My SO had the chicken fried steak with carrots and mash. He loved everything about it. He cleaned his plate. lol Was a perfect night to go! The Homemade Onion Rings are back! They taste essentially the same as they did before the pandemic. Now, they're a bit crunchier. They came with the same dipping sauces as before (Ranch and a "Cajun" sauce). If you haven't tried them yet then you should now! For entrées, we ordered the Grilled Chicken Pecan Salad and the Crispy Chicken Tender Salad. Both salads were fresh and delicious. The service was attentive and friendly. Imagine wanting to spend your time with family wasted on not only poor quality of food but on service as well. Being a long time customer I must say that not only is this upsetting, but it is also disheartening to understand the treatment of a disabled veteran celebrating his wife's anniversary. I just endured the worst meal in memory. On the evening of January 31st, we went to the Largo Cheddars, and it was like walking into a meat locker. It was super-cold outside, and they had the air conditioning going full-blast. The customers were all sitting there in outdoor jackets and some with hats and gloves, even when eating. We asked if they could turn the air conditioning off or at least not blowing right on us, but we understand that the manager said "no", despite lots of other customer complaints and even some staff. With the exception of one pot pie, all our other food came out cold and unappetizing. We ended up taking most of it home to reheat it so that it was edible. We have been to this restaurant many times before and always been satisfied but will never go back now after such treatment. read more

Very dimly lit joint which is a bit odd for something envisioning itself as a southern type restaurant. We sat in the bar (there's actually a bar in there). Barkeep was Brandon; I was a bit reticent at first because he didn't seem that outgoing. Once my dear Queen Bee said we'd never been here, he became a lil more outgoing. He went on to tell us what he likes, about drink specials, what many people order, etc. We didn't want apps, soup or anything so we just perused the menu a bit. Queen Bee already knew what she wanted but I deferred a bit. She had chicken tenders with a side salad and by Brandon's suggestion broccoli cheese casserole. Salad was basically a salad, to paraphrase the Queen Bee. Brandon mixed up the dressing she wanted for her tenders (ranch ) with what she wanted for salad (bleu cheese). He also forgot to bring out the (now salad) dressing so he dashed back off to get what turned out to be the wrong one. That gaff was followed by the broccoli cheese casserole (Brandon's "favorite" no less) clusterf**k. It was pure crap! Tasted like the "green stuff" one might find on a high school cafeteria lunch tray. Not only that, but it was also cold...not tepid, not warm, but COLD. I convinced her to get rid of it for something else; she chose mashed taters. "Gravy," Brandon asked...he said he likes their beef gravy. I rolled my eyes when she agreed to beef gravy. Big clusterf**k number two. Taters were a bit salty, but the gravy sent me back yet again to that high school cafeteria lunch tray. Blech! Straight from a bag, a can or an electric mixer...The ol' gravy boat certainly didn't take a side trip to Flavortown. I think the poor thing sank in the mudflats with all hands down!!! Her tenders were quite good, she said. Honey hot sauce was too acidic for either of us. My ribeye was okay; cooked to a slightly underdone medium. It was topped with garlic butter, which gave that mediocre meat mass a bit more flavor. Baked tater was a baked tater. I find it saddening to report that the best part of the meal was a (Caesar) salad, which can be one's second side for a small up charge. That is rather strange, but I guess it involves more work than just opening a bag of frozen corn or (heaven forbid) that horrendous broccoli cheese casserole. Would we return? Eh...I know that if we DO choose to return (damn big IF), we'd choose different (and simpler) food items. She'd have chosen fries with her tenders, and I'd probably stay with something like country fried steak, montecristo or something...and definitely NOT mashed taters, broccoli cheese casserole, or much of ANYTHING ELSE that Brandon likes. On the way to a concert, we stopped at this restaurant (first visit) at opening time 5pm. There is a peaceful fish tank in the entrance on the right. Nice touch. We were seated quickly and Anthony, our server, was top notch. He brought bread (must-have honey crescents) and menus right away. Next came beverages and he took our order within five minutes. He knew that menu well and it came to the table hot within 10min!! He was so quick and efficient. He is a team player and agreeable to work any position in the restaurant (cook, server and definitely a people pleaser). The chef (?)came out (Luis) and asked if everything was ok. It was so good to see people working together!! The food was delicious. I had bourbon glazed salmon, rice, carrots and corn and my husband had fried chicken, mashed potatoes, carrots and gravy. We stopped in for lunch with a group of five adults. The atmosphere was very welcoming and able to seat us without any problems right away. Both food and service were very good and quick to arrive at the table. Portion sizes are very large, so there should be plenty to take home for another meal. This is our 2nd time in a week to have supper at Cheddars Clearwater. The first time we had baked potato but small amounts of