I went in to have my bangs cut and she offered a trim little did I know she would thin out my hair to extreme. Its made me feel horrible because it looks that bad. Love my girls here! I always see Sonja as she was the first stylist I saw while visiting here. In the year since, I have also seen Claire and have had my gf visiting from away book with her as well a few times. Both women are amazing. They listen to your requests and are always the best ladies to chat with and make you feel at home. I just love this location. Never buy hair dryers or flat irons from here. If it doesn't work for you, they will not refund you. They also don't allow exchanges but they did allow it for me. However, I was still given no choice but to choose another hairdryer even though I preferred a refund. Second dryer was also not a good quality. Don't risk losing your money here. My friend and I walked-in Chatters Salon to get light highlights and a hair cut for BOTH OF US. My stylists poked fun of the stylist that did my hair 4 months ago (I thought she did a great job cause my hair looked fabulous). Apparently she zigzagged foil highlights, where my stylist suggested I do straight line foil highlights, which is the right way. My hair was blown by wind left and right before I walked into Chatters, and it was parted in opposite directions, my stylist didn't brush tangles, didn't ask which way I part my hair and just started from one ear to the other. And made the decision to only do the top part of my head (I paid for full head). By the time he was done, the foils were standing and falling out. it's hard to explain, I looked like a mess. usually I have seen foils lined up from the right side, left side, and the back. My friends stylist took her hair and colored the entire head RED because she didn't understand what my friend wanted due to language barrier.The Russian lady couldn't explain what she was doing and where was she going it all. My friend thought the stylist was applying a toner on her hair to lighten her hair using a different method After the wash, my friend was so pissed and she cried. Her stylist kept trying to blame my friend for her hair. I paid in advance because it was my friend's birthday and wanted to surprise her. We couldn't get a refund. As an apology they gave us a shampoo bottle and a nail polish. I don't recommend this location at all. We went there because we recognized the name Chatters, I've been to Chatters at other places and received good service. read more

For me, haircuts are a bit of a sensitive subject. Ahem. My mother cut my hair until I was around 15 years of age. Yes, I know... For shame. I then hit a moment in my young adolescence where I was forced to find a replacement. I've gotta say, though, that my mom did a damn good job and that it's been hard to move on. I feel like I've been searching for years for the perfect stylist. I'm still searching, actually. But now, in my mid-to-late-twenties, I've become a fairly regular patron of Chatters salons. In particular, I seem to have had the best luck at this particular joint in Kingsway Mall. Sure, I've paid $60 or $70 for a cuts at boutique places, and they've been extravagant. I've also paid peanuts at other places, and they've been OK too. But Chatters seems to be consistently great, and the price can't be beat. I usually call ahead of time, and I seem to have someone different nearly every time. Sometimes they're chatty stylists, telling me that they're in-between salons, or that they've just moved to town and are still scoping things out. Other times they're quiet and focused, and I'm OK with that. I usually tip generously, given how cheap the rates are to begin with, and I'm always back in a few months. I've been meaning to leave a review for a while now, but this past Friday she did such an beautiful job on my daughter's hair for her grad, I couldn't put it off any longer. Worst experiences ever! I booked my appointment ahead of time. I get there and am forced to wait over 1/2 hr for the hair dresser. They change the hair dresser I was supposed to see. I went in for a simple hair cut. He was very rough on my hair pulling it, and just being very rough on it. Very quick rush job washing it. While he let the conditioner soak in he went out for a smoke break. Came back and he was huffing and puffing all over me. I'm no smoker this was absolutely the worst hair cut I've ever received. Horrible salon; low quality staff and customer service. First of all, got my haircut here once and it was the worst haircut I've ever had. An older lady did it and thinned out my hair so much. She went crazy with the thinning shears and I ended up with less than half the hair I walked in with. What's worse than that, is the customer service or lack thereof. They are so nickle and dime-y. I understand that you have to honor store policies, but I also believe there should be exceptions made where suitable. Especially for repeat customers who spend lots of money in your salon on products. They recommended two clarifying shampoos to me, both which were awful. I used up most of the shampoo the day I bought it because the buildup wouldn't come out from the last shampoo. They refused to allow me to exchange it for another one because it was "less than 3/4 full". YOU recommended it to me, and it was the next day. After countless bad experiences with the staff here, I will never spend a dime here again. Ever. Also, the girl with the blue hair is extremely rude and stares at you. Just uncomfortable. I needed a hair cut last minute and decided to try the Chatters in Kingsway mall. I had never been there, but it was conveniently open on Sunday and in my vicinity. I was really happy they could fit me in on short notice! When I showed up to my appointment, I didn't have to wait long before I was greeted by my hair dresser, Melissa. She was friendly and did an amazing job on my hair! She did exactly what I requested and gave me a few tips for everything I asked about. I decided last minute to get my hair cut and was having a hard time choosing a place in Kingsway but my friend recommended Chatters. I walked in, the receptionist said it would be a 15-20 minute wait and if I wanted I could leave my number and he would call me when it was time. 15 mins of shopping later, I get a call! I like that they did that so I didn't have to sit there and wait. I don't remember my hair stylist's name but she had short blondish hair. She was very nice, asked me what I wanted and went to work. I told her I wanted a trim and a little bit of layers so she took my hair and asked me if that (~2 inches) was what I wanted off. She then straightened my hair and proceeded to suggest that I don't get layers if I wanted to keep a good amount of length since my hair was thin near the bottom (bad job of thinning my hair at my last cut). She still gave me the options of layers but warned me it would be extremely thin (so not very nice), I love that she did this because I would have been devastated to have extremely thin hair. She then proceeded to cut my hair and I was very happy with the outcome. Everyone has said that my hair doesn't look different except for the fact that my ends look way better now. Asking for layers was a last minute decision but I went in to get my end cuts and that's exactly what I got. My cut was less than $50 (before tip) and the service (from both stylist and receptionist) was great so I will definitely be back! read more

