We did have high expectations with chart house and they fully disappointed. The views were awesome but that was about it. The halibut was good but nothing impressive. The steak was overly rare (deep purple in the middle) despite asking for it to be medium. Once we got our food we never saw our server again. We ate the halibut and half the prime rib (each outside) and continued to sit there waiting for the server, for about 20-30mins. We saw the manager talking to other tables nearby. Another server stopped and said it looked like we needed something and we mentioned we haven't seen our server since our food was delivered (and didn't see him at any other table) but we had ordered the lava cake and said if it's ready we will take it to go and if not then cancel the order and will take our bill. The other server walked to the manager talked to them. Then the other server brought us the bill (lava cake on it) and asked if anything else. We said the lava cake to go since it's on the bill. We literally got a "you already said that." We paid the bill, got the lava cake to go and left still without our server coming back. The manager also never checked on us despite us walking right past him when we left. Very disappointed in chart house service. The steak, it happens. But the service was one of the worst we have ever had and is inexcusable. By our server, the other server and the manager. Won't ever go back to this location as there are way better options around.

This place is a throw back and nostalgic. If you want new hot and popping this ain't it. If you like dive OG seafood and steak restaurant bars with an 80s vibe this is it. You'll probably run into my grandparents or yours as well but I do love old people!! We keep coming back for good reason. Oh the views are spectacular as well!! Great staff too.

We've been here a few times now for special occasions and you really can't beat the view at sunset. Service is usually pretty good, the warm bread is always yummy. My go to is coconut shrimp! Or any of their steaks. If you tell them you are celebrating something ahead of time they specialize the menu which is cute.

We've been coming to Chart house for years. I've been hesitant write a review because I don't want the secret out but Zane is amazing, food is top notch, view is sublime. If you want mediocre food, horrible service and less than pleasant views, do not go here. If you want to have the best meal in Monterey, drop all plans and go visit Chart House!

Back after 9 years another Birthday celebration Service: 4/-5 Food selection: filet mignon and shrimp scampi 3 half /5 salmon with rice, 4/5 Caesar salad 4/5 Cream spinach 2/5 The steak had a decent flavor, but I didn't like the cut too or texture It was kinda weird chewy ; the salmon and rice dish had a good flavor and the Caesar salad was good Nice presentation; the calamari was really good and I usually don't it calamari but this sweet and spicy sauce they put on it with all the add-ons was so good. I've have creamed spinach multiple places and this one just didn't do it for me. It was clumpy. It didn't have flavor. It just didn't give the cream spinach taste that Im used to. I wouldn't order this again. I also enjoyed a good lemon drop. Service: 4/5 service was good very attentive patient and professional Ambience; 10/10 I love the ambience. The chart House has one of the best views & ambience inside and out! If you're lucky to get a window seat, the decor is very nice and all of the staff seem to be very nice and attentive. Conclusion: when I am in the area, I will definitely stop by again. I love this place. The food is pretty good for the price point but the steaks definitely could use some work. They definitely need to choose a little better cut of meat but overall everything else was pretty good. I enjoyed my birthday dinner and also my cute little birthday dessert thank you chart House. See you again.

Had a great experience during happy hour. For happy hour, you sit at the bar or in the designated area of the restaurant. My family enjoyed their happy hour drinks. Delicious food, great views of the water. Their lot was full so we parked on the street, no issues. My favorites were the tacos, calamari, and tuna over rice.

