My absolute fav take out place for lunch! Che thai is such a neighborhood gem when it comes to Thai food. Their service is always so nice and the food is made fresh to order. I love getting their lunch specials ranging from $10-$15 depending on what protein(s) you get with your noodles or rice. My go-to's are the chicken and tofu pad thai and the beef pad see-eiw as pictured. I usually get a side of rangoon, but their egg rolls are also delicious, fresh and crispy. I also find it kind of hard to come by good Thai iced tea in the area, but Che Thai always comes in clutch to satisfy my craving. Their drink isn't watered down or overly sweet like some other places, so I definitely enjoy coming here even if it's just for a drink! Che Thai has some great value options and my favorite is most likely their Drunken Noodle dish. We would stop in weekly for a time and the staff is always super friendly. The space itself is pretty small so the seating is pretty limited. We've always taken our orders to go and the food is still fresh by the time we get home. I wouldn't say the flavors are overly rich or complex, they are pretty tame compared to other options in city. Now, I wouldn't say that is necessarily a bad thing depending on what you are looking for. Everyone's palettes is different so don't skip over Che Thai especially at this price point. read more

I am definitely coming back and interested in trying more of the menu. Service was interesting as it seemed like it was in between a server and a self service. As the guy came to us to give us water and take our orders, but we filled our waters ourselves, there was no checking up on, and the check we had to go to the register. I am not complaining just giving more details and insight on the service. This place is also a bit small so if you are coming with a group larger than 5 or 6 it might be harder to fit everyone here. Needless to say, the food was still super hot when it came! Best price points for the amount of food you get! I swear I've been eating leftovers for days. I like that on most items you can choose your level of spicy. The ingredients used were fresh and light on the oil. I recommend the fried rice, pad Thai, the fried chicken wings, and spring roll. I travel to Thailand frequently and this restaurant reminds of trips to Bangkok for the great street food. I had Pad Thai with extra spice, my bride got the vegetarian and gluten-free option of the same. We both really liked the food. They even gave us a small free spring roll appetizer. Again very good food. But it was the happy helpful workers that really made our day. Both were native to Thailand and had the famous ever pleasant attitude and smiles. Since they have lived in. Chicago for years, no language barriers exist. But it was fun using my limited Thai to speak with them both. I struggled between leaving 2 or 3 stars here. I live close by, so I decided to try it. It's an eclectic little place with a walk up window to order or you can order on your phone. We ordered the veggie egg rolls, garlic black pepper beef, and the Nua Nom Tok which is a rib eye special. The meat on both dishes was very tough. The Nua Nom Tok had the oddest smell and taste of any Thai dish I've ever had. It was very spicy even though we ordered it with mild spicy, but the sauce was very strange. The garlic black pepper steak was just ok, but the meat was again very tough. The egg roll was the best thing we got. They only gave us one order of rice for the 2 entrees. The styrofoam cups for water are the smallest I've ever been given at a restaurant. The size of them reminded me of the small Dixie cups you get at a water jug at a dentist's office. I wanted to live this place - I walk passed it ever day - my favorite Thai food is Tac Quik a few blocks away - this place is closer - I thought I should try it as I order Thai food at least 3 times a month. Thom Ka soup was too spicy - a lot of jalapeño - not enough coconut flavor -?it tasted like ketchup soup - $8 I'll never spend again. Chicken satay was very good / chicken quality wonderful and plentiful - satay sauce - not enough of it but quite good. Eggplant dish was too spicy to enjoy - filled w about 40 slices of jalapeño - couldn't eat it. Pad se Eue was dry. And the beef was old and chewy / I only ate half of it - the quantity was huge but it just wasn't good. Tasteless and dry -and not enough noodles. Veggie egg rolls were really nice - you get like 8 small ones for 6$! I liked them .... I ate 2 then moved on to the rest of the feast .... And when I went back to them they were chewy - how did they get so old and not fresh in 10 minutes? They tasted like the frozen ones you buy at Jewel and warm up in the microwave. I was shocked / threw the 5 I hadn't eaten away. So $50 on a feast I overbought bc i wanted to have leftovers / i threw the leftover soup, egg rolls, eggplant, pad se eue out. I noticed they gave me a carton of white rice for free - i tasted that and it was hot and good. I don't eat white rice so sadly I threw that out as well. Some of the best I've ever had, and trust me, I've had a lot of crab rangoons in my life. Shumai soup: this fell a little bit flat. The Shumai were amazing and multiple in the container, but the broth just seemed like it was missing something. Still would get again though. Golden shrimp: this was good, but the breading was a bit heavier than anticipated. Shrimp tasted really fresh though Garlic Black Pepper with tofu: the sauce in this dish is to die for. At one point we were just spooning it onto the rice despite being super full. I love tofu and just wished the tofu had been marinated or had a little crispiness to it. Okay so I really like Thai food. There's just great spices and flavors that really excite the tastebuds. I ordered the Panang Curry and loved it. We got food to go and it was out within 15 minutes. The woman working the cashier was one of the most positive people I have ever met. She was extremely welcoming and full of energy. What I ordered: A Tom yum soup with noodles in the soup What I received: A minestrone soup with a separate full entree order of Che noodles While I was pretty clear in my order of a "Tom yum" soup with an add-on of noodles, I was charged for (and subsequently received) a full extra entree. The noodles thing might have been an honest misunderstanding -- While the cashier gave perfectly fine customer service, it was 86°F inside the restaurant and she was visibly sweaty and tired. I think she was overheating. If the heat was uncomfortable for me as a customer I can only imagine what the back of house feels like, standing right next to the deep fryers & stove! I'm pretty sure OSHA requires you to have a working A/C in order to have your business open... The crispy Che noodles are tasty enough, but the "Tom yum" is most definitely not actually a "Tom yum" soup. The beef in it is nicely tender, but the flavor of the rest is... Campbell's tomato vegetable soup. There's no hot nor sour anywhere here. I came here hungry and I am leaving disappointed. Neither of these are what I had hoped to receive. And the crab Rangoons were also a bit dark for my taste. I posted my review and mysteriously it was gone the following day. Assuming a computer glitch, I reposted it. The review disappeared again and I was blocked from reposting about Che Thai. I understand perfectly what happened now! It's sad that instead of the owner replying and refunding my money, they chose to delete the post and block me. Lastly, the cook knew the food was inedible and sent it anyway. Walking to my favorite Thai restaurant in the area (a little north' of here and across the street) saw this place and popped in for a bite. Well a Bite is all you get! My food came and I was wondering where's the rest of my order? I had the sautéed broccoli with chicken. The chicken was real tough and the broccoli was ok but scarce! Won't be back. Flavorful, consistent noodle dishes. The price is good and the portions are decent, but it won't make two full portions like a lot of Asian restaurants provide for a pad Thai/pad see ew. The ordering process on the website is a bit sketchy or convoluted but if you follow through, it's very easy to pick up on site. I haven't tried delivery. The atmosphere inside is a "hole in the wall" that you know is going to be good. Any concerns from ordering online are relieved once walking inside. The staff at the window were very friendly and prompt, already had my order at the counter. The best place in town for AUTHENTIC Thai food. I've had a lot of so called "Authentic" Thai food, which really was just glorified Chinese food labeled as Thai.
