Made a reservation online. When we got there, they were running a little late but communicated that to us and it wasn't a big deal. We asked to sit out side and they seated us. What was strange was we had a folding table and chairs. There was an event going on which was fine but the table was wobbly and the chairs were uncomfortable. The view was amazing, our service was great. We loved the recommendations on the food and enjoyed everything else. The calm chowder and lobster bisque was amazing. Sea bass and salmon with crab delicious. The mini lava cake was to die for. They gave a free dessert red velvet cake for celebrating my mom and I. Service was great, they were running late on there reservations so it took them about 20 minutes to seat us. Great views we got a table next to the window so we could see the Dana Point Harbor. However they sat a large party next to us about halfway through our dining and they were extremely loud and my girlfriend and I could barely hear each other talk. Food was all great except our entree's where they put way too much salt on our fish both my sea bass and her halibut were like a salt bomb. read more

Came for happy hour before dinner. The bar has beautiful views of the harbor and comfortable seating. Our waitress took our order, part came out, but there was a long delay before we got an additional order. We did enjoy the coconut shrimp and truffle fries. Our water and my ice tea never was refilled. And when we had to move to our table for dinner, our waitress made several errors on our bill. We has a nice table with a view for dinner. My salmon was a bit overdone and dry, but my fiancés prime rib was cooked perfectly and delicious. The key lime pie was perfect for dessert. I would definitely give this place another try. The steak was delicious but I asked for well down and it was very red still. Other than that, the steak was juicy and the shrimp was grilled to perfection. The lava cake is to die for. This was a tough one. We dined here for my aunts birthday on a Friday evening at 5 pm. Host and initial seating: 1 star. Not friendly. I understand it was busy but no guidance or direction or estimate or information. Seated late which isn't a big deal. There was no menu and the host again was rude and just said she doesn't know anything about it. No apology, no offer to resolve. There is a tiny bar area you can go to wait. She didn't tell us about it. And there isn't much room (maybe why she didn't say anything ) Server. 5 stars. He was extra accommodating and friendly and I think he felt bad by the hosts dismissive responses. Food. Mix ratings. Big portions. Prime rib: chewy. 3 stars. Would not recommend Blackened salmon. Good. Maybe 3.5 stars. Kind of dry Bronzed salmon. Really good. 4.5 stars.juicy and cooked well. Lobster tail add in was cooked well also but small. Flounder francese 5 stars. Lots of flavor on this one. Perfectly crispy on most of it. But some parts could be a little hard. Would order again. Shrimp cocktail. Delicious. 5 stars. View; 5 stars. Parking. They have valet. Looks like a lot of people park in the street. Even at 5 pm it was packed. Valet folks were really friendly. Highly recommend to go get the Landry's gift card from Costco. Have only been here for their wine dinners and the food has been on point. Our latest trip this past weekend featured Stags' Leap (note the position of the apostrophe, I learned something new at the dinner that there are two wineries in Napa with the same name separated only by the apostrophe position and about 2 miles of physical locations they are in the same AVA). Service was great and plenty of glass top offs at this event. Well worth the price of admission. Food was delicious and you get a great view of the sunset on the patio if you arrive early. read more

Came here to celebrate a special occasion and left very disappointed. We ordered the happy hour lettuce wraps, and as soon as they were served, we noticed multiple bugs in the lettuce. (We weren't sitting outside). When we told our waiter, instead of apologizing, he simply said, "It happens." He offered to replace the dish, so we ordered the spinach dip instead because our appetite was ruined. However, we were still charged for the spinach dip replacement. Mistakes happen, but the lack of hospitality and how this was handled made for a very disappointing experience. read more