Beautiful Views, But a Major Miss on the Food I've been to a number of Chart House locations over the years and have generally had great experiences, so I was excited to visit the Monterey spot. The location and views are, as expected, stunning. However, the experience with the food was unfortunately a real letdown, starting with the fresh raw oysters. While the oysters themselves seemed to be of fine quality, the shucking was honestly terrible. Several of them had fragments of shell and even some mud left on the edges. The adductor muscle wasn't released on the bottom of any of them, so I found myself having to awkwardly cut each one loose and flip it over myself before I could eat it. The most glaring issue was one oyster that had a hole completely smashed through the bottom of the shell, and it was full of shell fragments. It was completely inedible. I pointed this out to our server, and to their credit, they were very professional about it. They promptly brought out a single replacement oyster, and this one was perfect--beautifully shucked, muscle released, and properly turned. It showed me what should have been served in the first place. Moving on from the appetizers, the rest of the meal was also hit-or-miss. The salad bar was nice and had a good selection. Unfortunately, our main entrees didn't fare as well. My halibut was dry, and my boyfriend's prime rib was surprisingly tasteless. Ultimately, the best part of our dinner was the nice view. While the service recovery on the oyster was appreciated, it's disappointing to have such fundamental errors in preparation and execution from a restaurant like Chart House, from the appetizers through the main courses. This experience definitely fell short of the standards I've come to expect from the brand.

As many times as my husband and I have visited Monterey, this was the first time trying Chart House. It was my birthday so I really wanted something special. We showed up at our reserved time and we were seated immediately. Our waiter was super friendly and accommodating for our meal requests. The place was pretty busy, but service was great. The decor is absolutely beautiful, filled with rich woods that gave it a very romantic cozy feel. Since I had already had seafood for lunch, I decided to try the prime rib and OMG, it was amazing. It was cooked at the perfect medium, and was so tender and flavorful. I added a loaded baked potato, which topped it all off. The lobster bisque and clam chowder were top notch and both delicious. They also provided a lovely birthday candle on my dessert! Did I mention my dessert was a lava cake? It was to die for and I ate it all even though I was so stuffed before it even came. I will definitely return and I highly recommend!

We decided to come here for a date night. We were seated by the water which was pretty and nice! The customer service was amazing and the explanation of the dishes was good. Our server/bartender and host was really attentive and cool. Unfortunately, the food was alright. It wasnt something to write back home about. I really liked the restaurant as a whole, but I wish the food was a little bit better. Especially for the price. I don't want to take away from the people who work there, I just wish the food was a little better.

Not sure where to start here. Overall the experience was not bad but it definitely wasn't great. Our starters of the crispy tuna was 80% rice (without seasoning) and 20% spicy tuna that did not really taste fresh at all- skip this. I ordered the "chefs special" miso black cod and it was so incredibly bland and the bed of vegetables could have been a frozen mic from trader joe's. Maybe it was just my dish because everyone else liked their meals (lamb and steak), but man don't recommend the chef's special, OR hype it as the special for that matter, if it is going to be poorly executed. I will say the Mud pie was so yummy and I would actually go back to order just that hahaha. They messed up our creme brulee so they gave us a free hot chocolate lava cake (also chefs special go figure) and it was dry and not very good- probably why it was free. Overall, you aren't going here for the food, mostly the oceanside views.

We came back because we had come once prior years ago and remembered the food being good.. this time I would say it has changed. Can't say we'll re-visit, restaurant is pretty, great ocean views and staff was kind and friendly but food was ehh for the price Oysters 3/10 *we sent them back because they weren't clean well at all- lots of shells Halibut 8/10 *pretty good but nothing I'd go back for. Fish was cooked well though Filet Mignon 7/10 *lacked flavor Kids Salmon 3/10 *undercooked, no seasoning/flavor Kids Burger 7/10 *very small, very dry

Absolutely no options for vegetarians except for a salad bar. Mostly meat and seafood entries. I declined the vegetarian burger since there would be cross contamination when being grilled on the same pan as the meat. The offer of a vegetable pasta was not very appetizing. Great for meat and sea food lovers. Not for vegetarians.

Just a short walk from our hotel Clement, who went out for a late dinner. It's my wife's birthday weekend so wanted a nice dinner. We didn't arrive till about 8:30 at night so we were easily seated at a window table on the bay. The server Kimberly greeted us and provided friendly service throughout without being overly intrusive.. The restaurant is big and it wasn't crowded because it was late. I got the Caesar salad, which was in a toasted Parmesan bowl and was very good. My wife got the beet salad, which is unlike anything I've ever seen and it was a very big portion. We both got the lobster bisque and it was delicious. My wife got the lobster and I got the black cod which was buttery and cooked to perfection. Topped it off the cappuccino and had no room for dessert.

