Not a good first impression. We were sat immediately, but in a booth that was more than worn out with a bench seat that you sunk into, the upholstery was torn on one side. Our server arrived promptly and we ordered drinks, from a very limited beer menu in a city that has huge numbers of breweries, and my husband couldn't have an Arnold Palmer because they didn't have lemonade, all day according to the server. There was trash, a wrapper from fake sugar and other detritus, on the floor in the dining area. We recieved chips, salsa, and queso free for signing up for something, lol, but even free, yes, not worth it. The first app came out with a French fry in the salsa and messily poured, lukewarm queso. The second one was slightly better and came with apologies from the server and manager. My chicken pot pie, presented all alone on a plate, with my side of off the cob corn was very good. The pastry was flaky and cooked well while the innards of the pie contained lots of very tasty, wonderfully cooked chicken, a not too thick sauce and tons of vegetables too. It was like homemade. Finally got around to trying this place after hearing a lot of hype about how good it was. This is a rare occasion because my expectations from yelp reviews were not met after I ate here. Really affordable menu. Most items are under 10 dollars and they have great drink prices, which, by the way, is the only thing saving this review from being at the bottom of the fish tank. As far as food quality....meh. It's alright I guess but not really what most people made it out to be. If you're an Applebee's or Chilis fan it might hit home. You would think that management would adequately staff this establishment to keep up with the the high volume of customers. It appears that wasn't the case. Service took forever and food was very slow to arrive. The kids portions were really small and cost 5 dollars, which I thought was expensive for the size. Had my 21st birthday dinner here & it was a pretty good choice! A group of friends & I came here on a very busy Thursday dinner rush. We had to wait 30min for our table but it wasn't too bad since we were waiting on other friends anyway. As soon as a booth opened up to fit our party of 8, they seated us down immediately. Believe it or not, 8 people can fit in a big booth w/ no problem at all. Tables and booths have solid, comfortable seating. Food & prices: Excellent! Ordered onion rings as an appetizer & they were amazing! Light batter, 2 dipping sauces (ranch & something with chipotle) and approximately 20 rings for $4.29. Hubby had shepherd's pie, beef & veggies in a sauce topped with mashed potatoes & very thin, toasted onion pieces. He loved it & took home half. Cost was $8.29 - a lot of food for that price. I had the veggie plate which came with a bowl of soup or salad & 4 sides. I chose the baked potato soup with cheddar and bacon on top -- YUM! It was a large bowlful & had great flavor. Considering that the veggie plate was $6.99, the size of the bowl of soup was surprising. I've had soup at other restaurants that came in a smaller bowl for the same price as my entire entrée here. My sides were mashed potatoes with cream gravy, carrots (sweet, cooked with brown sugar maybe?), steamed broccoli and coleslaw. It was all good and the coleslaw was excellent. A few bumps in service, as is expected at a new restaurant open less than 1 week. Friendly service and lots of management that is totally on top of their game and quick to handle any problems. I did what every ABQ foodie did and flocked to the new restaurant in town. I did the customary 40 minute weekend wait hoping for awesomeness. My finding? Alright. Not terribly "new". It's like a fancy Applebee's. I did enjoy my meal, as did my companion. But the place was packed, our waitress was stressed and if their was any sort of ambiance, I missed it in the crowd. Mike, the server was outstanding and did everything he could to make our visit a pleasant one. Corey the manager came to our table to apologize for the inconvenience which was greatly appreciated. The bar didn't have a working blender to make margaritas/piña coladas. This is our second time to Cheddars and the $200 blender hasn't been fixed/replaced. Our fríes were served cold and when they brought them the second time they put the fresh hot fries on top and the cold stale ones on the bottom. They also forgot to bring our appetizer (croissants) and when they brought them they were cold and hard. This place is so cheap and so good! No wonder it has fast become an ABQ favorite! I have come in on several occasions and have never left disappointed. My favorite meal, however, has been the Dijon Mustard Chicken with Mushrooms--it is absolutely delicious (if you like Mustard, of course!). The flavor is on point, and the price, well let's just say the price makes it all that much better! I have also ordered the Spasagna (a mix between Lasagna and Spaghetti). I was not a fan of it; too damn cheesy. Now, I love cheese and cheesiness but this was on a whole different level of cheese. It almost made me cheese sick! But if you love cheese, than I would say that this is the dish for you! The painkiller (Coconut/pineapple alcoholic beverage) is also pretty darn good! I will say, that the one I had was a bit on the stronger side and I left Cheddar's feeling a bit too happy for a Monday night. Regardless, I definitely recommend! Makes a nice picture but the hardened glaze that was un chewable and more like schards or 0f fish bones. Ribs should be saucy or at least have s bbq sauce side i atr three out of six.. The coconut shrimp were nothing special but the Pina Colada sauce is out of this world. The Corn off the cob was very heavy on the garlic. As a meal, would not order it ever again. I've been a longtime repeat customer of Cheddar's. I typically avoid chain restaurants in favor of mom and pop joints, but this is the exception. The food here is nothing wild, nothing you've never heard of before. It's almost entirely comfort food. But they do it very, very well, and consistently well. I've yet to have a bad meal here, and the portion sizes are huge. If you leave hungry, you done screwed up. Personal favorites: ribs, the chicken bacon sandwich, and the blackened salmon. Ribs are tender and properly messy without being greasy. Sandwich is always tender, never overdone. Salmon was astonishingly good, especially for a chain place in the middle of the far-from-liquid. The place can get a little crowded, especially during the lunch and dinner rushes. Suggest coming in the midafternoon. read more

