I really wish I had been able to video this experience. We arrived on a Friday night, knowing that they have an all you can eat fish on Fridays. The first clue should've been that when we arrived at 6:30 PM, there were eight people in the restaurant. Now I have been to this location many times in the past, but not recently. We were seated near the opening to the kitchen, which was about 4 feet wide and about 5 feet from where I was so I could hear things going on. For example, "86 the noodles, they look nasty." We were waited on by a young, extremely inexperienced server I'll probably needed to shadow somebody for a little longer than he did. He asked if we wanted something to drink and we ordered two diet Pepsi's, he returned with them and wanted to know if we were ready to order. I told him we need a few minutes. 27 minutes later, I signal to the other server on the floor to please find where our server may have gone. He entered the kitchen area and called over to him, asking him if he forgot his customers. Meanwhile, the people at the next table were having their own issues. A table of three and one order was a breakfast dish, which apparently included pancakes that didn't get brought to the table. He may still be waiting. A man ordered a sandwich as a wrap and they brought it out on toast. He said I asked for a wrap and he was told that they don't have wraps. Well, it's on the menu! So a second server came over to help our inexperienced server and ask them if they wanted a tortilla or lettuce wrap." I want a tortilla wrap, "said the man. Well, 15 minutes later they brought out a lettuce wrap. So we weren't the only ones. When the young man came back to take our orders, we ordered a cod sandwich with fries and coleslaw, I ordered some green chili and I asked whether the AYCE fish or the fish n chips with cod was the better fish. He explained that the all you can eat fish had a special batter that they put on it and it was really the better fish so I ordered the all you can eat. About 15 minutes later, he came out to apologize and tell me that they ran out of batter for the all you could eat fish so I'd have to have the cod instead, but not all you can eat. And then he amazingly said that the cod was the better fish, the exact opposite of what he had told me less than an hour earlier. The fish wasn't bad, the "seasoned fries," didn't even have salt on them. And if you were looking for a freshly hand, cut fries, try another location. These were crinkle cut, obviously frozen, and tasteless.. Meanwhile, the people at the other table try for 30 minutes to get refills on their sodas to no avail. So when the check was placed down without comment, I looked at it and saw that I was still being charged for all you can eat. I called over the Young man and asked him if he could possibly fix that since I didn't get to eat that. "I think I can change it in my computer." Finally, we left and went upfront to pay and saw the 18% service fee. The cashier read me my total and a screen came up to ask me if I wanted to add an additional tip. Truthfully, I didn't want to pay any tip because it really wasn't deserved. But I know everybody can have a bad day and I'm afraid this young man may have a few coming up. But I do wish him well. I know it's a very difficult business, but it's not that hard when there's only eight people in the restaurant and there are two servers. I will say the restaurant was pretty clean, of course, when nobody comes in they can't make it very dirty can they? I thought about making this a one star, but the fish was OK. And I did have a bowl of green chili that was more of a soup but I did like the heat. But two stars is as far as I can go on this one. And the most telling thing of all, for a place known for their pies, not only that he asked us if we wanted a slice of pie, but the display case is upfront that can hold 30 pies had perhaps six in there. Ordered chicken pot pie, looked like green throw up in a bowl with a square pastry crust set on top and the crust had sugar on it, so gross. I sent it back and got a BLT. It was served with dry bread and bacon that was little pieces that fell off the sandwich when you picked it up. Had to ask for mayo to put on it even though they asked if I wanted it. Only saw our waiter, when he took our order but was forced to pay an 18% service fee no matter how your service was and had the nerve to ask for more. The 18% fee isn't posted anywhere, they sneak it in at the end. If I could give less than a 1 star, I would. It's a one and done for me. I will never go back there. We talked to the manager about this and she said we could complain to the owner but he won't care and won't do anything about it. read more

