Good experience here for the most part. I walked up to the order spot and there was no line. There was a kiosk there to order but the guy was also right there so I asked if I could just order from him directly and he was responsive. I asked him what he recommended and good 'ol Philly cheesesteak was the recommendation and it didn't disappoint. I will say the fries left much to be desired but all in all I would return. While I was moving to the right as the ergonomics of the setup seemed to push me towards, there were a couple of security guards kind of blocking the way for some inexplicable reason. The restaurant is located in a visible part of the food court inside Stonebriar Mall. There was not a wait in line and the drinks and food were quickly prepared. We ordered the chicken Philly cheesesteak, Philly Cheese steak, fries, and and real fruit lemonades- Strawberry. The cheese steaks were so good...my daughter loved the string pull on her cheesesteak. The small cheesesteak was very filling. We added Charley's french fry seasoning on our fries for added flavor and they were tasty. I loved the real fruit lemonades-Strawberry. It was just the right amount of sweet. A friend of mine had told me about them prior to me going and I wasn't disappointed. I got the regular sized Chicken California, with regular fries, and a peach lemonade (something that the cashier recommended). That total was $12 and some change. Had I ordered the bigger sandwich and loaded fries, the price would've probably been over $15. The cashier was very friendly to all patrons. He looked like he was happy to be at work. He even got a smile out of me, who was hangry (hungry+angry). They cooked the order rather quickly and I sat down to eat. The sandwich WAS NOT good. Usually, I eat at the Charley's that is in Little Rock, Arkansas. That one is where I first ordered the chicken California. This sandwich was very bland and a little on the dry side (despite the fact that the woman behind the counter asked did I want any ranch). Of course, I ate everything because I was hungry. However, I would not eat there again. The food was hot- yet it definitely wasn't worth the money spent. The lemonade was good, like the cashier said. But it had bits of peaches in it. This is a surprisingly good place for a mall food court, and it's a standout in the otherwise questionable food court of Stonebriar Mall (they really need some upgrades). I was in full "who cares about the diet" mode (apparently) when I ordered here, because I ended up with the cheddar, bacon and ranch fries and a Philly steak deluxe sandwich. The fries were still a little soft but definitely cooked, and the toppings were pretty generous, so the presentation was a bit messy but the taste was quite good, again, in a "I need more Lipitor" kind of way. The sandwich had a good meat to bread ratio, and the onions and peppers were plentiful, although I've had veggies with more flavor. Still, envelope it all in that provalone, and it was a pretty good sandwich overall. (after a $13 order I figured this would be happily given); the teenage assistant went to ask the proprietor what to do; came back and said their water wasn't working. Really? Great Philly cheese steaks! I've had the real thing in Philadelphia many times. Charley's delivers on the fast-food version. Soft but crusty bread served hot and fresh. Steak grilled right in front of you with peppers, onions, and mushrooms as you like. Provolone melted on top. I added jalapeños and Italian dressing to mine. Man, super tasty. Skip the cheese fries since it's merely the "cheese sauce" variety. But the regular fries are adequate. I looked all over the Internet for a good Philly Cheese Steak place near Frisco and finally found Charlies, which I had not known of before. It was absolutely delicious. I only wish it wasn't in the Stonebriar Mall food court. I was expecting to find an outlet on the perimeter of the mall area. I hope they will expand into a real sandwich shop in this area someday, because the food is really good - but it's pretty inconvenient to walk miles from the parking lot into the mall and going up and down escalators and back out again for carryout. read more
