Southwest Chicken & Avocado Salad
Steven C.

Food: This time I ordered the Southwest Chicken and Avocado salad. I give this place a solid 3.8 only because they always forget something with the order or get the order incorrect. There's usually 4 people at the cash register so I'm confused why the pick up order is always missing something from a bag of chips to a simple pickle on the side. I do enjoy the food though so I would have made this a 4 if they could at least get the order correct. Ambiance: Clean on the outside and inside. Friendly staff and welcoming environment. Parking: Plenty of shopping center parking at all hours of business operations. I haven't seen the parking lot full enough that made it difficult to find a spot to park.

A terribly small "1/2" sandwich and chili cup completed a "pick two" combo.
Michael S.

Post-Covid inflation really took a bite from my wallet while delivering the smallest portions I could imagine. Somehow my 'pick two' sandwich and soup combo at $7.99 plus a drink ballooned to over $13. On the receipt tax was, naturally, added but the oversized cola was nearly $4! The 1/2 sandwich appeared to be closer to 1/4 size. The chili portion was acceptable but far from generous. No charge for the pickle spear. Friendly service only added to the feeling of having been robbed with a smile.

What's not good about McAlister's? Great service, friendly staff and tasty food! It's a rainy day so of course we had to get some type of soup to warm us up, perfect choice!

Extremely clean store with friendly staff. The atmosphere is perfectly matched with the good they serve. The only problem I did have is the soup. It was like warm and I was barely given a cup. Overall 4/5.

Like all new restaurants that open in Terre Haute, there is a certain amount of overwhelming fan fare from being the lead story on the local news to non-stop lines for the first few weeks. So with this in mind, the experience for me and my folks at the new McAlister's Deli in Terre Haute was ordered off my cell phone and a to-go order to avoid the crowds and chaos as much as possible. So with this in mind, the McAlister's Deli website and on-line ordering system is super easy to navigate, easy to make changes/additions to menu items and very efficient all from the palm of my hand on my I-Phone. You place your order, pay, you select a time for pick up and BOOM...easy, quick, food to go. When I hustled through the restaurant and saddled up to the left side of the ordering counter in the "To Go" area in anticipation of giving my name and picking up my order, I was greeted by a nice employee who indicated that as long as there were not drinks in the order I placed on-line, I just needed to walk around the counter to the left, find my order in its bag, grab and go. The honor system here is in full swing. As I was only seeking to hustle in, hustle out and avoid the crowds, I can confirm that they are busy. The grey, wood, white, pops of orange, yellow green branding make the restaurant seem inviting and welcoming. You order you food at the counter and then have a seat (no direct table service). And for take out food and having never eaten at a McAlister's before, I would say our experience was better than average for a place that is not quite fast food, but not entirely a table service situation either. The salad was fresh & good sized, the baked potato was hot, a good spud and also a good size for a smaller spud that came with my half sandwich, the French dip was a bit overcooked according to my mom but pretty decent for a take-away $10 sandwich. Again, we changed out cheeses, added veggies and eliminated sauces with great ease on-line when we placed the order. So for a new establishment with all the pressure of the local community bearing down on anticipation of it being a new eatery, I would give them 4 stars. It is chain, but for this town, it would not matter. We had a good experience and would go again and maybe even sit down inside, once the fan fair and excitement is a fews months past.

We love grabbing a quick lunch at this McAlisters and sitting on their patio. I got the choose 2 with the pecan berry salad and the smoky pepper jack Turkey sandwich. The salad is a huge portion for only being half & the dressing is my favorite! Service was a little slow, but it was a busy lunch rush.

Garden Turkey
Nita L.

Update: I felt something hard when I was chewing the garden turkey sandwich. And I found it's the "belly button" of the avocado, as shown in the attached picture, which is ridiculous. ------------ Original: Went there three times and they made mistakes on each order :(. Ordered Garden Turkey twice and they missed my avocado EVERY TIME!! My advice is to check your sandwich before you leave if you have a to go order.