I recently went to the Chatters in Kingsway Mall to get a price adjustment on a hair straightener I had purchased from Chatters St Albert. For some reason the sticker price was not what was in the computer and I was overcharged. I obviously brought my receipt with me. I was promptly told by the Kingsway location staff that they would not be able to refund the money and that I would have to go to St Albert, really inconvenient for me. They did say that if I wanted to I could buy the same appliance at their store at their price and then go back to the St Albert Chatters to return the other one and get a full refund... I came here a few years ago (when I first moved to Edmonton) and didn't know where else to go. I got in and had Donna (polish) matched to do my long overdue highlights. I have two kids, and two jobs and maybe can get in to do my highlights twice a year (if I'm lucky) I go in with ratty ends and inches of dark roots and come out looking like a blonde superstar. She blends it perfectly and I have yet to be disappointed in her service. I'm so happy I came in to this location that day, and I will continue to be back. This woman knows her foils, to this day she is the best stylist I've ever seen (and I've seen my fair share - especially in my younger days)! I just had another visit yesterday for full head and cut. I have (or had) quite long hair, a little over halfway down my back. I just wanted my hair shampooed and dried because I didn't particularly feel like doing it that day. I was going to see my regular stylist in St. Albert a few weeks later for a cut and colour, but they convinced me to let them trim the ends and shape my hair a bit since it was just 10 dollars extra. I was asked if I wanted the ends to look more wispy or blunt. I wanted them a bit more wispy as it looks more natural. The scissors came out, and chunks of hair (3-4 inches in some places) started to fly. I couldn't help but feel like I was on an assembly line. The job felt rushed (which is probably due to pressure from management) and my hair looks like it was basically just cut straight across in the back, like when your mom cuts your hair when you're a kid. The ends are very blunt and look completely unnatural. Now I'm going to have to get my regular hair dresser to cut even more off to make it look normal again. This being said, she did a wonderful job on my side bangs. Hindsight is 20/20 but I should have known not to let someone at a chain salon in a mall "trim" my hair. I should have stuck with just a wash and blow dry. Learned my lesson. read more

Absolutely terrible. The worst place I've ever been too. I went on the lighter side and wanted a trim. I'm 19 and she gave me pretty much white highlights so now some of my hair looks grey... Awesome.....(not), and she pulled the crap out of my hair where I was almost in tears. It felt like my scalp was on fire, she kept tugging and scratching my head so hard while she was rinsing my hair out. Then don't even get me started on the cut. She did the trim that was a quick 1 minute snip snap whatever because she had another client waiting so now my hair has chopped pieces all over. And all of it was 220$... Are you kidding me. Don't even know the hairdressers name there but she was younger, go find some place else to get your hair done. Anywhere really! read more

