Why I like Cheddars: -Great atmosphere -Beautiful restaurant -Great for families with young children Why I don't like Cheddars -Lack of food selection -Ok Food The waiting staff are always great, and even check to see if they can get my daughter anything. The atmosphere is wonderful, a perfect place for groups or families, and the noise level is always pretty loud so if you have an infant (Like us) who likes to talk loudly, no one will notice. I personally am not a huge fan of their food, but my husband loves it and in my opinion what they lack in extraordinary food, they make up with awesome service. read more

This was the first and probably the last time we will go to Cheddars in Columbia, Missouri. After being told on the phone that they take reservations during the week, upon arrival we were advised they didn't have our name. After waiting for a table, there was a long wait for our food and it arrived cold. Our waitress however, was very nice and attentive. After speaking with a manager, we left and won't return. We had dinner last night at Cheddars in Columbia. Not a good experience. There were 6 of us. We got seated and waiter came to get our drink order and when he came back with our drink we ordered appetizers, Texas style nachos and onion rings. Then we ordered our food. Probably sat for a good 30 minutes or more. Never saw him again till I talked to hostess about not getting appetizers or refills. She talked to manager and low and behold our appetizers came along with our food! This was after two other tables got their appetizers and food before us and they had come in after us. The appetizers are to keep you till your food arrives not the same time. The Texas nachos were cold, we had trouble getting refills and when we did he never removed the empty's mind you we had two appetizers, six suppers, and many empty glasses@ a small table. If he had come back occasionally to check it would have made the situation better. Needless to say we were very crowded. I asked for a glass of ice 3 or 4 times be fore he finally got it. We have never had a bad experience at Cheddars till last night. I have also never given a review until now. I understand they were busy and the waiters and waitresses work hard so I'm not knocking them all but our entire experience was a fiasco last night! read more

I rarely eat out and this place was recommended to me, so I went last night. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, but that was the only real good part of the evening. My boyfriend ordered the Cheddar's Painkiller, their signature mixed drink. Our waitress didn't know how much alcohol was in it and had to go ask. The portion sizes are ENORMOUS, which would be nice if the food was good. Spice covers up for the lack of correct seasoning in the fried foods. Onion rings were okay, fried shrimp tasted off, chicken tenders were extremely dry, fries tasted like they were frozen and then nuked in a microwave. The fried foods were also pretty covered in grease. I recommend you try someplace else. read more

this place is discussing. the staff when i went did not concentrate on customers like they should. instead they would talk with other employees while i was ordering their appearance was horrible as well. our servers uniform was dirty as can be, with fresh and old stains on the front of her untucked shirt. not to be mean but i dont like a fat roll on my table while i place my order when i got my food, my ribs were ice cold. chewy and tasted horrible. both of the glasses or cups we had for our drinks had lipstick and other residue on them our appetizer place had old food still on the plate underneath of the paper wrap that they put under the food to hide that they dont wash their dishes i was appalled that it was this bad for a bran new restaurant. i nor my family will every visit another one again due to the horrible experience we had read more

I was very hopeful that this place would be great, as we live in walking distance, but it was not very good. The food was just okay - not anything you can't get at Applebees. The staff was friendly, which is why it received a second star. They COMPLETELY forgot to bring out our appetizer. When we asked if our kids could split an adult entree, and wanted some extra plates, our waiter said he had to check with the manager because they don't like to give out extra plates. I had fried shrimp and ribs, which were bland, and fries that were okay. My wife had the top sirloin and said it tasted good, but her mashed potatoes were the saltiest thing she ever tasted. Check was about 40 dollars, and this place can consider our tip an extra generous parting gift. We love to give good reviews, and I wish this place could have earned one. My wife wanted to go here for Mother's Day. It's never been my favorite restaurant but I thought it was okay. The wait was moderate to get into the restaurant which was understandable. Once we sat down and look at the menu we were able to order her food within about 10 minutes. We ordered an appetizer which came out in about 15 minutes, but then it took approximately 45 minutes to get our main course. Once our food came out it was not what we had expected. My older son's pasta was lukewarm, my other kid's grilled cheese was burnt, and my wife's and my salads had warm wilted lettuce and lukewarm chicken. This is by far the worst experience we've ever had at the restaurant. This is not what we had hoped for to celebrate Mother's Day. Needless to say I will not be returning. read more

