To be honest the sandwiches were kind of dry. The portions were extremely generous; the sandwiches were overstuffed with meet. My boyfriend got the turkey delight. I've been at Berkeley for over three years now, and Cheese N' Stuff is still my favorite sandwich stop for lunch. With it being ridiculously cheap, you could get a filling sandwich for less than 4$! The location is convenient also, as I've found it possible to stop for a quick bite to eat within a 20-minute time frame and be back on campus in time for class. Although I have read the reviews before and some people comment upon the immediate stomach pain after eating one of these sandwiches, I can say that happened to me a couple times also. i gave this place 4 stars because of its inconsistent hours! They pretty much open when they feel like it :( Lines can get long but it moves fast. The workers are really nice. This is a great place to get a quick, cheap, yummy lunch! You can create your own sandwich. You first choose the bread, then cheese, then meat and other toppings. Probably the only place these days were you can get a decent sized sandwich for under 5$!! I haven't been here in awhile since it's a bit of trek for me tucked away in the Durant/Channing alleyway on southside Telegraph, but it's still as good as ever! I use to come here every week for sandwiches as a college student - it's near campus, walking distance from Telegraph, by the dorms and cheap. You can select your own bread, cheese, meat - just like Subway, but the bread is usually stale and jawbreaking. I mostly came here for the affordable sandwiches, but sides were on the pricey side. I had a few friends that got food poisoning from here - I was fortunate to miss all that, but I'd question the cleanliness. This place is right next to bus stop and it takes literally 5 mins to get there and back for class. The service is super quick and the sandwiches are good. The place is full of frat boys because they apparently take meal points or some type of points for the athletic program. I loved this place when I was a student. Quick, cheap, and tasty sandwiches right off the campus. It is sort of hard to find if you dont know where it is. In the alley next to unit 3. My favorite was the croissant sandwich. It's 50 cents more but it's always worth it. The folks there are really nice too, I was 50 cents short once and they let me have my sandwich and soda anyway! I made sure I paid them back the next time I was there. =) They also have a good selection of pasta salads and all sorts of goodies available too. This place is dangerous. You start off eating there every so often. Then it becomes every week, and then maybe 3 times a week. The good news is that it's super cheap. The bad news is.....hmmm...I don't think there is bad news! The line goes out the door, but the sandwich makers are fast! The owner is always nice and chats it up a bit if things aren't too busy. Sometimes, the sourdough bread is really stiff.... and it's kind of hard to bite through the whole sandwich... kind of hurts my mouth... Now this could be because cheese n stuff is supposed to have good sandwiches, but i'm a vegetarian, so i just got falafel, salad, and beans. But still, a place should be good no matter what you get. The falafel was cold, not fresh, kinda hard, and lacked flavor. The beans had wayyyyy too much oil on them, an the salad had way too much dressing. The Dish: Really, I'm a BIG fan of a $4 sandwich (after tax). You really can't get any better than that - anywhere. I love the tuna salad, but it's really messy. It has a combination of a zillion flavors together and somehow it just works. I admit, it's a bit soggy, but hey - it's a $4 lunch! My new favorite place to buy lunch. I always order a sandwich that is so simple that the delis back home, accustomed to more complicated order, tended to get it wrong. Cheese 'N' Stuff has always gotten my sandwich right thus far and, as others have noted, the price is extremely reasonable given the size of the sandwich. I also love that they have Baked Lays and a wide variety of soft drinks. The cookies and fruit look very enticing, though I've yet to give in. The gentleman who owns the place is perfectly charming. He always smiles and asks me how my day is going. The other people on staff seem polite and work very efficently. 5 stars for inexpensive (but not cheap) sandwiches / Middle Eastern food ---- Cheese N Stuff is a great place to grab lunch in Berkeley. It is inexpensive, but I would not call it cheap since their food quality is high. My favorite is the deluxe falafel wrap! It has hummus as opposed to the regular falafel wrap, and it is worth the extra 25 cents. The falafel wrap is a lot bigger than I had expected, but as delicious as I had hoped. I have also had the vegetarian sandwich that I enjoy, but I think the falafel wrap is my favorite. For what you're paying and what you're getting, this is really the best place around campus to go for your simple sandwich. Less than $4 for a large sandwich with lots of meat? Yes please! I just tried their regular sandwich with dutch crunch and roast beef. It was a cold sandwich with your average ingredients, but everything was great and really fresh! The bread was hard to chew through and the meat didn't have that much flavor, but I was satisfied and considered saving half the sandwich for later because portions were generous. Probably the best meal deal I could find around campus for under $5. NOTE: Cal 1 Card or Cash only! The place is difficult to find and hidden under the orange parking structure. It isn't a place to sit and eat, but a place to grab a quick sandwich. They also offer a variety of bottled drinks, potato salads, and wraps. I would love to try these foods, but I still think the giant sandwich is a better deal. Subway can't compare (plus, this place doesn't have the lingering Subway smell or the meaty Deli meat smell either) Service is so-so. They aren't the friendliest of people and they strongly enforce their cash only rule. I was the only one in the store, so I wouldn't say service is particularly efficient. Cheese n' Stuff gets you the most bang for your buck when lunch time rolls around. They seem to have the same type of sandwich that most places around campus have, like the Bear's Lair and Sandwich Zone, but the service here is really great. The owner is super nice and makes an effort to know the regulars. Some of the fraternities even have meal plans here where they get like 5 sandwiches a week! They also do lots of catering for campus events, especially for Cal athletics. My favorite sandwich here is the vegetarian. You get a huge, 1/2 inch thick slab of feta cheese, avocado, and all the veggie toppings. Its the perfect light lunch. My other favorite is the turkey delight, although this one can be pretty messy. It has turkey, cranberry sauce, and avocado. Turkey and cranberry is an A+ combo. Plus, pretty much every sandwich is under 5 dollars, most under 4. Can't get cheaper than that! I frequent this hidden gem several times a week and enjoy their sandwiches, but would have to disagree with everyone below me who say this is one of the best sandwiches around campus. It is definitely a student favorite, but I'm sure it's largely for reasons other than taste as well. Cheese N Stuff is great for three reasons: 1. Extremely cheap. You can get most sandwiches on the menu for under $4, a little over half the price of an average meal around campus. 2. Great location. It's only one block away from Sproul Plaza and campus, so even when I have a very tight schedule I can manage time to stop by. 3. Ridiculously fast. Because of the high demand, there will often be a line out the door near peak hours, but that line moves very fast. When it's your turn to order, it probably takes a minute from the time your order is taken to the time it's wrapped up for you to pay. On top of that, Sam, the store owner, is an awesome guy who loves to talk and joke with you every now and then. A lot of athletes and greek students come by all the time because of meal plans and convenience. In conclusion, if you're searching for a tasty sandwich, this isn't the best place for you, but if you also want a good bang for your buck with much convenience, there's no doubt you should pay a visit. read more

4 stars for deluxe options made available at fantastically cheap prices ($4.25 for everything on it!) I will admit that the quality is not perfect (sandwiches sometimes taste bland and dry) they are still really delicious. My favorite part about this restaurant is the size and portions of the sandwich. Most sandwich shops usually have a big size and sometimes have a half size, but somehow Cheese N Stuff's sandwich length always fills me up the right amount.
