The perfect martini at a spacious table
Deana B.

Soooo good. We loved everything we tried here, starting with the martini cart of course. One of the best martinis I ever had. If you love butter, this is your spot. All of the sauces are so decadent and buttery, it was my dream. There were four of us so we were able to try most of the the menu. We had the blue prawns, scallops, artichoke, escargots, sable, filet au poivre, and duck. All hits, no misses. We even ordered a second filet. This is a great spot for a date, dinner with parents or a night out with friends. Tables in the dining room are spacious and not on top of each other which is a rarity in this city. Would absolutely recommend!

Food:4 Ambience:4.5 Service:4 Arrived on 5:30pm on a rainy tuesday to a pretty empty restaurant. Ambience was dark and sexy. Patrons started trickling in around 6:30 and by 7pm it was filling up and we were told we had 15 minutes before having to turn our tables over. We just ordered dessert. We did indicate that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and it would have been nice not to be rushed. Food wise: escargot was amazing, foisgras was delicious and so were the frites. The hot dog was a bit flat imo, but was highly recommended by the server. For red desert, we order a crème brûlée and it was way too sweet for french desserts.

This place has some truly amazing food, and might be the greatest brunch secret in the village. At brunch the vibes are maybe not what they are at dinner, but the service is still good, if perhaps a little more absent than expected, but fun and really helpful. They should have the martini cart at brunch, or maybe turn it into an espresso martini cart because their espresso martini is fire! Lobster Croque was one of my favorite dishes with just amazing flavor abounding. The endive salad with anchovies was so flavorful and tasty, and the steak frites was so good. The frites might be some of my favorites in Manhattan. I think they're done in duck fat - and the sauces are just stellar. Le Club was good, but not great, and the duck benedict could have been juicier. You must get the pancake souffle if you come for brunch. It is just so good and can't be easy to make at home. Drink to your heart's content because each drink here is really quite good. We'll be back for dinner.

I am not a huge fan of Libertine so I was not particularly hopeful heading to Chateau Royale, but it is fabulous. The remodel is beautiful, the service is gracious and friendly and it is a genuinely fun atmosphere. The cocktails (and wine list) are terrific. The food is delicious. While not a huge menu, it is a terrific menu and I need to go back to eat everything I didn't get to have the first time. It is going to be a huge success.

Chateau Royale was simultaneously unpretentious, elevated, and a masterclass in service. A recurring theme in the meal was deceptive simplicity - well-known favorites, executed flawlessly. This is a review for the dining room. Overall - 4.9/5.0 Stars Food - 4.6 Stars - Chateau Martini - 5.0 Stars - Ordered vodka + extra dirty, perfectly ice-cold, umami-rich martini. Served tableside by cart. - Oysters & Normandy Cidre Mignonette (Cape Cod) - 4.0 Stars - Crisp, briny, and fresh, if a bit on the small side. - Escargots Bourguignon - 4.5 Stars - Served sizzling, with garlic butter, herbs, and a roll for dipping. - Duck à l'Orange - 4.5 Stars - Deceptively simple, crispy skin and cooked to the proper temperature. - Lobster Thermidor - 5.0 Stars - Stab-and-eat Thermidor-style. Approachable yet expertly delivered, perfect temperature and creamy garlic-butter richness. - Pommes Frites - 4.0 Stars - Hearty and plentiful french fries, could be crispier. I'd personally prefer straight mayonnaise (French style) + ketchup over the tartar dipping sauce. - Crème Brûlée - 4.5 Stars - We were stuffed but went for it with encouragement glad we did. Generous portion, expertly torched, and we were graciously comped two dessert wines. Service - 5.0 Stars By the end of our meal we'd struck congenial rapport with 3-4 team members. Every want felt pre-empted and intuitively met. Highly professional, extraordinarily friendly, and attentive from start to finish. Silverware was meticulously placed between good-natured ribbing about escaping from our kids for date night. I can't say enough positive things about how effortless, friendly, and professional every member of the staff was. Special shout-out to the gentleman serving our martinis for his hilarious demeanor and enthusiastic encouragement when we were deciding whether to order dessert and more drinks. Thank you guys for making an otherwise typical Thursday date night feel like a dinner on our honeymoon. Ambiance - 5.0 Stars As an extension of the exceptional service, we were (unprompted) offered a move from a central 4-top to a 2-top booth along the wall. The first table was a 4.5 but the booth was a 5.0. Lovely playlist, cozy lighting, smartly dressed clientele of all ages, and a lively bar room on the ground floor. Would love to come back to try the bleu cheese burger. Thank you Chateau Royale. We will be back.

