I had to get my car smogged again so I automatically thought of Cha's after going there for the same thing 2 years ago. When I pulled in the lot, the owner (Mr. Cha?) immediately walked out before I even parked, wished me a happy new year, and asked if I needed a smog. When I said yes, he immediately told me how much it would cost ($55), how long it would take (10 minutes), and (when I agreed to proceed) he offered me a seat at the patio table outside the garage. He worked quickly and efficiently and I don't even think it took the 10 minutes he quoted. They still accept ApplePay (thanks to another local business for keeping your systems contemporary!) and I finished paying in less than 20 seconds. Without my having to ask, he explained how long it would take for the smog results (passed!) to be uploaded to CA DMV (24 hours) and I was on my way. Not sure why people have had negative experiences with this business and/or the owner. Two years between my visits and both times I received friendly customer service and fast, efficient service. Went here on a Saturday morning after seeing the smog check place I originally was gonna go to was closed. Saw this along the way and was greeted by the owner who was super friendly! He quickly explained the price and how long it takes. Price was $55 for smog check which includes the printed results. Didn't wait more than 10 minutes before it was done. The owner explained that the results were sent over to the DMV and that it should be in their system within 24 hrs. This place also accepts tap to pay. Overall a good and quick experience. The owner is a POS. I have no idea why he's still in business. He's rude and argues with his customers instead of helping them out. I only went here because he's literally 2 blocks away so its convenient but I will NEVER go back here again. For all the times I went here, he would always find ways to turn down work and would tell me to check out other shops. Like he picks and choose what work he wants to do. The customer service has gone downhill and I won't be coming back. The mechanic who happens to be Hispanic has always shown proper customer service and has always been helpful but I can't say the same about the owner. I don't know if his wife left him for his brother or what but this guy has something up his back door. Tried to come in for an oil change and he did everything he could to tell me no. First he tells me it went up $10 and that I should shop around first. I was willing to pay the ridiculous $130 he was asking for the oil change but of course that wasn't enough so he proceeds to ask me "How do you know you need an oil change if the light isn't on ???" I took my 27-year-old car here for a smog check, but it was making an engine noise. Mr. Cha made a suggestion of what he thought the noise was, but they didn't perform that service at the shop. I got the problem taken care of and went back for the smog test. Since the car is older, there was an additional charge for the service, but it was done quickly and professionally! She passed with flying colors. Two days later, I took my other car to Cha's for a smog test, it's a newer car so it was only $40 to test. SUCH a great rate. I came here for a simple oil change based on their great reviews , but my experience turned out very awkward and weird as I was paying the owner for the services at the end. The owner thought it was okay for him to be rude to me when I tried to tip one of his employees, his response and attitude was unacceptable. To be Honest, I tip my mechanics because I'm always grateful for their services, and not one of them had a problem with that. But the owner had a different perspective of it, he told me that I only tipped them because I think they don't make enough money . That's nothing close to true if you really know who I am as a person. When you try to do a generous thing , people's ego let it get the best of them. Came here to get help with a tow hitch I needed flipped around and didn't have the tools. Just pulled up and the gentleman came up and asked me what I needed and helped me out right away no questions asked. Did it free of charge and didn't sweat helping me out. I took too long to write this, but I came to Cha's for a smog check earlier this year, and they charged a reasonable price, did a great job and replaced a small hose for no charge - it was quick, the mechanic was incredibly nice, and I will go back every time I need a smog check. read more

Came in wanting an oil change and was greeted by one of the mechanics at first i told him i wanted an oil change asked me to give him some info on the car which i did then proceeded to check under my car as soon as i told him i had the parts with me (oil & filter) he immediately told me they only did smog and not repairs nor maintenance it was strictly smog, he then told me to go to a jiffy lube or one of those oil places which i did end up going to valvoline to change my oil hassle free just though i'd give a different business a chance and find something a little inexpensive and closer to my home but that wasnt the case.. anyways it all turnout for the best i left this place went on to valvoline which did my oil change and topped off all my fluids and had me in & out in 15 mins and went about my day.. read more

We got a quote yesterday from another place for brakes on our 2015 Honda Accord. $970!!!!!! This included the "need" for all new rotors as well. We went to Cha's for a second quote/opinion. New brakes plus rotor resurfacing was $340. I forewarned Cha we might need new rotors based on the previous place. He said if that's the case it would be $80 for each rotor. Even then, we're still saving $300. As we were leaving, he corrected himself once realizing our E brake was the handle and not a button/switch. So brakes are $310 actually. He didn't have to tell us that, and because he did I left my car trusting him completely. We got there at a GREAT time because he called us exactly one hour later to pick up the car. I thought he was calling to tell me we did need new rotors but it wasn't the case. He showed us the old brake pads, talked a bit about it. And we left with a receipt and standard print out of the work done. We won't go anywhere else from now on. Literally saved over $600 yesterday. read more

Cha's Auto in the Wrigley part of Long Beach has been around as long as I can remember. I usually come here for my smog checks and smaller repair jobs. On my recent visit, I took my mom's 30 year old car in for a smog check ($85, for older car) and Manny performed the service, which took about 20 min. I also took the same car here to have its wheel bearings replaced when I got new tires for it. And, the usual oil changes here and there as well. Mr Cha and Manny are honest and reliable. They will not try to up sell you on things you don't need. I fully recommend them for those "I hear a sound" check ins. Tip: If you are getting a smog check, call ahead and see if there's a line. I've gone at opening with 1-2 people ahead of me. Luckily, they have a few machines for smog checks. read more

Out of sheer desperation, I drove in cold without any prior info while on the way to another yelped local after several smog check stations failed to provide timely service; even though they were open one early morning. Cha, the grizzled savvy owner, immediately came over to greet me and laid out the DMV approved 40$ out-the-door test procedure with one free pass smog check, if the first happened to fail. Of course I knew, by first hand, that mine would not so the convo delegated over to Manuel and we were off to the races. My family has been going to Cha's for three generations. If I ever go anywhere else, it is never as great as my experiences here. The workers here are so kind, helpful, and happy. I always receive such a warm greeting when I arrive here which is so refreshing for an auto shop. Also, this shop has a well deserved reputation for being the most honest shop around. Cha's has very reasonable prices and I am so lucky that I live so close. They don't have a typical lounge area (room inside with a tv), but instead they have a table and some chairs outside under a canopy.
