More like 3.5 stars. Great view! Plastic table seating outside. The food was good, nothing superb though. What it really comes down to is the pricing. Completely in USD most meals 20-30, which is too much for their quality. Americanized restaurant. The guac was very bland and oddly had cucumber slices and shredded carrot with no other produce. The meals were served with more thick cucumber and an orange slice garnish which was a bit strange- stick to limes! So not bad, but not really worth a visit. read more

December 30, 2024. Saturday. Dinner. We walked here from our hotel, Penasco del Sol. This walk took about 30 minutes. This restaurant is on top of a hill, overlooking the ocean. Our view at sunset was spectacular and rarified. The restaurant stood empty of patrons except for my wife and I and another couple inside. The waiter told us this was because of the border closing at Lukeville, Arizona. He said the restaurant typically overflowed with tourists around New Years. Even our hotel and its parking lot were relatively empty. I ordered the Brocheta de Camaron, for $18. The Brocheta came with steamed vegetables (snappy, not fully cooked), rice, baked potato with butter, and 200 grams of shrimp on a skewer with soggy bacon, onion, green and red peppers. This did come with a small salad on the side. I ordered a Michelada with Indio beer, for an unknown amount since this wasn't on either side of the laminated menu. Watch out when ordering cocktails. Maybe ask them the price? We ordered guacamole with our chips, which was $8, ouch! This place is pricey, and the food is bland and unseasoned, so you are definitely paying for the view. Even the guacamole tasted unseasoned, like plain, mashed avocados. The Michelada was good and so was the Cadillac margarita that followed it. They gave us a coupon for 1/2 price entree on a subsequent visit, from 10 to 4 pm. We visited this restaurant again, using the aforementioned coupon, on January 1, New Years Day, for lunch. Note: this coupon can only be used for entrees on the front page of the menu. On this visit, two other parties besides us sat inside the restaurant, like we did, since it was a bit chilly outside. This time I ordered the Camarones Thermidor, for $18. This included 200 grams of shrimp, cooked with mushrooms, white wine and melted cheese. This came with rice and the same steamed vegetables, which were undercooked. This second time around was better because of the coupon. If you can visit here with a coupon, then it would be well worth it. You can currently find this coupon in the Rocky Point Times newspaper, towards the back, around page 69. The view is amazing, the food is average/bland, and the price would be less. You'd have to come for lunch or a very early dinner (4 PM). read more

Oh the view you'll get! Surprise there's a fantastic restaurant on top of the hill overlooking Peñasco with absolutely stunning views of the town and the ocean. Pelicans fly overhead and the soft sea breeze keeps you cool if you sit outside. The man running it is the grandchild of the original owners who still live next door. I love the family atmosphere and the care that you can feel when you walk in. The food is good, I would say caters to Americans. Everything I had was wonderful and the prices are super reasonable. read more

Epic view. Food is substandard, overcooked and under seasoned - and expensive. I ordered the 'especial de capitan' - a dish with fish, shrimp and flank steak priced at $30. The presentation was basic and everything was ridiculously overcooked it was incredibly unappetizing to look at and disappointing to eat. The fish was so dry I could swear it was a baked potato. The vegetable side was steamed broccoli and carrots - lackluster. I took a few bites and was done. Other dishes ordered at our table - enchiladas, shrimp with bacon and chili relleno - were similarly disappointing, with the exception of the beef taco that got a good review. Awesome views; the food was good, although asked for fish tacos without breading (heavy oily breading, yuck). I was disappointed that even though they offered a 50% discount on items, every coupon was removed (not torn, but perfectly cut out) from the Rocky Point Times magazine located near the entrance door. I'd charitably call them out for being disingenuous. A previous review mentioned losing a cellphone. Doubtful I'd return despite the "killer view," hence 3 Stars. read more

