I'll second the review that says 3 stars isn't a bad rating - it's average. I'd describe Cheddar's as a mix of Houlihan's and Applebees as they offer typical American fare with some ethnic inspirations. Food was good for being the end of the night, though nothing special IMO. The sweet chicken chili with ginger rice was light and flavorful. Man ordered chicken fried steak but it came out as chicken. Oh well, they were out of steak and we wanted to get back on the road ASAP. Other service blunders included forgetting the salad that came with the chili chicken, and the mac 'n cheese was served with the black, burnt, bottom of the pan skin (plus bonus random broccoli). I will say we came in close to closing time on a Sunday so I could understand everyone is tired. Also supporting a previous reviewer, it seemed to taje an above average wait to get our food after ordering. This place is probably used to people hanging around here more than anything. read more

Great place for dinner. My wife and I enjoy eating at non-chain restaurants when on vacation and this is one of the very good ones. The service was great and the food was very good as well. My wife had the sirloin, I had the Alfredo pasta, both had salads, and our bill was only $27. The croissants were amazing. I would highly recommend Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen. Let me start by saying I'm not a big chain fan at all. But. This is an exception. This is my third time in different states. Great value in all. I could have easily justified spending $20-$30 for this grilled pork chop with bourbon glaze. Omg was it good. For a chain? $10?????? Damn we need one of these places by us. Came in on a Saturday night with my sister and girlfriends. We sat at the bar and had drinks and apps...my bill was only $11 so I put $15 cash in the ramekin, as we stood up I noticed I never received my change. Our waitress was behind the bar so I asked if she had returned my change and her snotty reply was she assumed I left it as a tip. My reply to her was for future courtesy, she should return the change and let the consumer decide in the tip amount. Again, snotty with a smile then said "Ahuh bye bye now!" I have ate here a couple times, the food is usually good. The only downside is how busy this place gets on the weekends, which can build up a pretty decent wait time for you and your guests. I've had waits of 5-40 minutes to get in, either way the service is still great and never slow. This is a good place to swing by and grab something to eat or have a couple of drinks. read more

I walked into cheddars at 5:15 PM on August 7. Seating was open because there was not that many people in the restaurant at the time. I sat in a booth in the bar area and there was only five other patrons in there and they were all eating already. Servers and workers walked by me four times over the course of five minutes before someone asking if I had been waited on. It was a busboy that actually gave me a menu and silverware. I waited another five minutes before a server came to me and asked me if I was ready to order. I am formed the server that I had waited long enough and that a table with a party of six was seated and waited on before I was ever even asked. And that party came in after I did. The young man promptly apologize but at that point I already made up my mind that I was going to leave once I found out how long it actually took for somebody to wait on me. I am giving a review what it deserves. The review is a very bad review. I would like to hope that they will fix this type of thing in the future. I chose not to go to the manager. I hope the young man did go to the manager on his own to make certain this did not happen to somebody else. read more

We were greeted after about 5 minutes of sitting down. I told the waiter right away that I had a Togo order that I would need towards the end of our meal. My mom ordered potato soup and I got a desert. He brought the wrong desert and the to go order out about 25 minutes later. We told them it was the wrong desert and it was for here. About 5 minutes go by and he brings out the correct desert. And THEN another few minutes go by and he brings my mom the wrong soup.. we finally get everything brought out. I, being a server myself, felt it necessary to tell a manager about our experience and he listened attentively but didn't have much to say afterwards. We got the bill as normal. Had lunch here with a bunch of my co-workers last week. We had a reservation and were seated very quickly. I had the Cheeseburger and fries. The burger was huge and the fries were excellent. A lot of my coworkers had salads and I had one of the rolls which was very good. I like that the price point to most of the menu items is less than $10. I had not been to Cheddars in some time since there are none in the Rutland area, but she nce I am now in Terre Haute, I was excited to go. For those of you who are new to Cheddar's, they are POPULAR! Do expect to wait for a table if you are wanting to dine during peak hours. The last time I dined at Cheddar's was in the Air Capital. The menu has a new format, but the food hasn't changed. My favorite is the broccoli casserole side dish. No matter what I order, BC is on the side. All entrées are great. So this is my first check in but I have been here a few times. I am always here for work, and live away so am alone normally. I like the food but it's not over the top. Since I am not a local I did want to comment on the service I get and it's been really great. The last few times I have had Brianna as a server/bartender. She seems to out do her number of drinks by 5 to 1 to her Co-bartender Patrick. Thank goodness I got her for my bartender. I would recommend this place for food but it's not over the top. My experience here was great! I got the BBQ ribs and they were fall off the bone delicious. Our waiter checked on us often and the place was really clean. The building is beautiful! The decor was so so nice. We went during lunch rush and only had to wait 10 minutes for a party of 4. Best thing about my experience here was the bill, I got chicken and ribs $15.00. I've been here twice. I actually gave it a second shot after a kinda bad experience the first time. First time I came right after it opened. Of course I expect problems with a new restaurant, which was doomed to be packed due to the migration of the hautians from new restaurant to new restaurant. However, I hate restaurants like this. Of course screaming children running everywhere, usual family American restaurant crap. I do not blame the restaurants, I just make sure to include it in my review for others that choose to avoid places like this. My wife's chicken (which was supposed to be boneless) had a small bone in it, and it kinda cut her mouth on the inside. I set it on a side plate and gave it to the server to bring to the attention of the kitchen. Of course manager comes out and offers to comp my meal, which I decline to accept. I argued with him and refused to pay the bill until he put it back on. I do not accept free meals for mistakes, they happen. Making it right by me means taking a closer look at your quality of suppliers and such, and fixing the problem. So he did right by me. Not a bad experience, the food was okay and it was decent priced, but if I knew if I went back I wouldn't go unless I could sit in the bar, I hate the parents who can't control their screaming children. Now, fast forward to second experience. Sat at the bar on a Friday night. They were about half full back there and it took about 20 minutes to get a beer. I was very frustrated with this and when the server finally brought the beer I asked her to go ahead and bring another round; which of course I had finished my beer and still had to wait (and I am a very slow drinker). Finally, I had some paper gift certificates I had bought at a charity auction and I went to use them to pay for the drinks and appetizers and I was told they can't be used for alcohol. There was no disclaimer on the gift certificate saying anything to the contrary and even management was firm on that. To me, that was the final straw. I won't be back. However, that being said, if you are wanting decent food for an good price and don't mind crappy service and screaming children, then stop putting on your crocks and sweat pants and going to Applebee's and give this place a shot! read more

We waited 45 minutes for a single appetizer. We received no refills during our wait. The tables around us were constantly tended and their orders brought out quickly. When we finally managed to find our waiter we asked about our order and he had no idea why our food wasn't already served. We were expecting a long wait because of how full the parking lot was, but we were able to be seated in a booth in the bar area right away. The food was great - we ordered the steak and ribs. So the service is good but I got my order it's Luke warm. Very disappointing. I had to send it back. Which is unfortunate. I have not been here since just before Thanksgiving when almost every meal at our table of four was not correct. So they brought it out now it's steaming. But my guess is they nuked it. The manger came over I told him. I showed him it was original plate and was gone only a few minutes. So my meal is being completely redone and on management. Which then changed this whole review and brought up the star rating. I have to commend a manager who will admit to mistakes and correct them without arguments.
