That's their loss because we've declared the Dun Bar our new Sunday lunch spot when we're in town. Thelma was our server and she was just delightful. This is probably the most hole in the wall place I've ever given full stars. Don't get me wrong, I love a hole in the wall, but sometimes the food in a hole in the wall is a little boring. Like this food, it was so simple, chicken fried steaks, grilled chicken breast, a Thanksgiving lunch on Sundays, side salads, humble sides... but it's all so absolutely ridiculously GOOD. We started with the large plate of onion rings (which is $7.50, btw, you won't find that anywhere else) and my sister lost her mind about them. lol For our entrees we had two chicken fried steak plates (different sides) and a grilled chicken plate. The gravy is served on the side, family style, and it was probably one of the best gravys I've ever had. It's not just flour and water, it tasted more complex like it had broth in it as well. Somehow with the modest price of these very flavorful dishes, they still give you free dessert. Very generous. I typically hate carrot cake, but this cake was moist and really good. It was almost like a spice cake, very well done. Do not sleep on this place. The surroundings are run down, the motel behind it has seen better days, but the food is legit and the kindness can't be beat. If you go on a Sunday, ask for Thelma and tell her the girls from Fort Worth say hi.

They also have a full menu, but this special sounds good. My wife and I arrived around 5pm and not many here. Sat in a booth and our server, ---, came over with some menus. My wife decided on the Chef's Salad with Italian Dressing, and I'm going with their Turkey Dinner. They don't list the ingredients of the Chef's Salad, but they do for the Turkey Dinner. Unfortunately, it's not on the website. You know what's in a Chef's Salad, and the Turkey Dinner is what you normally have on Thanksgiving. At Dun Bar, it doesn't take long to have your order served. In just a couple of minutes, it's on your table. My Wife's Chef's Salad is served in a huge bowl with a lot of wedged tomatoes covering everything. My Turkey Dinner is one big pile of turkey dinner stuff. Container of Cranberries (looks more like cranberry paste). This was pretty good. Green Beans, nice flavor, and a lot. Scoop of Mashed Potatoes, didn't think much of this, and I love mashed potatoes. A large pile of Dressing atop some shredded turkey, and not much shredded turkey, with no flavor. Expected sliced turkey. Gravy was atop the dressing with very little flavor. Loved the sweet taste of the Fruit Salad. Best part of the whole dinner. We were asked if we wanted a basket of rolls, and we said no. My wife said her Chef's Salad was okay. I agree, I ate a lot of this and it was okay. There is enough in this bowl to serve two people with leftovers. You get a lot of food here, but in my case, it was tasteless, bland, and very disappointing in the quality and amount of food. The Turkey Dinner Special also comes with dessert. This was Chocolate Walnut Cake, and it was chocolaty, creamyliciousness. The last time we were here was some time back, and I had the Fried Chicken. My wife had the same then as now, the Chef's Salad, and it looked the same then as it did this time - a lot. The Fried Chicken was really good. Anyway, --- earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for being sweet.

The first thing I noticed was how dirty some things were, like the mini split system that heats and cools the place, absolutely filthy! As I watched the swinging door leading to the back food prep area swing open it was just as filthy behind the scenes. The dining area was pretty clean as far as the eye could see, however, under a UV black light flashlight with a 365nm the flat surfaces might show different. Anyway, I must say our breakfast choices were very good, well prepared and served hot and the staff were all very friendly. It reminds me of the diners back in the 50's even tho I wasn't around back then. Would I go back, hmm, probably would because at least I can see the uncleanliness here is all fully on display unlike other restaurants that you can see the back rooms.

