After a PG&E power outage I couldn't reset one of my circuit breakers I called long time Half Moon Bay electrical contractor Charles Electric. They sent out one of there electricians ( Luis ) who was here in under one hour to look at my service box and checked the breakers and showed me how to correctly reset the double breaker. I found Luis to be very professional and friendly after showing me how to reset I ask how much I own for the service call he said nothing and that if he charged for what he did Mr. Charles wouldn't like it. I found Charles Electric to be a very professional company that I will call and recommend to friends for future electrical needs. David Moore read more

Yesterday we had the pleasure of having Charles Electric, Dan and his crew, install all in one day, our new GENERAC WHOLE HOME generator. We called last week to inquire about the process and one week later it is done. Working with Dan and his efficient, expert crew was a dream. They came when they promised, worked expertly and efficiently all the while updating us on their progress. We were prompted to have this done by the predictions of a very strong El Niño this winter. To anyone dreading the same power outages surely to come, we highly recommend DAN and CHARLES ELECTRIC! You will not be disappointed. By far, the finest business we have ever dealt with and that is saying something. Let the storms come! We are ready now!! read more

This review is long overdue! Dan Charles and his entire team have saved me countless times. They are very responsive, professional, eager to help and most importantly the kindest souls you will ever find. They helped install a switch to safely utilize our backup generator to power the whole house when the power inevitably goes out (which it does a few times each year), has installed our Starlink, and most recently answered calls on Christmas to help us trouble shoot the generator when storms took out power and helped fix it before the next batch of storms start tomorrow. He has provided us with a range of options and price points from generator to battery and what solar would do in order to enable us to make informed decisions. read more

Dan, Romero and team are great. While out of town over the holiday the power outage burned out some contactors and a well pump. After I replaced all, the system still would not pump water. Dan and team came out on New Years eve to trouble shoot the electrical system. He determined that the circuit board was also burned out. He researched what board I needed on new year's and let me know what to order. Part came in, I installed it and water is back in operation. He was happy to come out and do the small job and was free with his knowledge to improve my troubleshooting and repairs. I would not hesitate to call them for any electrical issues in the future. Personable, prompt, and honest. What more can you ask for? read more

Absolutely amazing customer service and quality! I highly recommend Dan and his crew! We had an appointment with Dan Charles on 1/16/2026 at 9:00 AM. He said he would call 15 Min. before his scheduled arrival. We called him because he installed a new whole house generator for our next door neighbor and the crew and owner did a fanastic job next door; installation was about a week ago. He never called, as he said he would do, never showed up, as he said he would. Later in the day, after we called him, he said he could come by later in the afternoon. We declined his offer. He can do a great job when he wants to. Personally, I cannot rate him as a profeesional. The way he failed to respond to our scheduled appointment was disappointing and very unprofessional. If you need a generator or services related to a genaerator, look around for someone who actually is professional. Dan Charles doesn't qualify as one. read more

Dan and his team at Charles Electric are doing a great job with regular servicing of my generator. They also suggested some prudent safety improvements which made me wonder about the prior electrician . . . Thanks Dan!! read more

If I could give a zero star review I would as this business overcharges and underserves, if you are from the HMB community you know that if you receive work done from Dan not only will you pay double the cost as he pockets a lot of the money but you will have to call another electrician to fix what should've been done correctly the first time. Poor quality, poor service, and he consistently shows up to jobs under the influence of illegal substances. If you come across his business run in the other direction! read more

Dan and his crew are awesome coastside Generac specialists. Before I found Charles electric, the nearest Generac installer/servicer who was willing to come to the coast was based out of the North Bay (urgent needs could never be met). It's been a dream to work with a local crew. Most recently, I reached out to Dan last minute to service our generator. With the storm coming, he made it happen ASAP. Sure enough, our power went out, the generator kicked on and it ran for 2 days straight. On Dec. 25 Dan happened to be on our street (helping CCWD with their generator) and he offered to change our oil since our generator had been running nonstop. We weren't the only customers that were helped on Christmas. Dan really goes out of his way to help--rain or shine and even on a holiday! read more

Called to request a service appointment to take out some electrical wires left over from a previous HVAC. I think I spoke to Dan during his lunch break since he was continuing to chew something during our conversation. He promised to call me back in a couple of days to schedule something since he was really busy. I received a text message about a week later from Dan asking if I was also interested in getting a generator installed. I told him "No, thanks", and that was the last I've heard from him. Don't bother Dan with any small service calls. read more

