Murrys is my all time favorite in Columbia! The ambiance and vibrance of sitting down for a meal in here is awesome. One of my favorite parts is the live jazz music they usually have. I will say I do not know the music schedule as sometimes when I come there is no live music. The wait for this place can get insanely long and it is justified why it gets so long. Come here, put your name in and have a plan for the wait. I would recommend coming early. They do have a very small waiting room where you can order drinks, but a table being open is extremely unreliable. I feel Murrys is a staple of Columbia that everyone should try once. read more

The strip steak and mashed potatoes were good, however the Fettuccine Alfredo was super watery and thin. The salad wasn't too good either. The bell peppers were unique and definitely a standout! We got the ice cream torte for dessert. I would say the food itself is nothing to write home about, but the live jazz and experience is what makes this place famous. Tuesday night at 8:30. Place was packed. Reviews seem to indicate this is THE place to eat in Columbia. Phew. It says "cozy". Cram packed is more like it. Live jazz. Nope. A piano player you could barely hear over the noise. The wait was 30 minutes. No big deal. The "waitress" in the holding pen asked us if we wanted something to drink. Each ordered a beer. $8.09. Gave her $20.25. She gave me a $10 back. That was presumptuous; she cashed us out before our table was ready. Weird. We were seated by the kitchen and bathrooms. We ordered the oysters (phenomenal!), frog legs (excellent), blue corn chip bread (garlic bread with shrimp--just meh), dinner salad with creamy peppercorn (fresh and delightful) and the southwest chicken soup (brothy and excellent with a lot of big pieces of moist chicken breast; great depth of flavor). It was plenty for us as I don't eat much. The service in the dining room was EXCELLENT! She answered questions. She was prompt with food and helped with extra napkins. We would go back for the oysters and crab legs and even the salad! The rest you can keep. Prices are very low and well worth it! We couldn't hear each other talk, let alone even think. I really hate posting things like this, but I hope the owner sees it and takes it seriously. My family has been going to Murry's for 35 years and until now, we've never had a bad experience. We arrived at 6:30 and were told it would be an hour to an hour and a half wait, which was fine. After about 30 minutes, we found open seats at the bar and decided to eat there instead of waiting longer. That's when the issues started. We were served after people who sat down after us, waited 35 minutes for a simple appetizer (onion rings and cheese bread), and were ignored when we asked about it. The bartender, Madison, was especially rude. She served people on both sides of us but ignored our empty drinks. It took nearly another 30 minutes for our main dishes, while others who arrived later were served and finished their meals. Throughout this, Madison was dismissive, and Sara, our server, barely acknowledged us until I said something. Even then, basic service like refilling drinks or pouring the wine we purchased was neglected. To top it off, this was my dad's 73rd birthday -- not the night we expected from a place we've loved for decades. Sara apologized and said they'd comp the meal, but I left $150 in cash anyway, not wanting a free meal. Still, I never even got a bill or total. This experience was very disappointing. The quality and service at Murry's has clearly declined. I hope the management addresses these issues, especially with staff like Madison and Sara, because this isn't the Murry's we've known for 35 years. read more

My daughter and I are driving from Florida to the Pacific Northwest and decided to end the day's travels in Colombia, MO. Neither of us have been here before, so looked online for dining suggestions before heading to our hotel for the night. Murrys popped up and looked promising, so we made our way there. I am going to say that everything about this dining experience was five stars. It could not have been a more stellar meal. From the moment we were seated, everything was perfect. The staff is top notch, the pianist was excellent and our server went beyond, as I am willing to bet she does for all the restaurant's customers. Thank you Hanna. You turned a fantastic dining experience into the perfect evening for my daughter and I. We started with cocktails, made to perfection by the bar staff. At Hanna's recommendation, we first had the fried bell peppers. She let know these were a house favorite, and I can see why. While the powdered sugar seemed out of place, it really made the dish pop! Along with the delicious cheesy garlic bread, the appetizers were awesome. We then split a garlic salad, which I would most certainly order again. The food was delivered perfectly, allowing us to savor each course. For the entree, we split a perfectly cooked New York strip, medium rare, and the house mashed potatoes. Kudos to the chef for the mouth-watering steak. Every bite was flavorful and satisfying. For a side, we got the mashed potatoes, which were velvety, buttery and absolutely melt-in-your mouth delicious. Idaho should give the chef a culinary award! Finally, we decided to get the hazelnut cheesecake to go, since neither of us had room for dessert after this scrumptious meal. But, let's be honest, there's always room for at least a taste of dessert. And what a taste it was. The final course was as flavorful and as perfect as the rest of the meal. I don't know if I will ever have the opportunity to return to Columbus. I couldn't be more grateful that our travels brought us to Murrys. I will always remember this as one of the finest dinners I have had, and I anxiously wait for an excuse to return to Murrys. read more

I have loved Murray's since I went to Mizzou 5 years ago. Every time I am in Columbia, I make an effort to go here, but it is always so busy on the weekends. So when I found myself in Columbia on a Wednesday evening, I jumped at the chance. Exactly the same as I remembered, service was amazing, food was amazing.
