    5* Burger

This places waffles back and forth between 5* and 4*. Tonight was a 5* night. Thanks to our waitress, Lana, who made it an awesome experience despite being packed on the patio. So, wow, I have had their burger many times and tonight was superb. I added bacon and it was perfectly cooked. The bun held together on the bottom despite the patty being very juicy and full of flavor. Loved it! I liked the fries, they were crunchy and tasty. I love their sweet chili sauce (try it on the wings!) and had it on the side for both the burger and fries. So good! Love the front patio for such a beautiful night. Give them a try.

Nice ambience & good live music. This is the perfect place for socializing. The bar service was good! Unfortunately the prime rib and salmon were overcooked. The prime rib was the biggest sin, it was tough as leather. The shrimp were also under-seasoned, but the texture was good. The oysters were delicious! I found that everything else was similar to a regular buffet. Overall it's decent, but I was disappointed by the food.

I came in with co-workers for dinner. Originally there was confusion when they sat us at the table and we did not have a server for a while until we reached out to the hostess. When we finally got our waitress, she was super friendly and attentive. The decor and views for the restaurant is beautiful. The food was okay and fairly priced. The shrimp and grits was pretty good, juicy shrimp; the flounder was good, though it could've used a little more seasoning; the French onion soup was just alright it wasn't as hot as expected, even with the melted cheese on top; the crab dip was rich, flavorful, and served flaming, which was a nice touch; te seafood salad was decent, but the dressing felt a bit on the heavy side; the Brussel sprouts lacked flavor and was not cooked all the way through; the drinks were refreshing and tasted great. They do have a happy hour, but it's only available if you sit in the bar area. There is a pay, parking structure below the restaurant. Overall, it was pretty decent. Beautiful place for dinner.

The server was very busy and overwhelmed. He was pretty rude when we first arrived, but he did apologize and changed as the night progressed which was nice. There was a private party in the upstairs area using a microphone that was VERY loud. It was difficult to hear the people at my table and have any conversation. We had 4 people in my party and only 1 person enjoyed their entree. We had the crab cakes, swordfish, salmon and the lambshank. All of the seafood was overcooked and dry. It seamed precooked and reheated. Nothing was fresh. The Washington state oysters were delicious. Food did come out very fast. The manager came around and we expressed our concerns. He thanked us but made no efforts to make anything better. The women's bathroom was dirty, paper towels were empty, liquid on the floors, toilet paper rolls on the floor with no holder for it. I would not return.

I had high expectations for this restaurant but it was just okay. Our server was amazing and very knowledgeable of everything. She did great with our large group and lots of questions. The crab cake sandwich was all I was in the mood for and it was okay. My friend loved the shrimp and scallop rissoto. The crab dip however, was really good. However, they said it came flaming (like a whole presentation), but we didn't get that part. No big deal, because it was delicious! Overall, it was okay.

Stopped by for some nice ambiance and some good cocktails. This place is beautiful, wasn't my first time visiting so I was a bit familiar with h the environment. The restaurant seems pretty big-with two levels however, I've never been to the second level. The service is impeccable, I didn't have to ask one thing. The servers/bartenders and man all seem to be on the same page. My server named song-who was also the bartender was and is excellent!!!!! He makes the best drinks and he's quick with it. I really liked how the staff was working as a team. Even the managers were working hard and lending a helping hand which is something you rarely see nowadays. Everyone was so pleasant and worked with a smile. Every single employee that passed my table asked if things were okay or if anything was needed The ambiance is beautiful!!! The outdoor seating was closed due to the weather but the view was still present.... I ordered what I believe was called "The fisherman's catch". The platter came with Salmon, 2 stuffed shrimp a crab cake and 2 sides. I chose green beans and mashed potatoes. The food didn't take long and arrived looking marvelous... The green beans were so good that I think I finished them before I touched anything else--well I did taste a little bit of mashed potatoes once my plate was sat down and they were good but they were lukewarm. The salmon was cooked to perfection and so was the crab cake I didn't care too much for the crab cake. The crab cake seemed to have too much breading for my liking. I guess I'm spoiled by the MD lump/jumbo lump crab cakes. don't think the menu said lump crab-only says Maryland crab cake. The flavor was there but I wouldn't order it again. I had chill wings to go which smelled amazing-however they were breaded and didn't hold up well overnight. (My fault).... Last but not least-I had a slice of blueberry cheesecake which was amazing..... It arrived with a side of caramel and a side of whipped cream. I like those place it's not too dark and not too bright. It had a good vibe and everyone seems to work hard. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try if you're in Old Town looking for a nice spot to dine. Shout out to my server Song-I hope I spelled it right!!! lol

