Chatham's generally a pleasant sleepy downtown next town over from me in Summit. Well, except for one bad place down the street from Chatham Bagels (see my other reviews) but this little hole in the wall (pun intended) had a line out the door as I drove by on Memorial Day and a line means fine. Rainy miserable day today so since I had a rainy miserable ten hour work session at home day ahead, I stopped by. Now I'm not some bagel aficionado but one lady next to me on line who looked like she knew from bagels. She cheerfully regaled the weary line by raving she can't find any good bagels in Connecticut so when she's in Chatham town, she loads up on these. True to her word, she left with a sack of 'em. She had also ordered ahead but waited in line anyway - polite is fantastic. Guy next to her on line engaged her about Fairfield Connecticut where his son went to college. He crowed in a friendly way that his son encountered "like minded people" at the local college m and that was soon followed by mentioning Wall Street jobs and his son's "sugar momma". Why do I mention the on-line patter banter? Because it illustrated how Chatham types are generally convivial so I'd expect no less friendly chit chat if you go to Chstham Bagels and if you happen to be "like minded", of course. Blabbing passed the time while the two quiet Chatham Bagel men were working their tails off cranking out all orders fresh. Lastly? I just finished my bagel sandwich and pretty darn good! And just maybe enjoying the morning magic of preparing and enjoying good bagels makes everyone like minded here! read more

Local shop with a decent bagel for sandwiches. We ordered a bagel sandwich with cream cheese, and a few plain and egg. The bagels had some crisp on the bottom where it had browned but almost none on the top. The dough has a welcome bit of flavor to it, as if they use just enough salt in the recipe to elevate the bready taste. This is a fluffy-style bagel but it has slightly more structure than others in the category, so it has a slight edge when making sandwiches. The cream cheese was light and smooth, so complemented it well. read more

Stopped for a couple bagels and was pleasantly surprised with how big and delicious these bagels were. They had the perfect crunch on the outside while being warm and soft on the inside. This is your typical bagel shop. They had seating outside which was really nice and perfect for a spring day. Service was typical of a bagel shop, and they got the order right which is always a plus. I got a bacon, cheese on a plain bagel with ketchup and pepper. The bagel was good and the bacon was cooked well. I wish the cheese was melted on the bacon. This would have brought them to five stars. The person I went with got a breakfast burrito with eggs and potatoes which they really enjoyed. If I was in the area, I would go back here for a quick bite. read more

My family and I were staying in nearby short hills for a family wedding and discovered this place. Omg the bagels are delicious. I love egg bagels and they even had an egg everything bagel which I never had tried. Phenomenal. I ordered breakfast sandwiches 3 days in a row for our family and friends. So I decided to stop in and get a bagel and cream cheese. I couldn't really see what was in the bagel bins since the workers were in front of them. I looked at the list of bagels on their sign and decided to go with an asiago bagel. "No more" said the older gentleman behind the counter. I went back to the list, and asked for a sun-dried tomato bagel. "No more - those are all the good ones" said the same guy. Then he laughed and said it was great. I assume he meant that they were doing so well that they were selling out of the good ones. It really made it seem he was laughing at me because I was running out of options for my bagel - every one I wanted was sold out by around 9:00am. Either way, if you run out of the good ones, you are not very good at your business. Make more next time instead of pissing off (and laughing at) your customers. I went to Noah's. Yeah my boyfriend mentioned this place after I suggested we grab morning bagels. I came in around 7 am and grabbed two taylor ham/pork roll, egg and cheeses on everything bagels. The bagels were delicious and the egg and ham were cooked well. Really enjoyed my breakfast bagel! Only down side, it was a bit on the pricier side compared to other bagel shops I've been to. Overall - good breakfast and would return back for more. Didn't get a full chance to explore the whole menu, but I look forward to doing so in the near future. read more

Went for breakfast this past Saturday. Took home the best everything bagel topped with white fish salad, lox, tomato, red onion, Swiss cheese & cream cheese spread. Bagel was so fresh, and the white fish salad absolutely delicious. It's a very busy shop, but the staff is wonderful, even when they're running around. The owners are lovely people and it shows how much they care for the customers. I'll be back this weekend for another delicious breakfast. read more

