I loved Cheddars that I went to in Alabama and was eager to try this new location. However, a nearly 2 hour wait for food makes me wonder whether this location is worth ever returning to again. This did not reflect a problem of a generally slow kitchen because they just opened but a complete lack of and understanding of the restaurant industry and how to treat customers.
My colleague and I stopped in for what we thought would be a quick bite to eat. We especially thought it would be a quick trip because there was no wait to sit. However, from the moment we sat down, the problems began. After waiting about 10-15 minutes and not being greeted by anyone on the wait staff, we flagged down a server and asked if she could take our order. It was not especially busy at this point so it was odd we had not seen our waitress. She came by shortly thereafter to introduce herself and confirm she submitted our order. We saw her approximate 1-2 more in the next 20 minutes or so and not again for over an hour.
After 30 minutes went by, my colleague and I started to notice people who came in after us already had their food, we had not seen our waitress in awhile, and we still had no food. We had ordered just a chicken sandwich and chicken fried steak, things that were not difficult or time consuming. Of note, when we ordered a little after 12, the sides that came with the country fried steak were already out-mashed potatoes and green beans.
After approximately 40 minutes or so, we asked another server for a manager as we had not seen our waitress in awhile. Another 10-15 minutes or so go by and still no manager. Finally, he shows up and apologizes, agrees to comp our food, and says he is going to look into it. At that point, it was over an hour we had been there and we believed our food would now becoming very soon now that management was involved.
Boy were we wrong. It was another 35 minutes or so before our food arrived. In that time, all of the tables around us had turned over 1-2 times and received their food. At this point, our goal was to see if we would hit hour 3 before our food arrived. Once it did arrive, the woman who brought it was apologetic, super friendly, and fixed one of the issues with the sandwich in just a few minutes. Had she been involved the whole time, I think we would have had our food sooner and felt that people were actually working to get the food out to out table instead of feeling like we had been placed in some mysterious dead zone.
Once the food arrived, it was delicious, just as my meal was in Alabama. However, given the time it took and the way the situation was handled, I can't recommend anyone go there. They clearly have significant growing pains and lost sight of the most basic goal in this industry: customer service. Our waitress came back once the food arrived and apologized for the wait, claiming she put our food in, but the kitchen never received it. She said it was only much later they figured this out. Had she been more conscientious, she would have followed up sooner about why our food was not out yet and brought the manager out on her own. Both the manager and her handled the situation poorly. Our waitress admitted she was afraid to come back to our table, which was crazy because my colleague and I were very polite and not rude at all. Though we could have easily lost it, we didn't and instead chose to see the humor in it. However, the ineptness of the waitress and manager were hammered home when the last thing the waitress said to us was "Is this going to be on 2 checks..." read more