Well, it's been a minute since I've been to this Blackwall Hitch, but my partner and I returned to celebrate two of our friends birthdays. I was hoping it was better than my last visit, and it was. There was a band playing, which set a nice vibe. They had the usual far of spectacular brunch food, but we did notice something. The usual unlimited mimosa option was gone. And, it was likely for the best. That may have been all the difference at this location. If so, it worked. I had my favorite, waffles, and they did not disappoint! The bacon was TOP TIER! Thin, crispy and perfect. The red velvet cupcakes were divine. My partner had the oysters and thought they were tasty. I usually don't have the oysters at brunch because they seem to be.... I don't know, lower quality with no brine. But she said they had a slight brine to them and were good. We did have a few mimosas, the pineapple and mango. They were decent. Omar, our server, needed help, but he kept trying to get it right. For the most part, it was a good brunch. Nobody had any major issues. FYI, the gratuity is built in.

Came for happy hour on a Friday afternoon and had no problem getting a seat at the bar. The place is huge and we had a nice side view of the river from our seats. We each ordered the happy hour old fashioned which was pretty good. The food was good but both items felt like it was missing something to make it great. Crispy Brussels- nice crisp to them and the bites of salty pancetta were a nice touch. These felt like they needed a sauce or dip though. We liked them better when paired with garlic aioli or the chili sauce that came with the calamari. calamari- good flavor and the fried peppers added a spicy kick. Suggest asking for a side of remoulade to go with these. The calaMari rings could have been a little crispier for our liking but overall we enjoyed this dish.

Came for my mom's bday dinner and they were great. Our waitress was very attentive and present. I ordered the swordfish and it was seasoned very well and it had mashed potatoes and Brussel sprout that I liked but they were a little heavy with the horseradish I think. We had crab dip and calamari and that was all very good as well. My husband had some wings and they really are jumbo! And the lister and crab soup which basically tasted like minestrone soup. I would return.

Amazing! This was a great birthday celebration for my Mom. We made a reservation for 8 people the day prior, with no issues and had an amazing and tentative server. It has that upscale casual dining feel with an open vibe on the water in Old Town. We ordered an assortment of dishes as well as the special. 9/10 across the board - the crab stuffed rockfish was the best thing I've tasted in while, the Brussels sprouts and Mac were delicious but the special (whole filleted branzino) needed some doctoring. Our cocktails weren't consistent - we ordered the Habanero Passion - good on the first round but had to be sent back on the 2nd. Definitely a good place to chat, grab food and a cocktail with a serene view of the Potomac

I liked this restaurant. I thought that it had a cool atmosphere and was nicely decorated. The food was decent, although I would probably try something different next time. I had the special for the day seafood combination. It was basic. The shrimp and grits didn't disappoint though. The service was friendly. 4 Stars

