We've been wanting and wanting to stop in to the cheese Louise off of the Kanc for some time! Located off of the kancamagus scenic byway in the picturesque mountain side and just down the way from our campground! We finally were able to swing by yesterday and I was not disappointed! They do only have a small menu of 4 grilled cheeses. We selected the "god mother" and the "blue buffalo" , both were fantastic. However I have to say, the star of the show, was the homemade chips and "secret sauce". The very eclectic young lady at the counter was polite, efficient, and personable, asking if we'd been before and pointing out different items. They didn't have much for a drink selection either, but their homemade lemonade was fanfriggintastic! They have a few picnic tables outside with a view and some lining the parking area as well. They have separate order and pick up windows and an open concept area inside. They have their story posted on the wall outside, as well as a cool United States map as well. Great location on the side of the road, it could be easily missed but such a great spot for lunch! Grilled cheese sandwiches were all delicious, I shared just a plain grilled cheese with my son and the cheese quality was amazing. You could taste the quality with just a bite. The person who rung us up was nice and informative and the food was quick to be prepared. We've passed by many times, and finally tried after a few days of backpacking nearby. This location has a walk up window, and offers a few non-alcoholic drink options like Spindrift. My husband has Celiac so he was happy they offered a gluten free bread option. They have lots of picnic tables to eat at and call your name when the food is ready. Porta-potties are also available. We were both disappointed with our grilled cheeses, and that was coming from two hungry hikers. They were ok, but didn't wow us. This would be a good quick service option for someone on their way back to accommodations or traveling. read more

I'm going to start by saying that of their sandwiches I've eaten, they have all been damn near 5 stars. The service, just as good. However, I can't give a higher rating due to the fact that they are repeatedly under prepared. I've visited their food truck at Congdons and at Soulfest. Their sandwiches are abundantly popular. Despite this, everytime I have visited Cheese Louise over the last few years, they repeatedly run out of the majority of their sandwiches fairly early in the day (between lunch and dinner). I grew up catering and working in restaurants, and I know that doesn't make me an expert by any means, but generally after the first few times this happens, you learn favorites, popular items, and when your busiest. So we arrived into North Conway on a rainy Sunday evening and were trying to find something to eat that wasn't a chain takeout place. With limited vegetarian options around, we wondered about Cheese Louise. There was some hesitation about eating in a shack-like area, but we figured "let's drive there, see what we think, and - worst case scenario - we find another option" Boy were we wrong. We made it at around 6:30pm, with a 1/2 hour to spare. It was raining, so we opted to eat in our cars as we still had a lot of our gear in our trunk (cooler, towels, etc etc). I order the Vermonter while my family got the godmother. These were very good. And as a bonus - we got some nice kettle chips on the side. I ate it all away I couldn't even take a photo. I have tried both locations around Conway and I have become a somewhat regular tourist visitor. The options are smarty limited to a few significantly different and interestingly constructed grill cheese sandwiches, with stimulating ingredients both in the cheese department (with for example Munsters and Aged Cheddars and not just your ole American) and in the accompanying toppings (Avocado, Bacon, and BBQ vegetarianness abound). The only downside is the price: $14 after taxes is quite steep, given that they are not particularly large, they come with a few crisps and that you pick up your food at a window and eat it on a rustic table (nice in summer but you are not exactly paying for style). Overall, though, a great place for a snack, and staffed by a great team. read more

This was a fun and unexpected find. I had been to their food truck several years ago and had no idea they had a brick and mortar location. I love the name. It's very memorable. They apparently now also sell ice cream sandwiches with a similar play on the name but I didn't try any and didn't see anything listed about flavors so it might be regular ice cream sandwiches. They do have a nice list of grilled cheese sandwiches. Some sounded fairly complex but we stuck with the basic Vermonster which had cabot and muenster cheese. Can't go wrong with that combo. The sandwiches also come with kettle cooked chips. Ours came with a fairly weird tasting tomato sauce bbq sauce (weird, I know). I didn't like the taste of that at all. My only criticism was how long it took. For ordering a basic sandwich, it took much longer than I would have expected and also people who came after us who had much fancier orders were called first which was kind of weird. I appreciated their efficient and friendly service despite the chaos of serving so many people at once. They also are able to make most of their sandwiches vegan, which is great. I had the vegan version of the godmother, which was delicious and satisfying with pesto, tomatoes, balsamic glaze, and vegan cheddar. I also loved the vegan tomato soup. Low and behold was I surprised! And all preconceived notions went out the door. These guys "reinvented" grilled cheese by offering a variety of choices to include bacon. Surprised by the number of 5 star reviews, this was a solid three at best. Stopped in at the Conway location and I was actually excited to try the sandwich. I tried the Meatball special of the week and was overall pleased. There definitely could have been more meatball in the sandwich but the cheese was tasty and Marina sauce hit its mark. The chip were you standard faire kettle chips, probably right out of the Cape cod chip back out back. Drinks disappointed too as we were unable to get anything resembling the usual soda selection, would have settled for vitamin water or even a standard iced tea. Just some off brand seltzer water in a can and some flavored ice teas. The location has a lot of appear and swag, the staff was personable and great to meet. Overall it landed a solid average rating with me. If I was in the neighborhood again, I'd stop in but I definitely won't go out of my way to find them. read more

We stopped her before going for a hike in the Albany Town Forest, and we picked up a few grilled cheeses to go. My boys split a Vermonter, my mother chose the Baconator, and I got the Buffalo Bleu. They were more than happy to accommodate our request the Vermonter into two trays with no extra charge, and the food was hot and ready in 12 minutes (not bad!) Since we were going hiking, they offered to cover our trays, which was great so we could stack them in our hiking backpack.
