My wife and I really have always enjoyed this restaurant and typically go a couple times a year, either this one in Monterey or the one in Tahoe. This weekend we celebrated our anniversary there once again and would've loved to have put up a 5 star rating except for one thing.... First - Food was excellent (nothing new for us) Filets and scampi - even the salad bar was great. Second - Service was great. Seated right on time! Our server Jenieveve was both friendly and professional - a real pleasure. Third - (the problem) The canned music is dreadful and I don't think many people coming to spend good money for a special night would appreciate it - maybe those under 20 years old..... even the staff commented that they "kinda tune it out..." Dined here for a graduation celebration recently. It looks like they didn't require masks as I saw several guests waiting without masks on. Majority of people wore masks though and all employees were masked. I loved that they printed personalized menus to commemorate the occasion! We had a large party and sat together at two tables that were next to each other. We had our baby in tow and was relieved that we had enough space to park our stroller at the end of the table. There was a $100 minimum per person so we ordered several appetizers to share. Calamari - Solid calamari! The breading was light and crunchy. Would order this again. Coconut Breaded Shrimp - If you are a fan or coconut this is the appetizer for you. The coconut breading was super crispy and flavorful. There was a coconut cream dipping sauce that was a little too sweet for me. Beet Salad - Very refreshing and delicious. It also had arugula, bleu cheese, candied pecans and picked red onions. So good together!! Mac Nut Mahi - I enjoyed this. Macadamia nut crust was not too heavy. I also liked the mango relish which gave it a good tang against the rich peanut sauce. Neighbors said the restaurant was only half full so we didn't make a reservation. When asked for my phone number so that we could be seated I asked why it was needed since they were not needing to text me, just seat me. No number no table, or you can sit at the bar. I said you are willing for me to walk out if I don't give you a number? Yes. They were willing to accept an obviously fake number. Should have realized the hostess was trying to warn us away. After 45 minutes of waiting for our food the manager stopped by the table. How's everything? We're starving. She went back to check on the meal and she must command a lot of respect because 30 minutes later we had our food. And we had a $130 bad experience. First time here and was celebrating my Birthday weekend with friends. So glad to try and it did not disappoint!! The restaurant has a large dining area with plenty of seating to accommodate couples or large groups and had amazing water views. The food: Left satisfied as each item was very flavorful and cooked with care. I ordered the prime rib, juicy, cooked right and so good! The best I think I've had and I don't usually order prime rib since most places leave it lacking flavor. But not here! The lobster bisque was watery, but flavorful and had chunks of lobster. Yum. We visited Charter House on a Monday evening. Despite having a reservation and the restaurant not being busy, it took a while for the hostess to seat us. The restaurant itself is stunning with breathtaking views. Recommended by my sister, our family was excited to try it. We sampled items from both the regular menu and the main courses, including the clam chowder, lobster bisque, miso salmon, and lava cake. While the food was good, rating around a 7/10, it didn't stand out. We were seated near our reserved time at a cozy table. It was after sunset so the view was lost to us but they have windows overlooking the bay. Service was amazing - our server was very attentive. We ordered the tasting for two, a mojito flight with three flavors. The mango was a hands-down favorite. My entree was a perfectly cooked filet - I would have liked a bit more potatoes and a grilled veggie. The prime rib my partner ordered had a lot of flavor near the fat but the au jus could've used a bit more. We ordered the molten lava cake not realizing we would be receiving a complementary slice of coffee ice cream pie to celebrate our anniversary. We sat at the bar and ordered a drink, it's was a coconut rum summer special drink. We ordered the Coconut Shrimp and the Mac Nut Mahi, two of their classics. The shrimp came with 3 different dipping sauces! The Mahi was well cooked, but moist. The portion was generous and mango salsa and peanut sauce were a home run. I enjoyed the sticky rice as well. We ordered the asparagus as an add on. My only critique