I've never been to an Ono Hawaiian BBQ so I don't have any comparison. I went for lunch with my husband since we received a coupon in the mail (buy one plate get one free). We ordered the Island Fire Chicken plate, grilled chicken breast plate (I selected teriyaki instead of the lemon pepper), guava pie, and a large drink. It's worth noting that unless specifically listed, they use dark meat chicken. Both plates came with 2 scoops of white rice, 1 scoop of macaroni salad, and 1 scoop of steamed veggies. Island Fire Chicken plate (6/10): my husband ordered this. I did not try it as I do not eat dark meat. The staff likened the spice level to higher than Sriracha. My husband was disappointed it wasn't as spicy as he was anticipating. Keep in mind spice is subjective. He wasn't a fan of the charred bits of chicken as the texture was too tough. He said he'd order it again, but it's nothing to rave home about. Grilled Chicken Breast plate (2/10): I ordered this as it was the only item in the menu with chicken breast (white meat). It was a disappointment. This is completely subjective, but to me, it was giving processed chicken. Like Tyson in the frozen food aisle. Also, it was not cut on the bias so it was difficult to eat. I gave up after one bite. I'll be giving the rest to my dogs. Macaroni salad (7.5/10): tasted good at first, but as I got closer finishing it, it started tasting fishy. I had just raved to my husband about how happy I was that it did NOT have ham. Just to find out it has tuna instead. I do not eat seafood so this was a disappointment. It wasn't great until the fishy taste overpowered it. My husband (who loves tuna) was a fan. Steamed Veggies (5/10): Frankly, it's hard to mess up steamed veggies. I was expecting more broccoli or other veggies on my plate. I got a bed of cabbage and ONE tiny broccoli floret. So did my husband. No shade to cabbage, but I expected more variety based on the menu photos. White Rice (10/10): The only saving grace was the rice. It was as expected. Simple, steamed, white rice. Hula Guava Pie (4/10): My job dropped (literally) when I saw it wrapped in plastic packaging. It was just sitting on the counter between the registers. I guess my greatest disappointment was in expecting it to be like the hand pies at Jollibees or McDonalds. They're obviously not made fresh in house, but they're warmed up and packaging nicely like a sweet little gift. So my expectations were shattered when I got this overpriced pop tart. You can certainly taste the guava on the inside, but it tastes quite processed. I'm a guava snob so I understand I'm being harsh. It did have the same texture as a pop tart. Plenty of parking outside. It's in a private lot in the same complex as a Target and Chick-fil-A. It felt a tad pricey. Without the coupon our total would have been closer to $38. With the coupon we paid $22.80 which felt like a great value since the portions are generous. I love that they have katsu and teriyaki sauces readily available. There's a pump with little cups so you can help yourself. The katsu sauce is vinegary which I'm not a fan of, but my husband enjoyed. We both enjoyed the teriyaki sauce. It wasn't too thin or too thick in texture. The staff was friendly and helpful. My seating recommendation if you dine, as soon as you walk in the door, sit on the right side. The left side is near the restroom (down the hall). I have a very sensitive nose and could smell the cleaning products. It's a non issue if you're not sensitive. Overall, I personally would not be back for myself, but husband enjoyed it. If you're into dark meat, or willing to try a different protein, give it a try and see for yourself. But personally, I've learned Hawaiian food is just not my cup of tea. read more

Not the best BBQ, but they have good deals every now and then that makes it worthwhile to stop by. Their portions are usually okay, if not the most generous or consistent; I've definitely ordered the same thing and had different amounts of meat. I would order to-go, to be honest. Last two times I've been, the inside has had a strange chemical smell. No napkins anywhere, which is strange. I popped in here with friends while they charged up the Tesla nearby. Because I have limited experience dining with this chain I figured I would sample a few things. The beef and chicken combination sounded like a good place to start, and a side of six fried shrimp. It took under 10 minutes to be ready, so that's a plus. The shrimp were a little dry, and the hot sauce was a tad thin, but they tasted fine. The beef is better than the chicken in my opinion, it's not too dry and holds the marinade flavors, whereas the chicken is thin and easy to overcooked. The rice was fine and the atmosphere in the dining room was also good. However, I doubt I'd come here (or another location) because the food quality for the price doesn't inspire me to expand the palate. read more