This is my first time to this great restaurant, and my eight year old niece was with us. We were quickly seated, and we were to request the chicken tenders child's meal quickly, which resulted in a happy child. My friend has a gluten allergy, and we were assured this was not a problem. The menu is large, and it has a large selection of a great variety of dishes. My friend opted for the crab stuffed rockfish, and I had the braised short rib cresto di gallo (a pasta shape I have never even heard of!). My friend also ordered a side salad as a starter, and salad was large with several different t vegetables including carrots, cucumbers, and different lettuces. The mains were incredible, though mine was huge!!!! The pasta was a perfect al dente, and it was filled with tender and flavorful short rib, mushrooms, carrots, and a succulent sauce. My friend's rockfish was beyond beautiful. The rice and corn mixture it sat on was a perfect accompaniments for the flaky fish. My niece's chicken tenders were a hit with a great coating and lots of French fries. We ordered desserts, and this is where some comedy came in. My niece ordered the chocolate cake with ice cream. The kitchen found a gluten free chocolate torte with cinnamon ice cream, and I had the peach and blueberry cobbler with cinnamon ice cream. What came to our table were five desserts, as we were brought full servings (three scoops) of vanilla and cinnamon ice cream in addition to the torte, chocolate cake, and cobbler. The torte also came with a single scoop of cinnamon ice cream. So much dessert! We should have clarified the order. Most of the ice cream was consumed, but there was still some waste. It was a great meal.

Came here for a later dinner with a large party of 16 and had a pretty good experience. It's huge inside and the had live music going downstairs. I think it was a bit of a different vibe since we were on the top level where the large table is, but still had a good dinner considering how big our party was. We got the truffle fries and Caesar salad to start which were fantastic, then I got the Chesapeake flatbread for my main and it was delish!! So fresh and had a lot on it. Our service was decent as well. I want to come back when it's warmer out to sit outside because I'm sure it's a whole different experience when you feel like you're on the water.

    Inside. Cool quote.

Especially in the winter time with the white lights lining King St outside. Tonight, we had an amazing meal prepared by Chef Tony. It was delicious too! I don't even like oysters, but I liked these. Next came the Betty's buns and beet salad. The beet salad is such an interesting preparation with ricotta, raw and cooked beets, some herbs, orange segments and pistachios. I really enjoyed the brightness of the dish. And who doesn't love a good warm bun with butter? The entrees were really beautifully plated and delicious too. The catfish was our favorite with a delicious broth, poured table-side. I had explained some food allergies and although the final receipt had those allergies marked, the dessert came out covered with one of my allergens and I had to notice, chase them down to tell them then wait and get it replaced, which they were very nice about but made me concerned that everything else I've been eating might've not have been safe. Again, last time I was here I felt completely fine afterwards and they were very on top of avoiding cross contamination for my celiac disease. Ultimately, I wouldn't come back here -- I was so disappointed at the experience when I really wanted a special night for my husband's birthday. I was shocked that this was recently named one of the top 50 restaurants in NOVA and had so many positive recent reviews. What am I missing? Majestic café, Josephine, Thompson's Italian are all tastier options a short walk away.

The space itself is historic and fun, which matches the overall vibes of the neighborhood. Our server was on top of things throughout the meal, even with a large group and many special requests! The menu is a mix of fun takes on classics, with everything that we had tasting great! I had the Shrimp Po Boy, which was a sizeable serving and tasted great! I loved the thick, crispy fries on the side! Finished the meal with the lemon cake, which was a refreshingly sweet finisher! Overall, a really solid spot for casual, comfortable food in the area!

Both times we've gone, we've ended up in the whiskey bar section. It's cozy, a little tucked away, and honestly the perfect setting for good drinks and good conversation. We also got lucky on both visits because Jessica took care of us each time. She's fantastic. She's witty, sharp, and knows the menu and the whiskey list inside and out. She makes choosing drinks or food feel effortless and fun, and she brings a ton of personality without ever overdoing it... she reads the group pretty well. The cocktails are excellent, but the whiskey selection is where they really stand out. You can tell the bartenders know what they're doing. The pours, the recommendations, the way they talk about the bottles on the shelf, it all shows real skill and pride. The food has been consistently great. We've tried the burgers, the chicken sandwich, the braised short rib, and the crab dip, and every single one has been a hit. Flavorful, well made, and worth coming back for. The only thing I probably wouldn't order again is the pulled pork. It wasn't bad, just not the style or flavor profile I look for in a place like this. Do it.

