Well, I finally made it after a long time coming. I've been wanting to try this place since they've opened and it finally happened today stopped in for lunch and a place smelled amazing as soon as I walked in! Servers were amazing and very attentive and the food was amazing. We were the first ones there for lunch, but that soon changed as the place filled up quickly. I was told the chef is from New Orleans and the flavor certainly agreed this will definitely be one of my spots when I'm in the area!

This is a nice sit down restaurant. Service is professional and friendly. Restaurant is clean and hip. I ordered the crawfish etoufee. It was good and rich . The crawfish were small and not recently caught. My wife had the gumbo that was tasty. The potato salad was amazing. The red beans and rice was great with rich flavors. They have craft beers.

What a terrific new restaurant on Osprey Avenue. Great menu with many different items. We had a Roast Beef Po-Boy and a Shrimp Po-Boy. Both were delicious. Service was spot on. Small area inside with counter service and tables. We will be back to try other menu items!

I'm always looking for a new delicious shrimp po'boy and have been eager to check out Lucky 8 since it opened a couple of months ago. A review in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune this week gave me the reminder I needed to come in and try theirs. It's quite simply amazing: nearly perfect: in fact, maybe even perfect! Let's start with the bread: slightly chewy, with a thin crispy crust. I don't think it's buttered or toasted but the texture and bite is absolutely excellent. (I hear it's baked locally.) The shrimps themselves are cooked exactly right. My server, Austin, told me they're marinated in Cajun spice before they are breaded. The spice is subtle but delicious, with a nice but gentle after-burn. They're also delectably salty--not a quality I typically notice in fried shrimp, but succulent here. The breading is thin, with a bit of crunch, but really tasty: I eagerly scooped up the crumps from my tray to eat them when the sandwich was gone. The roll has mayo on it (just enough) with shredded iceberg lettuce, fresh (plum?) tomatoes, and quite wonderful bread-and-butter style pickles. (Austin told me they are Nathan's brand.) The exquisite pickles raise the otherwise-traditionally-made sandwich to another level. I asked for hot sauce but ended up not using it: it might have interfered with an otherwise well-balanced whole. Po'boys are not usually served wrapped in paper or foil, but this one needs it, because otherwise the contents spill quickly out of the roll. The pickle spear on the side was a great accompaniment. (It's Schorr brand.) The Cole slaw I got as a side was nice and crunchy, with a slightly spicy mayo-based sauce that reminded me somewhat of Caesar dressing. The unsweetened iced tea was a nice accompaniment. The atmosphere on an an early Saturday afternoon was nice, with good-sounding modern jazz and a nice breeze coming in from the open front. It feels like a bar, but seems more food-centric...so let's call it a Nawlins-style tavern. (Beer and wine only.) I'll definitely be back to try the roast beef po'boy, the gumbo, and the crawfish ettouffe.

Drinks very reasonable and decent volume/quantity/pour. A buck for my soda water with lemon..... a bargain for the driver and non-drinker! The boss got 10 wings, 1/2 parm cheese and 1/2 barbecue. The reputation is best wings in Sarasota??? She like flats only and we paid $1 for just flats. This was a very nice option as I the whole food plant based "spartan vegan" will usually cringe at leaving those drums behind or wasted??? I did try one of each though. I believe they are baked and then before serving deep fried to crisp them up and heat them. Sadly the barbecued ones where burnt (see picture) and a little too crisped. The meat and most of the wing and the flavor was pretty good. 5/10 The parm wings where actually the opposite and the meat and wing undercooked, but the deep fry dunking crisped up the skin which would have been really raw and rubbery. These were also seasoned nicely and tasty. 8/10 Both easily fantastic with attention to pre-cooking and cooking? I got the Cup o' Spuds (sweet potato) in a little basket. These were pretty deeply fried and a few blackened/burnt but were nice and hot and flavorful and couple burned gave it some character and was a big deal. The menu is very limited for whole food plant based, vegetarian, vegan, nutritarian mix and match or anything....... so went with one of the three salads. the Side Salad I got an entree size. Romaine, diced tomatoes, cucumbers and black olives and a balsamic. My server missed my point after the second ask about adding "protein". I would have LOVED to have seen some black, pinto, kidney, navy, garbanzo, or any kind of BEANS to add to this salad as a "PROTEIN" or a quinoa, or even scoop of rice or edamame or even a few chunks of toasted or grilled tofu!!!! The salad ingredients were fresh and a nice amount of each. Dressing good but I only used a little since I thought I had asked for Balsamic Vinegar (no oil) and this was a Balsamic "Dressing" with actually quite a bit of oil. Service by "Nightime Bar B" was very attentive and friendly. REALLY good! Fielded our myriad of questions and we were never wanting or waiting. We had a long discussion about the wings which is why my wife wanted to go here. Maybe I should have put this first.......but the pricing was EXTREMELY reasonable especially for Main Street and I guess technically IN Season? The drinks about $12 for a Cosmo, Tito and club $10 ? Tax, tags, tip at 20% plus and we got out under $70 for two!!! VERY nice! Good spot. We will be back!!! As we have just about completed the Mainstreet and City of Sarasota circuit these guys are in the "rotation" for a before cabaret or full production play at the FST.