I was skeptical about another bagel spot in the Morris County area. I must admit, this place impressed me. Solid, hot bagels - they're taylor ham is quality! The bagels aren't overly doughy. They carry a few different types of cream cheeses and of course offer deli sandwiches. Friendly, quick service - they are personable. 1 small table inside. Small and it's not an eat in spot. Was in the area to pick up a friend and was very hungry. I decided to research some bagel shops in the area and Chatham Bagles had the best reviews and I see why. The food was fantastic. Cooked to perfection. And to make things better, their ice coffee was self serve which I love because no one ever makes my coffee the way I ask. The service is why I rated them 4 stars because they didn't seem very happy. A smile at 8:30 in the morning would have made a difference. For a bagel shop they were very disheveled. The guy kept just throwing all the bagels in the top shelf together no separating. It took over 20 minutes just to get a bagel with cream cheese. The mark up is INSANE for a bagel shop. $5 for a bagel with cream cheese the guy behind the counter didn't know how to return change. Went to the Chatham Bagel Shop at around 11 hoping to get a nice little lunch for midday. As I walked in, the first thing I noticed was a weird smell coming from the counter. Not sure if this is my own nose, but it seemed to me that the gentleman in the apron who barely spoke English reeked of onions and cheese. I understand that working in a kitchen is a difficult job, one that requires many physical abilities. HOWEVER, I do believe that the employees should be held to a HIGHER standard of cleanliness. It just seemed to me that this gentleman did not care whether he smelled or not. Anyways, as I made my order, the man behind the counter was very short-tempered with me, and did not seem friendly. Combined with his lack of English skills, this made for a very difficult transaction. And I should add that all I was ordering was a buttered bagel. Though despite this small order, he charged me $10. Are you kidding me?!?!?!?! When I asked him why the price was so high, he yelled at me about how that's what things cost. I politely asked him multiple times to stop yelling at me, and promptly paid for my bagel. The problem seemed to only be with this man, since the older gentleman in the back and the young man in front were nice to me. This makes me wonder why the man serving me had such a different tone and attitude about him. read more

I bought a buttered bagel twice and they were both good. The first time it was hot out of the oven and didn't need to be toasted. But the coffee service needs better attention. Both times they were out of hazelnut coffee. And both times they ran out of half & half. Last time I was able to make it up with whole milk, but this time they ran out of milk too. I don't think I will buy coffee there again. They are right next door to a coffee house and I'll try them next time. A friend from Chatham brought me a few of these bagels when she visited me in Pittsburgh and I have been obsessing ever since! Yesterday I made a special trip out to NJ to buy a couple dozen. When you were used to delicious bagels and relocate to a bagel void a bagel road trip is totally normal! Their bagels are big and chewy on the inside with a perfect crust. You can eat them without anything even on them (I did). I individually wrap them and pop them in the freezer to make them last. And on top of their amazing bagels the people who work there are lovely. Oh, grab some TempTee cream cheese on your way out too. That can also only be found in the NYC area. Enjoy! read more

So I get a bagel legit every morning. This place is a little closer to me then new Providence place so I go back and forth each morning. Today I got 3 bagels with CC, 1 Bagel with butter, and an Orange Juice for a group of people...Guess how much? $31 The guy did not touch the cash register when ringing me up and instead added it in his head to come to that total. I walked out without noticing and walked back in 3 seconds later after my GF told me they had to have made a mistake. So I tell the guy "You charged me $31 for 4 bagels and an orange juice." The guy says it's right and told me it's $5 per CC bagel, more for flavored CC, and $4 per Butter bagel. I said that's absolutely wild AND it still doesn't add up to $31. He said I don't know what to tell you buddy and ignored me. I'm not cheap. I didnt even notice the cost I was paying every morning when I came here for 1 bagel and a coffee. It wasn't until I bought multiple bagels that I noticed the craziness. They are quite literally TWICE the price for a slightly inferior bagel compared to Bagel Cafe. There are a half dozen other bagel places 5 minutes from here too. If you don't ever go here cause of this review, that's a good thing. But for myself and this place...they just lost a $50+ a week customer for bagels and coffee every morning. Also, the jalapeño cream cheese sucks here. read more