I called ahead and spoke with Todd, who was incredibly kind and accommodating for our party of five. When we arrived, Todd greeted us and seated us right away. He truly radiates light and joy, setting the tone for the entire evening. Our server, Alison, was an absolute gem--attentive, personable, and on top of everything. The food was outstanding. We ordered the ribeye, New York steak, and filet mignon, all cooked to perfection. The Oysters Rockefeller were superb! I had asked for my daughter's meal to come out as soon as possible, and they made it happen without hesitation, which we really appreciated. For sides, we had the Brussels sprouts--perfectly balanced, sweet but not overly so--and the creamed corn, which was absolutely on point. We didn't end up ordering dessert, but the options looked amazing and tempting! Todd came by our table to check in, which added such a personal touch. The ambiance was lovely, and as we were leaving, Todd walked us outside and spent a few moments chatting with us--it truly meant a lot. Todd and Alison made our experience at The Oaks unforgettable, along with the incredible food. Thank you both--we hope to see you again soon! --SoCal Visitors

Lots of wood and dark colors. Great service from Shawn. We tried the Ribeye and NY Strip. Both were ok. Not much seasoning. Lots of marbling. Both had significant sections of fat. For me, wasn't the best cut for either. Both were ok steaks. We had the fries and cream corn. The fries are made with a beef fat. Tasty. The cream corn has a lot of cheese on top and throughout (see pic). That wasn't a favorite for me. Was more like a mac and cheese. Pricing was for a Ruth Chris experience but fell flat on delivery. As an example, went to The Wharf a few days later and had their NY strip, with crab cake, and sides all for the same price. It was a much superior cut of steak and the flavors were fantastic.

When I asked about the discrepancy, I was told the systems sometimes differ by a few cents. The adjustment was made when I requested to pay the correct total, but the response suggested that questioning "only two cents" was unreasonable. My concern was never the amount; it was the principle. When a customer is shown one accurate total and then asked to authorize a higher one without explanation, it creates the appearance of taking money that was not part of the stated charge. If I may add my two cents as a former patron and frequent restaurant guest: trust matters in a dining experience. Even a few unexplained pennies raise a reasonable question--if this occurs repeatedly throughout the day, where do those extra cents go? A couple of cents from one guest, a few more from another, eventually add up. Transparency in billing prevents that concern. When a discrepancy is presented without a clear explanation and a patron is made to feel foolish for asking about it, it leaves a bad taste, regardless of how enjoyable the meal may have been.

Sadly, all my research fell short for Hummingbird. Apparently there is a Monday "special menu" that is limited and also has features not available other days. I went tonight with my heart set on the whole grilled fish and hush puppies that I reviewed on the website multiple times. Not available. I still wanted fish, and there was a salmon linguine option. This dish is only offered on Mondays. It was flavorful but heavier than I wanted for the evening. I was clearly upset, however the food was still good, giving the 4 star review. Salmon linguine: 5/5 crispy skin. Lemon cream sauce that was the perfect tang. Spring salad: 5/5 fresh light salad. The spiced pecans were a great bonus. Hummingbird Cake: got this to go! Great and moist. If you do not like banana this is not the dessert for you. The Monday night menu is a great option as there is a 3 course meal for $40! But again, many of the standouts that I heard and wanted to try were not available. I would go back on another night to try those. Apparently there is a happy hour as well. The menu is not posted online, but there is mention of it in the timing, unlike the Monday menu. update online menus! #moralofthestory Nice patio view looking at the water. As the sun went down, there were a few mice as noted in other reviews. I feel like this could be mitigated but also you are sitting outside. Idk! Great service.

We waited over an hour just to get drinks. And the staff were too stupid to pitch in and help each other. The entire staff including the managers should be replaced. Our food only arrived after being seated for 90 min. Atmosphere was decent, old 18th century decor with cheaply framed reproductions tacked in the wall that are crooked, but the food was uninspired and unappetizing. The strip steak I had was thinner than the sole of most shoes and 30% gristle. The fries had wilted by being steamed under the warming tray. The "melody veg" was mostly undercooked cauliflower. Wait staff were entirely too busy taking care of other tables, and we saw lots of other food orders going out before ours showed up. People who came in after us - had food before we did. I got no water. No bread. No glass for my bottled beer/drink which was $12.00. We had to as for a glass three times for my beer before one was given. At that point, I was hotter under the collar than my plate of food. Only redeeming part of the meal was a bowl of peanut soup. I grade this experience a solid "F." Don't even accept an invitation here, make excuses to go elsewhere or get away even. It's not cheap, it's not a fair value, the service is abysmal, and you don't get a decent feeling of atmosphere from that period of history. Seats were uncomfortable, and not sturdy. No one with impairments nor the disabled should attempt the main entrance door. In fact, they will likely find the restaurant to can't be navigated. Bottom Line: Ugh. Not worth it.