I ordered the Baja burrito--filled with avocado, red cabbage, carrot, cashew cheese, and wrapped in a massaged collard green burrito. It was tasty, but it's definitely a dish best appreciated by vegans who truly enjoy collard greens. My husband chose the goat cheese salad, a mix of organic greens, goat cheese mousse, pickled shallots, candied pecans, preserved grapes, house-made crackers, mustard pearls, and maple vinaigrette, also $18. The goat cheese was extremely creamy and paired beautifully with the light, airy toasted pieces served alongside. It made for the perfect light entrée. For dessert, he had the pumpkin chia pudding--creamy, lightly spiced, and satisfying without being heavy--so we ended the night feeling perfectly content, not overly full. There isn't anything I've tried here that has disappointed. Note that their hours of operation do change every so often so check on Google before visiting. I think my favorite of all the options is the Portobello mushroom melt. It does have a considerable amount of moisture from the tofu, portobello mushroom and spinach combination. I've learned it's best to have it at the restaurant and lifting the bread ever so slightly once your unwrap the sandwich so that it releases the extra heat before you enjoy it. It'll save you from a burn! I like asking for tempeh "bacon" or soy curls as add-ons depending on which item I'm ordering. Tempeh "bacon" works great on sandwiches and soy curls in the wraps. I also like their fried mushroom sandwich which is supposed to mimic a Chick-fil-A sandwich because it's satisfying but not heavy. Their brown sugar Oatmylk iced coffee was nice because it didn't taste sugary and I liked their iced tea option that was the very berry forward one. I was seated facing a wall so I didn't get a good long look at my surroundings but between what I did see and looking at photos posted on Yelp the theme seems to be chickens. Our server was friendly and available to answer any questions as we spent time looking over the menu. I settled on The Hitman, a double patty smashed burger with American cheese, hen sauce, fried mozzarella, Nueske's bacon, with a side of garlic parm fries. It isn't listed on the online menu but there is a note the menu changes frequently so it may not match the day's offering. Let me start by saying that two of the people at my table got salads and were disappointed that there was too much lettuce and too little other stuff. With that out of the way, let me talk about The Hitman, which I loved. What is Nueske bacon? This is a special smoked flavorful bacon made by the Nueske family. Fork & Hen uses thick cut, and there were two slices on my burger. My burger towered so high there was no hope of picking it up, so I attacked it with knife and fork. Being made with Focaccia bread certainly added to the height, but so did a thick block of mozzzrella cheese. The cheese, melted on the inside and crispy on the outside, was substantial. I would be careful biting into a hot block of melted cheese, think pizza mouth. In my photo I broke into one corner to show that is cheese, so much cheese. The burger patty part topped with American cheese was by itself great, like you might find at a home cookout or Smashburgers. Other toppings were there but for me this was meat and a lot of cheese. And as much bread as you want. I loved my surprising good cheeseburger.
