We came tonight for our anniversary, and we had made a reservation weeks in advance with a request for a window table. When we arrived, the host said it would be a few minutes. Okay, how many, ten? Twenty? He said he couldn't know how long and we said we'd wait in the bar. We finished our drinks and went back to the desk. Looking at the computer, it seems we've been marked as seated. Nope, we're still here. Could you wait over there (out of the way)? Sure. Meanwhile, two parties get seated while we stood there. This happened last time, too. You need to train your people. They didn't know what they were doing, they were clearly in over their heads, and they were not wearing name tags. We left and we will never, ever go back. We gathered at the restaurant you "manage" to enjoy an evening of good food/service and what we received instead was decent food and a level of service from YOU that in all of my years had not yet experienced. YOU escalated a situation unnecessarily and pompously. Only b/c our host was a gentleman did it not derail further. You advertise a bottle of wine as X, you deliver a bottle that is not X, my host asks about the discrepancy and you deign and say, "I don't appreciate your sarcasm." I was embarrassed for the both of you that I literally had to look away. IT WAS NOT ABOUT THE WINE; IT WAS, AT THAT POINT, DUE TO YOUR POMPOUS ATTITUDE, RATHER ABOUT YOUR UNPROFESSIONALISM. We celebrated Christmas Eve at the. Chart House Dana Point. Very busy night so we decided to eat dinner at the bar. Our bartender Kevin was awesome. Excellent cocktails and great dinner service. Best espresso martini for dessert, not too sweet. Then he gave us a sample of his favorite cranberry cocktail. Dinner of prime rib and sea bass was delicious. Made a reservation and asked to sit by a window. They sat us outside. It was so cold we could see our breath. I was with my 91 year old father and 87 year old mother who were incredibly cold and uncomfortable. No one seemed to care that we wanted to sit inside. I highly recommend making absolutely sure that you get indoor seating before arriving for your reservation. We should have walked out then. On top of that our food took two hours to arrive. They were so over booked that the waiter admitted that our ticket was 10 back. Terrible. For the price, there are so many better choices. Sadly, this Charthouse had become nothing but a decent view. We used to come to this location twice a week. Haven't been here for over a year. Based on the lack of service. It's Saturday night and thought let's try it again.. food was always good it's just the service / experience. My husband and I decided to give it a shot and made a reservation for 6:30 pm.. we arrived at 6:25 pm to find the Valet the valet was full and there is zero parking . When I called the gentleman that answered said just park wherever, it says no parking, they won't tow you. When I asked why valet was closed, he said well we are busy tonight . First, this is one of our favorite resturants, great service, views and food so no complaints. We made a reservation through Open Table for Friday night 6:30 and were on our way when we ran into some traffic. My wife called the and reached a hostess to tell her we would be about 15 minutes late. The hostess said we did not have a reservation and when my wife told here that we had a confirmation she was very rude and told her " I told you you do not have a reservation!). My wife also advised her that we were members of Landry's select club and was there anything that she could do.... The reason we made the reservation was we live in Temecula and it is a long drive to Dana Point. No help so we turned around. I would like to know if making a reservation through Open Table is not reliable and should we instead make reservations directly with the The Chart House?. My husband and I celebrated our 30th anniversary the other night. Our server, Evelyn, was excellent and attentive. We've been here twice in the last six months and we've loved it both times. My husband said it was one of the best steaks he's ever had and my fish was delicious. Plus we received a complimentary dessert for our celebration. My Cadillac Margarita was delicious. Our first time to try this chain was at Dana Point. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Our waitress was Heather and she was very friendly and gave great advice on what to order. We started with the crunchy coconut shrimp, which was very tasty! We then shared a caesar salad. It was plenty, enough for 2. My husband had a 9 oz filet mignon and I had the swordfish grilled with mango salsa. It came with orzo which was very tasty. There was enough swordfish to share. We ordered their lava cake for dessert which lived up to the hype. It was super delicious, moist and a little crunch around the edges. Plenty to share for 2-3. Our family of 15, were putting on a surprise birthday dinner for our mother's 100th birthday celebration! We had no idea, nor requested of them to do this, but on every single menu for the entire restaurant, they had imprinted on the top, a salutation honoring our Mother's special day - Wow! While the food was average, for an establishment of a perceived caliber and pricing, we received an experience that was lacking in attentiveness and quality. The most conversation we had this evening with our server staff was when they brought the bill. We waited over 20 minutes for our drinks, had to get up and find a server to ask for more drinks, were never asked how our food was...honestly, a complete disappointment. GO HERE!! The hostess greeted us as soon as we arrived down the stairs and was already aware of our preferred seating request made on Open Table. Shandrea was an outstanding server, so pleasant and helpful! The kitchen gets all the credit for the macadamia encrusted mahi-mani, simply cooked to perfection and served with their signature mango salsa. Truly hard to resist this house specialty or make another choice! The tender coconut fried shrimp dinner was a very generous portion that was just beautifully presented. The valet was super welcoming. Even as he saw us exit the restaurant, he was already on his way to get our car! This historic building and beautiful location has survived decades of weathering and could use a touch of updating, BUT it has gone through immense economic challenges and taste changes that have killed off other restaurants and businesses. Once you see the glorious California harbor view as you pull up, it makes you forget any needed cosmetics. My husband made a reservation here for a long overdue date night and everything was lovely. He asked for a table with a view and we were seated at a lovely outside table with a perfect view of Dana Point harbor and plenty of heaters for the (relatively) chilly evening. I came here for my wedding anniversary with high hopes because I saw the terrific view. Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed. Actually, quite disgusted. Once we were seated, our menu and utensils were filthy. We pushed them to the edge and our server replaced them without saying anything, which I appreciated. He was nice, however there was no apology or acknowledgment of how filthy the utensils were? As if this was normal. He got us our drinks promptly, but when I picked up my glass, that was dirty too! Old food on the outside of the glass and who knows what was inside. It was like the dishes got wet but were never washed. I asked for a new glass and told our server the issue. He promptly brought me a new glass, but again no concern or apology? The food was mediocre and way overpriced. We started with the coconut shrimp that was actually really delicious. Probably their best thing there. I ordered the NY Strip + Lobster tail. The lobster wasn't bad, but the steak had a lot of gristle and fat after I cut into it. I didn't want to ask for steak sauce so I asked if I could taste the chimichurri which ended up being butter? Which I was unknowingly charged $3 to TASTE (and it wasn't good). We also got the cucumber zero proof drink. It was okay. It tasted like a less sweet, carbonated Americanized agua Fresca. My husband got the filet mignon, which he did like and finished it. They also gave us ice cream cake for our anniversary which was nice. I probably wouldn't come back here and wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know, especially for a special occasion. The coconut shrimp were amazing, but you can get the same shrimp and steak at Outback Steakhouse for much less... 2 stars because I was really disgusted by the lack of cleanliness for such an expensive place. We frequently eat at the Chart House during sunset. The view is fabulous, the food is tasty and the servers are very friendly and welcoming. We just want to give a shout-out to Tony our waiter, he was very attentive. It's always busy last night, we were put in the bar section, unfortunately the waitress meant to serve us was very busy with other customers outside on the patio. We waited 15 minutes for someone to come and at least give us water. We saw the manager and asked him who our waiter was. Then he asked Tony to fill in for the waitress who was busy. Kevin is a new bartender there and what a wonderful addition he is, from his friendly and engaging personality and his attention to detail and service...he didn't miss a beat! The drinks were so good, he even mixed up something unique after asking me a few questions about what I liked...so good! All the food we ordered, several from the happy hour menu was delicious (I wouldn't order the blackened fish tacos again) but everything else was great! This restaurant looks beautiful on the outside, has great ambience, and an appetizing menu but unfortunately that's where the amazing experience ends and a terrible one begins. I ordered the Mac Nut Mahi, which was completely inedible. The rice was soggy & tasted like overly sweet vinegar and the mahi had large bones in it that I almost choked on. I had to have it sent back and didn't even get to eat dinner. My friends didn't fare any better. One of my friends ordered medium well filet mignon, which arrived overcooked and dry. Another friend ordered mahi mahi, which was extremely dry and overcooked and the couscous was far too oily. My friend now has a stomachache. We mentioned these issues to the server, who spoke with the manager and initially had a nearly full bill with two entrées on it. We told the server we wanted the filet taken off, and he came back with only $20 off the bill which he said would cover the desserts. However we didn't have any problems with the desserts, our issue was with the $40 entrées that were cooked incorrectly and were nearly inedible. We had to request to speak to the manager directly. The manager was horrible. She's a spiteful, sour woman and argued with us over the entrées. I had to remind her I didn't get to eat dinner and that I almost choked on the bones in the mahi. We had to fight to have just one entrée removed off bill, when all three should've been graciously removed. This is not how a manager should treat customers, especially at an upscale restaurant with $40 entrées. We will never, ever go back here. It's understandable for a chef to have an off night, but it is completely unacceptable for a manager to behave in such a way. An appalling experience. read more

The views were some of the best we have seen. We went @ 5 as the sun was setting it was stunning. So many stars to see in the sky once moon was set. Very romantic spot. I also loved the music playlist was perfect for the setting. The food was quite good. Recommend coconut shrimp and salmon out of what we ordered. The wine selection is decent too. The prices were very reasonable considering the location we were shocked how inexpensive the bill was. My only issue and this is a quick fix so does not wreck star rating - the tables were way to close together outside. Not sure why the OVERALL RATING isn't higher! The restaurant was warm, inviting, clean with endless views. We were greeted by a couple of hosts, then seated almost immediately. Our server Justin was prompt, polite, professional and very knowledgeable of the menu. Being our first time to this location we welcomed helpful hints. My wife and I both had wonderful meals prepared as ordered. New York & Prime rib accompanied by a chopped salad and a baked potato with butter, sour cream, cheddar cheese and bacon. The potato skin was crisp and well seasoned. We shared a slice of Mud Pie for dessert ample for sharing! All priced accordingly to the quality and portions.
