Gross rotten avocado on my nachos and a bug flew out of the container when I opened it! Paid for extra sour cream of course was missing. This place is a mess!

Great food and a favorite is the southwest chicken sandwich. My issue is with the take out/pick-up system that requires you wait in the long line (used for ordering food) to grab your 20 minute ago order and pay for it. Now my food is cold! Not a good system-so I will need to find other places to eat to make it reasonable for my lunch time allowed. Request that they change the system to take a phone payment system in order to keep up with today's faced-paced world. Please tell them you don't like their present method when you are picking it up, if it is a problem for you.

Savannah Cobb Salad and Chili Ole potato
    Renee B.

Came here for a fast dinner before leaving town. Walking in the door, they didn't seem too busy but yet there were several tables not cleaned off. As soon as we approached the ordering counter we were immediately greeted with a friendly smile. The people behind the counter were all very friendly, nice, and helpful. We placed our order and went to sit down. I got the "Choose 2" with a half of their chili ole baked potato and half of their Savannah Cobb salad. It didn't take long and the food came out. The baked potato half was big. Could have made that my meal as I wasn't super hungry. The baked potato had chili, cheese and jalapenos on top. I felt the potato itself was a little dry even with the toppings mixed in. But good flavor. I was full after eating it and had to take the salad to go to eat the next day. Eating the salad the next day, it was good. Full of flavors: had dried cranberries, gorgonzola, sliced almonds, chicken, and a vinaigrette dressing. My niece got the broccoli cheddar soup which she said was delicious. My nephew got the kids potato plain with Doritos, which he displayed around the potato to make it look photo worthy. :) My sister got the chicken dumpling soup and sandwich from their choose two menu. My mom got their potato soup and McAlister club. She said both were good. Dad got their broccoli cheddar soup and the Spud Max half potato. Everyone enjoyed what they got. Dad and myself both thought the potato was dry. Just needed a little butter before the toppings were put on. Overall, we would go back again if we are in the area.

Disappointed with McAlister's Deli, tonite. Cold Nachos. No Chili.

Things started out well, the BF had a tasty Manhattan and I had a mocktail that was subtle and delicious, and not overpriced as mocktails often are. But alas. The house salads that we ordered were overdressed in a vinaigrette so acidic we couldn't finish them. And there wasn't much to them. Other than greens and fried shallots and pickled red onions, there was a tiny dusting of some finely grated cheese. And who needs two kinds of onions and nothing else on the salad? Then we each had a bowl of the matzo ball soup, which was ridiculous. Three matzo balls sitting in a quarter-inch of broth that was so unbelievably salty that we couldn't eat that either. We ended up asking for hot water to dilute the broth to a level of saltiness that was edible. The chicken was okay and the matzo balls were okay. A little gummy. But the broth was just awful. It all made me wonder if the chef had lost their sense of taste due to Covid or something. Seriously. I've had that happen to me a couple of times and all I could taste was really basic stuff like sour and salt. And our waitress was totally uninterested in trying to make our experience better. She wasn't rude, she was just indifferent to the fact that we'd been served two courses that we absolutely couldn't eat. Didn't offer us anything to compensate or even express any sympathy about it. We got out of there as fast as we could and made ourselves feel better with an Andy's frozen custard.

Besides my family-in-law's cooking this was the highlight of our Missouri culinary experience…read more After a 3 hour flight it was a three hour drive to our destination. About 2 hours in we see signs on highway 54 for "Barnyard Smokehouse". Drooling over the signs and starving my wife start calculating by the time we arrive at our destination it'll be too late to eat with family so we follow the signs. There's no offramp, just hang an instant right off the highway onto the dirt road at the barnyard. Used to clearly marked offramps I missed it and had to take a detour. Luckily in Missouri you can make u-turns on the freeway :-D The entire property is the "Central Missouri Meat & Sausage". There's a deli, market, and restaurant called "Barnyard Smokehouse". Beef and pork is locally raised and butchered on site. Walking in the door we're greeted by warm and friendly people telling us to sit wherever. The restaurant is inside the market/deli to the right. Lots of tables. To start we order some fried pickles. They're sliced thin and battered in cornmeal and served with ranch dressing which is one of the food groups in Missouri. I wish the pickles used were more sour but they tasted really good. For dinner I had their smoked brisket with Texas toast, BBQ beans and Mac-n-Cheese. My wife had the same thing but with "bacon, cheddar, and ranch potato salad" and mac-n-cheese. When it came out I was skeptical since the tri-tip came out in paper thin slices but I shouldn't have judged a pile of meat by its looks since it was fantastic. Beef was saturated with smoky goodness and due to the thin cuts it was super tender. On the table was several made in house BBQ sauces. I really enjoyed their spicy one and my wife liked the sweet one. Side dishes were great too. Due to our odd flight times we only had a tiny sandwich on the airplane so we both devoured everything on our plates. While waiting for our food I walked over to the dessert case and perused. Another standard item in Missouri are refrigerated whip creamed based "pies". We ordered the oreo cookie one. It was gut busting rich. Thick slab of dense vanilla custard topped with crushed oreos and whipped cream. Super rich and decadent. We both felt like we were going to burst after our meals but it was a great start to our vacation. When walking around the market after we saw these giant 6 to 7 foot cured meat sticks made from pork. Since we were going to a potluck in a few days we got 4 of them and at the party cut them up into bite sized pieces. These pork sticks are AMAZING. The BBQ flavor was the favorite followed by the jalapeno. They have them in more reasonable sized pieces too that are vacuum sealed. I bought some for myself and some co-workers. If you find yourself driving on Highway 54 through Fulton, MO do yourself a favor and follow the signs to this great place!!

I had driven through Hermann plenty of times but never stopped until April 29, 2026. Now I'm wondering why I waited so long. Right away, this place stands out--vending machines outside stocked with their own brats (available anytime) and a dog-friendly patio. Already a win. Inside, we were greeted by owner Mike Sloan, who took the time to walk us through everything. That level of hospitality sets the tone. The staff was fantastic, and while waiting for our food (which came out quickly), we checked out their in-house products and free samples--impressive doesn't even begin to cover it. Food highlights: Reuben on rye (daily special): incredible "Best of Show Bratwurst": must-order German potato salad: better than what I've had in Baden-Baden Smoked gouda pasta salad + traditional potato salad: both excellent After talking with Mike, it's clear why everything is so good--this is passion-driven craftsmanship.