Chateau Royale may be one of the most elegant and beautiful restaurants I've been to this year. It's located in a two floor townhouse. There's the main dining room upstairs and the bar room downstairs, both beautiful in their own right, with the former being open and airy while the latter, more moody. They have two different menus but there are overlapping dishes. I came on opening night Tuesday, and dined in the main dining room. What an experience! The servers were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I particularly liked the bartender who was in charge of the cocktail cart. I had two Chateau Martinis [$23 each], they were ICE COLD and absolutely delicious. They also packed a punch, so make sure you have a substantial meal. The food is really outstanding, my favorites include the foie gras [$25], the chicken cordon bleu [$39], and the desserts [$15]: the chocolate cake and the lemon tart. The foie is creamy and delicious, I especially enjoyed the buttery toast points they are served with. The chicken cordon bleu reminds me of my childhood and the terrible version my mother tried to make [nostalgia!], except here it is outstanding. The breading on the outside is super crispy, while the chicken, ham, and gruyere cheese are especially moist. Just look how the cheese oozes out when you cut into it. The desserts are a wonderful finisher. The chocolate cake is ooey gooey while the lemon tart is just right. They are average in size so you could definitely get more than one dessert to share. An honorable mention should go to the complimentary bread and butter and the buttery piece of brioche/croissant that accompanies the escargot [$24], it's incredible for dipping into the garlic oil butter leftover from the dish. I truly can't wait to come back and try the downstairs menu, especially the burger and fries. $215 after tax and tip. This place can get spendy.

New restaurant from the Libertine team! As always, very great service and lovely ambiance. Great for family dinners, date nights, or even corporate events. Highly recommend The martini was really good. Food wise - the escargot might actually be my fav in the city. The sauce was very addictive. I also personally really enjoyed the Hokkaido scallops dish. The entrees were delicious and the fries were a great addition. Did not get to try the bar menu as that is a separate section but would definitely be back to try that!

Duck à l'Orange - ok, very ducky. Wouldn't get it again.

It was ok. The duck was very ducky. Wouldn't get it again. The rice and prawns were very good. The artichoke was good. Tables wobble which they do fix but should probably just have them all fixed by default at seating.

The stars finally aligned this winter and I had the opportunity to try it out. The vibes are perfect. Fog and bubbles, sea noises and all of the art go together seemlessly. Drinks were great. We had three and left suitably sloshed for the night with no aftereffects. We didn't have too many bites but the food was very good for a bar. Cocktails are made with various types of rum and ingredients like grapefruit, maraschino, wormwood amaro, falernum, thyme, Assam tea, spiced lime, allspice, coconut, cucumber, nutmeg, sour orange. All the drinks keep with the tropical, fruity taste with a hint of spice. They are also broken up into categories (dry land = no alcohol, shallows = average amount of alcohol, and abyss (larger amounts of alcohol). The abyss section has some cocktails that are limited to two per customer. They have some bar bites like fried green tomatoes, shrimp toast, broiled oysters, ricotta, dumplings, sliders. I had the French fries with kimchi ranch, which were underwhelming. Bartenders were cool and kept the drinks coming. I got in immediately without an issue or a wait, but it was right after a snowstorm. I've seen some people struggle to get in or have a long wait.

As for food, there were some true hits but most of the food was good but basic. The highlights for me were the wild mushrooms & rice cakes as well as the Caesar salad - loved the use of nori in the salad and would definitely come back for the mushrooms. The chicken cutlet and chicken dumplings were fine but I probably wouldn't order them again. The wait staff weren't super attentive nor super warm, but they were efficient when we asked for water refills, etc. There was ample standing room at the bar while we waited for our friends, but the table/booth that we sat at was super narrow, I was knocking knees with my friend all night and generally felt squished.

Calling him a bartender almost feels like an understatement--he's a true cocktail craftsman. I was amazed watching him create drinks based simply on a few words or flavors we mentioned. It felt less like ordering a cocktail and more like collaborating on one. Of course, he also nailed the classics. The Clover Club and Gimlet were both perfectly executed, and my husband tried three different whiskey cocktails throughout the evening and loved every single one. The atmosphere is exactly what you hope for from a speakeasy: dark, intimate, and unassuming. The space is small, which adds to the experience, although the bar stools are definitely not designed for settling in for a three-hour hang (my only minor complaint). But honestly, that probably helps keep the experience moving and allows more people to enjoy this special spot. Attaboy is a great example of why NYC has such a legendary cocktail scene. The drinks, the craftsmanship, and the personal attention make it clear why this place gets so much attention. We'll absolutely be back.
