We had really high expectations that quickly came to a crashing halt. The service was incredibly poor, even though the section was half full. The oyster sampler was a mess, it was a guessing game which was which. The entrees were a disgusting disaster. I ordered the filet, generally incredibly hard to mess up. It was crispy burnt. I tested it to ensure it wasn't just a seasoning, it was horrid. Waiting a solid 25 mins for this waiter to return to check on the food he dumped was infuriating. He came back with a raw piece of prime rib. I'd suggest anywhere but this waste. I was happy to try a new restaurant especially on the water. Too bad it was a crazy windy day. Aside from signs and menus flying around, it was a great experience. I also realize this was at no fault of the restaurant. I was seated outside while waiting for my cousin who is always fashionably late. My server brought me a menu and helped me sort though a tasty menu. When my cousin came, the server returned to take my cousins order. He was extremely accommodating as he provided her a regular menu aside from the small paper menu placed on the table due to Covid. Our food was correct and hot. The service was fast and efficient. My prime rib sandwich was extremely tasty after being dipped in au jus. This was a recommendation made by the server and it delivered. My cousin enjoyed her meal as well. No complaints. I had not been here in a few years and was excited when my adult daughter booked it for Saturday night for a family celebration. When I arrived, my daughter was outside and seemed agitated. Went to Chart House for an early lunch, we made a reservation but it was fairly empty. Gorgeous restaurant located right on the water, we were seated promptly and the waiter came with our waters. We ordered a Cobb salad and fish tacos; both were delicious and filling. There were two soft shelled tacos and the salad was very large. Don't be fooled by the location and atmosphere of this restaurant, as the upsides stop there. I chose Chart House for our NYE dinner but we were left disappointed and with empty stomachs due to how bad the food came out. For starters, the lobster bisque was over-salted and the chopped salad was wilted and not fresh. For mains, the prime rib was bland and grey, and tasted closer to an under-seasoned ribeye steak with no sear. The filet mignon on the surf and turf looked presentable but had very little sear on the outside despite the charred pattern. The steak was watery and tasted like it was steamed. The truffle seabass didn't have hints of truffle and only tasted of salt. Desserts lava cake and cheesecake tasted on par to supermarket bought desserts. Service wise we also had some issues. Our server was very nice but accidentally spilt our soup and utensils over us on two occasions. Easily my worst restaurant experience of 2023, and we ended up needing to find a second restaurant for NYE dinner. This is to give comment on our dining experience tonight. It was our first time in the restaurant and I just want to say the food was good. The problem was with our server, Manfredi. After he got our food order and dropped our drinks, he never checked back on us until he asked if we needed the check. We wanted to get some drink refills but he never came back to our table. I spoke to the one of the managers at the front desk and told her my concern but I'm not sure if she's going to do anything. All she did was apologize and that was it. We came here for an early Mother's Day dinner the day before Mother's day and sat by the window overlooking the water. We would say that food was 4/5 (or 3.8 out of 5) but service was a 2/5 truly. Our waiter was a nice guy but everything took forever and he had no urgency. We had to ask 3 times for a water refill and even then it took him 5 more minutes. We waited for one bottled beer for close to 30 minutes while cocktails (cocktails!!!) came out quicker. We ordered a mojito flight (3 flavors) and the guy seriously offered us just one flavor (they were out of the other 2) for the same whopping price of $35. We put in the order for the lava cake (takes 30 minutes) before we even ordered anything else and we still waited close to an hour after getting our meals to get the lava cake (he didn't ring it up obviously). You could see tables around us with other servers were getting in and out quite quicker than we did. Foodwise: crab dip was amazing but baguette could be softer, with tons of crab included in the dip. The clam chowder and cream of crab soup were fantastic but the chopped salad had wilted and sad looking lettuce within. I asked for the 7 oz filet to be medium and it came out pretty much well done. Mashed potatoes and side of cream spinach/mushrooms were excellent. Basically the seafood items were definitely the shinning star here! The swordfish blackened was awesome as well. Two of us got the prime rib and said it didn't melt in their mouth/had a lot of fat so that was a pass. Drinks: espresso martini was great and also quite strong. Cucumber martini was also great but dirty martini was lack luster. If you are in a rush, I wouldn't recommend this place as we sat here for almost 3 hours. read more