The food was great.. on this visit I ordered the fried shrimp and white fish plate. I found a small piece of plastic on one of the pieces of shrimp. I brought it up to one of the workers and she happily refunded my order and actually compensated me a new one with no hassle so I considered this great service. The ambiance is ok the music is loud but you can still have a conversation with the person in front or beside you. Everything was clean and well stocked. Never ate here and best buddy brought over some shrimp, macaroni salad with rice on a bed of cabbage. Macaroni salad was epic and shrimp good but the dipping sauce was epic also. Could probably put the sauce on almost anything and it would make it great. Don't usually even like macaroni salad but ate it first. Will definitely go there for a try on everything. I took a star off for customer service. The ladies were not rude but they were not nice or friendly either. When asked about the menu she really had no input and basically said to order whatever I like. I went with the teriyaki chicken lunch plate. I'm a huge fan of the chicken and veggies. If I was eating rice at the time I would have got that as well but the chicken and veggies were very tasty. As for the macaroni salad, I do not like it. It's too thick for me and the taste is off. Later I learned that the macaroni salad is made with tuna and that right there is exactly why I don't like it. I do not like the taste of tuna. The food is surprisingly the same since we started dining/eating at Ono Hawaiian. My son's favorite is the seafood combo. The food is well cooked and really fresh. The serving is actually good for two people. He likes the katsu sauce with it. The servers/workers are very nice and very efficient. Their attention to details are very good. They check the food to make sure everything is there. Extra sauces are given for free or just get some on the self-serve area. The place can be very busy at lunch/dinner hours. There were times that the place was packed, we have to get our food to go. Tables, chairs and floor can be sticky once in a while because of the sauces that were not thoroughly cleaned. The prices went up quite a bit - the higher pay for workers and food ingredients needs to be taken in consideration. All in all, we will keep coming here as long as our budget can cover for it. We came here this past Friday, May 3rd to pickup dinner around 6 pm. I ordered the Chicken combo: half Bbq chicken & half Chicken Katsu with extra macaroni salad instead of veggies. I opted for chicken combo over chicken & beef because it was cheaper. I still paid $15 which seemed excessive considering it was just rice, meat, & macaroni salad. There wasn't much chicken. First of all I really like Ono Hawaiian BBQ. Today I was really disappointed. I ordered the Hawaiian BBQ mixed meal which was suppose to be barbecue chicken, BBQ Beef ribs, andd short ribs. Wheb I got home and got ready to eat I was totally freaking upset to find that the meal they gave me was just the Barbecue chicken. No short ribs, or teriyaki chicken. I don't live near Ono Hawaiian so I just kept the food because I was so hungry. This meal cost me $17.00 freaking dollars! I advise anyone who goes there and orders take out, make sure you check your food before you leave. I wish I had checked before I got all the way home. So disappointed. I would say this is like a Hawaiian style Pollo Tropical. Solid lunch spot, very clean, had plenty of sauces and cutlery available, interesting options like masubi and young coconut. I was greeted right away and my food was ready within 5 min as a walk in. I ordered the bbq beef and chicken lunch combo. All of the meat was marinated incredibly well and it was juicy. The chicken was thighs and it had very little fat, cooked perfectly. The rice tasted fresh, and the veggies were cooked al dente, not limp or overcooked like other places. Picked up Dinner last night from this location. 2nd time here and i gotta say this location sucks!!!! The guy was working hard while the women was just lazy and getting in the way. She wasnt putting orders together right and the poor guy had to keep redoing her mistakes. I've never had trouble with service here. The food is amazing. My mom is particularly in love with the mac salad, so I always get an extra side for her. It's always a toss up between whether the beef bbq or chicken katsu is better for me. My only complaint would be the wait time after ordering. My go-to order is either a half order of katsu/rice/macaroni or the full chicken katsu order (sub a side of rice for an extra side of macaroni salad). The latter is plenty to share or for two meals. If I substitute rice, I usually just eat rice from home! #lifehacks If I'm in the mood, I'll also get a side of spam musubi (comes with two). Sometimes you have to wait a little for musubi, but lately I've been calling in my order and they are always so prompt- 10 min tops. A couple of friends and I didn't know what to really get so we ended up choosing their Family Meal with served 4 for about $35 The family meal includes rice, macaroni salad, veggies, along with your choice of 3 meats. We chose their chicken katsu, BBQ beef, and kahlua pork. Everything tasted delicious and flavorful except for the kahlua pork. It was dry and bland, not the best. Their rice portion was also on the skimpy side compared to the meats. It was nice that our meat choices were abundant but it would've been nicer to have a more enjoyable meat to rice ratio. read more
