This place is as advertised yet better. Unbelievable service. Attention to detail. Started with the buffalo wings. Unreal and good portion. I had the strip steak and it was perfect. Side of broccoli. My father had the salmon with Pesto. The pesto was so fresh and so good. All the clientele were awesome as well, all very friendly. This place is lovely and highly recommend. Best food so far in Columbia. I had the seasonal tomato salad with anchovies and I added feta. I had the blue chips cheese bread which comes with shrimp on it. Together it was a great meal. I sat at the bar and the bartender (AM) was great help. read more

I was pretty disappointed with Murrys. It was recommended to me by my friends, but I just wasn't a fan. My pasta was too soupy and our calamari was a bit soggy. My boyfriend enjoyed his steak and the fries were pretty good, but overall I wouldn't recommend. I was hoping this place would have a nicer/upscale feel, but it reminded me of somewhere the retirement home takes a lunch field trip too instead. I would rate my experience a 5/10. read more

Always great ambience and good service, and they have the best wings I've ever had anywhere. They're not overcooked, so they stay really tender and juicy. I also love the black beast dessert, so decadent! I just have to say that, even though my favorite menu item (many years and different owners ago) used to be the blue chips cheese bread, they shouldn't have changed the type of bread that was used, so I just don't order it anymore. read more

The restaurant has a good variety of food choices for whatever mood you might be in, from calamari to oysters to start. The Murrys Special Salad for a delicious main or intermediary course if you're really hungry then onto any one of the mains from sandwiches to steaks! Drinks are well priced, and abundant in selection. Atmosphere is good for lunch but can be excessively loud when the band plays their raucous jazz. It's good but you have to be seated well away from them. Service is good with waters set on your table as you are seated. The experienced staff gets you all you need in a timely manner. read more

I love the vibes of the entire business; when you walk in, there isn't extremely loud music or bright lights. It truly allows you to relax! For food, I love the pesto chicken! I don't understand the hype of this place or it's current ratings. I've gone twice and the food just isn't that good. Yes the vibe is nice if you are looking for a darker atmosphere. I found the fish (Salmon and Mahi) were decent, well seasoned but a bit on the salty side. The sides here are just not good. I tried the broccoli and potatoes. Both had very little seasoning. For the price, these sides should be packed with flavor. It was about $4 for four pieces of broccoli. Also, about half of the potatoes were rotten (I mean black inside) even though they were cut in half. Why serve that? I'm glad people enjoy this place, but I don't think the price matches the quality and with such hype I had higher expectations. read more

I am in town on business. I found this restaurant on Yelp, the food and service was good. The ambiance left something to be desired. It's way too dark. I had to turn my phone light on to see the menu and the menu itself is very very basic as far as descriptions it just gives you the title of the dish with absolutely no description whatsoever, which I found very odd. That being said, I did enjoy my pasta dish and. My salad, although the server brought them both out at same time, but he did apologize for that as he misunderstood me when I ordered. Since food and staff were good, I'll give it 4 stars but in general I do like to see my menu AND my food when I go out to eat. read more

The menu does not have any descriptions so when one orders they expect one thing but although technically it is the item it would be nice if they would describe it so you are not surprised when you get hot a hot pepper in your Philly steak Sandwich. It would have also been nice to have a warm bun for the sandwich tat was not stale on the end where it had been cut for, I assume, another sandwich. If you choose to order steak that is all you get. There is no vegetable or anything else that comes with. If you want a veggie or potato that costs extra. The food was passable but nothing to go back for. The service was horrible. At one point we had to ask another employee to tell our waiter he was needed. That was after we had waved at him several times. When time to pay our bills one member of our party of four had to hunt him down, literally. The atmosphere was nice and comfortable. I get the hype now. Everyone keeps on talking about the wait and how it's worth it, and they are very right. It was worth it. We came on a Friday night, and waited 45 min for two around 6pm. There's a bartender walking around taking drink orders, which makes it all less painful. Once seated, the waitress really knew what she was doing. Didn't need to write anything down, got our food out right away. The prices are unbeatable. They have increased their prices in the past few years, but it's still SO cheap. Cheap for the midwest. I loved the steak sandwich. It's literally a large piece of steak with two pieces of bread. The pork chop sandwich was incredible, and the sugar-coated green peppers were worth the try. What was interesting is we got a piece of calamari in our green peppers, which was better than what we ordered. We'll be getting that next time. Also got an eggplant fry in our regular fries, which was really tasty. Thanks for the mistakes! It allowed us to try some other great things. We will be back soon!! read more