My family and I dined at Chart House to celebrate a birthday! When we arrived our reservation was ready and we were promptly seated! Our server was Charles and he provided very prompt service! The food was delicious and we enjoyed the shrimp cocktail appetizer. We are on the patio and there was no issues with any kinds of flies or other bugs. We had a filet and twin lobster tails, shrimp salad with avocado and the salmon entree. It was amazing! The only complaint was that we order the special $26 smoked bourbon and there were no big rocks available. The server at no point made us aware that it was not available. First time at Chart House, which is located on the beautiful waterfront of Old town Alexandria. The crab dip appetizer was creamy and flavorful. Entrees: My sister elected to have the 7oz Filet mignon with side garlic mashed and creamed spinach. That steak was cooked to perfection and the star side was the creamed spinach!!! Oh it was delicious, tasted like spinach dip!! My entree was the blackened salmon tops with Baja Shrimp and side of mashed potatoes. The salmon and potatoes were delicious. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because the front end staff was great. Honestly, the cooks fell flat on this one. How can you have a seaside restaurant charging that much for cream of crab soup and have it be so lackluster? It was not creamy, almost grainy is the only word I can use to describe it, lacking flavor, plenty of crab meat with it and no bread served with it. I've had better at dives than what was served here. My wife got the prime rib which was supposed to come with mashed potatoes but apparently they ran out of mashed potatoes so they just put the orzo on instead without consulting us, the runner just showed up with it like that and the prime rib was ok. I had the sea bass which was decent enough but again, lackluster. The view was great, wait staff was great and atmosphere was great but I paid about $150 for a meal that was worth $70 at best. I've been to this location before and the Annapolis location and have never been disappointed in Chart House, I expected much better than this disappointing visit read more

I enjoyed my meal at Chart House this past weekend. I hadn't been in years and was in the mood for seafood and a nice ambiance. We started with the coconut shrimp (absolutely delicious) and the bakes crab dip (cheesy and flavorful). Then for main courses I had the stuffed shrimp and the bf had the salmon. We both really enjoyed the food. I had a slice of key lime pie which was the star of the show! It was the type of key lime that has little lime pieces in it and OMGeeee it was so good! I was to greedy and started eating before getting a picture of it but it was served with whipped cream and looked as good as it tasted. Our sever Karim was great. Very attentive, honest and helpful with making selections. I took a point off because of the cleanliness of the restaurant itself. That carpet has got 2 go!! read more

WE WILL NEVER BE BACK. I almost never write reviews but this one has to be written. We were visiting Alexandria for one night and we were really looking forward to a beautiful dinner out with great seafood and views. We love sitting at the bar usually but at this restaurant it was a mistake. Our backs were to the view which is puzzling. Why position your bar so that patrons cannot see out to the water? It was such a small bar compared to how large the restaurant could accommodate. We ordered cocktails and they were nice. Margarita and a Stoli on the rocks. We ordered the fried coconut shrimp. Very tasty. As time went by we started to notice that the staff started doing their loads of dishes right in front of our bar seats. The big bus trays of dirty glasses were stacked just in front of my dinner plate and a smelly wet dish rag wadded up inches from my fork. I started to realize that no one paid any attention to detail here. I looked just beyond my husband's seat and there were cleaning spray bottles and old used straws scattered on the bar top. Not to mention a large (3 ft x 2 ft) portable air conditioner sitting next to him as well. The bar back was unkempt. Margarita salt everywhere, strewn cocktail stick etc. It was apparent that no one cared about the appearance of anything here. It went from bad