We just moved to IN a couple months ago, every time we would drive by Cheddars we would say we have to go there because we have a cat named Cheddar. It was a very hard move from Utah with our 16 rescue cats and we had finally hit a point in settling that we wanted to go on our first date night in IN. We went to see Bullet Train movie and chose Cheddars for dinner. The movie was so Unbelievably good, I was in a phenomenal mood and then we got to Cheddars. Got seated and Kaitlyn was our server. We ordered, the salad was good. Our food came I had ordered my steak medium well, and it came almost raw inside. I let Kaitlyn know and she took my plate back, meanwhile my husband had the New Orleans pasta. He was eating as we were playing a trivia game on the kiosk on our table and as we talked about how much we love IN and how nice people are. Didn't realize how much time had gone by (we got there at 6pm and it was now 7pm) my husband was just about done with his food and Kaitlyn brings me a small plate with a steak on it, I said where is my potato and ribs? She said they are remaking them. By then I was so angry and upset after walking into Cheddars in a phenomenal mood from seeing a great movie I said I don't want it, I am not going to sit here and eat after my husband was done eating. She looked at me like she went out of her way and I didn't appreciate it. She took the plate, came back with the check and put it on the table. Never once apologized for my dinner being ruined. My dinner was removed from the bill, we paid and walked towards the door. I don't know where I saw it as I was walking that everyone gets free Croissants everytime which was hysterical and rubbing salt in the wound because we didn't get any. When we got to the door I asked to talk to a Manager, a young gentleman came over and said how can I help you. I explained what happened, he apologized and said he would address it. We left and when we got home it hit me, how was he going to address it when he didn't know where we sat or who our server was. We were so disappointed because my husband's food was good, but with service like that we wont be coming back. read more

In a single word: AMAZING! My husband and I were seated immediately by a very friendly hostess. The atmosphere was also notable immediately after walking through the door, very warm with a nice holiday feel; and the facility was super clean to boot. We placed our order and received it in under ten minutes despite the lunch rush. The food was impeccable, hearty, rich, and very fresh. One of my favorite chain restaurants in town. The food tastes great and it's so reasonably priced. Service is hit or miss (depending on how busy they are). Today we had a good server who helped us and gave me plenty of lemons when I asked! If they bring you the wrong side, they are so good at bringing you the correct one. Almost all of the seating is booth, which I love! Also enjoy the fish tank and atmosphere, it's warm and inviting. I've never gotten anything I haven't liked. Good deals on seafood and fish. I like how their mashed potatoes have the skin in it as well. Will always recommend for a casual dining place with good food. read more

I was in town because my dad was dying. I left his bedside to pick up food from Chedder's with my children, sister and aunt. We were in desperate need of some kindness. We decided to eat the food in the car because we had to go back and needed a break. The gentleman who brought out our food had no clue the kind of day we were having. When he came back to our car to give us back our card he must have noticed we were eating in our car because he asked if we needed anything. He brought us drinks and fresh croissants and some much needed kindness. Thank you to the manager with no name tag that we could see. I'd understand if it wasn't available at that location but that wasn't the case at all. He apparently told the manager that he refused to make the dinner unless we got it to go. What is the difference exactly? Our waitress was great and she had to play messenger, which I honestly felt bad for her having to do, but he ruined the entire dining experience. We visited on Black Friday and expected a long wait, but were seated right away and got our food within 10-15mins - probably the fated service I've ever had at a steakhouse type restaurant. We ordered the onion ring appetizer that came with an entire mound of huge rings for only $4.99. My partner and I both ordered steak dinners that were amazing. Our bill only came to $40. The server was well mannered and very chatty. We will definitely be back to try more things from the extensive menu! read more