Cheddars is a new spot...nice decor...significant wait time with inadequate seating around the front entrance...lots of folks standing everywhere (inside and out). Staff at the host/hostess stand are not too friendly - definitely a training opportunity for management. If we have to wait...can your employees be nice to us and make us feel welcome?? Just saying. At any rate, a large skylight lets in plenty of natural light in the dining area which adds a pleasant element. Will post an update after we try the food. read more

Tried out Cheddars today for lunch - first-time visit. It was OK, but it won't be a destination for dinner for us. We were seated immediately, despite it being the height of the lunch rush (approx. 12:20). The section where we were seated is woefully overcrowded. Not only are there booths down one half-wall, but there are six(!) tables crammed into a space for four or, max, five. The servers have trouble negotiating through the maze of chairs. Removing one table would make things much better, but I'm sure the management doesn't want to lose seating space for four. Our server was a little slow in getting to us and in getting our beverages (simple iced tea). It truly irritates me that iced tea isn't served with sufficient ICE; I always have to ask for a glass of ice, and I had to ask for a refill on my tea. Hubby ordered salad and half-sandwich; doesn't a club sandwich usually have a third slice of bread in the middle? His didn't, which leads me to believe that Cheddars has changed the "recipe" for a club. He wasn't unhappy, however; "Fewer carbs," he said. I ordered the cornmeal catfish with cole slaw and corn. The catfish (lunch portion) was yummy, as was the cole slaw. However, the corn was only lukewarm and tasted like it had just come out of the can and been poured into a warming dish. This entree really should have a piece of some sort of bread; a piece of grilled and buttered sourdough would be perfect. Hubby and I got out of there for under $20, before tip. The food was acceptable, but not outstanding--I agree with another review who calls it a clone of Chili's and Applebee's. Cheddars is, like the others, trying to be all things for all people - seafood, steaks, burgers, Italian (alfredo is Italian)---I wish they would try to concentrate on one or two things and do them very well, instead of doing everything just adequately. Could use a visit from Robert Irvine from Restaurant Impossible. The building is beautiful - lots of dark wood and mirrors and brick. But it sure could use some sound-deadening materials. The restaurant is loud and noisy. If I wanted loud and noisy, I'd go to Fuddrucker's. read more

First time visit to Cheddar's. My husband ordered the Country Fried Chicken a huge portion with no complaints. The Gluten Free menu had very few options, I ordered the ribs without sauce, it was okay, nothing compared to Texas Roadhouse. I ordered the famous Pain Killer drink (aka sugar buzz) I give it a five for presentation and a two for alcohol, it's fluff. I think the name sells, but the drink was not good too sugary with little rum, the bartender said they're pre-made. I ordered a top shelf margarita a better choice and made to order. Overall, we will return. The bar area is nice, we were quickly served, nice ambiance. Hopefully Cheddar's will expand their GF menu. Left with a $49 bill - two drinks, two beers, two plates. I've been here about four times now and the only thing I have to slightly say that's negative is that the service isn't always perfect, but for the most part it's still better than other places. This restaurant would be perfect for a first date or a dinner that's not too hurtful on the wallet as it's extremely fairly priced and has a wide range of food options. The interior is very nice inside so it doesn't look cheap at all. The alcohol only gets better: I haven't found a huge tasteful margarita anywhere else for that amazing price. Today we got the worst experience ever at Cheddar's. For more than 1/2 hr we waited outside their door for a text that never came when we realized that people were walking in way ahead of us. We decided to go in and question why we never got a text. Got seated at a small table with a yellow cone that said Danger at the front of it since the floor was wet and when I attempted to seat the floor was so wet that I almost slipped been disable. Once finally seated some place else Britney our waitress was extremely nice. When I mentioned the situation she told us she was going to talk to the manager. Michael (Asst Mgr) came to hear our story and said he was going to talk to his front crew to see what went wrong but never came back to let us know the outcome. If Cheddar 's does not have enough work force to take care of their customers in a proper manner they should close their doors until they do or perhaps change their policy and allow customers to make on line reservations to eliminate people having to wait for so long. The main dishes were very nice and good portions, especially for the price. Good flavor and good seasoning. The appetizers were nice, generous, and flavorful. The fish tacos each had two pieces of fish, you can cam have grilled or fried, i went fried with a chipotle mayo...It also came with a corn slaw and one side of preference. Mine was a loaded bake potato, which contained cheese and sour cream. I went with 9 other guests..most raved about the fried chicken. I took a few stars off due to a dish that had raw chicken. With one exception, our waitress this place was a complete bust. We were seated quickly and the waitress was great. However the food was not great at all. There were three of us. We ordered the Smokehouse burger completely over cooked and the fries were ice cold. Dijon Chicken was barely more than room temperature and the Key West Chicken wasn't much better. It was very disappointing. The waitress was also the bartender and was moving at warp speed to handle both jobs. She was great but the food was awful. Another hostess came to the table apologized & said the waitress will be right over. At 6:24 PM we finally got our drink order taken by Lisa the waitress. We asked for the manager again & still didnt receive the manager. We didn't feel welcome. We didn't receive compensation for our time. A sincere apology from the waitress would have been appreciated, for ignoring guests. Even a "hey sorry " from the manager would have been great. Our first time at this place & was very disappointed.
