I do not usually write reviews - good or bad. I have purposely waited a bit of time before I wrote this one to make sure my review was not just an emotional reaction to the treatment I received.
Now, after months from my last appointment, I am still sad, I still feel like I was disrespected and mistreated and I still believe the business aspect of Dr Chang's dentistry office took advantage of me and - NO ONE took the time to listen.
This is my experience: I first agreed to an extensive process and signed a contract in 2019, I had begun the visits to have two teeth implants started. The process was to be completed by early 2020. Due to COVID-19 the dentist office was directed to shut down, so my remaining two final appointment were cancelled and put off until early 2021.
At the time I agreed to this process, I signed a contract, agreed on the price first for one implant than it was changed to two implants. This is an expensive process, so I choose to pay on a monthly basis for seven months the total amount that was stated on the signed contract. Due to COVID-19 cancelling my appointments, my bill was paid before I was able to schedule to complete the process.
As I approached the last appointment to have the implant process completed, I was told I owed an additional $3,600.00. Around this same time the original business manager I had signed the agreement with had retired and a new business manger was directing the staff to "get payment from me". She wrote me an email just stating I owed this money but never took the time to explain anything to me. I was also told by some of the original staff that the rate had gone up since I signed the contract but I had a signed contract so it should not affect me - But it did. Dr Chang's office refused to do the last bit of work until I paid in full on the additional $3,600.00.
The day I went in for the last appointment I had also scheduled an appointment to have my teeth cleaned before the last implant appointment. I got there a few minutes early and they immediately asked how I wanted to pay my bill. I decided I had no choice but to pay it in full, I used a credit card because I did not budget this expense and they were not going to complete the work until they received full payment. They told me I could take a seat after I paid and to wait for the hygienist. I waited for an additional 20 minutes before the hygienist came to get me - she did a very limited cleaning, no polishing, no flossing and no discussion of the health of my teeth which has been the tradition for the past several years whenever I have had my teeth cleaned there. She did however spend the limited time I was with her on what a great dentist Dr. Chang was. It was an awkward cleaning for sure. The hygienist then brought me back out to the waiting room where I waited for another 45 minutes. Dr. Chang actually took another patient that came in well after me before she called for me. I was beginning to feel uncomfortable and mistreated, which I have never felt before. I had so much respect and honor for Dr Chang and how she worked, but once I finally did get into the chair and have the work done, I was actually scolded by Dr Chang herself for this additional payment situation. She made her reprimanding comment and walked out of the room. No direction on what I should do further with the new implants, no discussion of how I may feel after this appointment - nothing. The assistant walked me out and simply said goodbye. I am still so very hurt by this treatment.
I have had Dr Chang for my complete dentistry since she had a little office near Natick Commons. For me, she was always kind and informative - just a great dentist, until this last experience. Her and her staff really did not treat me with the respect or consideration of a long-time client or even that of a regular adult.
For me this situation was life- changing, it was not the way I had hoped this problem would have ended; without discussion or an opportunity to understand why I suddenly owed so much more on work that we both had signed a contract on - no one took the time to help me understand or wanted to hear me, no one considered my view, no one took the time to review the billing process with me. No one explained why I even had to sign a contract if they weren't going to honor it. Great dentist - lousy, unfair and shameful business practices. read more
