I went to have my passenger side windshield wiper moter checked. When I called, the mechanic wasn't sure if his shop could do the repairs. He told me to bring it in and he would check it. The next day he looked at it, tightened a bolt and sent me on my way. No charge! I know the dealership would have charged a minimum $50 just for looking. I have to say that these guys are for real! They made time for me after I just showed up. They put my car on the lift and disassembled the under carriage and diagnosed the problem even though he knew I didn't have the money to fix it right now. He lifted a huge load off my shoulders telling me what it was and that it is not going to cost too much. Moved to Brea recently, I was in search for a trustworthy mechanic. I asked on Brea Buzz page on FB, and Charlies got several recomendations. I showed up to Charlies on Friday with no appointment but Charlie was still able to see me, advise me and give me an estimate. He ran a quick diagnostic procedure and found the problem on the spot as he let me look on. Honest, sincere, and responsive. Saw the great reviews on Yelp and decided to get an estimate on fixing the air conditioner of my 2004 Honda CRV. Michael responded to my email quickly on a Sunday when the shop was closed and gave me a very reasonable estimate to replace the compressor and the condenser. Since it is an old car, I wasn't sure if it was worth spending the money in case there were some other major things that needed fixing. They gave my car an overall checkup without charge! It turned out that my car is in good shape and could possibly go beyond 200k miles. I had the AC fixed and had a few service items taken care of based on Michael's recommendations. I bought a set of front akebono brakes online and had Charlie's auto install the new brake pads and resurface my rotor. 4 months later I kept hearing a clicking sound. I take my car back and upon inspection the brake pads are manufactured defected. One of the brake pads would fit loosely in place. I ask why they couldn't find this problem before the first installation but they said it's on the manufacturer and we wouldn't know after it is installed. I can't get a refund because it's past the warranty period. Spent over 300 on labor for two front brake jobs because the first one was not proper. I won't blame them too much on this because the second time they gave me a discounted labor rate( 90 bucks down to 70 a hour). What really made me upset was my windshield wipers. When I brought my car in for the second brake issue, I told Mike my windshield wipers would get stuck. He test drive my car for about 5-10 min. He states he tried all different speeds and the windshield wipers did not get stuck. He stated if he didn't see it or experience it, it's not a big issue. Literally after I get my car back I spray my windshield with fluid and turn on the wiper, it gets stuck. The reason why I am upset is because I don't have a lot of time to drop my car off have somebody pick me up so I can go to work. I can't pick up my car during lunch time or even after work because I work in Irvine. I only have time in the morning and when I have the only time to do this, I get shooed away. This creates a waste of my time and inconvenience because he does not wanna listen to me, wth? I want to fix the windshield wipers because when it pours and the wipers get stuck and I can't see while driving. So now I need to go to another mechanic one that actually will listen to my concern and even waste more of my time. I know I should've never even gone here from my first brake install, but because I live in nearby and the yelp reviews I thought I was in good hands, but apparently not. read more

Brought my car here because of the great yelp reviews. My A/C just went out (during summer, of course) and they worked on it. They diagnosed that it was probably an electrical issue which they could not fix. Michael recommended a local car electrical shop that could help me out. When I asked how much I owed he said "no charge" since they could not fix it. You don't that kind of customer service as much any more. I will definitely bring my cars here in the future. So I'm a college student and I don't have any family nearby to help me out with any car issues I might have. I really lucked out when my coworkers suggested I take my car to Charlie's for any issues. I've gone back to him and Mike time and time again and they have been so honest and fair every time, and they don't take advantage of the fact that I'm a woman who doesn't know anything about cars. They've given me multiple diagnoses and even put air in my tires without charging me anything. My job is just a few businesses away from his shop, so if the diagnosis is bad, he will even walk over to my work and tell me about it in person. When I needed a big problem with my AC fixed, he even took the time to show me diagrams and educate me about the problem. I got my vw passat's front brakes done here recently but it started making a weird noise at low speeds like when backing up in the driveway. I'm so happy I found this place. My tire shredded my ABS wire because it was wired poorly when the truck was lifted. I called around multiple places to try and find someone who would just simply replace and rewire it. One place said they needed to charge a $90 diagnostics fee even though I knew exactly what the problem was and another place said they wouldn't even give me a quote because my truck was "modified". I finally got on the phone with Mike and he listened to what my issue was and said that it was an easy fix and they just needed to order the part. I brought the truck in for him to look at it to verify the issue and he basically stuck his head in my wheel well in the parking lot and was like "yup that's torn". They ordered the part for me and I brought the truck back and it was ready to go in 45 minutes! He even told me that the wiring was double checked and adjusted because after the first attempt there was some strain but he made sure it was perfect the second time. After the truck was done he also addressed my oil leak that I had been aware about, but quite frankly I had been ignoring it because the last mechanic I went to was asking way too much to get it fixed. Turns out I was given false information and instead of multiple parts (like I had been told by the other place I went to) Mike said it was just the rear main seal. I brought the truck back here a few months later to get that repaired and it was taken care of in one day. I even received a mid day call from Mike that my oil pressure switch needed to be changed as well and he recommended that I do it while they were already working to save myself the money instead of going back again. It was an extremely laborious job and Charlie said my truck was pretty much an all day task. I was so thankful that they were able to take on this repair for me. Overall, I appreciate the honesty and great service I received here and will be back. read more

Super friendly staff Mike and Charlie, my 2009 Honda Fit broke down in the middle of the road and tow to their shop in hope for repair. However, they did the check and said possible camshaft damage and the cost of repair or engine replacement is too high for my car. They are not charging the diagnosis and letting park my car in the back of their shop for 2 days. Mike is also helping me to ask around to see anyone would like to purchase the car as is! I feel that I should have written this review a while ago as I've been going to Charlie's at least three years now. I was referred to Charlie's by my coworker. Charlie saved the day several times by fixing the wheel bearings that another auto place had messed up, he inspected a used car before I bought it, and has completed several preventative maintenance items on my BMW. I am very wary and skeptical of service providers at first, but I can say without a doubt that I fully trust this place.
