Mr. Chapman and his assistant are always very helpful. I took my 2-year-old Janome sewing machine in for service and found out it needed to be repaired. Mr. Chapman worked with Janome to have the repair covered under warranty. I am very appreciative of how he tries to work with people. My machine is back home and sewing good as new. read more

Dropped off Miele at Chapman for repair estimate. It had poor suction and a malfunctioning lid. Mr. Chapman called later with an estimate of $300. Estimate sounded steep so I said I was gonna pickup up and take to another shop for 2nd estimate. He said wait! He would do it for $200. Sucker that I am, I agreed. Upon return home with vacuum, pickup the lid is still broken and he claims he never agreed to fix the lid. Not true at all. BS! Do NOT use his services. read more

Eddie at Chapman sew and vac is the absolute best. It's hard to find a small business who is not only knowledgeable about his products but very honest. I brought our sewing machine into a differant sewing repair shop for a tune up, estimate. all I got was we can sell u this that or whatever. I then brought it to Eddie at sew and vac in edgewater, md and wow what a differance. We discussed some newer machines but Eddie said for what we do for ours was a very good machine. I was searching for a vacuum cleaner (durable, robust, quality - preferably American made product) and was directed to Chapman Vac and Sew from an online search. Chapman carries a variety of products and will demo what he sells. There is a huge difference in quality/function from what you can buy in a big box store to what professionals / people that actually want their carpets CLEAN use. I purchased two Simplicity vacuums and couldn't be happier. This place is a total scam! Buyer beware! Brought in my 3 year old Dysons upright vacuum because it wasn't able to stay in its upright position. Chapman's is an authorized Dysons dealer/service center. This has happened before and these guys fixed it (after convincing me that it needed a $150 overhaul, which I now question) . This time the owner took the vacuum to evaluate it and when I called the next day to find out the repair price, he said it had a busted housing and he was still trying to find the part but said that it would be at least $200 and it is a BIG job. He told me to come in and he would give me a good deal on a new Dysons. When I got there, he said that my vacuum was not worth repairing and quoted me big discount prices off of his list price, but I had to buy quickly because the sale was ending soon. He also said that my model was long since discontinued and that the new models had 3 x the sucking capability. I asked if he would take a trade in on my old machine and he said that he had no interest because he had a warehouse full of trade ins and besides mine was so badly damaged that it wasn't even worth repairing. I told him that I would prefer to buy from him because I like to support local businesses but I would first need to check online to see what Amazon was charging. He supposedly looked it up on his computer with me standing there, although I couldn't see the screen, and said his price was only $5 or so more, to which I said okay. He also said that if I bought it from Amazon that he couldn't service it for me??? I said "but you are an authorized service center, don't you have to repair it?" To which he said "well yes, but if you buy it from me I will look the other way on any non warrantee work because I can fudge the paperwork and get the company to pay" WTF?? So I left and called Dysons Customer Service and they said that the price of a new one bought directly from them one was not only $100 less than Chapman's "special price", but that they would give me 20% off on my trade in. When I mentioned to them the model number that Chapman's was offering me, they said that this was a Canadian model and that it is against their policy to allow their dealers to sell such imports. They also said that of the two newer models he had shown me (albeit Canadian), had about the same amount of sucking capability (one a bit less than mine and one only a bit more. They then gave me the name of an alternate nearby dealer. I went back to Chapman to pick up my vacuum, and told the owner that Dyson was giving me a better deal especially with the trade in ($320 vs $443 he quoted. He told me that was a penny pincher and that i didn't give him a chance to negotiate with me!!!!! THE AMAZING END TO THIS STORY is that I went to the recommended dealer and in two minutes he said that it could easily be fixed and that there would be no charge because it was still under warranty!!!!! This guy is a master con man and I fortunately did not succumb to his "come on". Meanwhile the Dysons customer service people were excellent, courteous and informative. Cross this place off your list unless you want to get scammed! read more

I took my sewing machine to be repaired, and they told me it needed to have the timing adjusted, which would cost about $200. I took it to another store and found out the problem was only a bent needle, the timing was fine. read more

I have had 2 great experiences with Chapman vacuum on a vacuum that I did not purchase there. One time he fixed it over a period of a couple days and it was a warranty issue and the next time I just walked in expecting to leave it and it was a super quick free fix. Ed, the owner, will discuss the type of sewing you do and review the machines that would meet your needs.. I really liked that I could sit and take my time trying out machines! Ed will discuss the reviews of various machines and then match Amazon's price for that sewing machine! Ed will also review all the features of the machine you like (which was invaluable since my old machine came over on the Mayflower) and make sure you know how to thread it correctly, etc. I have been so happy with my choice - Janome 2015. I brought my dyson vacuum in to be serviced because it lost suction. Ed immediately began talking about trading in my dyson and putting it toward the purchase of another simplicity vacuum without even diagnosing mine first. After he did diagnose it, he told me it would be $100 for labor and $50 for a hose that sells on dyson for $29.99. When I asked him why he was charging me an extra $20 for the hose, he said he would only charge $30. The clip on hose has been broken for two years but it never effected the vacuum's suction ability. He said it was broken because the engine was over heating and caused it to crack?! No, it's plastic clip is broken because I jammed it in and broke it. I don't believe he has any idea what he is doing. When I went to pick up my vacuum because I decided there was no way I wanted him to service it, he had the hose jammed in crooked and when I asked for it to be placed back in there properly like I brought it in and he gave me an attitude saying it doesn't matter it's broken anyway. I stood there and tried to put it in myself and he literally grabbed the hose from me and yanked it off and handed it to me and told me I couldn't stand there and spend the time to put it back in properly in his store! Horrible, despicable customer service! Do not waste your time on this scam store. I called Dyson and because it is under warranty this repair isn't going to cost me a dime! Further, they are paying for it to be packed, shipped free to them and shipped free back to me within 7 days. The technician from Dyson said there is no way the suction is lacking due to a plastic broken clip on the hose. Utterly Ridiculous. Chapman should not be handling dyson, they have no idea how to fix them and then try overcharge for it! Save yourself time and aggravation and don't go there with your dyson, call dyson direct, you will not be disappointed! read more