    Is there a kid menu?

Yes, we do have kid's menu available at our restaurant.

Do you have Bernaise sauce available?

We do not have it readily available. If given notice ahead of time, the restaurant should be able to make it for you.

What is the "Farmer's Bar" on the menu? Is it the wonderful salad bar having returned with a new name, or is it something else? Thank you!

It's a salad bar with all types of meats and cheeses. Even caviar. That's what I had for dinner and I was a happy girl leaving.

    Yes

Do you have to be vaccinated to dine?

If you are not vaccinated you must wear a mask when you are not at your table.

    Is this business dog friendly?

No since there is no outside seating.

Are you open ? Having calling several times today and no answer.

Closed on Saturdays, closes early on Friday afternoons at 3PM I believe.

Would you say this place is Kid Friendly? Would love to come here for dinner but have a fussy toddler and newborn baby as well in my group?

I went with my family with a 7:00 reservation, we got seated quickly, appetizers and drinks were delivered soon after, and we had a great conversation time as we waited for our meal. Luckily they did have 2 8oz in stock. The prime rib was amazing, it was so soft, tender, and flavorful with a nice accenting au jus. After such an amazing main course I got the crème brûlée. It was a great desert, the sugar was perfectly torched, a nice golden brown that paired just perfectly with the vanilla crème. Our waiter was so kind and contributed so much to our amazing atmosphere. I loved the old posters, the paintings, and the comforting, warm lighting. Pricy, but worth it. Saw some reviews and photos on Yelp and decided to give it a try. As my reviews tend to be lengthy let me summarize up front and add the details for those more interested. Service was 5 star, Ambience 4.5 star, and for Food I want to go higher but for reasons I will go into I must stay with 4 star. And because I think the food is the most relevant measurement I chose 4 star. The experience overall was great. We reserved indoor as Monterey can get a bit chilly but once on ground and with outdoor fireplaces and heaters it was the better option. And with a 3.5 yo in tow the outdoor really was the better option. It gave her freedom of movement and the ability to be more of a noisy child than the indoor would permit. Our waitress was attentive and great, the seating by the fire was a bit hard but she brought out blankets that could add warmth or in our case cushion to make them less noticeable. We ordered basic pasta for our child and let me just say the portion would have fed two adult men. Nothing amazing but it was palatable and she enjoyed it. We ordered drinks to include one of their specialties and it was enjoyed. And we started off with an order of the oysters. They were fresh, well presented and offered multiple options to flavor the oysters. For main courses I selected the Hen House homemade pasta with mushrooms and saw you could add scallops for $17.00 and it sounded brilliant. The dish was flavorful, creamy and only surprising in that they delivered one stunning scallop on a side dish. Slightly confused I remarked, "ummm is this the $17 scallop". Which in retrospect I would note I really wanted to see the menu again because I sincerely believe they likely advertised it as a singular "Scallop" which leaves only myself to blame. In all honesty the scallop is probably the second best scallop I have had in my life (Libertine Social in Vegas is hands tied the absolutely best to date). But I digress... I enjoyed the dish, mourned the single scallop and cleaned my plate. We also ordered the Focaccia Bread and butter starter. Let me just say that I love bread, probably more than I should and fresh baked focaccia is at the top of my list. I am accustomed to the outside being a bit crispy but the inside being pure pillowy heaven. They appear to cut them in slices and then bake them or toast them slightly before service. Definitely not a fan of toast, or crunchy bread it was not a high point but again well presented and despite my preference I did eat it with my pasta. Lastly my partner had the Wagyu beef, the description sounded great and the presentation was there but I think there are moments that when you read a menu you envision the finished product and let's just say it felt diminished in my minds eye. Flavors aside it was well cooked and the sides tasted fine. I just felt like I heard that grating voice from the 80s or 90's..."where's the beef". Now I say all of that to provide my view on the overall experience but I would say they are definitely worth the experience but go in knowing it will be a bit pricey. And to be fair if it's beef you are looking for I recall seeing a massive 32ounce porterhouse on the menu. But the price matched its size. In the end it was a strong 4 star experience and "scallop" aside if 4.5 was an option I would probably give it. Just not a 5. Hope this helps and please take note of my photos as they convey my write up. To our waitress, you did great!