GLUTEN FREE REVIEW:…read more Don't be fooled by the beauty and elegance of this place! I had a reaction to gluten in the first 10 minutes of being in this establishment. As of 01 October 2026, the menu online is their current menu, you will notice it is small but refined with multiple items marked gluten free. Do not succumb to the ignorance of trusting a gluten free marked item like I did. When I arrived at the restaurant with my friends the owner came to our table and greeted us, which I thought was very nice until he started speaking. He spoke at me for about 10 minutes about how people who are gluten free can actually eat flour outside of the US because they only have a problem with the processed flour, and how he uses "pure grain flour". (This is a common misconception, but a misconception nonetheless). When he finally allowed me to interject in between his ramblings, I informed him that I am celiac, meaning I cannot ingest flour at all no matter the processing it undergoes. I even told him how I have been to France and was unable to eat flour items there. I further express my concerns with the menu items containing ANY wheat ingredients. He assured me that "100% you can have the Pomme Frites and Pork Belly", these are the gluten free marked items. He said I couldn't have the fried calamari cause it was breaded in panko, but the lamb entree I wanted had homemade sauce so it was good too. I was not reassured after he left, telling my friends as much, but I decided to trust him. A fatal flaw I'll soon come to know. Ultimately, I ordered the pomme frites and poke belly appetizers for the table. I tried to order the lamb but clarified with the server that there wasn't flour in the sauce, after asking he noted there WAS flour in the sauce! (Like WTF! The owner just told me I could have it.) I ended up ordering the smoked salmon. When the appetizers arrived I started eating the Pork Belly, IT WAS INCREDIBLE!! Perfectly crispy, perfectly sweet, and perfectly tender. I hesitated eating the fries, as I didn't clarify the fryer situation. When the server came back (who also was told of my allergy multiple times by multiple people at my table) I asked him about the frier, he told me there was only ONE FRYER! MEANING IT WAS FRIED WITH THE CALAMARI!! At this point I have only drank water and ate about one 4inx2in piece of Pork Belly, when I start to feel an invisible force lodged in my throat and the unmistakable, catastrophe realization that I had royally fucked up. The next person the come to the table was the bartender, after asking, she informs me that the Pork Belly is not pan fried like I thought but it is ALSO FRIED IN THE FUCKING FRYER!! I then spent the next 10 minutes crying and throwing up in their bathroom. The owner did make another appearance after hearing my throwing up in the bathroom, apologizing and comping my meal. He even offered to box up my entree, I informed him that that wasn't necessary as I will not be eating anything else from here. (&Honestly comping my meal is a huge pet peeve of mine because that's the least you can fucking do after poisoning me, but I digress.) Actually, I've never digressed a day in my life. Cause this was actually ridiculous. The significant misguided knowledge on gluten free safety and obvious lack of care for your patrons health was jarring. I've been gluten free for the better part of 6 years and I fear I only have myself to blame for choosing to eat at this location even after all the red flags. So this is your warning, if you're celiac. STEER CLEAR! Or you'll be at high risk of ending up like me, not a skinny bitch like I deserve but the size of a beached beluga whale after a week in 110 degree days, the stomach cramping, and the bodily evictions to last a lifetime. Arrived at Jason's, and there was a line more than halfway to the door. This might take a while because I noticed only one person taking orders. Before you know it, I was next to order. Then I saw a hand wave above the cash register, motioning me to come over. That's when I noticed they have three areas open to take orders, and two of them are, let's say, not very tall people. Their heads were lower than the cash registers. You could not see them, but that line disappeared really quickly. Anyway, I placed my order, 100% Whole Grain Wheat Bread Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Soup, and a Diet Dr Pepper drink. The lady replied back my order and asked what kind of soup, Tomato Basil or Bla,Bla,Ble,Ble,Blaw. I asked her to repeat that, and she said, Tomato Basil or Bla,Bla,Ble,Ble,Blaw. I said, I'm sorry, could you repeat the last part. She said, Bla,Bla,Ble,Ble,Blaw. I then said, Tomato Basil Soup will be fine. For the life of me, I could not understand what kind of soup Bla,Bla,Ble,Ble,Blaw was, and I don't know if that sounded good or not. But I do know Tomato Basil Soup is a good soup. FYI, the 100% Whole Grain Wheat Bread has two-slices of Cheddar Cheese and one-slice (in the center) of Muenster Cheese. That really sounds gooeygoodness to me. I grabbed my cup and number, filled my cup with Diet Dr Pepper (the Texas Coke), and located a table. This place is really busy with only a couple tables open. When one table is available, their Table-Cleaner is right there preparing it for the next customer. That is Service at its Best. Nicely done Jason. In a couple of minutes, my order arrived, and the Tomato Basil Soup was served in a Kettle Bowl style with Chunks of Tomato throughout and melted Chedder Cheese on top. This 100% Whole Grain Wheat Bread is one-tiny-slice, but nicely toasted. Peeked inside for the cheese, and it's only a small dab of yellow and white. This is not a "Brylcreem Commercial" where a 'Little Dab Will Do Ya', it's a Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and I'm looking for the Cheese. I do not see how this could be three-slices, which doesn't even go to the edge of the toast. The Tomato Basil Soup is absolutely Delicious and Flavorful, and loving those chunks of tomatoes. Love That Soup. The 100% Whole Grain Wheat Bread is toasted perfectly and has the perfect crunch in every bite. Once in a while, you could actually taste a little cheese, but not often. "TAKING MY BABY OUT"…read more Today is "National Hot Dog Day," and it falls on a Wednesday. Guess who has a Special on Wednesdays for Hot Dogs? Yep, it's "Wienerschnitzel". In fact, every Wednesday of every month (so far), they offer "4-Chili-Dogs-for-4-Bucks". That's where I am taking my Lovely Wife out for dinner, and it's my treat. I do that at times, and it's usually on a Wednesday. Anyway, our dinner time came around. I diced up some White Onions, and my Wife grabbed some Coke Zeros for us. Off we went, in the rain, to Wienerschnitzel. As always, there is a line, but it moves pretty fast. This place gets really busy every day, especially on Wednesdays. Placed our order, received our bag of Chili Dogs, and found a place to park. Unwrapped those Steamy-Hot-Chili-Dogs. Three for me and one for my Wife. (that's all she needs). Sprinkled on some diced White Onions on my three and began a feast of Chilidogliciousness. Love the taste, and the white onions add even more flavor to each Chili Dog. We enjoyed them all. All three were very warm until the last bite. Sometimes I bring shredded cheese to top off the Chili Dogs, but I found that only one topping is enough due to them being eaten in the car - and it does get a little messy. After all were gone, there was a little drooling. They are individually wrapped, and there is a little chili left on the paper, and I'm thinking I could lick that off. That's how good these Chili Dogs are. We are done, and both of us are very happy our tummy's are filled. 4/8/26 my first time ever to a Wienerschnitzel being a new resident to Texas. It was getting to be…read morelunch time so we decided what the heck let's give it a try. My husband had been before here back in his college days and wasn't too fond of it. I opted for the 2 hotdog meal with mustard, relish and diced onions w/fries and he the deluxe burger w/fries. He LOVED his burger and quickly changed his opinion on this place from when he was here 30+ yrs ago. My dogs were good, nothing special or fantastic to write home about but now I can cross this place off my bucket list. They have a good variety of choices to pick from and the prices are reasonable. The drive thru service was friendly and fairly quick and the kitchen area looked clean from the drivers seat view. There is a small outside dining area should you choose to do so. Probably will come back but it's not on the high priority list.
