially when they are busy. My husband got the chicken and waffles one time and they were spot on but the next time both waffle and chicken were borderline burnt to a crisp. The fries are good when they are cooked enough but I have found that they tend to be soggy. The iced tea tastes not fresh (as if it's from the day or two ago) Update: Whelp we will never be back. Tried to get a breakfast burrito to go. Got home just to realize the eggs were undercooked and made the sausage slimy. I didn't take a single bite( I opened up the burrito to check out the inside when i was suspicious about the fact that it was ready and handed to me almost as soon as I ordered). I should have gone with my instinct and not left before checking it out but was in a hurry. I ended up bringing it back and getting a refund. The owner was willing to return my money an I appreciate that but I will never return to chef burger. I just don't want to risk spending my day in the bathroom sick. read more

For a small place off the beater path this place is good. Waffles and Chicken rocks. I had their combo eggs, waffle and chicken. The chicken has a really nice crisp light batter. Stumbled upon a new place. Going greek again. Now, i can only compare this to Daphne's and the aforementioned Greek House Cafe (see my stellar review here on Yelp somewhere). Not bad. the prices are reasonable. The guys behind the counter seem to know their stuff. the flavor was GOOD. but think maybe the Greek House might habve this place beat. I ordered a breakfast burrito with potatoes, bacon and cheese only since my son is allergic to eggs. And the burrito was massive, definitely worth it for the price in my opinion. My only huge negative was that the cheese was just a slice of kraft cheese thrown in. I hate kraft cheese as it always makes me sick, thankfully it wasn't fully melted so I was able to pull it out. Came here for breakfast with my bestie and her fam a few weeks ago, and it was quite good. Not crowded, decent breakfast and plenty of space to sit and chill. Wow found a hidden gem in Simi of all places. My son goes down the school from here and stopped by this morning after dropping him off for school. I had heard they had good breakfast burritos but after trying these monsters would have to say they are HUGE and delicious. For less than 8 bucks my wife and split one and walked away satisfied (I could have eaten one on my own but would have needed a nap after due to food coma) The ambiance is a dive but the food was good. This place is not the same as it once was. Been going here for many years. Switched ownership a couple times. When Carlos took over about eight years ago it was still good. He and his wife ran it similar to Boulevard Burgers. Their other location that has been a staple in Woodland Hills for many years. As of the last six months Chef Burger has gone way down hill. The food simply isn't good. We go there regularly for lunch and breakfast (which will no longer be the case). There's been a big change (decline) in the quality of food the last six plus months. They raised the prices slightly, but you still get good sized portions. However, portion size and quality are two completely different things. Usually you see a drastic decline like this when ownership changes. We haven't seen Carlos or his wife there in the last six months. My initial guess would be they switched ownership again. Carlos and his wife have not been there in the past six months which aligns with the timing of their decline. Hopefully they figure it out since this has been a successful location for quite some time. read more

My wife and I got there at about 11:45 AM on yesterday. We were going to order hamburgers but when we saw pastrami on the menu we opted for that instead. I noticed that some pastrami was sitting on the grill and was overcooked but I had no idea that they would serve it to us. Nevertheless they apparently did. It was served cooked and looking more like bacon than pastrami and a small portion at that. I've got to say the lady who was at the counter who took our order was very nice. I just went to Chef Burger for some breakfast and when I was about to receive my food to go I noticed the "chef" was microwaving my entire meal. Not only was I disgusted but I asked him why do you have all this cooking equipment and then heat my entire meal full of cancer to go. HAIR ALL THROUGHOUT OUR BURRITO!!! We ordered a Breakfast Burrito here on Easter morning and while I was cutting the burrito in half I noticed a piece of hair. Then I saw another one. We opened up the burrito and there were over 10 short pieces of hair throughout the burrito!! There were probably more but we gave up looking because we were so disgusted. I really think the reason people are rating this place so high, is that its kind of like a Simi Valley landmark. Chef Burger has been around for as long as I can remember. Ever since the olden days when I went to Valley View. I've always thought that the food was just okay, and reaffirmed that thought today when I ate the philly cheese steak I ordered. Meat was pretty dry and bland, not enough onions or bell peppers, and the only time I got any kind of real flavor is when I got a bite with cheese in it. That's a bad sign, when not all of your bites coming from a philly cheese steak have cheese in them. The bun was split in two, making it hard to keep the guts of the sandwich in. Grease penetrated the bun all the way to the outside of it. I am usually NEVER one to mind greasy food, but this was crazy. The fries, even with seasoned salt DECKED on top, still managed to have no flavor either. On top of all this, my food took almost three times the time it took for my friend to get his french toast, eggs, and sausage meal. Not only was the food whatever, the establishment needs a makeover. The place looks like has never changed since I was in jr. high, and it shows; It just dirty looking. Large menu, but it's a large and confusing menu. Quantity isn't always a plus. I really wanted to give this place a better rating, seeing as how I've been going here for so long. I remember it being better than it is now, but I think that's just due to me not having anything to compare it to before. It's a juicy, salt and peppered, old fashioned burger. The thick-cut fries were above average. The bathroom was clean. I wish the menu was a bit more organized. The decor is lacking. The TV was very loud. The ketchup bottles are those soft plastic kind that never get washed. I hate those. They always look so unsanitary with the crusty old ketchup on the mouth. This is a quaint little place. The owner is very nice and always has a smile on his face. They have some really great breakfast. You definitely get what you pay for with the burritos, you could feed a family of four with one of those. Their burgers and fries are good too. The burgers are thin for those that like thin patties. The bacon is nice and crunchy and the eggs are perfectly scrambled (not runny and not dried out). They also do a great job with pancakes, omelettes and especially breakfast burritos (which are frickin HUGE!). Lunch is a good option too with a wide open menu, something for everybody.