We recently had the great, good fortune to contract with Charles Electric for the installation our whole-house, Generac 22K watt generator. From start to finish, we could not have been more pleased with the process. Dan Charles is an incredibly nice, personable and hard-working individual, and his team of installers reflect these qualities. Dan checked in with us the evening prior to the installation regarding their ETA the next day. He texted us that next morning to confirm the ETA (no change) and then again when they were five minutes away. Once on-site, Dan introduced us to all of this team members, then they set off to work. And work they did, like a well-oiled machine! Honestly, we were a bit leery of Dan's estimate of a one-day installation, but he and his team proved us wrong, and with time to spare. They also had time to remedy a non-generator, storm-damage electrical issue at no additional charge! In addition to the first-class installation process, Dan's price-point could not be beat. As consumers, there is nothing better than purchasing a top quality product at a very favorable price, followed by a top-notch installation process. We highly recommend Dan Charles Electric without hesitation. read more

You won't find better customer service. Dan stands by his work and went the extra mile at every step of the process. We were deciding between a battery and a generator and ultimately it came down to knowing we'd have Dan to help us out for the life of the generator. read more

We have used Dan for years and he always offers reliable fast service. He also has done a really great job educating me on the generator itself. I know based on what I've learned I could do some of the regular maintenance myself, but prefer to leave this to the experts. I find he is very honest and transparent in his evaluation and pricing. I don't plan on using anyone else for my generator needs. Highly recommend. read more

You know those nice catalog photos of a generator sitting on a clean level lawn, with manicured hedges next to the house? The picture of a straightforward installation and simple electrical hookup? Well, that catalog photo definitely doesn't match our house, barn, and propane tank in three different locations on a steep slope! But Dan Charles and his team figured out how to make it all work. If you are looking for perseverance and problem-solving in a complex situation, they are most likely your very best option for a Generac installation on the mountain. In the end, we had two different meters and buildings -- with a very long wire pull around the perimeter of the property, up a steep slope, and under a paver walkway -- connected to our propane tank. Previous owners of our house researched a generator option and couldn't find a way to connect the entire property ... but Dan did! In addition to being full of great ideas, he has a big heart and truly cares about people. He recognized our particular generator needs and made sure they were taken care of. Dan made multiple trips up the mountain even before the start of the work to be sure that we had the right plan. For the original estimate, he spent over an hour walking the entire property with me, brainstorming options. He pointed out the best spot for the generator that I hadn't originally considered: lowest noise, least tree damage danger, and easiest connection point. The final quality of the install is excellent: no shortcuts and rock solid professional electrical. Very responsive to texts and follow-up afterwards as well. We look forward to working with Dan for a long time in the future and greatly appreciate the work that he and his (top notch) crew did for us. read more

FYI, Dan replied to my review and made some false claims. He claimed I had no permit and an unlicensed installer... He claimed that I stated that the unit broke down AFTER I called him out to service the unit. None of this is remotely accurate or true. I responded by posting a copy of my permit to prove Dan wrong and quoted my own review describing how the unit broke during a storm. Why Dan would make such easily disproved claims is something I cannot explain. Yelp quickly removed Dan's post because it was clearly dishonest and violated their policies... My Generator has now been fixed by a reputable service tech. Thankfully Charles Electric is in my rearview mirror and as such I will now be removing my full response and copy of my permit. read more

I hired Dan to set up a portable generator with a transfer switch. He was very personable at our initial meeting. We agreed that the generator inlet would be installed on the exterior of my home. This is important so that when the generator is running, the exhaust doesn't enter through open windows or doors, a health and safety code violation. When he completed the job, the inlet had been installed INSIDE the garage! This would require me to plug it in through an open garage door. I reminded him of the terms of our installation agreement. He promised to come back and make the correction. Unfortunately, he had several personal excuses and on numerous occasions, kept me waiting at home and never showed up. He said he would be back "when he came up for air" but that never happened. This week, with all the power outages due to the heat wave, I was unable to start the generator. I decided to see if Dan might redeem himself, but how gullible can I be? He agreed to stop by after he completed another job. I sat around all afternoon waiting for him and again, he was a no-show. After reviewing the owner's manual, I realized he did not provide me with all the parts to the generator, and the battery was not connected correctly. I immediately called DuroMax to report this as he should not be listed as a DuroMax installer. read more

We recently purchased a Generac 24 KW generator from Charles Electric, and they installed it yesterday. We found Dan Charles to be very personable, knowledgeable, and customer-oriented. He had to wait a few days before he could pick up the new generator, and kept us informed of the status every day. While they were doing the installation, Dan kept us in the loop and solicited our input for key installation questions to make sure we were happy with the result. Dan's team of installers communicated and worked well together, were very efficient and professional, did first-rate work, went the extra mile, did the installation in less than one day, and even finished a bit earlier than I expected. With all of this, Dan's price was very competitive. We couldn't have been more pleased, would definitely hire him again, and recommend him highly. read more

I called on the day of the day of the "River Storm" in March 2023 for emergency services. My elderly clients Generac was not starting and the power went out from all of the fallen trees.