Fantastic service. Happy hour drink and coconut shrimp appetizer were prepared excellently. Dinner outside on the patio was very pleasant and provided a beautiful view. The clam chowder appetizer was delicious. I had the steak and shrimp main. The steak was cooked to a perfect rare but the shrimp were definitely tough and overcooked. Not really sure what to say here. We were excited to have a nice dinner for our last night on vacay. We had money to spend and found the chart house online. We also have a toddler and a teenager so of course the happy hour looked like a great option for us. I wanted the ORA salmon. My best friend wanted the king crab legs. We were ready to splurge. What a lovely time we had at The Chart House! Shandrea was our server and she was just so lovely and accommodating. I took my mom for her birthday and they brought her a yummy piece of cake at the end. Mom ordered the grilled salmon with Israeli Couscous and it was delicious! Salmon cooked perfectly. The service was good but too slow. As for the food here my assessment. The lobster was good but the vegetables served with it were a mess. It was an assortment of vegetables that were thrown together in a most unappetizing way. The New York cheesecake was supposed to be covered with a strawberry sauce but instead was served with a small, sliced strawberry and a teaspoonful of whipped cream. It was NOT good!! Next we ordered the seared sea bass. It was not fresh but barely edible. I should have complained but wasn't sure what I would get next. We dined here to celebrate my aunt's birthday with family from Chicago and our experience was amazing! Besides the views of the ocean and the cool architecture, our server was so friendly and attentive. She just brought a great vibe to the table and was so patient with us. Everything we ordered was delicious, I like the course option that included soup/salad, entree, and dessert. Calamari and shrimp mango stacks are must try's. A solid 3.5 stars I visited on a Wednesday evening and loved the cool, concrete architecture, however the service didn't match the decor. Our server was hard to flag down and brought out half the meals 15 minutes before the rest of the meals were served. So, 1/2 of the table has cold food. The hummus arrived with four cold, hard pieces of premade naan, and I had to wait another 10 minutes for my missing salad dressing before I could even start eating. While the rest of the food was an 8/10, the poor timing and lack of attention really brought down the experience. read more

The Chart House has some of the best views in OC! It sits on the top of the hill overlooking the Dana Point Harbor. I love the ability to sit on the patio and enjoy the gorgeous views. Also, you can enjoy happy hour from 4pm - 6pm and they have some great choices. Today we got a glass of wine, iced tea, artichoke dip, lettuce wraps and fries for all less than $40! Wow, the view from this restaurant is fantastic. My suggestion is to go early so you can get a window seat. I ordered the 10 ounce prime rib, which was one of the best prime ribs I've ever had. I've been to a few Chart House locations over the years, but my most recent stop was the one in Dana Point. Bottom line? I like it. Actually... I like it a lot. The view alone is an accomplice. Sunset on the Southern California coast is one of those rare things that stubbornly refuses to be overrated. The sky turns into a full-blown Renaissance painting. Pelicans glide around like they're on payroll. Dolphins are probably out there somewhere showing off. The ocean sparkles with the confidence of someone who has never checked a bank account. And the best part? Nature charges exactly ZERO DOLLARS You can stroll along the cliffs, breathe the salty air, become one with the universe, reconnect with your inner spirit, and contemplate your microscopic place in the cosmos... absolutely free. Then you walk through the front doors of Chart House and immediately begin negotiating a small financial treaty with your credit card. It's an emotional transition. One minute you're hugging Mother Nature. The next you're wondering if the filet mignon qualifies as a second mortgage. Our table managed to cover just about every major food group known to mankind: halibut, filet mignon, New York strip, coconut shrimp, calamari, hummus, mushrooms... basically enough food to convince neighboring tables we were conducting a culinary census. Everything was excellent. No complaints. Just smiles, clean plates, and the occasional glance at the ocean to remind myself that at least that part of the evening remained free. The bill? North of $200. We'll leave it at that. Look, nobody accidentally ends up at Chart House expecting dollar-menu economics. You go because the food is consistently good, the service has always treated me well, and the view is so ridiculously beautiful it almost feels like Southern California is showing off. The Pacific puts on a nightly performance that would make Broadway jealous, the sun takes a dramatic curtain call into the ocean, everyone stops talking for a minute to admire it, and somewhere in the distance a seagull is probably judging all of us for paying steakhouse prices when he just stole someone's french fries for free. That's life on the West Coast. Existential enlightenment outside. Financial enlightenment inside. Would I do it again? Without hesitation. Chart House remains one of my favorites, because sometimes it's worth paying for dinner while the universe throws in a world-class sunset for free. read more

