My wife and I have been going here for a couple of years now. All indications are that there has recently been a change of ownership. We of course feared the worst but so far the food remains good. I am one of those that if I find a particular dish I like at a place I just keep ordering it every time I go. My choice here is the Katsu Chicken plate. Now I don't know what Katsu means. But I am always happy with this plate. Lots of food enough for 2. Comes with macaroni salad some cabbage and lots of steamed rice which I douse with Katsu sauce. I also get the spam musabi. For you millennials or vegans spam is a canned meat product that is big in Hawaii for some reason but it is not that popular around So Cal. The spam musabi is a slice of grilled spam on a molded bed if sushi rice wrapped with a sheet of seaweed. Freaking delicious. Your vegetarian sister would probably have a heart attack looking at the menu here but to bad. I highly recommend this little gem. Support your local small business during these tough times. Your average plate was between $7-$8 dollars. Not bad considering that they add a good amount of food. I got the island grilled beef plate and my husband got the half and half katsu chicken and beef shortribs. They weren't bad, I wish the beef was a little more seasoned but it wasn't bad. My husband's plate was good too. Short ribs were nice and smokey and the chicken was tender and breaded nicely. We also got the cheese shrimp rolls, these were AMAZING !!! I recommend this to cream cheese lovers. The only thing that I would say threw me off was the fact that you had to pay $1 for brown rice substitute. The new kid on the block as far as Hawaiian BBQ food joints go, Char'N Grill does a relatively good job at satisfying cravings for food of this genre. I've only tried the BBQ beef and chicken Katsu combo plate. It came with your standard steamed veggies, white rice, and macaroni salad. They seem to make the Katsu fresh to order so expect a wait. I found the main entree meat items to be flavorful, juicy, and overall delicious. The macaroni salad seemed to be missing something however. It didn't have the onion and vinegar flair that I enjoy in other Hawaiian BBQ spots. I also gave their Spam Musubi a try. I liked the flavor but they seemed to use standard steamed rice as opposed to sticky rice so the Musubi just fell apart after one bite. The young lady who took orders was awesome. She was very pleasant and genuinely cares if you enjoyed your meal and did her best to accommodate any reasonable requests. Would I come back? I definitely would. They have so many different entrees that I would like to try. I'd probably opt for their noodles as a side rather than the Mac salad and I'd skip the Slam Musubi altogether. read more

friends and I came into the plaza for Chinese food because we didn't know what to eat. I coincidentally spoke about how I wished there was Hawaiian food closer to my neighborhood, and low and behold, we pull up, THERE IT IS. The interior is very spacious and clean. Customer service is 10/10, the girl who served us was so polite. I even observed how she was with other customers, and a Spanish speaking family came in and she was so helpful with them as well. You can tell it's basic "Hawaiian food" tweaked to have a more straight forward taste. So the concept is to serve Hawaiian food in a different fashion because it does feel different from smaller family owned places I've tried. It was delicious nonetheless, and they gave us huge portions so my hunger was for sure satiated. I ordered the half&half katsu+short ribs, friend ordered half&half steak+bbq chicken. What I enjoyed as well was the food isn't super greasy. So I could focus on the taste and texture of what I was eating. The short ribs were greaaaaaat! It wasn't grisly whatsoever. The chicken katsu wasn't over breaded. The rice wasn't dry. Although their macaroni salad was on the sweeter side, which I'm not used to having. I love this place! First, the restaurant is always clean and has a great set up. The prices are great and really worth it for what you eat. They have great healthy choices too. This is the second time we've tried this place. The first time they had just opened, and though the food was terrible, I didn't leave a review deciding to chalk it up to Grand Opening issues. When we first walked in, nothing much had changed. It was Friday night and maybe six people in the restaurant. The gal behind the counter wasn't rude, but she wasn't very welcoming either. The decor is Asian and not Hawaiian, but fairly clean. The tables could use a good wipe down, but they weren't terrible. This time, we tried the fried chicken plate, BBQ chicken, the Kalbi short ribs, and the shrimp rolls. The bill was a little over $40. We told the lady when she asked that we'd be eating in, and went and sat down. The wait wasn't bad, but when she called out our order she had packed it to go. Not a big deal, but it wasn't like the place was busy so again, her attitude wasn't stellar. The food was only so-so. Very Asian inspired and not Hawaiian. The beef was drowned in teriyaki sauce, the chicken was salty and again, it all sat on top of clumpy white rice. The macaroni salad, however, was much better, though tasteless. The best thing on the plate were the steamed veggies and for forty bucks that's not very impressive. Basically, it's not a bad joint, but if I wanted Chinese I would definitely go to Mr. You's a few doors down who's food and service is fantastic. Sadly, we won't be coming back here. read more

Ordered the Kalibi Short ribs which came undercooked and the sauce was terrible. On the side there was mac and cheese which didn't have any taste either.