I was told to visit here and was very glad I listened. What a cold environment! The whole place just has a neat atmosphere and I loved the jazz music. Service was prompt and helpful with recommendations from the menu. I ordered the pastrami and swiss sandwich. If you like pastrami you will love this sandwich. The pastrami was tender, juicy, and the cheese was melted perfectly. Honestly, one of my favorite pastrami sandwiches I have ever had. One thing you may want to know is the desserts are supposedly epic. I did not have room for one but I saw a few come out to tables around my group and I will be back for one. The food is pretty good but nothing I've found is exceptional. Brocks green pepper appetizer I will say is unique and yummy! I've loved every meal I've ever eaten here. Try the fried bell peppers with powdered sugar. Sounds odd I know but very tasty. Live music most nights and they've hosted some top name jazz artists over the years. Be aware that you'll have a wait most nights and they don't take reservations. Murry's (great food, great jazz) is a dimly-lit minefield that carves out the lion's share of a strip mall, surrounded by the piteous haunting forms of a laundromat and a Domino's Pizza. It is a local favorite, at least among the ambulatory geriatric community, which translates to at least a 30-minute wait for a table for two on any given evening. This wait starts early -- 5 PM, by some accounts -- and winds deep into the evening, expanding and contracting like a smoked-out lung, surpassing the playing time of the sad pianist who comes unbidden, plays one or two pieces (jazz or otherwise), and then leaves. Murry's (great food, great jazz) is a minefield, I say, because like all effective minefields, its hazards are unmarked. To the contrary: the bulk of reviews here heap praises on the food (great food, great jazz), which would be surprising were this not the country that made Applebee's such a rousing, insurmountable success. At its best, the food is fine; at worst, it is cheap salami heaped on leaves made soggy by a concentrated, centralized wad of dressing, topped with an excess of three-cheese mix; it is the stale reminder of a better burger; it is the jazz equivalent of "Kind of Blue" being covered by a high school orchestra. You can have a drink while you wait, but perhaps you shouldn't. The beer selection is not adventurous, and the wine selection is misadventurous. The cocktails are ominously unlisted. My fiance and I have indulged in a few different glasses over our several visits here, and each time our expressions contorted and our eyes bulged in unique, fascinating ways. The desserts are cheap. If you do not know how to cook, have never been particularly interested in good food, and reminisce fondly on only the anonymous jazz piano notes you've heard at similar dimly-lit restaurants, then Murry's (great food, great jazz) is perfect for you. Do not bother getting reservations, because they do not take reservations. Just show up, order an ordinary beer or a glass of extraordinary wine, wait far too long, and content yourself with an experience that serves contentment at best. Or... look *just across the street*, to a restaurant like Flyover that actually takes itself seriously. The Midwest's reputation as a haven of mediocrity is sorely undeserved, but Murry's (great food, great jazz) reputation gives one cause for concern. read more

Originally I wasn't sure about the concept, I've been to plenty of jazz bars done wrong and those were in cities with a much more prevalent jazz culture than Columbia. They're just artificial or pretentious or emphasize the wrong things. Hands down best jazz bar I've been to for 3 reasons. 1. The food was quick even though it was crowded and it was DELICIOUS even though everything is A la Carte. Got an enormous Philly for not much money. Girlfriend but her own amazing shrimp Alfredo. 2. It was dark! Jazz bars are supposed to feel smoky and dark and it was honestly like being on Mad Men, except there was no smoking. Fluorescent Walmart lights can really kill a vibe. 3. The service was very quick and attentive. My water wasn't ever empty and I never felt lost. This was a Friday night, in theory a very busy time and it was busy there, but I saw my server plenty and she had recommendations. The jazz you can't control for. The night we went it was very good, next time it could be very bad. But seeing the quality of the rest of the restaurant, I'd be surprised if anything was too bad. read more