I have to say that emailing the head office of Chatters about my awful hair experience and being put onto their Customer service dept. was useless! Customer service said that I would be hearing from the franchisee of Chatters at Kingsway (the Manager.) the manager did call me. I missed his call...I called back and he will not be in until Monday. All I want is to be reimbursed for a service that went wrong. I do not want to talk about it! I want to be compinsated for having half of my hair chopped off. I hope Chatters understands that Customer service does not mean someone being bounced around to 3 different people. It is simple... you cut half of the hair off that you spiral curled. After a very poor haircut I had gotten at The Cut Above in Kingsway, I went to chatters for a consult. They sat me down right away and gave me a proper haircut. The lady that fixed up my hair was amazing. I would definitely go back. The only thing I was disappointed in was the $52 price. If I had realized that it would be that much to fix my hair I would have went somewhere else. So I ended up spending $90 on two haircuts. But I would definitely recommend this place! read more

I took a chance and went to this chatters location as next to no salons are open on a Monday. I called ahead to ask about prices for highlights and a trim and the gentleman on the phone was very thorough and polite. and lucky me they had an opening today! Upon arriving I was greeted by two gentleman that stayed behind the front counter and just told me to sit down. I think offering to hang up my jacket or offering me a drink would have been a tad more professional considering the amount of money I was about to spend and hours there. But I sat down and patiently waited. My stylist was Lidia, she was a very kind and sweet lady. I started to explain what I was looking for and showed her a picture as well. She seemed a little confused at first which made me nervous but was adamant that she wanted to fully understand so it would be perfect. I saw her go into the back to mix the color and was talking to the other stylist about my color choices which again made me very nervous. I am super picky about my hair and every time I get it done anywhere I can be a little difficult in deciding and explaining but she never showed it. She was wonderful, didn't drag on pointless conversation and let me sit there quietly and relax which I like. When it came to the trim she just seemed to know exactly what to do with very little input from me. In the end my hair looked awesome. It wasn't an easy color combo I had asked for and she made it look natural. All that worry for nothing! Upon checking out it came to the same amount as they had quoted me over the phone so there were no surprises and since I got a color job I got a complimentary gift, a bottle of shampoo for color treated hair. So after all that I would definitely recommend Lidia. She's wonderful and will work hard to make sure you love your hair read more

After posting my story about a defective flat iron I purchased at the Kingsway Chatters salon and their poor customer service, I was contacted by Chatters head office and was promised they would replace the iron. The store contacted me the same day and invited me to come in to pick up a new flat iron. Although the initial situation was frustrating, I'm very pleased they've resolved the situation. This location is the worst place I have gone to to get my hair cut. I went in September 2014. I went there previously to get my bangs cut and I was happy with the service. So I decided I should go back to get my hair cut. Big mistake. The stylist didn't cut my hair properly so I called the manager and got a complimentary redo with the stylist who originally cut my bangs. I thought she was competent and could fix my hair. I was wrong. I guess because she was doing this for free she didn't care. She totally ruined my hair. I told her she just made it worse. My bangs were way too short and took months to grow out. She told me "Sometimes you just have to trust your stylist" and "Everyone has a different hair line". I was so upset I started yelling at her and then she told me to book another appointment. I told her I would never be coming back to Chatters. I also told the manager. They didn't seem to care and didn't say sorry for my horrible experience. It's a shame because I used to love shopping at Chatters for all of my hair care products. I literally have not bought a single product or have had a service there since this happened. Also I had written a review about 3 different times on yelp and they have all somehow been deleted. Do yourselves a favour and don't go here to get your hair cut. read more

I went here to get my eyebrows tinted & waxed. I got an Irish lady and she did AWFUL, the tint left black dots in my eyebrows, she did not use the proper material. Not only that, she told me to go home & get the dots out myself! If I'm paying why should I go home to do anything? it has been 2 days since this & under my eyebrow is dry & hurts extremely. When I asked for my money back they gave me $15 out of the $30 I payed even though I had to go to Mac right after to get the tint REMOVED. I talked to many people & all agreed this was the worse job on eyebrows they had seen. My eyebrows look TERRIBLE and there hard to fill in now, she completely screwed them up. Not to mention this was my FIRST time letting anyone do my eyebrows! Super pissed! Will never come back nor recommend to anyone, horrible service as soon as I complained. read more

