I visited Chongos while staying at a nearby resort in Rocky Point, and the restaurant was a short walk away. It was pretty empty for a weekend, but the loud music and fun vibes definitely made up for it. The service was great--our waiter brought us menus right away. I ordered the nacho appetizer with carne asada for my entrée, and it was pretty good. The quesadilla was just alright, nothing too special, and the taco platter was okay overall, except for the shrimp tacos, which were amazing! If you're going for tacos, I highly recommend skipping the variety and just getting three shrimp tacos--they were seriously bomb! All in all, a fun spot with good food, and I'd go back just for those shrimp tacos. read more

The quality of the food seems to be the same, but the service is much slower than I remember, also, it looks like there was a 40%-50% price increase across all menu items. BEWARE!!!! STEALING CELL PHONE SCAM BY EMPLOYEES AND OWNERSHIP. Both my son and his friend was at Chongos Bar and both cell phones were taken on separate nights. Life 360 shows the phone there!!! We went first thing to talk to staff and to get phone as the phone was showing at CHONGOS CURRENTLY. However they lied and would not help us. Right away cell phone was then turned off. Very sketchy and dishonest place. I would NOT recommend this place. Now i am finding out that my niece and her friends were there approx 6 months ago and one of their cell phones were also stolen at Chongos. read more

Even though people had mixed reviews I figure I give it a try since it was close.. Well.. Restaurant was empty. I'm guessing it used to be hopping place at one point.. Server was polite... But it made me laugh when he told me it was going to be a bit since he had to make the salsa and guacamole.. But guac did not taste fresh and did not have anything in it other then smashed avacado.. Salsa wasn't too bad... But I don't know about him "just making it.". Ordered aquachile.. Which was not too bad.. Better than some of the other place I had. The Carne Asada taco was OK.. Shrimp cocktail not too bad.. The shrimp dishes with sauce on it was so so. I don't even remember the names of the dishes but definitely not worth it. I would definitely not come back here again.. This place was just ok, the nachos had canned cheese (no bueno), the shrimp. ceviche was good but the tostadas they serve it with kept breaking, making it a task to enjoy. The waiters were kind and easy on the eyes but the chips and salsa I ordered came with a small hair (grossed me out) so I had to send them back. This place was close to our condo and we stopped there to eat on our way out. The best part was the fresh shrimp which is kind of normal for Mexico. read more

It had to happen eventually. My first one star review. This place is garbage. Bad food. Bad service. Bad vibe. I ate there twice because I could not believe how bad the first visit was. Second visit just as bad. First time I got chicken, shrimp, and beef tacos. I'm not confident chicken was actually chicken. Disgusting. Shrimp seemed ok but it was underseasoned. To be fair, almost everything on sandy beach lacked seasoning, which was really weird to me. Beef was fatty and grissly and gross. Service was unpleasant. Iced tea was not iced tea on my first visit. No idea what it was. Maybe an herbal tea. Second time I got proper tea. I did not like most of the restaurants on sandy beach, but Changos was hands down the worst of the worst. read more

We had a great dinner at Changos! We had a party of 27 people and it didn't faze them!! We got our drinks quickly, they assigned us a name for our party (kids sat at the end of the table away from us) and they got everything right! Our food was hot and delicious!! We went here for my cousin's wedding rehearsal dinner. They had rented out the back of the space which was by the pool area. The space that they rented, to begin with, was a large venue, enough to probably accommodate more than 150 guests. The staff was very accommodating to our needs, making sure that we had drinks flowing and appetizers coming. The food was served buffet style. They served fish, shrimp, chicken, and asada tacos. Tacos were great and accompanied by great service. They had someone at the buffet area attending to guests' needs. I personally wasn't too crazy about the fish and shrimp tacos, because they had a different breading than what I was used to. It turns out that this region of Mexico uses different breading than Baja style tacos. This place is very touristy, super close to all the resorts. I was told that they also have pool parties here during spring break (and it can get pretty intense). I'd definitely give this place another try on my next visit to have a more personal experience rather than with a party. read more

SPRING BREAK PARTY - NO FOOD So I happened to come during spring break. Since this place was right next to my resort, and the lights were flashing and the music booming every night, my fams and I thought "let's go dance." I'd never been to a club before. Gonna throw that on the table while we're here. When we get in line we're immediately surrounded by children. I'm a 37 year old grown woman with bills and children of my own, and I'm surrounded by kids who only want to get wasted and breed. They were annoying. But once the line got moving, they didn't matter anymore. Chango's had no tables when we got in. No pool - it was covered and turned into a dance floor. Two DJ tables were set up - one at the first bar to the left when we walked in, and another down below with a countdown timer until the main DJ showed up. So we got drinks and had a good time dancing with the music - a great mix of my era (90's and early 00's) and current stuff that everyone could sing and shake to. The kids got up on the bar and did a conga line bump'n'grind. A good portion of them had EVERYTHING on display. It was like watching the Discovery channel! Drinks were being sold everywhere. I counted 4 separate bars. The place filled up fast. Then the timer below (over the covered pool) counted down and the party really took off when it reached 0:00. The dubstep kicked on and the crowd was so thick and the music and lights so intense that you just had to bounce with the rest. I had no idea there was a pool below us until I came here to write this review. To think that cover held SO many bodies. Wow. Anyhoo. By the end of the party (early for us), someone had spilled their drink on me, my shoes were sticky, and my ears were ringing. And it was fantastic. Super tasty and great sea food. It is walking distance from the Senoran Sea Resort which is where we were staying. It makes going here very convenient and easy. Portions are good, and the prices are reasonable. The soups, tacos, and tostadas are super tasty. Love the shrimp and octopus here. I would not suggest the fish and chips. 5 star-ish food per Rocky Point standards. 3 star service... Literally heard the bell in the kitchen ring several times as I watched my yummy fish die a slow death under a warming light as (not exaggerating) 8 workers congregated around the kitchen door watching their cell phones. I'll be back! This is quintessential Mexico. We are on "Mexico" time here. Wish I would have snapped a pic of the gaggle of servers texting away with a corresponding pic of the fact that there were more of them than customers as my food sat under the heat lamp visible from the bar! Also - bonus - they have a pool! Toss the kids in it while you toss a few back!!! I ordered the Grilled octopus quesadilla ( loaded with octopus and Mexican cheese- tortillas were soggy because of the oil released from cheese!) tasted good. Tried the beef (carne) nachos as an appetizer. Service took forever considering there wasn't much customers in the place. We had to keep flagging down a different servers. The nachos were horrible. Semi melted cheese globs on GREASY chips. The meat was very fatty and most of it wasn't edible. Maybe the food was ready earlier when it was hot but our server was super slow? I usually don't rate based on service but I think it may have affected the quality of the food in this case. We didn't stay for a main dish. Drank our beers and searched for someplace else to eat.