is the green beans and asparagus were cooked to death, they were limp and lifeless. They brought me a birthday mocha mud pie with a candle, (No cheesy singing, thank god.) We ordered the Lava Cake in advance and it did not disappoint! The heath bar crumble was a new flavor profile I hadn't had experienced. The Vanilla ice cream complemented and cut down The intense flavor of the chocolate. We tipped our waitress very generously and told her we would definitely return again. Absolutely amazing experience. The first time we dined here was on Father's Day. My husband and I walked in with our toddler around 1pm without a reservation. (PS: We tried Schooners before this, but they turned us down without evening looking at us.) Thankfully, Chart House not only took us in, but with excellent and welcoming service from the front desk to the table. We ordered some red wines; not too many red wine by the glass options but their selections were decent. We had the coconut shrimp as appetizer; shrimps were in big sizes, freshly cooked with crispy outside layers. We both ordered their 16oz prime ribs and it was absolutely one of the best prime ribs we had. They were perfectly cooked to the temperature we wanted, tender, juicy, and flavorful. I'm drooling by just remembering the prime ribs. Last time we visited, my husband forgot his credit card. They called us when they found out, but we were already on freeway heading back home. They kindly offered to keep the credit card for us until we visit again. Too bad they don't open for lunch all the time, only on holidays (they usually open at 4pm). Since we have a toddler, we usually need to leave Monterey around 5pm at the latest, or else we would have visited here more often. I have had excellent experiences overall. The food is always finely crafted and delicious. The last time I went, I ordered the Filet Mignon, it was so tender and buttery. The staff who work there are professional and tended to my table well. It is a beautiful restaurant looking directly onto the ocean, with some seats sitting directly over the water. Arrived and was seated promptly and a table with a beautiful ocean view. The waiter, Garrett, provided delightful service and the manager even popped by our table to check in on us. Everyone was kind and caring. The prime rib was cooked to perfection and I subbed the usual potatoes w asparagus. Yummy! The chopped salad was BIG and so tasty. Fyi- they just reopened their salad bar and that seemed to be a hit. Add on to an entree for $13 or have it as your meal for $27. Do to COVID 19 many things have had to change and restaurants have had to adopt new rules, guidelines, and procedures for how they conduct business. With that, Chart House appeared to be navigating the new process excellently. Every patron is required to where a mask upon entry and until seated at their table, where they can then remove their mask(s). All waiters, waitresses, cooks and additional staff members wear masks. It feels safe to dine in, and we will certainly patronize them again. If you enjoy salmon, the herb crusted salmon is great! If you prefer shrimp and scallops, the soy ginger shrimp and scallops is perfect as well. We had dinner with friends here recently. The establishment is beautiful, you walk in through this beautiful bridge and are greeted by this amazing huge entry door. I feel like we got the best seat in the house! The ocean view was amazing! The have a fantastic array of mock-tails, We ordered the coconut shrimp and kim chee calamari, so many flavors! It was amazing. The five of us shared the apps, plenty to go around! Two of us ordered the grilled halibut with a tropical salsa (i was one and it was absolutely divine)! Two of us ordered the prime rib and they said it was delicious and one of us ordered steak and was very happy with their meal. Really enjoyed a nice dinner here on a recent trip to Monterey Bay and Carmel Valley. We made reservations on Open Table for around 5:45 pm and we are glad we came in early. The restaurant has a small parking lot across the street with free parking. When we arrived, it was pretty empty, but as the night wore on, the restaurant got extremely busy so come early if you don't want to deal with crowds. I had the 14oz Captain Prime Rib with a side of mashed potatoes and was really happy with the selection. The prime rib was perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and very tender. Also tried the Surf + Turf pasta, which was also very tasty. We also ordered the seafood pot pie, but I wasn't a big fan of this dish - tasted too seafood-y for me. If you have any room for dessert, I'd recommend getting the lava cake. It was gooey, warm, chocolatey and delicious.