Have been seeing Manuella off and on for a few years.( and my experiences prior to this one have been great) Have been growing my hair out for the last three months.... Went in for a shape up. WOW,,, explained i wanted to leave the length.... ( that is gone) after the cut, she started to blow dry my hair after I said I don't like my hair being blowed dried.. which i was told they had to... /during this time i told I did not like what she had done to my hair.. instead of offeriing to fix it gabbed a pair of thinning shears and took out chunks of my hair with a huge frown.. needless to say my hair is butchered... my husband said this is the worse haircut he has seen on me in our 24 year relationship. Went to another beauty salon yesterday and was told basically i am going to have to start from scratch to fix it ... plus i get to pay someone else.. Called the owner Ed to tell him about this experience he could not care at all. Nothing was offered in refund... a fix anything.... So all i have to say is Manuella i don't know what happened to your desire to cut hair but if you hate your job that much perhaps it is time to quit,, what you did to my hair would not even pass at a dog groomers. absolutely terrible. i told the hairdresser multiple times what i wanted, all she did was make it shorter. when i asked to thin it out more she just said that she already shortened it and that because i wasn't happy with that she wouldn't do anything else. she called me a difficult client and told me i didn't know what i wanted. finally she threw a bunch of gel in my hair, gave me a comb and told me to do whatever i wanted. i ended up actually paying because she was old and scary. never ever ever again. read more

I've been to this salon three times and have seen two different girls . After moving to Edmonton I was weary about getting my hair done by anyone new but my mom heard good reviews and made an appointment for me here as a birthday present. It was a great choice on her part! The service is great from the front desk staff to the stylists themselves. My last visit was to get all over highlights which considering how long and thick my hair is (I didn't tell them this in advance, probably should have lol) took about 3 hours! This was my first time with this stylist but she didn't get annoyed or frustrated at all that I had so much hair to deal with and she gave me great ideas on what color choices and cuts would look great on me if I wanted to change up my look in the future. I'm not a huge talker when getting my hair done so I appreciated that she was pretty quiet and let me relax. Overall, an awesome experience every time I visit! read more

By far the worse service I have ever received. I came into the store for my appointment and was greeted by a somewhat friendly man. I continued to introduce myself and explain what I wanted done, he was no help. I then had to wait 10 minutes for my "stylist" to show up to work. I don't know her name, but she seem like she had an accent and a hard time explaining herself in English. After trying to explain what I wanted done, she looked at me like I was an idiot. I have 4 years of cosmetology training from school, so I know what I'm talking about and the steps on how to do it. I was greatly offended. This is where it gets good, after the confused "stylist" asked every other stylist on how she should start a simple bleach they decided to do a test foil to see how my hair would react. Usually when you get a test foil done, they keep the hair on your head. But not this time, she continued to cut a chunk of my hair off. That's the point where I walked out and went to spastation. Ive came to Chatters quite a few times now and had good results but lately I havent been impressed and this time Im more upset than Ive ever been. I payed close to $200 to highlight my hair and when it was finished it looked the exact same as before except I had a chunk of black underneath . It looked nothing like the picture I showed the lady . When the she was done it was clear that I wasnt happy , I kept explaining to her that I didnt like the black part cause she didnt blend it in with the other colours good so to fix it she thinned out my hair waaay to much when I didnt want to thin it out in the first place . After that she kept insisting that it looked beautiful so finally I said okay . When I left all my friends said "I thought you were getting your hair done" I said I did and showed them how it was 'suppose' to look like. No one was impressed by how my hair turned out including me . I spent way to much money to come out looking the exact same . I dyed it cause I didnt like how it looked in the first place and wanted something new . Now I'll have to spend more money to fry & re-dye . On top of that I bought a straightener last year . I seen one I liked for $200 and the guy insisted that I buy this other one that was $100 saying it was the best . Ive always taken very good care of my straighteners and this one is already burning out on me . Ive had $30 Walmart straighteners that last longer than that ... read more
