Having just switched from Century Link, I'm happy with Charter. Awesome tech guy, Jeff! Warning... If you need to have a tech come to your home, I'd advise you to ask for a Charter employee. I had a weird experience with a sub-contractor(s) employee and asked him to leave. He was very odd. It was apparent when he first arrived, opened the storm door, and walked in. Charter has the attitude of "if you don't like us leave!" They will not credit for service problems and they could care less if you have an issue. The Internet is equivalent to dialup. Bundling doesn't not save money. Charter is expensive, especially for subpar service. The first six months they switched out three modems and I lost count of how many times they switched out the TV boxes. We were supposed to have several DVR's but they installed all basic boxes with no DVR's but were charged for DVR's. There was a technician at our house one to two times a month! Needless to say we no longer have them. If you want any results regarding issues you would need to go to the Charter office in Bozeman. I've been a customer for about a year and a half and have been generally happy with the service. Speed generally ranges around 64Mb/s which allows smooth streaming of any media as well as extra left over for 2nd screen activities. Occasionally the speed will drop to near 0 for no apparent reason, but rebooting the modem and having my router get a new IP address fixes the problem. Not wildly happy about this, but as time goes on it has been happening less and less. Compared to the CenturyLink DSL "12Mb/s" service I had before this is about the same price, but it actually delivers the claimed speed -- CenturyLink typically only delivered 3-5Mb/s, which was not sufficient for HD video streaming. My CenturyLink service also experienced frequent outages which required rebooting the modem (every few days or so) to restore the service. Overall the speed is excellent and the stability is OK. Like all internet service this is somewhat overpriced, but it does work. read more

I was expecting the worst due to the overall bad ratings of all internet providers in Bozeman. We've had a great experience with Spectrum/Charter....they were on time, set up the internet quickly and the service has been great for the past few months. Unreliable internet speed. You'll get 60Mbps speed when you do a speed test but have streaming video lag really bad--shows pausing to buffer all of the time. Problem with cable is, you're sharing the speed--why they advertise "up to" 60Mbps... Doing testing I could get as fast as 64Mbps and as low as 7Mbps with streaming speeds often under 20Mbps... it's not bad internet for email and web browsing, but you'll not likely be happy with streaming video... especially in the evening or on weekends when everyone else is using it. Dedicated internet is a better way to go--I don't want to advertise who I switched to, but I have 40Mbps (1/3 slower than this provider) and I no longer get video streaming lag or buffering. I made the mistake of contacting this company to get Internet service in Belgrade, MT. I can not imagine a company being worst than this, as I am currently on a wait of 29 days with no service. They will assign you to a customer service rep, who basically does not have any information, and could not get tell me after 29 days when anyone would be able to provide service. Then I was supposed to get transferred to a manager, whom I was going to ask, how you call the business you are in an Internet SERVICE PROVIDER, when you provide no service, but I was sent to an empty mail box in their system. In addition to this, they will call you all the time to try and sell you cable, so will solicit the heck out of you as well. Bottom line is this company hurt my business, do not let them hurt yours!!! They suck bad. read more

This one star review comes after 14 months of using them for internet services. I believe that is ample time to develop a strong, accurate opinion. The internet is very spotty, depends largely on the time of day. I have to restart it several times a day, or give up all together on bad days. Some of their men have come out on different occasions to check my router and act baffled when they can't find anything wrong. One admitted they know they need more "towers" to manage the traffic, but have yet to take any action. On top of that, I get weekly mail, monthly phone calls soliciting to sign up for their "amazing" package deals. I finally asked to be taken off the list. Still getting mail and phone calls. The reps are always very polite when talking to them (after entering your information in SEVERAL times over the phone and waiting a while). I would have disconnected with them months ago, but there's no competitors around here. All I can do is leave a bad review in hopes we all really together until they finally up their product. read more

Waited to return one cord on my lunch break and was never acknowledged by the front desk lady. She was helping another customer but there were 3 of us waiting. She wouldn't look at any of us or call anyone up for extra help. There were 2 unoccupied desks. I even waited until after lunch time to go to avoid lunch rush. This is my second bad customer service experience there. I'm writing this not in anger but for awareness so this issue can be resolved. read more

Sadly I have never been satisfied with the company philosophy. After my first year they increased my internet fees 20.00 per month while providing nothing extra. I had TV and internet at the house and when I wanted to drop just the TV they wanted to increase the internet by an additional 15.00 per month for doing nothing extra for me. Crappy philosophy. They should continue whatever pricing you started with unless you INCREASE what you are asking them to do. read more

A miserable experience. I've lived in a few states and had a few different Internet providers and this is by far the worst experience I've had. They offer the highest prices for the worst reliability I've ever seen. The interest cuts out at least once a week. Their website is poorly designed and paying your bills online is an awkward and confusing experience. Don't use these guys unless you enjoy paying $40 per month more than you deserve. read more

Horrible customer service and they overcharge you to death. I had to call multiple times to get them to stop charging me for a service that I wasn't even receiving. The only reason they get two stars is because the lady on the phone was trying to keep her patience with me as i was losing it. Although she did interrupt me, patronize me, and condescend me...I guess theres still worse customer service out there? I wish Bozeman had more options for these services; I don't know anyone who's had a decent experience with Charter. read more

