This little gem is a local favorite in the white mountain national forest area in New Hampshire. The food was great. I got the steak frites and my partner got the chicken piccata. Both were DELICIOUS. My steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the fries were amazing as well. The salad was great too. For drinks, we got the key lime pie martini and the lemon lavender martini. The service was quick and great too. The best part was the ambience - they have live music starting at 9 pm and some nights it's open mic. So we got dinner with an impromptu show and we loved it. I would come back here when I'm visiting again. One thing I would check before heading here for dinner is the hours. They are not open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays like most restaurants in the area due to staff shortage so I would double check they are open before making dinner plans here. read more

Solid spot with few improvements needed. Loved the farm to table vibe! When we arrived, our poor waitress (who was great) was the only server in there with a full restaurant. It took us about 15 minutes to get wait on. Our drinks were fabulous (manhattan and pickle martini) and appetizers were decent. Caesar salad had some brown lettuce and barely dressed but soup was yummy. Chicken piccata was great and the beef bowl was awesome! Entrees are the Star. We ran out of there before dessert as it took us 45 minutes to get water and our waitress was run ragged! We didn't want to wait 25 min for dessert. We had a couple of problems with this restaurant, some of them were probably a reflection of how busy they were on a holiday weekend. We have to compliment Luke, our waiter for poise (and stamina) under pressure. He was also waiting on several large tables with small children which is a lot of extra work. So, hats off to Luke for being super helpful. The bar is large and occupies the center of the restaurant. There are no quiet areas. As a matter of fact, the noise level was overwhelming. If you like going to restaurants/bars and screaming at one another at the top of your lungs, THIS is your place! Seriously. I had a clear view of the bar and people there were literally standing cheek-to-jowl and yelling at each other. It was so bad I started to wonder if I was imagining it. So I pulled out my sound meter app on my phone and the noise level was consistently at 90dB! So I give the ambiance an F-minus. Eat outside at one of the few outdoor tables if want to hear one another. On a busy night like ours, don't sit near the door or you'll have a crowd of people looking over your shoulder to see how soon you might finish your meal. Creepy! Not a great place for a date, unless of course you really enjoy screaming at one another. Now for the food. The Caesar Salad was lackluster and the little crown of parmesan was stale. My French Onion Soup was sweet(?) Bizarre. For our main entrees, The wifey got the Brisket Sandwich. Two chunks of brisket, one of which was mostly fat. My Blueberry BBQ Pork Chop was overcooked, hard to cut and there was about an ounce or less of the storied bluebeery BBQ sauce. I have to say that I've never until that night, bit into a crunchy blueberry. I hope I don't get sick! The broccoli "mash" looked disgusting and tasted like overcooked broccoli sent through a blender. The potato salad was basically chunks of boiled potato in some sort of tasteless white sauce. For dessert we had the Chocolate Carrot Cake which was really a piece of chocolate cake with sweet white carrot frosting. It could easily have been a mix. I hope this was an off night for the chef(s), but we ain't comin' back. read more

We were looking for a slightly more upscale meal one night, and Chef's Bistro hit that mark. We had a wonderful experience at Chef's Bistro. We walked in without a reservation during dinner, and the host was able to seat us immediately. We were intrigued by the menu, specifically all the vegan and vegetarian options. Our server was incredibly friendly and personable, it was like we already knew each other. She was knowledgeable about the menu and the bar options, and shared that she had convinced the owner to get more ciders on tap (thank you!). We ordered the oven-baked baguette to start. It was SO tasty that I wish the baguette was twice as long to really enjoy the olive oil/balsamic vinegar mix. I debated what to order, but went with the salmon. The salmon was cooked perfectly and was well-seasoned (although perhaps just a bit too much dijon). I liked the flavor of the jasmine rice, but the garlic asparagus was pretty standard/was cooked in a bit too much oil. My partner ended up ordering what I had considered: the garden salad and potato leek soup. The garden salad ended up being huge! All very fresh veggies with a delicious parmesan peppercorn dressing. It was overdressed, but the dressing was so good it actually added to the salad. The soup was also a huge portion. We split the soup; I liked it but felt it needed to be strained once more. We were completely full, otherwise we would have enjoyed one of the desserts. Our table neighbor had the brownie sundae and it looked amazing. Located in the center of North Conway, you'll find this gem. We visited on a holiday night with a party of 6. The interior is cozy and inviting. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Wooowwww wow WOW!!! Honestly might just be the best meal I've ever had. We started with Chef's Choice Charcuterie (definitely recommend!!) and a half a dozen fresh oysters. AMAZING!! They told me that they get all of their bread imported fresh from a local bakery and their olive oil comes fresh from next door. I got the lobster roll (cold) for my main dish and my boyfriend got the swordfish (WOWOWOW!!). Both FANTASTIC!! We didn't have room for dessert but we finished our plates clean!! Ooh!! And I got a nice specialty non-alcoholic beverage which was amazing. I forgot the name but it was gingerbeer, lemon juice, and local maple syrup. Very much recommended!!! The review is for late lunch experience on 10/15/2022. Came here at around 13:30 for lunch. Was seated quickly. Beer: Moat Mountain pils. Standard. Would like a bit more malt taste. New England Clam Chowder: generous portion of potatoes and clams, but more like a broth, not the thick chowder you'd expect typically from this dish. Not very satisfied. Maple bacon apple mussels: an interesting dish. First time tasting mussels with a broth on the sweet side, but it worked. The sweeter broth and apple slices helped reduc the briny taste of mussels, and the bacon slices tasted like real smoked pork rather than the dubious deep-fried crispy stuff you usually find in some cheap restaurants. Entree: had the cornish hen. Portion was generous with the whole hen served. Soft skin, moist texture, went well with the pumpkin mash. Could use a bit more seasoning. My friend said the short ribs tasted standard, a bit on the dry side. Overall: 3.5-4 stars. Generous portion of food for the price. Clam chowder was a big miss, mussels a fun dish to taste, and everything else was standard. read more