We went in the day after our second hurricane for breakfast. There was a fixed menu (scrambled eggs, toast, home fries with the choice of bacon, sausage links or sausage patties). Mostly Very Good, Great Staff We got two of the VIB Breakfasts where you pick what you want from various categories. It gave us a chance to try several different items. Better than usual: scrambled eggs, French toast (cooked through, yeah!), ham steak, coffee. Typical: English muffin, waffle, yogurt, biscuit. Not so good: bacon (very fatty and little meat), grits (OK consistency, but so bland). The restaurant is clean and bright. Our server was great. I'm not a fan of their 18% compulsory minimum tip, but they are very up front about it with a sign on the host's stand and verbally told by the hostess when we were seated. That advance notice is great and should be emulated by other restaurants that have a minimum tip policy. My only quibble is that they put the 18% on the tax and then also tax the tip. I feel that prices should just be raised and then tell people that there is no need to tip because the servers are getting a proper wage. read more

Since they renovated about eight years ago, this place has been much better than it once was. Our waitress Holly was excellent and offered different options for my family and had answers to all of our questions- we're not regulars obviously. This place is packed with families tonight - though we didn't have to wait - I'm surprised the rating is so low - it's a chain so that could be why ... It's Christmas morning, and my grandmother insists on stopping in at Village Inn "for pie." I wish that I had known that what she was after was a coconut cream pie. Between the poor service and then bland pie, I could have easily made one from scratch, just in time for dinner. Obviously it was busy, being Christmas morning. However, there is a designated pie counter, consisting of 2 cases of pies and 2 cashiers. Each cashier was tending to someone with no one else waiting. We got in line and waited our turn. The older woman waiting on us acted completely frazzled and annoyed with everyone around her, including us. My grandmother asked her for a coconut pie and she questioned whether she had preordered one online or not. My 80 year old grandmother looked at her like she was an alien. No, she had no clue such a thing was even possible. The woman gave a snotty response about having to go ask if she could sell her one but that she doubt that she could. She came back, pie in tow. But what appeared to be a waitress came up and began talking to her and then asked to use the cash point system. They chatted amongst themselves as the waitress used her computer, and while we waited. Even while she finally checked us out, she was rude. The topping on the pie is that the pie sucked. There is hardly even a hint of coconut flavoring to the pie and there's way more heavy, thick whipped cream topping than pie filling. Not a fan. read more

Had a good experience here on our recent trip to Florida. The food is what you would expect from any chain breakfast place; it was not spectacular, but it was pretty good. Their menu has a multitude of options and allowed everyone in our party to get something that they actually wanted (their customizable VIB is a great choice for a decent price). Our server was very kind, responsive, and knowledgeable about the menu. Food came out fast and hot. I had the Belgian waffle combo and thought the waffle was great. I definitely prefer the environment of this place to that of an iHop or Denny's, both of which always feel a bit depressing to me, to be honest. A group 9 of us went to the Village Inn, Walsingham Rd on Easter Sunday for an early dinner 4:00. What a nightmare. This restaurant seems to have been run by very young g people; at the hostess desk, the servers and everything in between, all of which were completely overwhelmed. The food came out lukewarm or even cool which ruined what could have been a decent plate for the money. Pie selection (which is what they are known for) was scant. At the end of the meal we waited and waited for checks which a few needed correction, then we waited and waited to pay at the register, again, with confusion on the part of the very young man at the register. I think there were a few managers there having a meeting and they were completely oblivious the the situation. Thankfully we had made reservations seeing our group consisted of 14 people. This place was slammed, due to it being "free slice of pie Wednesday." I ordered the chicken fried steak, with mashed potatoes, with lots of sausage gravy, and a buttermilk biscuit. For my side I had a cup of their vegetable beef soup, which was absolutely delicious! My meal was actually a generous portion of chicken fried steak, the outer edge of the steak was too well-done. The potatoes had an odd taste to it. It was really just OK. I went in expecting typical greasy spoon fare, but with warm friendly service. I wasnt disappointed with the food, but the service left something to be desired. Our waitress Mitzi was new, overwhelmed and borderline rude. Everything that came for the end of the table to my left was passed over me from the right. She set a Diet Coke down in front of me (which I had ordered), and I grabbed it and put my old straw in the new drink. She took my straw back out of the new cup, put it in my old cup and informed me I was being rude because that drink belonged to the person to my left. She smacked it down on the table and gave me a dirty look. The guy to my left wasn't offered a different drink. My replacement drink came .... Eventually. Complicated by a restaurant patron standing in the corner of the room shouting at the other patrons alternating that he loved us, wanted us to pay his check, and wanted one of the people in my party to make twins with him. I had 3 children with me, and my elderly mother. Not sure who he was speaking to. But it was loud and obnoxious and continued for maybe twenty minutes. Eventually he was escorted out by the police. But only after we went to the manager. Ultimately, reviews should be about the food. Which was unremarkable, uninspired, pedestrian and the least interesting part of the evening. We ordered chicken fried steak (tasty!), Mac n cheese (dried out, too little cheese over too much undercooked or extremely old pasta), fried fish (decent) and a 6 oz sirloin (adequate). The free pie was a nice touch. But not fantastic. At ~15/per person we could have gone anywhere else and at least had decent service. read more