This Brew, Drink and Eats place is not ordinary! To begin with, it with its lively décor and cosmetically colorful paint job is spacious with lots of outside veranda seating which lets you enjoy one of the most majestic views of the Puerto Peñasco beaches from its rocky promontory in the area, it makes for a terrific view during the day for breakfast or lunch, a sunset dinner and/or drink, or late evening munchies either with your meal and drinks. Expect some of the usual fares, including some great, some not so good Mariachis of course. Considering it's a tourist location as is the whole area, they do an excellent job and take full advantage of being seaside in getting, preparing and offering some excellent Seafood and Fish. One of my fave dishes of all time is made here, their equivalent to Bouillabaisse, Sopa de Mares - its fantabulous. My wife thoroughly enjoyed, el Pescado Frito, which they prepared with fresh Dorado, Hmmmm! I highly recommend La Casa del Capitan for all the aforementioned reasons. Next time back at Puerto Peñasco, we'll be back. Buen Provecho! read more

This is the primary reason for dining here. Everyone has a 50% off coupon, which makes the menu more affordable. Otherwise, the prices would be excessive when compared to other restaurants. We received food service - friendly and efficient. The food was just OK. I had a beef steak taco and chili relleno with rice and beans. Tortilla chips are Ok, salsa is mild (we prefer some heat). Came here in Oct. 2019. Could not visit Puerto Panasco in 2020 due to Covid 19. First attraction to this eatery, was that it overlooked the Melecon below. What a view from the hillside. Our first impression from 2019 was memorable, good food & service. On this visit, we were greeted by a sweet lady who escorted us to our table. She suggested inside, as outside was crowded & flys might be hungry. We'll assumed she was The Boss, by the elegant way she carried herself across the room. Our waitress Eva was professional & friendly. Oh! The Boss , sold us on the fresh guacamole to add with our chips & Salsa. Good up sell, but worth it! We ordered a Taco & Chile Rellino plate & a Taco & Enchilada plate, both with rice & beans. Our busboy, carried the meals, to the table, but waited for Eva to place! Very nice touch of service. Delish is the proper way to describe those meals! Service here is what you expect, excellent food and the Strawberry Margarita refreshing! They offer a 50 percent off food coupon on your next visit, so better yet, why would you not return! read more

The view is fabulous! We had dinner just as the sun was setting... beautiful view. As for the food -- "meh". Nothing spectacular. The decor is a tad tacky. The food is very pricey for what you get... Last weekend we hosted the most amazing wedding rehearsal dinner for our son and future daughter in law at Casa del Capitan. We had a fantastic evening. All of our guests were so pleased with the service, food and drinks. The fish ceviche for one of our appetizers was delicious. The entrees were all great, I loved my chile relleno and fish taco! The margaritas were yummy, people were feeling good! The sunset was spectacular ! Jose and his staff were amazing. Jose called me a week ahead to confirm all the details and put my mind at ease about this large party of 80+. Jose was very accommodating and organized. Absolutely the best view in Pocky Point if you sit out on the patio in my opinion! Especially at sunset. The only reason it lacks the fifth star is the quality of the food. It's just okay and a little on the expensive side for RP. The service was great and so were the drinks. It was nice, not too loud or over crowded. Capitan is a must-do when we 'winter' in Peñasco. We use the half-price coupon the the Rocky Point Times and go before 4 PM and have never been disappointed. Last week we had the Chicken Fajitas which were great - and more than my partner could eat. I had the Shrimp Tacos, wish I'd gotten them grilled instead of fried. But overall, we like their Enchiladas, Rellenos, etc and find it to be a great value, superb view, and LOVE the Margaritas. Watch out! read more

We enjoyed dinner on the patio. This restaurant is special due to its unique location on the point. The views are amazing. The service was very good, fast and efficient. We had the guacamole as an appetizer and a plate of beef fajita and bacon wrapped shrimp. Everything was very good. Plates come with a nice assortment of cooked vegetables. Beautiful views can be found on their huge patio and the restaurant sits on top of a hill. I had lunch and watched the boats sail by. The service was fast and friendly (English speaking server). The food here is very mediocre for the price. The view and service were fantastic though. This restaurant sits on top of a hill and looks over Rocky Pointe city (it's a nice place to watch the sunset). For the price, the food wasn't that great. A lot of the food didn't have the right seasoning or love put into their food. We ordered coconut shrimp and the special which consisted of fish, shrimp, and beef. Again, the food is okay. read more