butter and sour cream made it seem dry. But the pork chops were first class! Yum! The second time the pork chops were overcooked and very tough. But I added bacon to a stuffed baked potato with xtra butter/sour cream ( which isn't very stuffed if it's only stuffed with butter and s. cream, btw). I didn't complain or be negative because of the other 7 guests with me. The appetizer came only a minute before the meal so that was a downer As well. So I'm suggesting closer attn to details. Timing, more careful meat grilling and being up front about what's in a loaded bake. Now the service the second time was really good for all of us. Isabella was her name. Hope it helps! I was disappointed to learn that they don't give you a basket of croissants anymore. It's just one buttered croissant per person. My husband and I just moved to Florida so we're looking for different places to try and we ended up here. Since they don't have Cheddar's Scratch restaurants in California, this was a new chain to us! We got the chicken pecan salad (good and fresh) and the Key West chicken & shrimp dish (yummy!) Loved the free honey butter croissant and the tasty side we got of broccoli cheese casserole. Topped it off with very good carrot cake. Our server Samuel was super nice and really predicted our needs before we even had to ask (extra plates to split our food, additional ice for our iced tea, etc.) 2 thumbs way up!! read more

Walked in with a party of six at 9:27 PM. Waitress did not get to the table until 9:47 PM. The waitress was obviously bothered that she had to take this table. I ordered a couple of drinks from the bar, they did not come for another 20 minutes. At this point, we were at the restaurant for 40 minutes with no drinks. No apologies nothing. The drinks finally came, and the waitress finally asked us for our food order. The food then came another half an hour later. Mind you we are near 11 o'clock now and this is the time they close and instead of hurrying up with the six tables they have, the workers were hanging out in the kitchen, laughing with each other. I called the manager over to the table and she was so surprised that we were there for so long without any food yet. She seemed nice but there's no way she didn't know what was going on in her restaurant. Wife did order a steak, medium, but of course it came well done for some reason, but the manager took that off of the bill. But this was probably the worst service I have ever had in my entire life, there was six tables in the whole restaurant with more than one server, and that was the service we got. I would not be surprised if the server got fired for how poor she was doing because they were other tables also complaining about her. When the food finally did come, we packed it up and left, but it tasted not bad. But again the service was so bad that I am giving this one stars and never ever returning. read more

I appreciate the re brand and the revised menu to come across as a healthier type of restaurant where selections are made to order however the taste of their food does not warrant any type of 5 star review or a revisit anytime soon. I will give the greeters 5 stars as they open the doors for the elderly there when they arrive/leave Cheddar's - such a nice touch. That's where it ends. The interior is nice but waaay to dimmly lit inside the restaurant. I'll cut to the main event where I ordered the Bone-in Ribeye cooked Medium Rare. The steak was fine, really didn't have any overwhelming flavor for being a Bone In. My biggest gripe about this Steak was the amount of fat on this piece. I spent a good amount of time, trimming the fat off this steak before I had my 1st bite. Prior to this which really upset myself the table of 3, was that when our salads arrived, our entrees showed up 1 minute later. The spacing out of time between these two was really poor. My grandmother loves this place and next time, I'm going to do my best to get Key West Chicken & Shrimp somewhere else. Be very leery of the pictures and reviews for this restaurant. As of this date, cheddars scratch kitchen has re-opened for only six months. It is now corporate owned. I have purposely not reviewed the "new Cheddar's" until now, so as to let them straighten out the kinks. Although somethings are still pretty good, other meals lack what this restaurant once was. I have found that the potato soup is still delicious but, my cup of soup was only half full. My Caesar salad had numerous pieces of romaine lettuce that was not fresh. My pieces of blackened salmon, was rather "gamy". My wife's chicken Alfredo pasta, was almost flavorless. With hardly any cheese taste. Another one of our dining companions had ordered a steak medium rare, but it came out medium and was a tough piece. Others in our party enjoyed there meals of meatloaf and Louisiana style pasta. On our last visit we had some chicken tenders that were way over breaded. So the point of this review is to say that new is not always better. Atmosphere: Very busy, we decided to eat at the bar rather than wait 40 mins. The interior is pretty nice, stone walls, and dim lighting. The overhead music was kind of annoying. Very clean, comfortable and busy. Food: The ribeye was good. Descent amount of seasoning and the flavor was...meh. For the price, though, the steak was great. They have homemade ranch dressing which I am a huge fan of homemade ranch at most places. The mashed potatoes were...meh. My wife thought the broccoli and corn were great. Also, I have had so many "Monte Cristo's" in my life and I have never had one that done! I think it was cooked way too long... Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen, and this is the first time that I have ever had an issue with one of these restaurants. That being said, my family and I will NEVER go back to the Largo/Clearwater location. We were a family of 4 and we got there around 4.30 pm on Saturday, March 1st. We ordered our drinks and an appetizer before we ordered our meal; when the appetizer came out our server sat it on the table and left. We soon realized that we didn't have any plates for the appetizer; when our server came back we asked for plates and her response was "I don't know if we have any." What?!? I thought maybe she misunderstood what I had said, but she did bring back plates. The restaurant was not busy at all, so it wasn't a matter of waiting for clean plates, I guess she truly didn't know if the restaurant had plates. Next came our food. My mom and I both ordered the chicken tenders platter, and my husband order the buffalo chicken tenders platter. It truly tasted like the chicken had been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour or so. The chicken was warm, at best, dry, and tough (not to mention the skin on the chicken made it even harder to eat). My husband ordered a Caesar salad as one of his sides and it came out with the meal, so his food was even cooler once he ate the salad. Normally, even a side salad, comes out before the meal.... I ordered a baked potato and corn for my two sides; the baked potato was cool enough that the butter did not melt completely, and the corn was actually floating in butter. Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of butter on my food, but this was a ridiculous amount! The other person at our table ordered the chicken pot pie, with green beans. He ended up putting the green beans into the pot pie because there weren't many veggies in the pot pie. We did not complain to the server, mainly because we didn't want the food to just be warmed up in a microwave. When she came back, we asked for boxes for the food (which we ended up throwing out once we got it home; we just couldn't bring ourselves to eat any more of it) and refills on my Pepsi/Coke, and my husbands UNSWEET ice tea (he absolutely hates sweet tea). Our server brought my husband back a SWEET tea. At this point, we were just ready to leave so he just left thirsty. We also had to wait for our server again, because she put all of our checks in as individual tickets, so we had to have her combine them; we were not going to run our credit card twice. Overall, the experience at this location was bad enough that we will not be going back. Hopefully I will be able to get my family to try another Cheddar's location in the future because I normally am a big fan, but it will definitely be a long time before we go again. read more

Dinner at Cheddar's was the kids idea- this is where they officially started dating, so it was appropriate to dine here the night before the nuptials! The only ding was the wait- we were quoted 20-25 minutes and it was 47 minutes. I actually popped in to make sure we weren't missed. Once we were in and seated- life was good! Drinks all around and those croissants- good gracious I forgot how good they are. Then the food arrived! Walking in, I liked the lowered lighting enhancing the modern minimalism in the room. A complete seating bar had its own adjoining room. I loved the buttery flavorful croissant they put on your table to enjoy upon being seated. Our server was polite, respectable, and quite helpful. I ordered the 6oz Top Sirloin, medium rare, with Buttered Corn off the Cob and Southern Green Beans. The steak was perfectly grilled with a flavorful rub (salt, pepper,and garlic salt based). I loved the Green Beans and the vuttered grilled corn. I must admit .. that meal was delicious! Four of us shared Cheddars Legendary Monster Cookie! Scratch-made chocolate chip cookie, baked to order, with vanilla bean ice cream, homemade hot fudge, whipped cream, chopped nuts and a cherry on top begging to be devoured! On Feb. 5th, My husband I went to Cheddars on Roosevelt Blvd, Clearwater Fl. We had been craving the Spinach Artichoke dip. Which is normally very good. Not this time. The dip was cold to the point the sour cream did not mix well. The chips were room temperature and stale. We thought this was just an off night as we have been to that particular location many times at the dip was always great!. We both ordered the 14 oz. Ribeye's. They looked and smelled delicious! Until we started eating them. I understand a well marbles steak is good for flavor and juiciness, but when you start cutting off fat and gristle and the meat just whittles away is another story. We paid nearly $20.00 for each steak and wound up with about half of it being fat and gristle. We also ordered "loaded" baked potatoes and got a smaller size potato with butter and sour cream. When I asked where the bacon bits, chives and shredded cheddar was, I was informed it was available, but it would be an "upcharge" of $1.99 per topping. Whenever we have ordered a loaded baked potato at any restaurant the mentioned items were part of the "loaded." I understand businesses are trying to re-coop their losses after being shut down because of Covid, but seriously? You want people to come back again and again and spend their hard-earned money on a treat for themselves by dining out, then don't nickel and dime them to death and make sure the food they are getting, especially Ribeye's are worth the price!