I had the buddha bowl: hot quinoa, steamed spinach, roasted butternut squash, teriyaki tofu steaks, red pepper hummus and avocado. There were two vegan dessert options: vegan brownie with vegan ice cream, and baked chocolate chip cookie in a skillet with vegan ice cream. We had the brownie. One of the best meals my wife and I have had in the past year! Everything from our amazing waiter Tyler to every item we received at our table. The ginger beer maple mock-tail was phenomenal as was the fig puree one. Each had the perfect balance of ingredients! Our chefs selection charcuterie board was one of the best we have ever had as well! From the local honey, sweet peppers, micro greens, house made mustard, and of course all of the meats, salmon and cheeses! For Entrees my wife got the warm butter lobster roll with truffle fries which was made to perfection. I ordered the lobster casserole which was unlike anything I have ever had and exceeded all expectations! Who knew you require a reservation at all of the good restaurants in North Conway on a Thursday at 6pm? Chef's Bistro doesn't take reservations and it's rated pretty highly so it was the obvious choice when we were famished and looking for a tasty way to close out our last night in the White Mountains. By the time we arrived, at around 6:30 there was a 30min-1 hour wait. Thank GOD the couple that just beat us to the door in front of us didn't want to wait. We spent the time walking around the nearby area and entering a couple shops. After running out of stops to stop into, we decided to kill some more time and buy a powerball ticket at the gas station across the street (over 600 mil, might as well). Fortunately, while we were purchasing the tickets, I received a text that our table was ready! I'm starting to feel lucky already. The service was excellent, I will say that. There were a few items that appealed to me on the appetizer menu: naan chips and hummus and tomato parmesan cauliflower BUT we had cauliflower "wings" in the fridge from the night before so ultimately elected to go with their charcuterie board. I like the concept, they essentially allow you to mix and match. They provide cheese options, meat options, and various other components of charcuterie board and allow you to select what you want. A "build-your-own" board if you will. We ordered their gouda and drunken goat, grilled bread, crostini, and olives. At first, it looked as if I had ordered way too much bread lmao but ultimately we still had cheese leftover when all bread slices were long gone. The board was the best part of the meal without a doubt. The cheese and bread were absolutely delicious. For entrees, I ordered the vegetable tikka masala and GF ordered the seafood scampi. I inquired as to whether I could have the tikka without mushrooms and the waitress revealed that it's pre-made and the kitchen would not be able to remove the mushrooms after the fact. Because I'm vegetarian and this was the only entree option unless I wanted a sandwich for dinner (I didn't), I hoped that I could just avoid the mushrooms. Unfortunately, I couldn't. The dish is also loaded with onions which I didn't even try to push my luck on. When our meals arrived, the waitress said "be careful, the bowls are really hot". Putting pieces of the puzzle together, this was pre-mixed/pre-made and you just heated it up in the bowl? This place charges $23 for a lunch-sized portion of pre-made vegetables they reheat and serve as a dinner entree for TWENTY THREE dollars. You have got to be fucking kidding me. The rice was the best part of the entree. GF's seafood scampi (lobster, scallops, shrimp, linguini lemon butter white wine garlic sauce) was DELICIOUS but I will attribute that to the fact that you are ultimately slurping noodles in a soup of butter. The garlic bread was crisp and tasty as well but was aggressively salty. I forgot to mention. We ordered two drinks, I the pineapple habanero margarita and GF the cucumber martini. My cocktail was served in a high ball glass which is strange for a margarita and bland. I didn't feel buzzed in any way. GF's martini was delicious but didn't have that martini bite. Impromptu visit to North Conway from southern York County and we found this perfect little restaurant via Travelocity. First, it's small so getting in my be hard. We walked in at 7:15 or so and there was a high top for two. The very nice young man who seated us pointed out two other tables were leaving soon and he'd gladly move us once they did. His brother Tyler was a waiter. This young man knows one speed...attentive. He and his fellow staff never stopped moving and he was incredibly friendly. He got everything just right and mad recommended selections when asked. The food? Perfect. Tyler knew when to bring things out and each was something slightly unique you won't find in every other place you go to. The decor is very cool, and I would say the music is a little loud, but I am old. I highly recommend Chef's Bistro in North Conway. Two big apps, a drink, an entree and a big charcuterie board...$84.