Went looking for a good turkey dinner. Wrong. They took it off the menu. I ordered the pot roast. It was just okay. Very salty. It was free pie day. After getting home i looked at the bill and the price of the pie was not taken off the bill. I called and was told sometimes it doesn't take the pie off the bill. Breakfast is served all day. The VIB allows you to order any four items so you can mix and match at will. Food is always good. Lots of regulars to get to know. Fun atmosphere with 50s music. This was our first time coming here and I am very disappointed. We got seated right away, but it took 30 minutes and waving down a manger to even get drinks. We are now at the 45 minute mark and still no food, yet I've seen patrons who were seated and ordered after us get their food. Mind you, we ordered basic things like a cheese burger, grilled cheese, and a BLT. One of our orders was screwed up when we got it. My wife and I eat here most times when we come to FL for spring training. We went again this week. Their 55+ menu offered multiple meals with pie for dessert for $10,99. We both had roast turkey. It was very tasty. Our server Michael said it was his first day but we wouldn't have known if I hadn't asked him how long he had worked there. Service was great with no waiting. It was a good meal quickly served with a warm atmosphere. The pie [their specialty] was very good. We'll be back. read more

We decided to eat here later one evening. Lauren was our server and was very pleasant. It was a quiet night, only a few tables. Didn't initially realize our server was also our cook. She did an outstanding job with my adult grilled cheese and my husband's meatloaf. I don't think the average person realizes how much establishments are hurting for help since the pandemic. This young woman and one other young lady were responsible for this entire restaurant. And when we were ready to check out she was just as pleasant and positive in attitude as she was when she greeted us. She was brick cleaning the grill, so when I say she was responsible for everything, I mean everything. They are lucky to have you Lauren. This place has some delicious food but the service was awful when we went. We were immediately greeted and seated by the hostess who was super friendly and talked to us the entire way to our seats. We were given our menus and a few moments later our waitress came over to take our drink orders ... that's when it started to decline. The waitress then disappeared for a good 8 minutes at least, without coming back with our drinks when she finally came back with our drinks she said I'll be right back to give you guys more time to look at the menu and then disappeared again when she finally came back we ordered our food and we did not see her again until our food was delivered. The food itself was amazing and the flavors Blended very well, the egg white omelet was cooked to perfection and the cheese that was sprinkled on it was melted perfectly. The pancake side was a great amount for only a dollar more and you are able to put chocolate chips in it so they were delicious as well and the chocolate was melted and creamy. Our waitress then never showed up again until the very end of the meal to deliver the check and to give us boxes and we had to waive her down to get refills because she was getting ready to walk away the second she place down her check.