Hank's Oyster Bar - Alexandria VA…read more For many years, Old Town Alexandria has been a dependable friend to restaurants and to those who visit the same. As an Old Town resident, I first visited Hank's Oyster Bar 15 years ago, when its space on King Street was a beloved, if cramped, destination for guests from all over the DMV (and beyond). Since then, a sibling Hank's Oyster Bar established itself when the Wharf arose from the docks of the historical D.C. fish market on Maine Ave. SW. Around the same time, the King Street Hank's relocated from King Street to its current location at the intersection of N. St. Asaph Street and Montgomery Street. The location makes sense - parking at the former location was just about impossible. Parking is possible at the new location, but it's still in Old Town, so plan ahead if you're arriving by car. The restaurant's location now is in the northeast quadrant of Old Town - about eight blocks north of the intersection of King Street and North Washington Street - and can be reached from the Metro Rail Stations at either King Street or Braddock Road, using the DASH free buses - Routes 30 or 31. (Exit the bus at Madison St & N Saint Asaph St if using Bus 30 or 31 from Braddock Road; exit the bus at Montgomery St & N Saint Asaph St if using the bus from King Street Metro.) Although I have yet to try it, Hank's Pasta Bar also operates from this location as well - although the website reflects the pasta menu is intended for carry-out orders only. Still, if the folks in the kitchen set their minds to offer diverse pasta dishes the same way they approach serving oysters and seafood, you're likely to be in particularly capable hands for carry-out and delivery service. For my recent visit, I was looking for a light lunch served at a place with a decent bar, and Hank's fits that description. At the recommendation of the host, I took the elevator up to the rooftop floor - a light, spacious, clean, and hospitable dining room. I ordered the appetizer griddled crab cake (a single grilled cake with Cole slaw, $19) along with a Narragansett lager and Maker's Mark. A perfect selection for a light lunch, all in a relaxed and comfortable space.

Along with the two dozen oysters that we had, we also had the shrimp Poboy and seared Dorado. Both were amazing probably the best po boythat I've had and the fish was cooked perfectly. The poor boy was super buttered. I had Texas toast to accompany the fried shrimp and the shrimp was perfectly cooked not chewy at all. There's a good amount of mayo and sauce along with the sandwich which made everything very flavorful and it was lighting up with the coleslaw that I combined on the top. Perfect light crisp from the shrimp and bread. I like the oysters they're great for Maryland; little bit of brine and they tasted fresh. I liked the marinara sauce that came with it. We ordered a second dozen since the first batch was quite good. I've tried better ones on the West Coast, but for the East Coast these were quite good. If you don't taste much, you should definitely chew a lot more on the oysters and the flavor will start to come out. The Dorado was cooked perfectly and the sauce of it was amazing. I think it was some sort of basil, oil, and other sauce combined, but regardless it tasted so good. It reminded me of a fish dish that I got back in Washington state. The drinks were good but quite strong. I had the not your nana's banana, but I was not a fan since it was quite strong. We got the watermelon punch which was great. Wish we had gotten two of those. The atmosphere is good although quite busy we came on Valentine's Day so they're a lot of couples and most of the tables were filled, but we were still able to sit down on a small table next to the door a little bit cold when the door is open, but it's understandable since the restaurant is is making the most out of the space we still enjoyed our dinner. Service was OK. Our waiter was nice, but it sort of seemed like he was putting a fake smile on. I get it though we're probably his 100,000th customer that he's seen. Regardless, we had a good experience and I'll definitely will be back here.