Poor customer service! We had a large group but informed the hostess that we were willing to split up. As we waited, we watched large groups leave and watched other families that arrived after us be seated. We checked back in twice to inquire and were told that they were only going to seat us together so we'd have to wait until the other families at the tables they had designated as ours to leave. The hostesses were not friendly, would not agree to sit us in smaller groups. They wanted to put our large group with only one wait staff which after our hour long wait would have made service slow as well. Word to the wise, if you have a large group - don't sign in as one unless you don't mind waiting a ridiculous amount of time and being treated rudely by the hostess. read more

The chicken used to be good but now they have a different machine to "grill" the chicken that just does not do the meat justice. All it does is make the cooks life easier (all for that) but at the end of the day, when my chicken is coming out to me rubbery and tough, the new method just is not working. I know I'm not the only one as well because I told my server and she said that people keep saying the same thing but one of the managers really just doesn't believe the customers so I really don't see anything changing and he wasn't in when I was there so I could tell him he's wrong to his face. Yep. It's a corporate "chain" restaurant, but I did enjoy my dinner here. I had just finished a long day at work, so I was tired and a bit "hangry." I sat at the bar, and was greeted right away. The bartender (I'm sorry, I forgot her name) was friendly and patient with me as I reviewed the menu. I ordered chips & queso dip as an appetizer, and I had to wait a few minutes for it, but she explained that they were making a new batch. It was worth the few extra minutes, no problem. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken wrap, and it was exactly as expected. Very good. The portion size was much larger than I expected, so now I have some good leftovers. I visit this restaurant every time I am in the area which is often. I order the same meal each time because it has always been great food. This past week I stopped in for lunch and ordered the "usual", but to my surprise Cheddar's had changed the fries and the cole slaw. Both were disgusting . The chicken was good but I suspect the sides have changed for a cheaper supplier. Ironically the price had not changed for the lack of quality. Management or corporate need to leave quality alone. The race for more money in the restaurant business will eventually lead to failure. Yelpsters please let me know if they fix it as I will not be back until they do. Don't come here!!!! So started with getting one of our apps before we got any drinks. Then the second app was ordered twice and finally showed up and I am sure our food was done before the app but they held it back and my ribs were dried out. Then we wanted the chelate cake but they were out. I was at Cheddar's twice over the past two weeks at the request of my relatives who still live in Terre Haute mostly because it's relatively cheap and the servings are plentiful. On my first visit, the appetizer, then my salad, then our entrees pretty much all came out within a 4-minute time span. The server didn't exactly hover, but we felt rushed to order and he was very quick-paced (dropping check without seeing if we wanted dessert or anything else). I know for next time that I need to speak up and say that we plan to dine slowly and take our time. The second visit was better paced, but the server was the epitome of ANNOYING. She made so much random conversation about NOTHING that it was just irksome. Why would she think any of us cared what diet and nutrition tips she gave an overweight colleague of hers? I found it very discomforting that she would come to our table and talk about other staff members being overweight. If she just would have not talked, the service would have been awesome - she was knowledgeable about the menu, made great suggestions, brought extra sauces without us asking, and automatically brought to-go drinks at the end of our meal. I guess you can't have it all... Overall, not horrible experiences, but I won't be in any huge rush to go back next time I'm visiting Terre Haute. read more

In light of the other reviews, I do find it necessary to note that at the time I am writing this, this Cheddar's location has been open for literally 2 weeks. There is a mish-mash of new, local workers and the more seasoned corporate team. It will be a totally different place in 2 months' time. Terre Haute continues to be chain food hell, but it's nice to occasionally get a new option, at least. We had no issues with our visit. We have been to other locations and the experience was essentially the same (although our servers were over-the-top fantastic in Clearwater). There was about a 10 minute wait to get a table, which was accurately quoted to us. Our orders were taken quickly. I ordered chicken tortilla soup and a pasta dish and my boyfriend had a burger. The soup came quickly and while I love chicken tortilla soup, this rendition is not my favorite - too chunky, with very little chicken. I've had the pasta before at other locations and it was consistent. The burger and fries were fine as well. Portions are huge, as usual, and everything was timely. The only downsides we experienced were all owed to the newness of the place. SUPER crowded, both with patrons and workers, which made it very loud inside and also difficult to navigate. The walkways seem very narrow what with all the traffic. But I do expect in 2 months' time this location will be consistent with the rest, and we will surely be back when the crowd dies down. read more