to worse when we asked to settle up and pay our bill. The bar tender explained that she gave our bill to another customer and they had paid it. She suggested that we pay the other bill. It was a very similar total so we agreed regardless. She took our credit card and disappeared for a ridiculously long time. Then she came back and said that the computer couldn't process the transaction. We asked to speak with the manager so she disappeared again. My husband had to go wander the restaurant to find someone so we could pay this bill and get the heck out. He stood at the front of the lobby asking for assistance while staff members strolled by and pretended not to see him. We were completely at our wits end so we dropped some cash on the bar and walked out. The Chart House used to be a special place to go and celebrate a birthday or anniversary. It has totally changed for the worse. Patrons were dining in tee shirts, jeans and sneakers. The guy who sat next to me was wearing sweatpants and a white tee shirt with a basketball tank over it. All during our dinner we suffered through a young boy who decided that the dining room was his opportunity to run laps and scream. His parents were talking to other adults at their table and he was pining for attention. For an hour this kid ran back and forth while screeching. Servers were getting used to dodging the kid. Another lady at the bar looked at me and we both rolled our eyes. What could have been a lovely adult evening out turned into a major disappointment. A disappointed unfortunately we are experiencing more and more at restaurants. This place needs a major overhaul of management to improve the service quality and customer experience. On September 3rd I came to this establishment for a 40th birthday party. The party was confirmed as a party of 22 via but when our guest arrived there was 1 extra person which made the party a party of 23! Once we all got to the table and seated it took about 20 mi it's for someone to come and take our drink orders after I got up and asked the waitress would we be able to take orders! I was kind of perturbed because for 23 people there was only 1 waitress!!!! (And by no means do I blame anything on the waitress) as she did the best she could do! After drinks were served I asked the waitress to serve basically the first course which was the salad! Now keep in mind we the party had a present menu. Once the salad was served it was WARM, WITHERED and DRENCHED with salad dressing! One of our guest had a bug in her salad (noted in the posted picture). I asked to speak to the manager on duty. She wasn't worried about the fact that our WHOLE dinner party lost their appetite and no longer wanted the salad she was worried about the reputation of the store meaning she wanted to explain to me how that was not the establishments fault and how the salad is packaged and how that was a produce issue and that she was going to speak to the people in produce! She then brought a small plate out with a glob of what she says is fresh salad for our dinner guest! Well the whole entire party was disgusted! The WHOLE ENTIRE party states that they did not wait their salad anymore nor did they want "fresh" ones! I asked how will we be compensated to the manager. At that moment the manager leaves and doesn't come back for a while! So while we are sitting in awe I then have to go back to the waitress and asks can she please take out food orders because we are on a time frame! She does not but in the meantime I asked the manager could she please get help with the tables! The manager proceeds to tell me that they were only expecting 16 people at first then at the last minute she was told 22 people and then when we came in and added the 23rd person it threw it all off! I was still confused because 1 waitress couldn't even take care of 16 people by themselves! IT JUST ISN'T FAIR TO THE PATRONS OR THE STAFF at this time! The waitress finally takes our order and when the food arrived they sprinkled in 1-2 extra waitresses..... but at this point every one is disgusted about eating the food because of the bug in the salad they have no faith in the food! Once we received the food the guest picked all they the food to make sure no extra bugs were in the food even I pick they mines and was just uncomfortable about the food! (I know some may read and oh wow just for a little bug) but honestly I have never and didn't grow up eating bugs! I'm most upset because I asked the manager how will we be compensated for this misfortune the manager told Me because our meal was preset that they would not be able to comp for the salad (WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD). Instead they took off $166.00 room rental fee which I feel was not equivalent enough to finding a WHOLE ENTIRE BUG IN ONE MEAL! After I was told that basically they will not come the salad I asked the waitress to bring the desert out as I was walking pass the kitchen I literally saw and heard our waitress ask for help with someone helping her serve the desert to us. (This waitress had to deal with ALOT 23 people a bug in the food etc) by no means did I feel the waitress was at fault! What disturbs me the most is that: 1) THERE WAS A BUG IN THE FOOD and it seemed like it was a normal deal! 2) the event coordinator has been emailed he name is Amanda! She was emailed on Tuesday the 6th about the situation and she STILL HAS NOT ANSWERED THE EMAIL! 