I have to agree with Molly F. - this place is great! I was visiting my mom a couple of weeks ago and we decided to eat at about 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon. The parking lot was packed but we were seated right away. They were very busy (Show Me games were in town and several soccer/softball tournaments from all the uniforms we saw) but the service was efficient and pleasant. Edward was our server. The food was inexpensive but the portions were just right. My mom had a half sandwich and soup and I had a spicy shrimp and chicken dish. Both meals were $6.99. Cheap! But they were both tasty and served warm. The ingredients were fresh. Our drinks were filled several times and the bill came out quickly. I would definitely come back because there is something for everyone on this menu. The decor was also very nice with roomy booths and clean bathrooms. read more

We had a delightful meal at Cheddar's. Only the second time I have ever eaten at a Cheddars, anywhere. They were packed but we were seated quickly. Appetizers were delicious. I ordered the lunch combo with a Caesar salad and Monte Cristo, as the sandwich is a personal favorite that I can't find very often. Unfortunately the Cristo was soggy and tasted like they had used over worked cooking oil from a prior state fair. It was a real disappointment. We are here on a very busy Saturday night. Appetizer came out great (onion rings). Meals were out in good time. Our server won our hearts when she offered our grandson a different side because he didn't like the carrots and dressing. Amazing! Had his new choice in under 1 minute. I've been to Cheddar's twice. Each time my order was salty, even my onion rings. I don't know what the cook is thinking but there's no need to use that much salt. If it wasn't for my wife I wouldn't of came here. I know I want be coming back! read more

January 22 2018 stopped to get a quick bite to eat, not very busy servers standing and talking to one another. Sat there 15 min before one of the servers sombered over to ask if I had been waited on yet. I replayed no and he walked off. Waited about her 10 min. Before I finally got up and left. I absolutely LOVE the food here, but lately the cleanliness has been less than satisfactory. We sit in the bar at the tall tables every time, and every time, I have to ask for the grease and food-smeared chairs and table to be wiped down (a second time) before I sit in them. I watch the bus boy wipe it all straight to the floor rather than the dish bucket he has with him. Hmmmm. The salt and pepper dispensers are usually covered in greasy fingerprints or ketchup and the food and drink menus peel apart from dried food. Once, I ordered a glass of wine and had to send the wine glass back TWICE because the glasses and stems were completely covered in something sticky to the point that the glass was not even transparent. The bar tender walked over and told me she must have "just had honey all over her hands" both times she poured the wine. Well then please, WASH YOUR HANDS!!! To avoid whatever it was, I used a napkin around the wine glass to take my first sip. When the napkin stuck like glue to the glass, I lost my appetite and did not finish the wine, which was very good, but I dared not send it back a third time. The water glasses my husband and friends drank from had tiny pieces of dried food covering the outside. They used their napkins to wipe them down once the condensation helped to loosened the grime. The restaurant has excellent atmosphere and is always full of guests and guests waiting to be seated to try the delicious food. I just think that management either needs to do some better training with staff or increase the level of staff to accommodate the amount customers coming through the door each day and to keep the restaurant CLEAN. I'm giving this once favorite restaurant one more try tonight and am hoping like heck things are better. I really want to love coming here again. read more