THE FOOD. - Bread Basket (Complimentary) | Fresh sweet brown bread, dinner roll, and crackers. - Half Dozen Oysters Rockefeller | Warm with diced (sweet) red peppers and melted cheese contrasted by oceanic flavors. It sounds odd, but it feels right. - Prime Rib (10 oz.) | Thinner cut, but still marbled and very flavorful with au jus added. The creamy horseradish is mild with a hint of peppery spice. Mashed potatoes are creamy with little chunks of potato. The carrot is deliciously cooked to a crisp, chip-like texture. Recommend trying this dish out. - Caesar Salad | Shaved Parmesan, crunchy croutons, and creamy Caesar dressing tossed in. The flavors complimented each other without overpowering. - Creamed Spinach | Rich and velvety with crumbled croutons on top. - Lava Cake | Chocolate oozes out after cutting into it! Vanilla ice cream creates a cooling contrast from the cake. So deliciously decadent. THE DRINKS DRINKS. - Mango Mojito | Seemed to be more sour and less mango-flavored. - Black Cherry Mojito | Beautifully balanced cocktail. Sweet black cherry flavor with a tangy edge and refreshing finish. - Zuccardi Serie A Malbec ('23 Mendoza Argentina) | Fruity, sweet, and slightly smoky. The finish is smooth. THE PARKING. Unfortunate experience at Dana Point Chart House tonight, July 4. We had reservations for dinner on our anniversarybut we were turned away by the valets twice despite telling them we had reservations. Chart House's poor planning on our anniversary diminished what should have been the topping on an otherwise terrific day. When a restaurant leaves a bad taste in your mouth, I look elsewhere. There are too many other restaurants in south Orange County to return to the Chart House. And I went home for leftovers. Thanks Chart House. read more

Calamari was great and would get again and so was the filet and prime rib. Fish wasn't worth the $55 price tag and didn't even eat it all. Reservation was at 7 but sat at 7:30. Water refills were rare and should have brought a bottle water with us. We were thirsty when we left. Great views and loved the attire as a casual. I visited Chart House on a Saturday evening with my family to celebrate my dad's birthday. This was our second time visiting for a birthday celebration, & it was just as enjoyable as the first. Our table had a great view of the harbor, which was perfect for watching the sunset. We ordered the coconut crunchy shrimp & whipped ricotta meatballs to share with the table. I had the lobster bisque, my mom tried the spiced ahi, my sister got the caesar salad, & my dad chose the captain's herb-crusted, slow-roasted prime rib. Where to start? This restaurant might be the worst experience we have had and we have seen some questionable restaurants over the past few years. Starting with the entrance, staff directed us to the spiral stair entrance, insisting this was the only entrance, which isn't wide enough for two directional traffic so we were stuck waiting for a few leaving parties to make their way up. Minus one for design and execution of the first impression. Looking back, this was by far the least of our worries. Next, there were drunk patrons who were stumbling around the property and bumping into tables and almost falling on the floor. As nice restaurants go, this is a new one for how small the dining room was and the zero staff assistance or intervention. Now we get to food and service... buckle up. We begin with normal service if a tad slow but as drinks arrive, they set down an alcoholic drink for someone who ordered a non-alcoholic drink and didn't clarify which drink until we asked to confirm. We then are served our meals, well some of our meals. Anyone who ordered a salad had to wait an additional 20 minutes when everyone else was almost done. What were the servers doing? Standing around or nowhere to be seen. We had to ask someone who wasn't our server after our server failed to bring the salad when we mentioned what was missing. The drinks ordered, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, were quite plain and frankly bad. As for the steaks, the meat had a "left out too long in a street market" smell, the flavor was consistent with that smell, and one had as much fat as edible meat if not more. For dessert, we had ordered a lava cake when we placed our initial order and made painstakingly clear there was a severe nut allergy and the server made mention they would make sure the health crumble was not on the dish when brought. After the meal experience we had, we hoped there was some redemption with the dessert. Then it came, with the health crumble. Update: one person from our party threw up the steak that night and had a stomach ache the next couple days. Have had safer and much more satisfying meals from cheaper and faster street stands. read more

Found this place while on anniversary trip. Happy hour is where it is at! We spent like $48 on 4 delicious apps and 2 drinks. And the view is priceless. It was a bit of a luck of the draw on getting a table... but we got one by the window and it was legit. Eden was really sweet and welcoming. Ok the lettuce wraps are a. MUST! The peanut sauce should be bottled. The sliders and fries were good and the coconut shrimp were a bit of a miss. But again, for the price it was amazing! They were "fancy" but there were a few missing technicalities... the bussers were a little less professional and the heaters were disheveled and blocking the views. those are both just observations that didn't impact my want to go back. Honestly the worst part was hoping to get a table for happy hour.... we got lucky! We will be back for lettuce wraps for sure! read more