I was intrigued by Oy Vey from the very start. I'd never been to a Jewish restaurant before, and…read morewanted to see what flavors I could discover. After eating here, I realized that I had completely underestimated this particular cuisine. The title of this restaurant may be alarming at first, but believe me, "oy vey" will be the last thing you say after tasting these delicious dishes. My family and I got two Reubens, Chicken and Rice soup, Borscht soup, Chicken Shawarma, South African Sweet Potato stew, baklava, and latkes all for about 59 bucks. And pretty much everything was homemade. Because of the great quality and quantity of all these items, I ended up stuffed and satisfied. We start off with their Reuben. I had heard much about this dish from other reviews, and it definitely did not disappoint. The corned beef was well-seasoned, and the sauerkraut was tangy and fresh. The Chicken and Rice soup was good, but could have used a little bit more seasoning. This is compared to the other items, though, so the expectation might have been set too high for this soup. Unlike the Chicken and Rice soup, the Borscht soup was firing up my taste buds with its deep tangy flavor. This dish is vegan, but Oy Vey definitely didn't compromise the flavor due to that classification. And along with the soup came a few pieces of a homemade flatbread that was soft and delicious as well. The Chicken Shawarma was pretty good. Again, the flavor was just a little lacking when compared to some of the other dishes. None of this is enough to take away from my 5-star rating, though. These are just little things that I think could be improved upon. I had the South African sweet potato stew as a side to my Reuben, and wow, was it good. The sweet potato blended perfectly with the mix of spices. This may have been the most flavorful stew I have ever eaten. Now, before I talk about this baklava, I ask you to erase anything you seemingly already know about Greek honey baklava from your mind, because that's not what this is. This baklava was entirely different, and even more scrumptious, in my opinion. Instead of your classic honey topping, this baklava was smothered in a cinnamon sauce. Like I said, a completely different experience, but one that was great in its own way. Last, but definitely not least, we have the latkes. These small, round potato pancakes were also different from the latkes I knew. And again, they were just as good, if not better. They sort of reminded me of fried mashed potatoes. There was also a side of applesauce that came with the order for dipping. The applesauce was also delicious. All in all, our experience at Oy Vey was delectable and filling. Though improvements could be made on some select items, Oy Vey really brings the flavor! So the next time you're in or around Terra Haute, stop by. Your taste buds will be very glad you did!

I have really debated how many stars they should get. On…read moreone hand, the food was really good! My daughter and I both got the Chicken Gyro (that's not its full name, but that's what I remember). That was our plan B bc they were out of corned beef. It was awesome and so huge that we had to use a fork and knife to eat it. The Parmesan fries with curry was also very good. We got there during an off time. There were 6 ppl dining when we came in. It took probably 10-15 minutes before we got to order. We were there for 30 minutes before we got our drinks. I had to go out to the car to get the drinks we had in there bc we got thirsty. I also don't think they change table cloths between customers. Once the other people left, tables were cleared but crumbs remained. When I came back from the car, there was an insect crawling on our table. I won't say the R word, but I'm pretty sure it was a baby R. I pointed it out & worker squished it in her fingers and tried to save face by saying it was a spider (definitely wasn't a spider) or an aphid (most definitely not an aphid). I hate giving bad reviews, especially to small businesses, and they probably don't deserve the 3 stars, but the food was delicious when we finally got it ... just tried not thinking about the critter. Not having a restroom wasn't great either. We do prefer to wash our hands before we eat, as one should. We went out to our car to use our hand sanitizer. After other customers left, I also started to play my own music at the table. They obviously had kids in the back and had a children's show fairly loud, which was just kind of annoying. That may be nitpicking, but dining in was just not a good experience all around... besides the food. Sorry

I'm not a sandwich person, but my 16 year old is, and I wanted something I could eat to-go. You can smell the scent of yummy as you walked into the door. It appears to be a gourmet grocery store, specializing in sushi grade seafood, pasta from Italy, fancy cheeses, meats, caviar, and sodas from around the country. They had diet Cheerwine, even. I've never seen so many different root beers in one place- there was even a pumpkin root beer! There wasn't a BLT on the menu, but they custom made one for my son, and he added pesto and provolone. He declared it the best BLT ever, and knocked his favorite sandwich place back home to second place. I had the Thanksgiving everyday. A $16 buck sandwich, I was skeptical it wasn't going to live up to its price point. However, it was worth every cent. It was turkey, goat cheese, and homemade cranberry sauce on sourdough, and grilled panini style on a press. The turkey was sliced fresh- everything was made fresh. The taste was absolutely amazing. I live in California, but hate most sourdough bread, because that tang tastes spoiled. You don't have that weird taste with Cheese and Crackers sourdough bread- it's just delicious toasted buttered bread. It was the right texture and made it crunch. The crew appeared very hardworking and enjoyed their jobs. We were greeted kindly, and felt welcome. I use a walker, and was able to navigate the store, but note the space is kinda small. Since I don't live here, I'm going to do my best to recreate my sandwich at home. They were a bit busy but it didn't seem like a huge crowd today. We sat outside again. I knew what I wanted immediately, and placed our order as soon as our waitress came over to greet us. A cheeseburger for the kid, and a pulled pork sandwich for me. I've never had theirs before. And I never will again. And fries. We got fries. The wait was insane. At least a half hour for very simple dishes. The kid got a tiny burger. Beef and bun. No cheese, no ketchup. I had to ask for cheese. Yes. They messed up a cheese burger. Then there was my pulled pork. It was literally inedible. I've since come to learn that it was not reheated properly, so the goo that covered every bit of meat was fat. It was served cold, for some reason, and the way it was presented on the menu, listed under a picture of some yummy browned wings led me to believe it would be a very different - and HOT- sandwich. The server did offer to take it back, but at that point the meal was ruined for me and I didn't trust them to make anything else, or make it quickly. I made it clear I was very unhappy about such a disgusting sandwich. She took all of 10% off my bill.