NOPE! I went there with my family, my kids are 6 and 10. We were looking for an inexpensive, but decent place where everyone could get something they wanted. We were seated quickly, but it took 15 minutes for the server to approach us. She seemed irritated that she had children at one of her tables. Not really a family inviting demeanor. Service over all was VERY slow. Like an hour to get food, and empty glasses were more common than filled ones. The food was boring, bland, and in my wife's case, under-cooked. Her fish was still cool in the middle. When I say the food is boring, that's exactly what I mean. It's the microwaved chicken or fish on a pile of bland rice, or a frozen steak with a side watery steamed vegetables that you've seen since the early 1980s in every cheap "American" restaurant you've ever eaten at. My husband I went to Cheddars for lunch and arrived a little after they opened. He ordered the Monty Cristo sandwich and I ordered the Smokehouse Burger. His sandwich was so greasy that when he touched it, grease dripped all over. My burger was better, however the huge mound of fried onions on it was just as greasy. We think their oil wasn't up to temperature and the person frying the food didn't care. The server was great and did let the manager know, in which he didn't charge us for my husband's meal, which he didn't eat. DO NOT COME HERE TO WATCH MIZZOU FOOTBALL. I came off I-70 and stopped here for lunch and to watch the MU UF game. They had the A&M game on on every TV in the restaurant. I asked the bar tender if she could put one of the TVs on the MU game. She said sorry, only the manager can change the channel. Apparently the manager keeps the remote instead of leaving it with the bar tender. I asked if they could find the manager to change one of the TVs and was shrugged at. I get not everyone is a fan of football. But don't bother putting football on the TV if you're not going to play the local game. I missed the first score because of this. I went to Applebee's instead. At least they had the right game on. Shame on you. I will never visit Cheddar's again. The food isn't good enough to put up with silly service like this. If I was the owner I would have a serious talk with that manager. It's collage football and this is a collage town for crying out load. read more

Just left this restaurant. I was celebrating my birthday. My table was told to quiet down for interrupting the atmosphere so large parties need not attend. The manager was very nice and pleasant about it though. Service however was terrible. No one received a refill on water, 4 people requested additional beverages, nothing. 3 stars for the food - it was pretty decent. I love their croissants! Our waitress was friendly. She messed up my order but it was fixed very fast & the manager came to the table to personally apologize. I deducted two stars for the attitude of some of the staff - I went with my 2 1/2 year old son on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was full of families and kids. It's not like it's a fine dining restaurant. As we walked into the restaurant I overheard a waiter telling the hostess "Oh, you can seat so-and-so next." Which I took to mean, INSTEAD of him because heaven forbid a child at his table. Then as the hostess walked us to our table the same server laughed sarcastically to the waitress who would have to serve us. I was in foodservice for 7 years. I know kids can be messy, but this server needs to grow up or find a new job. It's completely unacceptable for your patrons to overhear staff making comments like this. If you're going to complain about your customers may I suggest you do it somewhere they aren't LISTENING! Not sure if I will go back. I should have said something or at least gotten the servers name, but I was kind of embarrassed in the moment. For the record my child is almost always well behaved in restaurants! He might make a bit of a mess but I try to clean up after him and if I can't I tip accordingly. Because I've been there. We request PHIL as a server when we go and she provides excellent menu advice and friendly, prompt service. Cheddar's gets 1 star because I cannot give them 0 stars. My daughter had a basketball tournament in Columbia (Show Me State Games) where we first discovered Cheddar's a year ago. It was wonderful so we decided to go again this tournament. This time it was a larger group. We were seated quickly and that's where the train began to come off the rails. Our waitress was not very friendly, did not refill drinks and was m.i.a. for most of our experience. It took nearly 1 hour to get any of our party's food (i.e. appetizers and not even everything.) While other guests came in after us and received their food (entree's) before us. My 3 year old son was extremely patient but in the end we left without eating. By the way, I ordered a Caesar salad, club sandwich and my son had chicken tenders. Tough order! My wife and daughter were finally eating their appetizers so they paid the bill. When told to remove our items from the bill since we had left due to the wait the manager was extremely rude to my wife. Apparently, the customer is not always right and this restaurant, at least is not actually for dining. We will NOT be going back. read more
