Thankfully, they close on Sunday, allowing us to find this wonderful little gem Girasol Café and Bakery. We had sandwiches on this stop, I had the ham and cheese on a Japanese roll, called the aloha, and my wife had the turkey avocado with homemade chips. Both sandwiches were prepared to perfection. I highly recommend. We also procured several pastries, including an apricot empanada that is baked not fried. Slightly warm, with a cup of coffee it was over-the-top delicious. We took away a lemon square and a granola caramel bar (I forget what the name was) but it didn't make it home, again, unexpectedly delicious. The cinnamon roll was calling feverishly for me, but unfortunately, I didn't try at this time. But the next trip to Amarillo is sooner rather than later so we can make another trip to Girasol Café and Bakery. I can't end this review without mentioning how friendly and accommodating the staff are. We we interacted with at least three, and I can say I truly felt I was appreciated as a customer at this place. Each one of them demonstrated a genuine interest in us and the enjoyment of their preparations of our food. The place is small, but on nice days they can double in size with their outside patio

While we were able to eat quickly, the food was meh and the outdoor eating area smelled like sh*t so we relocated inside. I ordered biscuits and gravy with jalapeño bacon. I LOVED the jalapeño bacon. But neither the biscuits nor the gravy tasted good. The biscuits were more like crackers--hard rather than fluffy. And biscuits (plural) is a bit misleading because it's one biscuit sliced in half and soaked in gravy. Chick-Fil-A makes tastier biscuits. But we visited this place on a Sunday and, unfortunately, Chick-Fil-A was closed. It comes with eggs, but I didn't eat the eggs because they looked like the powdered variety instead of real, whole eggs. My husband wanted a croissant but was told it would take 30 minutes to bake. Maybe we're impatient, but that seemed unreasonable for a "bakery" that had been open for a few hours at that point. So he settled for the smothered burrito. He didn't like that concotion either. The passionfruit teas we ordered were small but good, but not good enough for a return visit. $35 wasted.

While it is counter service, the staff was attentive even when seated, they were helpful and friendly while ordering, and they even seemed to be having a good time doing their jobs well. Its decor is eclectic and the building is nothing to write home about...but... the restaurant is excellent.

I had the imposter with breaded mushrooms. Super crispy Cremini mushrooms with great crunch but the rest was kinda meh, romaine and drizzle of sauce and balsamic. At least with the pickled onions there was a little palate tease. Also tried the Al pastor with jackfruit. Opted for this version on a salad and it's a whopping serving size. Hearty serving of jackfruit with plenty of sauce and dressing. Had nice little nibs of some crunch too. Service was super, super nice. I'd call the inside dive-ish. Totally relaxed and chill ambiance. I'll be back to try more items! My one dislike was that I don't care for the balsamic drizzle on either dish... just doesn't pair well with these flavors. Side of pineapple was yummy to balance the heaviness of both dishes.

Open for breakfast and lunch, Bagel Place at first glance just felt like your regular deli, but they are loaded up with tons of bagels. From your traditional bagels like Everything, Blueberry, and Cinnamon Raisin to unique ones like French Toast, Snickerdoodle, and Sun-Dried Tomato, they all looked exceptional. Inside, the atmosphere is your classic deli. You would think they're slinging Reuben bagels the way it looks inside. Their menu had plenty of sandwich options, but I was eying their current lunch special, which was made up of oven-roasted chicken, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, roasted red peppers, and ranch dressing. I got it on their everything bagel. For just over $13, it came with chips and a drink as well. It was only a short wait until our food was brought to our table. The sandwich was truly delectable. They do such a great job balancing all the different items in their sandwich, making nothing feel overdone or letting the ranch overpower the rest of it and turn the whole thing too saucy. Their bagels are really the star of the show here because they have so much flavor and are cooked perfectly. The everything bagel was seasoned exactly how you would hope, which made it an especially enjoyable sandwich. As for the staff, they were pretty on top of it and made the whole experience as seamless as possible. Bagel Place is the place. A perfect lunch. RIYL: Bagels and Places

There were a number of tables with people camped out on their computers or sitting and socializing with friends. Also a steady stream of people in and out picking up To-Go orders the whole time. With all the bustle it was a little loud at times, but we didn't have to shout to carry on conversation. Lots of locals obviously enjoying themselves. They have a wide variety of bagels and schmears as you would expect. The bagels were large and tasty. Maybe a little pricey but not expensive. The coffee was lots of fun. They have about a dozen different vacuum pots sitting at the counter filled with different coffee flavors. They give you the empty cup and then you can help yourself. Sadly, by the time we were there most of the pots were empty. Of the dozen there were only 3-4 that still had coffee in them. I tried what I could and they were all pretty good. I love the concept but the execution was lacking. Next time maybe I'll get to try some more.