You know how hard it is with a toddler and baby. But we also know the importance of bringing them. We were super excited to have an unbelievable steak dining experience. We were in Carmel for two nights and we researched this place to eat at. Upon arriving with our party of 6 everything was smooth. We put our order in and then what felt like over 90 minutes we were asked if we wanted our daughter's burger to come out first. Which we did. After some time there. The A5 Wagyu came out. The stone plate was pretty cool. As a matter of fact, our 3 year old had her first tasting experience with the A5. She absolutely loved it. And so did we! The actual timeline was sit down reservation at 6:15 and first A5 Wagyu to come out was 40 minutes later. Then a total of 90 minutes before our entrees came out. That was the time stamp on our food pics. Finally our order came out which was a porterhouse we ordered to split for two. It had the spinalus, and all the yummy with it! It was incredible. My friend ordered just the spinalus and said it was the best steak he's ever had. The food was definitely A+. What happened next brought the experience down to a 3 star. We paid for our deposit through the chase reserve portal using Tock prior to arriving for dinner. We opted to utilize our points since we saved way more by doing that. We paid a $300 deposit worth points. So in essence we should've received a bill with a minus $300 on it. When we received the bill, it did not have the $300 off from it. So I asked about it and they said they would take care of it. After a very long time, they came back and said they're trying to take care of it. After more time, one of the servers said to me, if I can pay the full price on the receipt and I will receive a refund in a couple of days. So we did. We didn't want to wait any longer. A couple of days later I sent an email and the owner responded with an email from that night that he was taking care of the situation. Apparently, Tock reservations that do not opt to accept points and cash deposits will have a hard time. And since Saltcraft accepts Tock reservations with only cash deposits, I was SOL. A couple days later I was refunded the points back to my account. The food was off the charts! We had a great time devouring the yummy in all those steaks! The servers and people taking care of us were super nice and seemed to care about our experience. Overall, we felt they could've addressed at the end with the time of order till the food came out with apologies. But there was no apologies. They just brought out the food. Then the amount of time not understanding what was going on with the bill. That could've been addressed. After writing an email to the owner, he apologized that their service wasn't timely. "I'm sorry that our leisurely service style for the meal and the lead time for our steak process wasn't a good fit for your family." That was his quote. We wish them good luck and no ill. Things happen and hopefully we all get better from it.

They're seared with duck fat which gives it a great buttery taste, allowing you to taste the fatty flavor on cuts of meat that aren't the most fatty. The fries that go with each steak dish are also really good and go with the steaks. We had the cowgirl ribeye and spinellis steak. They were both good, I personally preferred the cowgirl ribeye since it had more fat. For the other portions of the meal, I really liked the sourdough bread they gave us. It tastes freshly made. The mushroom side that we ordered my husband really liked, but it wasn't my taste since it was a bit oily. The toffee bread pudding we didn't really like-it was too sweet, very small, and not very well presented. The cocktails we had were stellar. We had the paper plane, Rio de Janeiro, and Thai boxer. My favorite was the Rio de Janeiro; I was watching it being made and they squeeze fresh oranges into the drink. It was a good combination of orange juice and cream. The Thai boxer was good, although I did think it was a bit watery. The service was great and we had a lot of good recommendations from the staff. The restaurant had good ambiance and visually pleasing interior design. It's located in a shopping plaza with easily accessible parking as well. Note-if you come for your birthday or special occasion, they don't do anything extra like a dessert.
