I still laugh at ordering through the microphone after COVID because it feels like I'm stepping up to request a karaoke song. Unfortunately, it hasn't felt like the same place lately. They stopped letting us order the whole chicken the way we preferred, started nickel-and-diming on sauces, and somehow the flan always seems to be out. More importantly, across probably five recent orders, the chicken has consistently tasted under-seasoned despite that great rub and flavor that made this place famous. Portions feel smaller while prices have climbed. The dining room doesn't help. It feels dated and neglected rather than like somewhere you want to stay and eat. It's still a convenient option if you're in a pinch and need a family meal, but I no longer bring visitors here like I used to. For me, the value, consistency, and experience that once made El Pollo Rico special just aren't there anymore.

Definitely not anymore! For as many times as we've frequented Pisco in Reston with a small group, one would think they'd get their seating straightened out. Every time we've attempted to eat here on a reservation, they've had issues. Never set up and ready to seat us. Never prepared upon opening... and it's never busy when they first open which is why we always go early. But, they are NEVER ready to seat us. What's the use of making a reservation a week in advance if you're not going to be ready to seat the party nor accommodate the request? How would you like to find out at the last minute that they're going to split up your party at two different tables on two different sides of the restaurant because they weren't prepared when you gave them a week's notice via reservation? The food isn't that good to have to keep going through the challenge of being seated every time we make a reservation for a group. They're really pricey, too. So, certainly not worth this chronic headache. There are PLENTY of other places in the Town Center or in Herndon/Reston in general where you can get a tasty meal, not drop a day's pay, and have your entire party served well together. The taco joint across the street is definitely a more pleasant experience, for example, and I would certainly recommend bartaco...give them a try instead for a fun environment and some good eats.

I'm glad we did because it made our venue decision so much easier and we decided not to go with Inca Social as a result. The food was not bad - some of it was pretty good but some were ok. I enjoyed the seafood rice. Not the best I've had but still was quite good. Empanadas were ok. We just went to a yelp event at Mpanadas and enjoyed their empanadas more. Chicharrons were tasty but not what I expected. Maybe if they just called it roast pork belly or something. I've had chicharrons that are pork rinds that are super crunchy and crunchy pork belly in Peru and other places but this felt different somehow. We got a couple of other things as well that were ok. The experience itself was very strange. We had really liked the vibe from outside when we've passed it on walks including their fun instagrammable sign that says "it's a vibe" but I did not have a good experience upon walking in. We stood for a while waiting near the host podium. Other diners were looking at us as we tried to see if we could wave someone down. Eventually we ask the bartender if we can just sit down. She said usually the hostess needs to seat us. We said sure but we've been waiting but it doesn't seem like someone is coming so she said ok then go ahead and sit. I pick a booth because it's a cozier vibe. In less than a minute, the hostess pops up saying she had been in the bathroom and asks if we have a reservation. We said no and she said we needed to move to another table that was in the middle of the room at a table with chairs. I thought this was strange given that we were coming in around 9pm but thought maybe they had a huge party coming in so didn't fuss. No one else came for those booths for the duration of our meal. I was a bit perplexed but let it be. The server started out great. She was friendly and made some recommendations upon request. Once the food came out though, we did not get serviced again. Our water never got refilled. Plates sat on our table. I had to stare into the kitchen area where she and another server were sort of folding napkins (very slowly) but mostly chatting. There was a ton of socializing going on in the kitchen area including the hostess. I don't really care about this unless I have to work to get someone's attention and I don't see a ton of customers requiring help. We skip the water request and ask for the bill while skipping dessert. The food is not bad - some good and some ok. The experience left much to be desired so between these factors...I didn't feel excited to spend thousands of dollars on an event where we may or may not have a great experience. It was a bummer given the convenience of the location and seemingly cool vibe of the place. Maybe next time!
