    German Wurst Plate

Tried and true. No, no it's not the Old Heidelberg of long ago, sadly burned to the ground, but good vibe never dies. Walking around campus can build up a thirst and hunger and it's an easy place to meet both of those needs. The Ruben was well toasted and the corned beef was the real deal. I went out on a limb and got the warm German potato salad, oh my, sehr gut. The German sausage plate also looked tasty and shareable. Just not something you can get anywhere. Our server was on it. The place was packed and he didn't miss a beat. He was very friendly and kept us squared away. Oh, you won't miss the game, plenty if tv's to catch it on.

The Heidelberg is a popular American-German restaurant and pub for both locals and tourists. The Heidleberg is located downtown Columbia, right next to the University of Missouri campus. This spot has the best happy hour deals I have ever seen: buy 1 get 1 appetizers! I always order the toasted raviolis and breaded mushrooms when I am at Heidelberg! This spot also has amazing Rueben sandwiches! There is plenty of seating in the downstairs area, as well as the open patio! On a sunny day, enjoying a nice beverage and appetizers on the patio at the Heidelberg is a must!

It's been years since we've been to this MU Institution. So happy to see it was still open. However, I wish I just had hung into the fond memories. Update on food. Patty melt was very disappointing. The thinnest cheese possible and the meat did not taste good at all. The German potato salad was still wonderful. Now let's talk restrooms and general cleanliness. Oh how I wish I could. It was disgusting through and through. And this is just the start. The floors throughout are a sticky mess.

This is a basic college bar/restaurant. Nothing special. Food isn't bad. The service has been better than average. They have good drink specials and great happy hour. Also a wide variety of beers. - Chicken tenders (3.5/5): very basic but still pretty good. - Sweet potato fries (2/5): not very tasty, tasted frozen. Maybe they weren't cooked right but these were not good. - Buffalo chicken dip (4/5): the best appetizer we've had there. Buffalo is always yummy and this one tastes just like the Trader Joe's version which is delicious. Probably would come back here, but mainly for the happy hour!

very good fries nice and crispy, friend got the burger looked good she said 7/10 would get it again, excellent service

Wurst Plate. I highly suggest this one; if you like German food. It was quite good on all fronts.

This place is a tale of two stories and here's why: A. The German related dish of the wurst plate - has a few homemade items which had it being great (as German food goes). The bratwurst and knackwurst were made in a small town outside of Columbia. The Kraut is also being made by someone...and it was darn good too. And the German potato salad - has a great blend of apple cider vinegar, sugar and bacon....that this side dish was pretty great. My 4 stars is for this dish only. B. Fish and chips. Pre-fab quick fried stuff. That not only is not something to "write home about".....but is a plate to avoid. If you're craving fish...again, avoid the disappointment of this low-end pre-fab item. C. Country Fried Steak dinner. I didn't personally eat, but my son will also know what is a good representation of a country fried steak. "It was nothing" I believe was the response. Did appear to be some powder/bag gravy. Mashed potatoes were reasonable....but again...topped with gravy which is clearly lackluster. The place has been around for 50+ years. The German food I had was quite good. And though the burgers and such may be good....when I see the lower end Cisco type products being used for other dishes...I don't hold my breath on the other items being special. But to hang out and drink some beers...sure...this place would always been good for just that too....

This place is an old faithful. It is tucked into downtown Columbia amongst many of the other staple restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and other mom and pop store friends. It has been around for years and is in walking distance from some of the campus buildings like the law school. The drinks here have a strong pour for the dollar value and you can expect your normal run-of-the-mill bar food, but it is the nostalgia that you'll be coming back for!

They brew their own beer and it was all super tasty. The bartender was also nice enough to give me a small sample of two of the beers so I can decide which I wanted to have with my meal. My friend and I shared a pizza, a platter of wings, and a burnt ends plate. First of all- I was shocked how good the pizza was. Given I'm originally from NJ, I'm a bit of a pizza snob. But it was actually quite tasty. The platter of wings was solid. Not the biggest wings in the world, but the plate came with a bunch and the sauce was really good. And the burnt ends were phenomenal. Super tender, lots of flavor. The place itself was very lively- lots of happy, talking people getting ready for the night. Certainly a place to come to feel "energy". I was certainly overly stuffed after this meal- would come back again!

The beers are top-notch -- from the easy-drinking Canned Good and Flor Blanca Mexican Lager to the rich Thresher Porter, they're clearly brewing with care and creativity. The food matches the quality of the beer. We've been here for brunch and highly recommend it -- everything from the eggs to the bread feels fresh and flavorful. I also love how many of their ingredients are sourced locally, which really adds to the quality and uniqueness of each dish. On this visit, we shared the fried cheese curds and the brisket grilled cheese! We also happened to stop by for a jazz night, which was such a fun surprise. The live music totally elevated the atmosphere and made the evening feel special. That said, there's still a bit more they could do with the space -- it would be great to see more regular live music or special events to bring even more life to the room. Prices are a bit higher than average for Columbia, but for the quality, atmosphere, and local charm, it's worth it. Great beer, great food, great people -- a solid 4 stars!

Things started out well, the BF had a tasty Manhattan and I had a mocktail that was subtle and delicious, and not overpriced as mocktails often are. But alas. The house salads that we ordered were overdressed in a vinaigrette so acidic we couldn't finish them. And there wasn't much to them. Other than greens and fried shallots and pickled red onions, there was a tiny dusting of some finely grated cheese. And who needs two kinds of onions and nothing else on the salad? Then we each had a bowl of the matzo ball soup, which was ridiculous. Three matzo balls sitting in a quarter-inch of broth that was so unbelievably salty that we couldn't eat that either. We ended up asking for hot water to dilute the broth to a level of saltiness that was edible. The chicken was okay and the matzo balls were okay. A little gummy. But the broth was just awful. It all made me wonder if the chef had lost their sense of taste due to Covid or something. Seriously. I've had that happen to me a couple of times and all I could taste was really basic stuff like sour and salt. And our waitress was totally uninterested in trying to make our experience better. She wasn't rude, she was just indifferent to the fact that we'd been served two courses that we absolutely couldn't eat. Didn't offer us anything to compensate or even express any sympathy about it. We got out of there as fast as we could and made ourselves feel better with an Andy's frozen custard.

Ernie's was not on the list, but once in town both the bride and groom verbally recommended it for breakfast. The wedding was Saturday, so before I left town on Sunday, I filled my tummy with a classic breakfast. It's a popular diner, so there was a line out the door. I will say, the manager/hostess kept it moving. A Karen, cut past several of waiting a went inside and went to take an open stool. She was quickly sent back outside and to the end of the line. The hostess, then came out and told another single diner and myself to come and take which stool we wanted at the counter. Ernie offers 12 different combos for breakfast, I picked one that I thought I wanted. When I ordered and said to hold the buttered toast and give me an half order of Biscuits and Gravy. My waitress was so sweet, she said, nope. She said she was going to save me money by ordering me the #11 and replacing the French Toast with the B&G. That's excellent customer service. My Combo #11 was delicious. Had my eggs scrambled and they were super fluffy and simply seasoned. The three slices of bacon were crispy and the Hash Browns had crispy edges. However, the true star of my breakfast was the Biscuit and Gravy. The biscuit wasn't as fluffy as I'd like, but the gravy was top notch. I love pepper and it was extremely peppery which made me happy. If anyone is going to Columbia, I'd tell them to stop by Ernie's for breakfast. When I come back to COMO, I'm going to stop by for lunch and enjoy a burger. Dick Tracy, thinks about them all the time.