Cheddar's is a big box restaurant that doesn't necessarily feel like one. I can't say it's any better or worse than an Applebee's or TGI Fridays, but it is different in its own special way. Like most of its suburbia peers it offers a wide variety of Americana in regards to food and beverages. If there is a particular food that you like that isn't considered in the "ethnic food" category, odds are that Cheddar's will have it and they came serve it the way you like. I myself like their Chicken Finger/Strips. I just like the type and amount of breeding. I'm also a huge fan of their steamed veggies as they don't over cook them like so many others do. I'm giving Cheddar's 3 stars because it is good food, but it isn't anything special. We go to Cheddar's when everyone wants food, but no one knows what they want. I do like them better than the other chain restaurants that I named before, but I cannot honestly say that I've ever woken up and really wanted Cheddar's. Please don't view this as a bad review, because it totally isn't meant to be one. Cheddar's is a good place to eat, and I do always have a pleasant experience. I'm not sure how Cheddar's gets away with slow service where the servers are inattentive and constantly apologize about things. Just try your best to do things right the first time... From the moment we sat down to our meal on a Monday evening (party of 4), service moved at a snail's pace. This is the only restaurant where I've seen multiple servers running around, no one server waits on the tables surrounding yours, and yet it really seems like there's only one server waiting on the entire room of customers because YOUR server disappears between the time they take your order and bring your check. The food itself is nothing spectacular, but anything fried is hard to complain about. That must be why people keep coming back. Their fried food is hard to not like. It just would be nice to have an enjoyable experience for the money you're spending. read more

I don't really know what was more entertaining - the overblown decor and size of the place, or the comedy of errors that the servers made. My friend walks with a cane due to a hip injury, and we requested a table or booth near the entrance, and offered to wait. First time visit, keep in mind. We were then led, after about 10 minutes (OK, it was busy) all the way to the "back 40", to the point that we had no idea where we'd even come in! Of course, the restroom was on the OTHER end of the place, too, and quite a hike. Never mind the tight aisles, the crowd, and dodging servers. Then I couldn't find my way back to the table. The floor plan is really strange. It took a bit to get drinks and menus, but that was understandable. It was packed. Someone had mopped and left the floor wet, which is dangerous for someone with a bad hip, after all. The diner two tables back from us wasn't so lucky - he went sliding by, doing some kind of "dance," panicked screaming, before he crashed into the back door and stopped. I asked if this was the "floor show." The staff didn't find it funny. Then two other employees who were cleaning tables dropped a ketchup bottle, glass, which exploded and showered everyone in the section. She just laughed, and said it was the third or fourth one she'd busted that day. Then they left without cleaning it up! Our food arrived at an OK time, and the ketchup mess was not cleaned up. Another party came in, and complained about broken glass on the floor, on the seats, and ketchup splatters. Our first drink refill nearly ended up in my lap, and I politely requested that she not come back, thank you. The table behind us, with some small children, was still waiting, and then got the wrong food orders. The food was overpriced, salty, and overall, inedible. Fries were undercooked, and I don't even know what the other side was supposed to be. The soup was more like kindergarten art class paste. Then, on the way out, my friend was literally grabbed and hugged by an employee, who was quite taken with her blouse and wanted to know all about it. Justin was our server and he was awesome, I work in service industry in Chicago so I can tell when a server knows what they are doing and Justin is fantastic. Good: Chicken tender basket buffalo style, chips-n-salsa, tortilla soup, blackened salmon, fish tacos, black beans, raspberry lemonade, strawberry lemonade, and service.