3) Chart house is one of my favorite establishments and for only be offered $166.00 off of a $1,500.00 plus bill is absolutely absurd. 4) There was only 1 server I feel like for Chart house to be of the caliber establishment that they are that they would at-least email back or respond I highly recommended this restaurant and to be ignored like this is disheartening! Once again not seasoned. The Kim Chee Calamari was interesting as it was all fried and my stomach did not agree with it at all. I would not recommend. Came here when the outdoor patio was open. Seemed pretty safe during covid. Tables were 6ft apart. Waiters were all wearing masks and gloves and I saw staff cleaning the tables pretty thoroughly too. The Coconut shrimp was cooked perfectly and perfect temp. However, the coconut dipping sauce tasted like watery vanilla icing which wasn't really pleasant. Unfortunately Mahi mahi was way overcooked and chewy. Didn't taste the macadamia at all. We had an amazing experience here for our anniversary! I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and the service they provided us. I mentioned it was our anniversary when making the reservation, and when we arrived at the restaurant, they had two custom menus wishing us happy anniversary and a signed card from the staff! They also signed "Happy Anniversary" with a candle on our dessert plate! Our waitress was incredibly kind and patient, answering our questions & making me a custom drink I had asked for (peach sweet tea--delicious!). The clam chowder was absolutely delicious, some of the best we've ever tasted, and the mashed potatoes were amazing as well. To be honest, the rest of the food we ordered (coconut shrimp, prime rib, creamed spinach, shrimp pasta, lava cake) were mediocre. However, we didn't even really notice this until we were thinking about it later because of how blown away we were by the thoughtfulness of the staff! Even though we weren't fans of most of the dishes we had (prime rib & shrimp seemed over cooked, pasta was very salty, creamed spinach seemed bland, and the lava cake was also not very flavorful) we absolutely would come back to give some other dishes a shot & because the service made our night so special, we were smiling the whole night! The restaurant itself is beautiful and in a nice location. One thing I would say that was a little odd is the music--it was current pop, and some explicit songs at that. I would have thought jazz or vintage style music would be more suiting to the classy feeling of the restaurant and the beautiful riverside location. This is a nice restaurant by the Waterfront of Old Town Alexandria. From the outside, it looks like a little lighthouse restaurant. My friends and I had lunch here on a Saturday and found the ambiance really nice and the food really good. They welcome walk in but highly encouraged reservation. We did not have a reservation but we were able to go in, they sat us at the bar since there are no available tables. It was still fun. We ordered drinks, mostly non alcoholic. Then we grabbed lunch. I ordered "The Lunchbox" which came with a choice of soup and an entree for $17. Good deal! Got clam chowder soup and fried cod sandwich. Taste good and it came in a big portion. My friends ended up getting a diner burger and fish&chips and they said they all tasted good. The staff are nice, accommodating and polite! Our server made sure we got all we need. They also have a nice bathroom. I had dinner at the Chart House during Valentines Day weekend. We got the pre fixe dinner for two. I had the lobster bisque as my appetizer. It was flavorful and savory. My date had the strawberry champagne salad. This was equally delicious. It has sliced strawberries, candied pecans, and a champagne vinaigrette. As our entrees we selected the sea bass topped with a butter crab sauce. Fingerling potatoes and grilled asparagus were the sides. For dessert we shard the chocolate lava cake topped with a scoop of ice cream, chocolate syrup and bits of toffee. This was divine. I am looking forward to returning.
