This is our first time here. The three of us were recommended by a co-worker to try this place. The owner, Fred, was there and cooking for the day. He was a really cool person and very helpful in recommending what we should try. We appreciated his hospitality and time chatting with us. We ordered the Philly Bomb Cheesesteak, the Pepper Cheesesteak with Banana Peppers, Cajun and Garlic Parm Fries, Eggroll Cheesesteaks, a Single Fat Fred and their Funnel Cake Fries. The Cheesesteaks were delicious - full of flavor and the bread was nice and soft. A nice portion of meat and ingredients as well. We added some of Fred's Original Sauce and the overall great taste hit even harder! The fries were cooked to perfection and the Cajun and Garlic Parm flavors were balanced well in each fry. The Single Fat Fred was cheesy and spot on with flavor. The Funnel Cake Fries were amazing - never had anything like this before. It was perfectly drizzled with sweet syrup and powdered sugar. You definitely need to order these! Again, perfectly cooked - soft and moist on the inside with the right amount of fry on the outside. We also want to mention the young lady named Kay. She had a fun personality and gave us great customer service. If you are looking for a quality and excellent flavored Philly Cheesesteak, you've got to stop by here. We were at their Allen location. Friday night, no wait to order. Had the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls with fries and a double meat Philly cheesesteak with fries. The egg rolls were yummtastic! Highly recommend dipping in ranch as there's a peppery kick to the filling. Pic only shows half the double meat sandwich. Other half was already half gone! Hear me out on the fries: frozen & pre cut? Absolutely fantastic. As a transplant from New Jersey, I am picky about my cheesesteaks. I just discovered Fred's and it is hands down the best I have had outside the greater Philly area. I'm generally a purist but I gave the Rocky (meat, Cheese Wiz, onions, sausage, and bacon) a try and it was incredible. So good! This location was just sold and new owners are trying to run it - It's not the same at all. We offered the new owners some pointers thru their website messaging and they couldn't even take the time to reply to us. If you don't care about customers they you probably don't care about your food either. Quality is poor, orders can't get made correctly, buns are soggy and smashed, meat was terrible - no flavor at all. The cheese was melted into a watery goo at the bottom of the bun. Oh my gosh, I got the regular Philly and it was SO GOOD! I also got the "Cajun fries" which would be more appropriately named New England fries because they were covered in Old Bay. Unfortunately one of my favorite Philly restaurants has gone down the gutter since they reopened with new ownership and employees, the phillys are the size of a hotdog now, they put a quarter of the meat that they used to put in the sandwich, the bread is soggy and not the same as it used to be, they also changed the French fries which are also not good. Tried Fred's Downtown Philly a couple weeks ago. Cheesesteaks were pretty darn good and I'm told it's as close to authentic east coast as it gets. They have a bunch of pre-configured selections which was nice. Gotta be honest though, I could have used more cheese (altho i did not get any wiz on it) so maybe that was it..IDK. I was pretty hungry so the 10" didn't fill me up so got another and finished that too. But after was uncomfortably full. Would be good to have an in between option like a 15" or something, but I understand that the bread vendor may not make rolls in that size. So next time, I'll order 2 but eat 1.5 and take the rest for later. Fries were seasoned well, but I prefer thicker cut fries vs. real skinny ones. Ive lived in the area for a year and driving by this place dozens of times. I really like cheese steaks, but was very skeptical of this place due to its location. While the cheesesteaks are pretty good, the reason I'm knocking it down to two stars is the guy working the counter the last three times we've been in. The guy is flat out rude and dismissive every time we try to give them money. And I'm not saying this from some perspective of a southern customer that is not used to northeastern curtness, and I get that everybody has bad days, but that is not what is going on here. Pretty remarkable sandwich that can satisfy without weighing you down. I guess that's the "downtown" style and do testify it can also be enjoyed during the Texas summer. The counter help was friendly and helpful with the menu with any questions you may have. Now if you go late afternoon the AC has a hard time keeping up in this HOT Texas weather but don't let that stop you from enjoying one of the most delicious Philly's you have tasted. The past two times I've been here (once pre-covid in 2019 and again today) the quantity has dramatically decreased. Thr food is still hot and fresh, but they really skimp on the meat and other ingredients. The Philly is more bread than anything. Super disappointing. Went in last week and credit card machine was down after waiting 20 minutes in line to order no cash available so didn't have another way to pay they took my order and everything and told me they couldn't get the credit card machine to work and that I was just SOL. Went back a few days later and Asked for some Fred sauce specifically four the guy laughed at me and said they can't give that many for two large sandwiches and most they could do was three seriously? While the containers were a decent size I don't understand why they couldn't give me one extra sauce container that stuff it's basically zero cost.