I agree that this company is TERRIBLE. After making a "fix" out on my pole my internet quit working -- I called immediately as I work from home but they did not fix it until 3 days later!!! All of their service is done by automated voices - no real way to drill through to a PERSON. Very frustrating and lost me a lot of work. Oh yeah -- and once service appointment was scheduled they call every 12 hours to confirm it -- so I got FIVE calls regarding this appointment. Really?!! read more

Do not believe anything they tell you about saving money by bundling services. These cable, phone, and Internet companies are resorting to cheap tactics in order to stay in business rather than adapt to new changes. Case in point, this guy comes by the apt to offer us cable on top of our Internet service and says that we can cancel anytime and go back to what we had before. Nothing to lose right? Wrong. When I called a few months later to cancel the cable and go back to what we had, they informed me that our Internet rate would increase almost 50% after removing the cable. I told them that it was supposed to go back to "what it was before". They said nope, it will never go back to the rate it was before adding cable on. Learn from our "mistake". Don't get tricked by Charter or any of these other companies that try to "save you money" by bundling services together. Shop around, get a good rate, and keep what you got. read more

Charter is a garbage internet and tv provider. The workers are all extremely nice and helpful but the product they sell is far from quality. Our internet was lagging pretty bad and the tv kept cutting out. We talked to them and they suggested we upgrade the cable that provides the internet to the house. We did that and now the tv is worse and my internet kicks me off the internet all the time. Will be switching to a new provider soon and ending this nightmare. read more

I think Charter is sub par. I came from California where I had Comcast. In both places I have a DVR. Charter will only let you record two programs at the same time and watch one of them. If you want to watch something else, you can't. Some of the buttons on the remote do not operate. In California if you wanted to delete a program at any time you just hit the D button. Does not operate on Charter's remote. Searching for a program on Charter is primitive. You have to navigate across and up and down the box with letters and numbers and press enter each time you find the one you want. On Comcast you just hit the key on the remote containing the letter you wanted and as you progressed choices popped up and when you saw what you wanted you could select it. Also, when watching some programs you have a wide bar at the top and the bottom of the screen. I am sure this is a fault of Charter since I have the same TV I had in California where everything showed in full screen. read more

I had cable tv and internet through Charter. Once I got rid of cable, I experienced a huge decrease in internet speed. I pay for 60 mbps, but I'm lucky if I get 10. I call them and they blame my router, which is an A+ rated router that I can get a signal from a block and a half away from my house. It's one of the best. And my wireless devices that hop onto the network are all less than 15 feet from the router. So it's most definitely not my router. They then do something and ask me to do the speed test again and magically I get 60+ mbps. I get off the phone and it goes back down to 10. I've heard from a ton of people that they do throttle connections and they also degrade people that get rid of cable in an attempt to get them to buy cable again whereupon they all of a sudden get the speeds they pay for. If you can, avoid Charter at all costs. read more

I'm so tired of dealing with this business. I have a store in Livingston, and have been without phone for an entire week and intermittent internet. Every time I call they just give me a ticket number and tell me that there are issues in our area that they are working on. Well get out of the truck and work on it!!! This company is awful, as many have stated before. If I could have rated them zero stars, I would have. In February, Charter no longer offered their Boost option for internet because they upped everyone's internet to that level. While this is fine, they did not notify customers that the boost was no longer needed for high speeds and continue to charge boost subscribers until they opt out. This is robbery, plain and simple. I was charged for six months for a service I was not receiving and now they refuse to reimburse me for the charges that I unfairly paid. when I called, the supervisor I eventually reached was condescending and suggested that I should have "educated myself" instead. In Bozeman, there are pretty much no other internet providers, meaning Charter can essentially treat us as poorly as they please. Because of that, I say when something is wrong, give 'em hell because they need to know that we deserve ethical treatment. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. Worst customer service ever. The new digital boxes are a pain. One of ours is not working properly and the help is terrible. We called the phone number to get help and they were worthless. The only suggestion they have was to call the local office and maybe someone could help us in 4 to 6 weeks. CHARTER SUCKS!! We thought we were saving money by bundling our cable, internet and phone but I came to realize that it was really only a tactic to keep us paying for services we didn't need. I ran into a rep of a different provider while shopping at Costco, and I couldn't believe the amount of money I saved, not to mention the great service. This company has the worst customer service. First, if you're having problems with your device, you're forced to speak with a machine that doesn't help with anything. Then after a half hour of waiting the machine suggests that you should speak with someone. This takes about another half hour out of your life and maybe just maybe the person you get to talk to knows what he or she is talking about. Second the price on your bill will go up. They lie and claim that it will be a certain price for a year, but by the second or third month it will go up because they'll claim that your area has been "upgraded". Finally I had the sevice where I used the analog service on one of my TVs and the DVR on the other one. Without notifying us they "discontinued" the analog service making me believe something was wrong with the television. When I called and asked, I was told they got rid of the analog/antenna feature but that I could get another cable box for only $6.99 a month more. Needless to say, I am no longer a customer of Charter. read more
